Dealt with them only twice in my lifetime- both times they saved our hide. The first was back in 2015 when another "company" had convinced my elderly parents they needed to replace the entire pipeline from the house to the sewer in the street. Essig ran cameras thru the pipes revealing no compromise in the lines thus, saving my parents thousands & performing a simple de-clog. The second time was a few weeks ago when a very old, unmaintained, oil furnace quit in the middle of a deep freeze leaving my elderly mother with Dementia without heat. They "repaired" the furnace enough to buy us some time to make a decision regarding replacement & even made a house call off the clock when my mother accidentally thru the kill switch on the heater. They were efficient in the install of the new heater & helped me orchestrate the service without being present (I live out of town) in a trustworthy manner. read more

Do not use this place they don't help with any warranty work even though they said they would they made us do it all they gave us old kohler smart toilets and then when they replaced it with another model they walked us out of features and offed another old toilet on us they also blame the customer for problems if your products cannot handle normal use then don't sell them. I paid Essig for a routine HVAC check-up a few weeks after moving into my new house. The tech did point out some disrepair in my system that should be addressed, but also gave me the, "I can't say you've got mold, but..." In a panic, we had a salesman come out the next day to quote a cleaning and a new system. The quote BLEW. US. AWAY. It was nearly $17k for a no-name brand and another $2-4k for a cleaning. Salesman ensured I'd see a nice discount via the Energy Efficient Home Improvement tax credit while not understanding the tax laws and that this credit is NON-REFUNDABLE. I wouldn't see a penny, but they sure made me thought I was. Lies, lies, lies; money, money, money. We immediately got second, third, fourth, and fifth opinions from both bigger and smaller companies. It wasn't until we got those smaller companies in that we got assurance that the "mold" was dirt and dog hair. We also got quotes for less than $9k for more well known brands, brand I've heard of before climbing down the HVAC rabbit hole. A HVAC unit costs $5k where was the other $12k coming from, Essig? I paid Essig for service, have not worked for them or a competitor, and do not currently work for a competitor. I am a customer that got bad service. TL;DR - avoid Essig and any larger HVAC company. My furnace died and I engaged with Essig on a Friday night via a request form on their website. They called me first thing Saturday morning and were out later that day. They send texts with photos of their technicians and salespeople prior to their arrival. They also notify you when you they are on the way. These guys really excel at communication, and it was so easy to get service and I didn't even have to make a phone call! I ended up replacing my furnace with a different vendor, but Essig was very completive, professional, and more than fair during the whole process. They also loaned me heaters, it was 20 degrees out when the heater died, of course! I called Essig to come out and take a look at my heating system for me that was not running. They determined that my system needed to be replaced. I immediately put a hold on this until I had a few other companies give their assessment and price quote. Of the five companies that provided I spoke with, Essig provided the best price, and they sounded most like they knew what they were doing. Essig was the only company that provided a lifetime warrantee on the heat exchange so look out for that. Some of the companies even tried to take short cuts with what they would install or try to install unit that was a lower BTU than the one I had in my home. I spoke with MAG Pluming, HL Bowman, Service 360, Comfort Pro, and Roher's One Hour Heating. Essig is flexible, very professional, easy to work with and they genuinely try to work within your budget. More of a sales company than plumbing and heating. They installed a mini-split system but didn't put any sealant to fill the holes they put in the house to run lines. We had to call them back out to complete this. After over a year and several calls, we still do not have matching covers outside (they ran out of tan and did one portion in white). In addition, they didn't put any stone under the outdoor portion of the unit so it is resting on mulch. They don't foresee an issue but we do as the mulch breaks down. They automatically sign you up for a service plan, paid monthly and if you don't pay for it they completely void the service warranty. We tried utilizing their service plan for our unit not working and they were not able to come out until the next week. Meanwhile, they haven't completed the yearly service/check-up. We have spoken with them many times without remedy. Highly advise looking elsewhere for your HVAC needs. read more

I am very unhappy right now. We have been customers of Essig for many years and have a "Diamond" contract with them. After yesterday, I think they have lost their customer. I had a small leak in a pipe in my basement and of course was getting water in my basement. This has been an ongoing problem in this particular pipe and would have been the 3rd or 4th time I had Essig out to fix it. The last time happened to be on New Year's Day a few years ago. However, when we made the call for emergency service yesterday and explained what we needed to have done, we were told they don't offer emergency service on a Sunday but would get us on the list for Monday morning. What?! So you mean to tell me I have to either let my basement flood until you get out on Monday morning or turn my water off to the WHOLE house until you can get someone out to my house. All the guy kept saying was I can give you the phone number to Berks Fire and Water to clean up the water. I had to hand the phone over and walk away from the phone. My only other option was go get another plumber out that does offer 24/7 service. Lucky for me I was able to get help from a neighbor and was able to get my problem fixed by early afternoon. On a Friday morning my main shut off to the house was leaking a good amount. Because my township told me that if it wasn't turned back on before 2pm I would be without water till Monday morning, I called Essig. They said it was a $59 fee to have someone come out and look at it and a flat rate for whatever job they had to do. When the plumbers got there they said they would take $200 off since I already had the water turned off... $200 to turn off the water?!? Yo replace the valve it took them less than 45 minutes and let than $100 in parts. My final bill was almost $500. I will not be using then again because that is outrageous pricing. I had no choice. Either let it leak all over my garage and pay an obnoxious water bill all weekend, go without water for almost three days, or pay this ridiculous amount. Employee, Ryan, came out to clean out basement drain. He had to remove an open pvc w/ trap setup we had for the washer to drain into. Upon putting it back together; broke the trap. He panicked called his boss, Tom, to come out to the house. We were not told he was coming out. Tom tells him to recap the drain opening, and tell us they couldn't get trap back on because the threads were stripped. (lied) Visited by Brian later to quote us a $4,000 fix. We refused. That was the end of Sept. Still not fixed. They refuse to come out and replace the trap. Gave us a full refund for pipe cleaning, which to me is a sign of guilt. I have been a long term customer, one of Essig's " Diamond" customers. However, this company has changed. They come out twice a year for our "check ups" for plumbing and heating. They were always good techs and took care of things at a reasonable cost. NOT this time! $283 to open a sink drain! $302 to replace my two easily replaceable water filters. Replaced the flappers in my 2 toilets $428! They also told me that I would not pay anymore for the salt for my softener; charged $20.57/bag that I could get for $8/bag. Finally, UV bulb bacteria replacement for $263. Needless, I am extremely disappointed in Essig and I have CANCELLED my "Diamond" service membership and will never do business with them again! I did call Essig to express my concerns to their Service Manager Dave...no explanation, no satisfaction except, 'Did they do the work? And, was it done to your satisfaction?' If you do decide to use Essig PLEASE ask for an itemized quote for ALL their work...parts cost and labor cost. The service manager gave me some scam explanation that they(Essig) do not do it that way so the customer doesn't have to pay taxes on Essig services!? read more

Was charged 350 dollars to get a new thermostat. They charged 250.00 for the thermostat which I just looked up at Home Depot and it is a 25.00 thermostat. Also, I contacted them yesterday they said they would be there that day, they canceled. I was told they would wave the service fee- they didn't. I have two small children, under he age of 4 and waited over 24 hours with no heat just to be charged the service fee anyway. If I had known all I needed was a new thermostat I would have just bought one and installed it myself. That way I wouldn't have had to bundle my children, but space haters and be charged an arm an a leg for a service technician to spend less then a half hour in the house installing a cheap thermostat that isn't even programable. I have a severe plumbing problem. I was charged $122 for someone to come out who was completely clueless to spend the entire time of the visit speaking to a "supervisor" on the phone. I had to suffer through another week with the problem for an appointment with a "supervisor." My appointment window was between 11 A.M. and 1P.M. I called in three times awaiting my visit. On my final call was I was informed in an extremely rude fashion that no one would be coming because they could not get hold of me on the phone. Great inner office communication folks. Think of Essig Plumbing, think of the old Steve Miller song, "Take the money and run". So I lost a day off without pay, still have my problem, and am out $122 for absolutely no professional services rendered, not to mention being insulted by the rude woman on the phone. We required emergency call on a Friday afternoon and was given appointment between 2-4, then got call couldn't come until Saturday. Worker came to repair well pump assessed the situation and called for another worker to bring equipment that was needed. Workers were very professional and did a great job. Done in4 hrs. The negative is the company's one flat fee instead of basing it on labor and parts needed. Did contact company and made management aware of my disappointment in price. Sad to say this because it's literally a stone throw away from where I live. I've had essig come out twice to do their special summer AC unite tune up. First time it was a pleasant experience. Took care of what they needed to do and where on their way. Second time around now...not so much. Technicians came in and went right to work. Came back up with in twenty minutes and informs me that I have a leak somewhere and that I would need to replace coils in my unit, but if I wanted to make sure the problem was fixed a hundred percent that I should replace the inside and out outside unit completely. He gives me estimates for both jobs and they are both well over three thousand dollars. I told him I would have to discuss with my wife, he didn't seem to eager to hear that and just like that he was on his way. Never showing me where the leak was exactly at or even charging me for him coming or leaving any paperwork stating the work that he did. Just up and left. I called UGI to have a second opinion on it and UGI could not find any form of leak in the unit after spending and hour plus inspecting the whole system. It wasn't till he went outside and found the caps where they fill the coolant didn't have any gaskets. Potential reason by the coolant was low... small consistent leak through the caps...essig was the last company to touch those caps... in all Essig it's a shame to be writing. We contacted them for emergency water heater replacement at 9:00am. I was quoted around $1200 on the high end for replacement and $189 for SATURDAY service call. We were OK with that. Repair person was running behind and asked about doing repairs on Monday...OK no big deal. He asked which water heater we wanted and told him nothing special but something with decent warranty.....his response $2500 and best price was $2000 without warranty. So since this is robbery they pretty much blew our chance of having the work done by another company that day because it was now 5:00. I believe this is a common scam tactic and I feel very bad for the elderly people who are abused by companies like this. The rest was labor, profit and misc. told them it was way higher than others and they took off 500$ with no hesitation. Still too high. Feel for those who don't know any better and pay these prices. Look around there are equally as reputable companies who are more fair in prices. I've waited years to give this review to show just how unethical this outfit is. In either 2013 or early 2014, after a routine heat pump regular cleaning and maintenance call, the technician informed me due to a faulty heat exchanger, we would need a new heater. He then called several "sales" people from their office to come out and give us an estimate. By the time these so called sales reps (3 of them) were finished, they determined we also needed a new water heater and a new AC unit as well as the heat pump. Their estimate exceeded $14,000 dollars. Knowing full well a scam when I see one, we paid the outrageous $500 fee for services for that day and immediately cancelled some "diamond plan" we were in with them and HAVE NEVER used them since. The kicker is our original heater and AC unit are still functioning fine 7 to 8 years later. We have replaced the water heater. Whenever I see their trucks, I fear someone might be being told they need something they don't. People need to get several estimates. They are exactly the opposite. They came out quickly (for $175). The tech wasn't there to diagnose. He didnt even take the cover off. He quickly told my husband we needed a new air conditioner and a new heater. My smart, mechanically inclined non HVAC husband could actually hear things that the young salesman blew off. He was clearly there to sell. We moved on to another local business. An honest one. While we may need to replace our air conditioner the other company actually diagnosed the issue and agreed with my husband where the issue is and said "no way do you need a new furnace". I called for service of a clogged sewer line at 7:15 pm on a weekday evening. I spoke to an answering service, and I received a return call at 7:42 pm. The person who called me said there was a large additional fee for after-hours service, but suggested if I could wait until early morning that there was a special promotion with great pricing. She said she could get me an appointment for the first or second call slot of the day, which would have someone to my house no later than 10 am. She would call to confirm my appointment by 8 am. 8 am comes and goes. At 8:30 am, I call the office number and speak to Steve Essig, who has no record of my call, and tells me they are booked solid for most of the day. He would do his best to get me an earlier appointment and would call me back. I call the person directly that I had spoken to the night before, and she tells me she's just arrived at the office and will go inside and get more information and call me back. Nobody calls me back. I call a competitor at 9 am and they say they'll have someone out by 10 am. The technician arrives at 9:35 am, does an excellent job with no extra charges, and I'm back to work at 11 am. This is my second bad experience with Essig. I thought I would give them another try. Calling them was a mistake. read more

Woke up week before Christmas last year to no water. Turns out our well pump had gone (was over 10 years old so it had a good run). Called Essig as the name was known to us. Charged $5,000 for them to install a new pump and a couple pipes and valves inside house. No digging was necessary, there was easy access to pump right outside house. Now hearing what others have paid for new pumps which include a lot more work realize we have paid at least twice as much as we should have. Will definitely not use Essig again. read more

First off we had them come to our house to fix a leaky faucet it turned into wanting to replace the entire thing with a 700.00 faucet. All in all we paid roughly 250.00 for the guy to replace a washer that took him about three minutes to complete. They also wanted to install an entirely new softener system, When all we wanted was a dripping faucet fixed. We weren't sure how we got from replacing a washer to replacing our entire water system and a 700.00 faucet. Needless to say we over paid on fixing a washer...by about 200.00 and we won't ever call them again. We went with local thinking we would be taken across. Next time our faucet leaks we will replace the entire mechanism for less than what the essig contractor was trying to take us across for. I am interested in a straight up honest contractor that isn't going to try to sell me thousands of dollars of things that I didn't even call them for. A couple of years ago I had an issue with my air conditioner in a recently purchased house. Essig HVAC did a fantastic job setting me up with a new system for what I feel was a reasonable price. So I decided to purchase membership and became a Diamond Member for $27/mo. This past January, the plumber came for my routine inspection of my system. He told me my water softener and conditioner were getting old and needed to be replaced. He quoted me a new system for a few thousand dollars. A couple months later I went on a little vacation and the water system sat dormant for about a week. When I came back I noticed them at the water pressure on my house wasn't right. If I ran the washer machine and flushed a toilet or turned on another faucet, there was zero water pressure in my shower. Today I realized that the reason my system wasn't running correctly was because somebody switched the water conditioner off so that it would regenerate automatically. The last time anybody touched the control panel is when Essig's plumber came to my house to try and sell me a new system. Maybe an accident. It feels more malicious. I have cancelled my membership with Essig since I can no longer trust them. read more

Unfortunately, I seem to have to call Essig at least once a year to come and take care of some malfunctioning or broken essential item in my house - water heater, toilet, AC unit etc. Joe Wolf has been out a couple times and has been very professional and helpful. He seems to know our house at this point and makes a thorough diagnosis. The cost may be a little more than if you shop around but I like knowing they come out quickly, do a good job and warranty their work. read more

I recently purchased a new house. Two months after being in the house my water pressure dropped drastically. It is on a mountain and I have a well so I was a little concerned that maybe it was the pump. Please keep in mind I have no idea what I am doing. My wife called the plumber to come look at the set up and figure it out. The plumber that came out from Essig said that since everything was 15 years old it should probably all be replaced. The total was a little over $12,000. Instead of going for the $12,000 option since we need a quick fix and family was coming in from out of town we went with a $541 quick fix. After contacting the previous owners of the home they said that the water filter gets very dirty very fast and needs to be replaced every single month. I replaced a $17 fucking water filter and everything works fine. I am really glad that I did not give you motherfuckers $12,000 to replace everything like you suggested to my wife.
