Clean pool and all the staff are very friendly. The cost to lap swim is very reasonable.

I am giving the review of 4 stars since I have seen improvement in the overall operation of the facility. The pool seems to be pretty well maintained, the locker rooms, sauna, hot tub are kept up. There is a current issue with the hot water and the ADA construction, but thisis expected to be finished soon. The weight room has an interesting assortment of hydraulic air powered machines for a good workout for the average person. I acknowledge that it is a city facility and should not be judged like a private health club. It s a reasonably good facility and the staff, management, and especially Mary at the front desk of the pool are friendly and helpful. read more

I didn't bring a camera to the pool. But the on line photos match. Clean facility with recent updates. They also have a work out room if you also use the pool. Sauna and hot tub too. Most importantly it is warm. I took my Granddaughter to the local Y and it was so cold her lips turned blue so we kept gettinin and out of pool and warm showers. read more

My kids have been swimming in parks and rec classes for over a year. It is very inconsistent. The teachers are ever changing, and from week to week, class to class, period to period, my kids are shuffled into different groups within the classes. So much so that they build no rapport with their teachers. The supervisors are ever changing as well. The YMCA in west seattle is a better choice. Aaron remembers every kid and their abilities, and the teachers take the time to learn the kids. They don't have to continuously try out to be placed in sub groups within classrooms. read more

they are not open!!!! rainer pool is open, why not southwest, what a bunch of wimps, when one has to travel 5 miles to workout [when it was formerly 1.4 miles-ie within walking distance] property values tank. people in west seattle mise well live on a desert island or be doomed to weigh 300 pounds with the poor selection of places to work out. and, i will put my money where my mouth is....i will donate fifty dollars once this pool and workout area opens and has wider hours where people don't have to kill eachother in order to find a time to workout. also, swims need to be at least one hour, these 45 minute swims do not cut it!!!! read more

Its only $4.75 to take water aerobics every Tuesday and Thursday. Not too shabby! Good sized pool with a not so friendly yet focused on the task at hand staff. To my dismay there are a ton of rowdy kids getting their swim on before water aerobics begins. Sigh. One got their comeuppance when I accidentally backed my bare ass into her. That's what she gets for trying to weave and bop around the ladies room. read more

If you enjoy playing the lotto you will enjoy watching your kid take lessons here! If your child is scared and truly a beginner this is a good place to get started, but once your child is actually able to swim it is completely undependable. My daughter has taken lessons here at this pool since she was three years old, she is five now. Three times that she has taken lessons she has had good teachers. Once when she was at three with a wonderful older woman who took pride in her work and no longer works there. The rest of the time she has been horribly unchallenged and thus entertaining herself rather than 'learning' which is pulling me away from the pool. Last month for example, she had a teacher that saw that my daughter could swim and she would make a point to challenge her, it made my daughters skill measurable, in a class of three, my daughter was instructed to swim for example 10 yards, the second kid in the class swam 5 and the third swam 2.5. Watching from the bleachers it was like this each week for the month long session. I had conversations with the teacher about her skill level and was told that while she would be fine in a higher level, staying in this class made sense because it was smaller and the teacher could give her the appropriate challenges, teacher came through and we were all happy. In this class she was being instructed to jump from the diving board and swim to the side of the pool...which she had no trouble doing. Now though, once again my daughter has been placed in a class where she is noticeably more capable than the other children in the class but the teacher seems unaware. On auto-pilot she is being led about 4 yards into the pool and then led back (last week I watched closely and she did not actually swim on her own until 20 minutes into the 30 minute class). Which was the same as the kids who were in a lower class who are scared of water. This led to my daughter being BORED to put it nicely and thus entertaining herself swimming out and back on her own solo under water trailing the teacher or just playing around. She is not being challenged in the least. We have brought this up three times to the person who 'appears' to be in charge but seems to take no pride in his leadership if he actually has any management role over the teachers. We have provided case by case examples of how she was once and is no longer challenged and at first we were told that the teacher was aware she was at a higher level and would be adjusting to keep her challenged (not happening) then that the teacher would be coached about.how to do so (clearly not happening). Now, we are being told to remind them before class next week and to maybe have another teacher in the next higher class to accommodate and bring her in OR for us to talk to the teacher about what it means to keep her challenged. My instructions will be to talk to his co-workers, or get out of the pool at WATCH them to learn how to teach a class and measure ability. So all in all, yes, there are some AWESOME teachers, but there is poor leadership, poor accountability (the awesome teachers care about what they do, I am guessing they are not fairly compensated or else there would be higher standards), and it really is the luck of the draw if your child gets a good teacher. I am selecting "No" for the "Good for Kids" option because it isn't if you want your child challenged consistently. If you are dabbling and just trying to increase your child's comfort in the water then "Yes" it is a great pool to pay money to watch your child play with some young adults who occasionally care and occasionally even get a lesson if they win the lotto and get a good teacher. No coming often doesn't help, as I mentioned we have been coming for years, each month the anticipation of what could be is like a bad addiction just hoping my child will get the challenge she needs to move forward. We have even had her enrolled in 2 classes before, one once a week one twice a week and then at least had her challenged once a week. If you know how to swim and have experience I recommend the pool for you teaching them to swim, which is what I am probably going to start doing to supplement what she is doing already. I can at least let her swim across the pool without assistance to get her some exercise. read more

This swimming pool is very good for young swimmers! The kid I nanny for has been transformed into a total fish. His swim instructor is patient and enthusiastic, but still very informative with swim tips and tricks. The locker rooms are decent and lockers are readily available for rent. Definitely a place to check out for lap swimming or for the young ones that want to learn to place their heads under water. read more

This is a good community pool open to the public. I've taken the adult swim classes and found the instructors to be friendly and clear in their instruction. The facilities are dated but clean and in general good repair. They have a lot of good aquatic programs - senior swim, masters swim, kid's swimming lessons, water aerobics, etc. I am happy that this is in the community and will continue to patronize it. read more

I like this place a lot. The staff is friendly, and the lifeguards are kind and vigilant. The pool temperature is perfect (how can I quantify that without knowing the actual stats? warmish but still refreshing?). The pool has a 3' shallow end, which we need to accommodate our son, who is just learning about swimming and for whom pools are a new experience. The family changing area is a big plus. We go early so our son can play at the playground (part of the community center) before we go in. Just a simply pleasant way to spend Friday evenings. read more

This pool is so nice and clean! Lots of kids during free swim- but it's great for going to water aerobics and they also have a good hot tub. The staff there are friendly and we really look forward to our weekly classes! read more

AVOID THIS POOL! I have been swimming at this pool for a little over 3 months, twice a week. The first week their I encountered the deep water fitness trainer/ lifegaurd MIKAYLA. She is short with short brown hair and a usually carries an unfriendly demeanor. Hosting a 8 pm fitness class and it struck me as odd that she was wear only 3 inch long shorts....I could see her underwear and pubic hair line as she hosted the group from out of the water doing leg raises and while on the lifeguard stands. Fast forward a month later... she decides that a full piece with shirt cover bathing suit that my wife has been wearing EVERYTIME SHE GOES for months is something she can use to demean someone for emotion power. Mikayla is thin and my wife is a plus sized lady. She was so inappropriate. Not only does she come over to my wife to embarrass her in front of everyone but Mikayla was the only person in over 3 months of my wife attending Southwest Pool IN THAT SUIT to mention a thing. Worst part was that she didn't pull her aside and handle it like a paid employee of the pool i fund, she made it a public humiliation and then stood behind her while she sat on the ledge to talk about my wife's body to 2 other men in the office. Hand gestures and all. My wife is a free diver who was raised in Hawaii and wears low buoyancy swim gear along with 6 lbs of weights, she spends most of her time under the water anyway as she is training her breath holds for our trip to Aruba this winter. Mikayla's obvious self image issues and FAT SHAMING is yet another reason why I won't be funding Southwest Pool this year with my Tax deduction charity donations..... (beyond the dead flys, bandaids, and over abundance of hair floating in the pool) And just a reminder Southwest Pool Discrimination due to age ,race, gender, or weight is illegal. Their were other women wearing much smaller suits than a one piece. And everyone is naked in the changing rooms anyway due to the location being Roxhill and many ethnic people attending that do not worry about nudity for showers and normal situations (as it should be). read more

The Tues/Thurs water aerobics classes used to be very good. I've been going since last July 2015 and loved it. The instructor known as BC was great. In the last month, he stopped teaching and the two women (Mikayala and Mattie?) taught. One took the shallow end and one took the deep end. Now all of a sudden, they've decided to combine the classes :-( and only have one instructor for the whole pool. Not a good idea. I went last night and got no workout whatsoever. Please switch back to shallow end and deep end classes. Was this because of budget cuts? read more

I have been swimming at this pool for 4 years now, and have no intention of stopping. It is a large and comfortable 6 lane, 25 yard swimming pool. The facility is always clean and the staff are always friendly! For kids in grade school, middle school, and high school I highly recommend the competitive stroke and summer swim team courses. Competitive stroke is for more advanced swimmers, and is a 45 minute class taking place twice a week during the school year. Summer swim team is a more advanced and intense version of comp. stroke which takes place during the summer vacation. Both classes are led in part by Coach Mark, who is not only an amazing swimmer but a great teacher as well. The pool, staff, facility and courses are all outstanding in quality, and as someone who has consistently gone to swim here I found it to be a great area to work out and to learn. read more
