The pool is clean and the lap hours are the most accommodating in the area. That's the only reason I come here. The life guards are rude and terrible at communicating if lanes are going to be in use. If you are coming for lap swim, be prepared to have to move lanes often because of the staffs lack of communication on what lanes are available when. There is no regard to folk who have regular memberships who come here to swim. The directors and lifeguards prioritize folks who pay for lessons and classes. If you're a regular ymca member just know that lessons and group classes in the lap pool are not communicated through the app or through thorough signage Been coming here for 8month and only continue to do so because I have a back injury and I have to swim daily for mobility. read more

This YMCA really is substandard. They are very inconsistent with their pool being opened late (most of the time) and often closed with no notice. Many of us have complained but it appears management writes is off as they are "understaffed." What they fail to address is they have an obligation to notify the members as opposed to knowing their pool won't open and not telling anyone. Save your money!! Was in Seattle for work and needed a place to workout. Fortunately this was .5 miles away from my hotel. The equipment to workout was ok. Staff could have been friendlier and more accommodating. I only wanted to workout for a couple weeks and was forced to pay the I ti sign up fee for a normal membership and the month fee, not ideal. Over $100 for a couple weeks of working out. Also they don't have their hours posted anyway and they are randomly closed or have limited hrs. Wouldn't come back. read more

My fiancé and I have been coming here for weeks now and I have to say, it's slowly winning me over. I got to watch middle school and high school basketball games in the main gym and it was nice to see that this Y really helped build a community for these kids. Though having so many kids at the Y can get a little frustrating when you're trying to work out, you can often times avoid the chaos when the basketball courts are open to their disposal. While some of the machines like I previously mentioned are lacking (arm and leg machines) there are always open treadmills and olypticals for you to get your cardio on. read more

I've been going here for a few months now to use their gym for cardio and working out and also the pool for water walking while I recover from double knee surgeries. Honestly , everything has been awesome so far! The front desk people, lifeguards and staff have been so friendly and helpful. The facility also is always clean and organized. Coming in the morning around 6:45am- 7:30am during the week I almost have the entire area to myself! Love going here so far! read more

This YMCA has some plusses: close to I-5 and Pacific highway, so easy access. The kid's zone has lots of fun stuff, and there's lots of classes to participate in. The pool is big and there's a shallow one for little kids. Problems: cleanliness. I've been asking staff for months to please clean the shower areas better. Lots of mold/mildew (see pics). Estrada assured me that it was not them that did the cleaning, but a night crew; however, she said she would be sure they began cleaning better. Went in twice this week and still lots of mold in the showers - this time in family changing room and I saw it in two different rooms. The last couple times we went my son got sick after; a friend had the same experience on days we didn't go (I've since ended our membership). In a place like this, thorough, frequent cleaning is a must. Mold in a shower gets into the mist and then into the lungs; that just doesn't work for me and I can't understand why saying something for months didn't remedy the issue. Others issues: weight area needs more stuff, machines need cleaned better. read more

After i got the receipt for the pass, i was told i couldn't swim because life guard is not on duty and have to wait 4hrs for the next one. So i Told the clerk that i might not be able to make it later because i have an appointment but ill try my best to make it. I moved to Burien a year ago from North Seattle/ Shoreline and have been coming to this Y as my new regular gym. Matt Griffin YMCA is everything a YMCA should be - there is a mix of ages and generations, and a variety of activities available for personal fitness, classes, sports, kids, teens, and families. It is a "community place", and that is why I love the Y (vs a gym/ health club) and I appreciate the work and the care of the staff towards making everyone feel welcome. I hit up this Y at 6 am, which is a VERY different feel from the craziness of the evening when kids seem to be crawling under your feet like (cute) cockroaches. At 6, I find a relaxing way to start my day, to get oxygen flowing into my brain for the work day without battling for machines, to take a shower and speak a bit with the ladies in the locker room, and then to be on my way. When I've gone in the evening, I have found myself bumping into folks getting to my locker, stepping over towels strewn on the floor in the locker room nearby puddles that folks seem to have forgotten how to wipe up (and toss the towel into the bin for washing), and so forth. I didn't really mind -- let's keep our kids and adults active, but it's different and more chaotic and unruly. Bottom line: Jekyll and Hyde. This night owl has seen the joys of being a morning person at times. read more

Recently joined here, very attentive and super friendly staff, it's my first time with the Y ever so I had a lot of questions and they answered them all. They could use more workout equipments, like laying leg press, leg extensions and leg curlers instead of treadmills but it's still decent. Most of the times I can't complete my full workout because they don't have those machines but it's fine. read more

Had my son here for parents day out and I was very excited to do it. However, when we got back to pick our son up he had a poopy diaper and the gal that was taking care of him didn't change him because she was holding another baby so she wont cry. And my son had a terrible diaper rash because of it. I wish they had more people working and taking care of kiddos. She was sweet but definitely needed more help. As a member of the Y in Spokane was great to hear they participated in the Y away program. From the outside was great. Went inside, front desk was great. Got the kids club it was great. Got the work out floor and well...not great. Very limited equipment and a small work out area. Only one flat and one incline bench press. Only went to 75lbs on the dumb bells. Very limited machines and cardio. Was still able to get a good work out in but disappointed. But it does not stop there. Maybe I am used to the Spokane Valley Y. Huge pool and slide. Plenty of area for all the members and kids. This was not the case at the Y in SeaTac. The pool for the kids was maybe two lanes wide and the length of a junior Olympic pool. The slide was closed. And even it was open the area you slide into was tiny. I was surprised it was closed on a Friday night. At one point a life guard said you were not allowed to dive. He was referring to my daughter who is 5 and is learning to swim ... and no she has no clue how to dive. She was jumping in. They were also constantly counting how many where in the pool and rotating kids out, etc. If you are visiting the Seattle area I would look at other locations. read more

Used to go here a lot. It's a pretty good gym as far as getting a workout in. The bad is that you get ripped off here. Do not keep anything valuable in the locker rooms. Stealing is not supposed to be one of the Y's core values. Gym I go to now the ladies leave their purses unlocked. I guess stealing is not a custom at the new gym. Have not been here in a while because of virus, but they fired some really good yoga instructors. That's one of the main reasons I quit. read more

Pros: Super great Zumba class with Cecelia! Clean! Towels available all the time! Cons: Packed! Super busy all the time! The children's areas are cram packed so I don't bring my kids when I come here. There's a TON of people lined up ALL the time at check in. The Matt Griffin YMCA is one of the better YMCAs in the area. The lobby is clean and has several areas to sit. There is a rock climbing wall which is awesome. I have a 3 year old so we use the childcare facilities while I work out. The employees there are awesome and my daughter is always excited to go there. The Zumba classes are fun and the gym equipment, if broken, is typically fixed right away. They are always having programs such as Parent's Night Out, Dances, Family Dinners, etc. My ONLY issue with this particular Y is that the family dressing areas/showers for after the pool. They are often not very clean. Other than that, I think this Y offers a great service to the community. read more

Horrible security at the place. My car was stolen and they broke into other people's lockers (which were locked), stole keys and wallets.

I use this gym a lot, and take advantage of their child care regularly. It's not perfect but staff are friendly and despite high traffic the gym facilities are passable. read more

The most unorganized YMCA. The website is never accurate. The staff told me not to even bother looking on the website because it's never correct. Nobody ever knows about swim lessons sign up, kid club policies, etc and seem to pass the buck to someone else leaving me with unanswered questions and confusion. From the moment I walked in, terrible customer service, 3 people at the front, stood in front of the "sign up for new members side" no one greeted me someone who was right at the entrance in slacks & button up walked away as I walked up than turned around and said oh hey ! Told me it was sad that I was under the income bracket & it wasn't "easy" to afford $40/month when last year I paid no more than $25 he continuously lost track & yapped at girls coming in and out, just plain rude, wasn't organized at all, than when I got to speak to his manager, all he could say is that prices had just gone up & although I thought ymca was helping out ... it was all just a joke, me speaking to a manager about my private situation consisted of me standing next to him while he sat at his desk with 2 other people just giving me a complete blank stare ... Today my locker was broken into in the women's locker room. It had a TSA approved lock on it and I'm guessing someone had the pass-key for that. All my cash was taken. The purse was found in the bathroom stall by another woman. If you go to this Y and use the locker room, do NOT leave any valuables in a locked or unlocked locker. I thought with a lock my belongings would be safe. So disappointed and hope the thief gets a load of bad karma for stealing. read more

This is the WORST YMCA I've EVER been to. I was visiting family in Seattle from Hawaii and wanted to get quick workout in. I've been to this YMCA within the last 9 months and was treated a LITTLE better than today. The customer service was very unwelcoming. No one smiled and no one returned my good morning greeting. It seems like no one likes to be treated nice. The people at the front desk were all uptight. They had zero follow up questions to my needs and intentions. I observed how they were totally hands off with elder members. It seems they have no rapport with anyone. It's just a paycheck. No passion. This is NOT acceptable to me. And maybe this is the reason I don't like the mainland. Too many SNOWFLAKES!!! The YMCA is a place of reciprocated OLD SCHOOL RESPECT. NONE found here. The facility is clearly undersized for the community, and the service is middling at best. The thing is, this YMCA wasn't built to serve the larger SeaTac community. It was built to serve the Cedarbrook conference center located within walking distance to that YMCA, when Washington Mutual had that facility built a decade ago. Cedarbrook was a high-end conference and training center, providing Washington Mutual employees conveniences unavailable to locals. The locals were discouraged from going to the YMCA, because it wasn't built for them - even with subsidies and scholarships, the YMCA managed to become a WaMu-only fitness center. Then, Washington Mutual went under and was bought out by JPMorgan Chase. They, in turn, sold the conference center, and Cedarbrook became a hotel with a rather large fitness center and restaurant. The YMCA became pointless - the locals aren't fond of the place, because of what it stands for, and most can't afford it. So, the SeaTac community is stuck with a YMCA that doesn't like the locals and can't serve a large community. read more

First experience with having a gym membership, I've used fitness centers at various apartments that I've lived in for years but wanted to upgrade. Loving this place so far- the staff have all been excellent and the place is very clean and well kept. For the most part the clientele is an older age range but thats fine with me, I go there to workout now scope out beefcakes. It also makes me feel good knowing that I am helping contribute to a good organization rather than lining someones pockets. read more

Has the potential to be a great club. The Management staff is never there. They are completely unorganized as a business. We paid $130 a month for a family membership. When Summer came, they overbooked the pool with Swimming camps and classes. Which left open swim with very limited hours. They are completely understaffed and the Management hides from people who want to address issues. The Board really needs to look at the Management at this location. We like the line level employees, they try and manage the best they can, but they seem overworked. If they had proper Management, they could really improve the facility and manage their PL properly. read more

It was packed all the time, which i didn't mind too much, i don't mind sharing a lane, but they closed the kids pool down so many time and moved em all into the lap pool and just crowded even more, and when your trying to get a workout in and kids keep swimming across your lanes, just a tad bit annoying. read more

This was my first gym membership ever. I thought a YMCA membership would be a good alternative to a commercial gym (their billing practices are enough to scare anyone away). I signed up at the beginning of the month, only to find that they were completely closed the first seven days of the month for renovations. Because all other YMCAs are a long drive away, I didn't have time to wake up even earlier in the morning to get to the gym before work. That was a week wasted. After the renovations were supposedly complete, I went in a handful of times. Each time the person at the front desk paid no regard to the fact that I was a new member. No one ever bothered to give me a tour or offer me any basic information. They just asked for my drivers license to check me in. Despite the fact that the month is almost over, renovations are still taking place. The workout room seems to have a permanent crowding of inactive machines in the middle of the room. It seems like they are out of service. Today I went in at 10am and every piece of equipment was in use. Many of the machines were still broken. It is annoying to think that the only way I can use the equipment is if I go early in the morning. To date, I still feel lost and out of place at this gym. It would be nice if they gave some kind of orientation or tour for new members. It was only today that the front desk lady asked me if I had a "card". Apparently I was supposed to get one on my first day ... :/ I think I will stick to running at the park. Oh well. That was $98 wasted. To put the cherry on the cake, my online account isn't working, so hopefully I can cancel my membership before I get billed again. read more
