He even called us a week later to make sure we were still happy and that the piano had held its pitch.

We have learned a lot about the repair, cleaning and refurbishing that pianos need at various stages in their lives, and we decided we were more comfortable purchasing a used piano that had been thoroughly vetted and updated as needed. We were amazed at the work area and the meticulous restoration that is undertaken there. The sound of the piano that we purchased is incredible.

Instead, he sent the same tech that missed the QC in the first place -Tech left the piano dirtier than he found it and left several repair items unfixed -I requested to return piano and get refunded -The team picked up the piano but couldn't provide any information about the refund process saying only, "Brigham will take care of you." -Asking Brigham for a refund devolved into a multi-day, unprofessional nightmare that included Brigham asking me to text him my Credit Card info in order for him to process the refund (who does that?) -The crown jewel of the whole experience was a phone call on which Brigham told me I'm not "thinking rationally" and that I "escalated this in ridiculous ways." -At the time of this writing I have still not been issued a refund. It has been 3 business day since they picked up my piano. I'm going to the store tomorrow morning to hopefully pick up a check. Fingers crossed.

I called several moving companies to ask for bids, and got very high quotes without feeling that they knew what the task required. Eventually, a light went on in my head telling me to deal with a piano company, or at least ask its recommendation. I called Barrus to discuss the project. They asked the manufacturer and model of the piano, and whether any steps were involved. (Yes, two.) It was clear that they knew the exact weight of the piano without looking it up. I told them when the carpet was scheduled to be installed and we scheduled the piano move the day before. They arrived exactly on time and took about 15 minutes to put the piano on a piano board, remove the legs and pedals, wrap the piano in a padded quilt that was purpose-made for this size of grand piano, and move it into the adjoining room. The carpet installer came as scheduled. (I mention this because this doesn't always happen.) And the Barrus crew returned the next day (a SATURDAY, for crying out loud) to replace the piano. Did an excellent job. If you need to move a heavy piano, don't call your strongest friends to come help you. Call Barrus.

I have seen my fair share of instrument repair shops and NEVER have I come across a repair business with more skill and integrity. Windy fixed issues with my instrument that multiple other repair shops have said were unfixable. My flute has literally never sounded this good. When the flute was returned to me, it had even been polished- so I'm pretty sure it has never looked this good either! Additionally, the value of the services cannot be overstated. The cost of the repairs was very reasonable. In case you couldn't tell, I was incredibly impressed with my experience with Windy. If your instrument needs repaired I feel comfortable and confident saying that Windy is the right person for the job.

The shop is owned and operated by Windy Shaffer. Windy has been repairing wind instruments since 1992. She received her degree in band instrument repair from Red Wing Technical College, Red Wing Minnesota (1996). Specializing in woodwinds and brass repairs, Windy especially enjoys working on double reed instruments and tubas. The shop repairs instruments to top playable condition. Repairs include the following: * Free Estimates * Removing a stuck cleaning cloth or swab (free) * Replacing tenon corks * Replacing key corks * Complete re-padding or single pad replacement * Removing a stuck mouthpiece (free) * Removing stuck tuning slides * Soldering broken joints * Repairing valve problems on brass instruments * Adjustments to make most band instruments play more accurately In shop services also involve chemically cleaning brass instruments using a three-step process. This chemical cleaning process can completely remove all lime and scale deposits that can cause "red-rot" (internal deterioration and permanent damage) on a brass instrument. The focus is primarily on the play-ability of the instrument rather than cosmetic improvements. The shop does not do cosmetic work or re-lacquering...
