Jim is your guy, Euro-car owners. The car I bring in (every-so-often) is a 1990 Volkswagen GTI -- an MKII. 5-speed, red with big bumpers & one of the few Wolfsburg Editions sporting four round headlights. Sounds cool, huh? It's not. It will be. In case I see this post one future day: IT IS! Yes, the car was put through madness, but it's the car I rode out to California in. I used to run motors into the ground. A few accidents, 2 blown engines, many cheap parts from discount auto stores and a little bit of East Coast rust throughout. I've been driving the same car since 1998 & Jim understands. It's more than something I'm using to get from Point A to Point B. Everything we do is stock and done right, piece by piece. Jimmy ain't judgin' you or your car, neitha. Jim has a great attitude, he's a perfectionist under the hood & honest. Today a blown heater core cost fifty bucks to bypass, along with a few quick safety checks. He could have ordered a part that I won't need until Winter2016 -- right on. It's California, though. A heater core is as useful as a spleen. We were done (this one Wednesday morning) in a half hour, an unscheduled pop-in. It is always best to call ahead @ 310.782.2222 before showing up. I gotta warn you, it's lonely out there. The train tracks of Torrance are cool with me. Some other hot-shot VW mechanics are out & about, around the same space, twisting wrenches on Bugs & Baja Bugs, VW Things & Busses. I love it. You will most likely be the only person in the waiting room. Being alone, sometimes I'll show up with my own coffee and computer & go to town. I'm guessing they save on overhead, being so far away from all the coffee shops. Hey. That savings is passed on to you. The bathroom is super private... clean. There is also an expert in Volvo's sharing the garage. Both guys work on any type of vehicle -- Japanese, Italian, American. Whatever you've got, Euromotors has a good answer with accurate estimates. read more

I drove from the Bay Area to LA to purchase an older 3 series BMW. Starting for home next morning the car overheated on the freeway, having broken a block to heater core fitting, which ruined the water pump. I was extremely unhappy. Jim Yinger had the car repaired and back on the road by noon, at a very reasonable price. I had to be at work the next day, so I drove straight through to Marin, with no problems. After 40 years as a mechanic and fleet manager, I can tell a good, honest mechanic from a faker. Jim Yinger is as good as it gets. My only disappointment is that his shop is too far away. I own an Audi Q7, it began to overheat and leak coolant. After opening the hood, it seemed to be leaking from the back of the engine, near the firewall. I thought, "oh crap, this is going to cost me". Where do I go to fix it? I looked in the Internet and found Jim. I read the great things about him so I went to him. Folks, he is great. I took my car in Tuesday, I had it back Weds evening. The cost was very reasonable considering it was a Q7. I know the dealer would have been far more costly. I give Jim 5 stars and recommend him. I am a 30 year police vet and my word is good, this is no fake post. He is now my mechanic for my Audi Q7. I seen Mercedes and Porsches in there too. Take care. :). read more
