The menu here is pretty cool. Set up by the type of liquor, there is one drink for each. I've been here a couple of times. My first visit was during a weekday night and it was pretty chill. My recent visit was on a Saturday night and it was pretty packed. We had to wait a bit to get our drink order in. It was a very warm night so I went with their frozen drink option and my tongue froze with each sip. I managed to get through it and as the drink melted it got easier to finish. The music volume is extremely loud if you sit/stand near one of the many speakers. The bartenders are not very friendly but they make great drinks and it is a cute bar so I'll probably go back. read more

I had been wanting to check Estereo out for a while now since I've seen it on a bunch of lists of bars to try in Chicago. My experience here was a bit underwhelming. My friend and I came to grab drinks before dinner and we managed to grab some seats at the bar since it wasn't too busy yet. The vibes in Estereo were kinda weird and I'm not sure how to describe it. We ordered 2 drinks, Stirred and Cachaca, both of which were pretty good. The Stirred cocktail was very strong and the Cachaca was nice and light. Our bartender seemed very reluctant to be there and maybe she was having an off day but I noticed she was friendlier to another guy than she was to us. Overall it wasn't a bad experience but it wasn't a great one that would make me want to come back. read more

We tried to go to Estereo for my friends 25th birthday in a group of 12; upon showing security her (VALID) out of state ID, he glanced at it for 0.5 seconds and declined her immediately. They had no box scanner or any other means to confirm that they thought it was fake; again, it was my friends 25th birthday with her completely valid ID. *Instance of Discrimination, read below* I came to this establishment 7/25/2020 with two of my buddies we varied in race (black, Mexican, Indian). We got our reserved space in the section under the garage doors. That day was in the 90's with the sun beating down us in where our stools were placed. My buddies and I moved our stools a foot inside avoiding the sun and finding shade. We had been in that spot for about an hour and a half with the hostess walking back and forth passing right in front of us 4-5 different times. On the 6th time we were told we cannot have our stools there, we moved our stools back to the original spot in the sun. To our right, within a space similar to ours under one of the garage doors there was a small group of Caucasian folks doing the same thing we were before we had moved the stools. I approached the hostess who had asked us to move our stools back, asking her if I could "speak to her for a second." She obliged and I explained to her how she asked my group too move our stools back when I pointed to the group next to us engaging in the same position we had been in yet, that group was still freely there. I asked her why they were able to remain on the patio in shade as we were before being asked to move? She said that she told them but they didn't listen which was untrue because she had not approached the table at all. I told her with everything that's going on pertaining to race and discrimination this was a very bad look. The hostess offered I speak with the manager which I eagerly accepted. The manager approached me, I explained the situation providing evidence of the situation by showing him the group and he dismissed me (which set me off), saying that I was the only in the establishment without a mask on where I proceed to point out everybody else in the bar not wearing a mask and stating that the only people wearing masks were staff unless patrons were at the bar which was 100% true. I managed to revert back to the subject matter, where he then deflected my comments again by saying they my buddies and I were out of our stools jumping around, again untrue. In reality as I explained to the manager that the only time we got up was to purchase drinks. Instead of acknowledging my complaint reasonably and respectively he tried to flip the situation making my group of racially diverse individuals the problem. Noticing the reality of the situation and exactly how it looked, we were being racially discriminated against. My group was asked to leave respectively other than continuing our conversation as we exited. I really hope that none of my peers have to experience this type of issue because this was a huge wake up call to the type of way this type of discrimination is very real and still exists within in society and that's not to be specific in on place or another but acknowledging that it happens anywhere and everywhere. The best way you can avoid this discrimination is staying aware from this establishment. All Patrons should be allowed to have their voices heard and acknowledged regardless of race, gender, religion. etc especially if they are approaching the employees respectfully. I will never give business to this poorly managed establishment again and I hope you all read this and think about if you were put into a situation like this and how you would feel because nobody deserves to be treated such as so. read more

My group and I popped in to Estereo on a beautiful Sunday afternoon stroll. The vibe is super cool inside and makes you feel like you're on vacation on a tropical island. There isn't outdoor seating, but the big open garage doors make you feel like you aren't wasting a nice day outside by sitting inside a bar. A couple people got different versions of the Breezy cocktails (mezcal and rum) and both were delicious. Being pregnant, the bartender was able to make me an awesome mocktail with muddled mango-very much appreciated. No food here, so definitely a cocktail joint, but a great place to start or end your day drinking. read more

I come to this bar quite frequently. My last visit will be my last. It's usually very busy on the weekends, so service is slow understandably so. I was there this past Tuesday 7/19/22 and it was not as busy. The bartender would not come up and grab my order initially, and I had to wave him down to get a drink. He wouldn't come check on me as I had an empty drink and wanted another one. When my friend and I asked him if he had a mezcal, he replied "we have over a houndred" and rolled his eyes. I asked for a similar version to the one we asked for. Today, I noticed on my bank statements that I was not only charged my total amount with tip, but he also charged me $19 a day later! The drink options here are perfect. Literally will cater to any taste, especially with the Breezy option that allows for you to choose your liquor. This is exactly what I got, with tequila, because I was fascinated with the Yerba Mate in the drink. I was here with a group of friends this past Saturday night. The drinks and environment were great, however, they had an extremely unpleasant bouncer threatening me and my friends at the end of the night. The hours clearly say they are open until 2, but this guy was yelling at us at 1:40. He kept telling us to get the hell out, and when we told him we would just be a second since our friend was using the bathroom, he told me he would physically throw me out. I am 5'1, and this man was well over 6'0. We did not argue with him at all, but he kept going on about physically tossing us out. It was the worst experience I've ever had at a bar. read more

I asked him to leave my card "open" and he said he was "running my card" but would leave behind the counter. Not what I expected but fine. At the end of the night, I asked to close out. A different bartender rudely asked if I had closed out before, and I said the person before had run my card already. The rude bartender then told me to leave. 30 seconds later he ran up and said I needed to sign and leave tip. I tried to explain this was what I had tried to ask for just a moment before, and he did not apologize for dismissing me a moment before. I did want to leave a good tip for the wonderful bartender at the beginning of my night there, but instead was left with the very bad taste in my mouth of the person refusing to close me out, then demanding my signature. I love this little joint! It's so cute inside and gives off a very low-key (but fun) vibe. The inside color of the walls is yellow, and they have fun string lights on the walls. They usually play either eclectic music or dancey/fun Spanish music here. I love both! The bar is right in the center of the room. They keep it pretty well staffed most times, which is important. Not often you witness blatant racism first hand, but the treatment to my friends at this bar was shocking. A group of 2 black men, a white man, and a white woman tried to order drinks at the bar. One of our African American friends was telling the bartender our drink order. Without letting him finish, the bartender looks at the two white people and asks us what we wanted. We said that our friend was giving the order, but he refused to listen to what our friend had to say. Great drinks, good furnishings, but a solid B- on atmosphere. Let's start with the good things: the watermelon mescal drink was fantastic. Refreshing and spicy, it was exactly what I wanted on a hot August day. The place itself is actually quite cute, with buttery leather seats and a good breeze from the open windows. Unfortunately, you can't hear yourself think when the blue line passes by (which was about every 10 minutes when we were there). It's also order at the bar only, which I don't prefer. Especially when they seemed to have so many staff just standing around, would it be so hard to welcome someone, take their order (or at least provide a menu and direct them to the bar)? If there are snacks or a coffee menu, we never found them because the staff was so uninterested in taking our money. The simple booze based daily cocktail setup is genius, the bar is beautiful, and in the summer it's amazing when they open up the windows. The bar has huge garage doors that open up so you feel like you are outdoors soaking in the sun. The music they pump through the place is normally chill latin music, with delicious cocktails to pair with. The bar is an odd shape, but does the trick to keep the bartender close to the clientele. It was light but still tasted like a well spiced meal and I thought it was an incredible deal price-wise.
