We were looking for a fish fry (during Lent) so we stopped in at ET's Downtown since a "Friday Fish Fry" was advertised on their published menu. As it turns out, it is simply a fish sandwich. So went early on Saturday...4:30 or so and place was somewhat busy. Still plenty of open tables. What is lacking here is the service. Our appetizer came out before our drinks. When waitress came to table to get drink orders we were ready to order food too. She initially told us no to taking our food order because another table was there before us. You're here why not take our order??? She was pleasant but not attentive due to what I believe to be her being overwhelmed. Seemed like she had quite a bit to handle by herself. Food was ok. Burgers are typical and nachos had large portions of fat on them. Assuming they use fat from the pulled pork on nachos. Place wasn't bad by any stretch but could be so much better with more support for bar and wait staff. Everyone was friendly and place is nice just need to support staff better I believe. I don't think that my meal could've been better. After looking at all of the options we decided to get the pulled pork nachos, the "crack" fries and the wedge salad with brisket. This was for two adults and one small child. It was a ridiculous amount of food. Usually when the food is super good like that I can manage to cram a pretty decent amount into my big face hole. But it was just so much. But it was so good. I battled with myself for much of the time I was at ETs. I finally had to give in and take a to go container. Sub-par burger patty used at this place. The burger patty reminds me pattys that are sold at big warehouse clubs like Sam's/CostCo that has been grilled to the point where the outside is charred, inside is tough AND it seems like it wasn't freshly cooked. Tasted like a burger patty that's been cooked an hour ago and has just been sitting under a heat lamp. Wasn't juicy or flavorful. Meat was tough. Very sub-par, will not have any burgers from this restaurant ever again. Fries that came with my burger were good. Bun was soft and good and so were the toppings in the burger. That burger patty was just tough and not enjoyable to eat. Nice place, friendly people, don't get me wrong. But a burger this badly prepared shouldn't even be used. My wife got the chicken sandwich, looked a whole lot better. Get the chicken instead. Avoid the burgers until they change the burger patty used or till they learn how to cook a burger properly. I mean just look at the picture of the burger. I'm picking it up at one end of the burger and it can't even sag down a bit cuz it's so damn hard to chew. A great addition to the downtown district in Rantoul! This restaurant is handicap accessible, family friendly, and a great spot to gather! There is something on the menu for everyone! I highly recommend the mozzarella chips with the ranch- their house ranch is next level! I had a Caesar salad with chicken- I should say here that I order Caesar salads everywhere I see them in a menu. ET's has taken the top spot on my list of favorite Caesars.... First off-This would be a five star review except for the Noise of the place. I was there recently for the first time, for a going away/birthday party. The interior is really nice. We were seated at a huge table in the new bar addition. I realize it was a Friday night and lots of people were talking and eating, but with 3+ TV's going, I think music playing and high open ceilings the noise was ear shattering. I could not hear the person speaking next to me. So, acoustics are not good-at least for me. NOW-The food was EXCELLENT. Everyone raved about their own choice and I ordered pulled pork sandwich with fries. The sandwich was served with a brioche bun and piled high with juicy, smoky pulled pork. The Sweet-Spicy sauce on the side was very good (I am a Sweet Baby Ray's fan)And the fries were super good, thin cut and crispy on the outside while not greasy. Crack sweet potato fries were passed around and made me wish I had ordered them. So good. SERVICE--I tip my hat to the server! She did an amazing job taking all of our orders and serving our party. Per a friends suggestion, we stopped for a late lunch and a couple of beers. We each had a burger. Skinny for me and fat for my husband. I got blue cheese, bacon and bbq with a side of onion rings. I over to add onion rings to this style of burger. He got bacon, pulled pork, queso and he added jalapeños with a side of crack fries. These are shoestring fries that have a cream cheese sauce with bourbon candied bacon-so good! If we weren't so full we would have gotten dessert. They had Illini bars among other yummy things. They also carry Blanton's bourbon. That's a plus! The bar is upstairs with a restroom and many TVs. Many levels of stairs to get up there, so if you have a hard time with stairs, stay on the main level, but you won't get to enjoy the beautiful bar. We will definitely return! read more
