FYI: Shorty's marks up the prices by 20% to the trade and consumers. https://shortyshvac.com Bruce quoted a price of $2001- the highest estimate we had gotten from 5 companies. What part was being used, an EOM, or an aftermarket? We have no idea what that $ 2001 entailed- a massive markup on the part is what we presume, or an incredible hourly rate. We told him the price from Shorty's and he responded that his supplier was double in price. (WUT??) We bought the part from Shorty's. Had to ask twice via text to learn that Bruce was not interested in installing it for us. " We can only install parts we source and purchase. The installation of customer supplied parts presents issues with insurance coverage and warranty policy." What issues are they Bruce? is it that this job means you are making less money since your supplied parts markup is gone? Am sure that is it. Lack of transparency is not a winner for us. We have a 1 year warranty for this part from Shorty's. This quote and final response was unfortunate, especially knowing that we had opted to move to New Holland HVAC after our contract was over. 1. Put a water softener in for me which is still under warranty, I kept having trouble with it. He…read morecame more than once and did not fix it. Said he'd have someone else call me. No one called me. I had to, at my own expense, have someone come in and fix it. Rick had no clue what he was doing. Did not have softener set up correctly. The softener has it's own controller which he did not have turned on. There was also a white piece of plastic behind the controller unit inside a black circular piece which was taken out, looked like piece of the white plastic pipe used near the softener. 2. I then had Rick look at a shower that was not working. He took it apart, it was a water line, said he wasn't working on it, left the shower apart. That is not the way you do business. Extremely disappointed. But I now found a great plumber.

Purple Plumber is a one man operation and when he was away in the past, another service covered for him. That is where the good review came from in the past. I've now dealt with John, the Purple Plumber himself. What an angry, unhappy man. I work in customer service and this man hit every button of what not to do. He is a great plumber, I believe he is, but he needs to hire someone to deal with people for him. Grumpy, angry, impatient. He got so angry at me for paying within 10 days of a service call, he wanted payment the day of but he doesn't take credit cards. Hard to do if you aren't at home at the time of the service call. He wouldn't work on my type of hot water heater and instead of telling me so, he went off on me about how he hates the type I own. Wow, how is the guy still in business? Neffsville Plumbing and Heating charge $58 for a call out, use them instead. No plumber is perfect but at least if you avoid Purple Plumber, you won't be lectured and grumbled at by some old man that must hate his life and his job.

I do not recommend at all. I was not going to leave a review because I was refunded part of what I…read morepaid. However, I would not go with Berks Plumbing. It was overall terrible experience and as time goes on I realize it could have been catastrophic if I moved forward with them. I had a clogged drain and got an invoice from Essig on what it would cost to move forward with what was needed. Essig was at my home for several hours trying to clear my drain line. Did not try to upsell me on anything I needed. Jim was absolutely fantastic and straight forward and has proven to be a man of his word with Essig plumbing. I called berks plumbing for a second opinion and hydro blasting because it was recommended from a friend who is a plumber on the west coast after the traditional snake from Essig was unsuccessful before going into the foundation. Mike from berks plumbing quoted me at $2000 for hydro blasting and to clear the drain. However said if I bought a $4200 he would only charge me $1,100 for the hydro blasting. Beware single ladies, he is going to say run it by your significant other. I thought it was considerate at first, however, after sharing my experience with other members of the community, this is how he works even when he worked at other companies. Mike is a sales man, he cares about taking your money for the lowest quality work. He sold me on the water softener system, that I did not need and was not in my budget if I needed my pipes replaced at $8,000. He told me it would be beneficial to reduce further erosion on my old cast iron pipes. He assured me the hydro blasting and water softener would solve my issues. And I did not need my pipes dug up in the basement and replaced. I DO AND WHEN I SAW WHAT I SAW WHEN THEY RAN THAT CAMERA I KNOW BERKS PLUMBING SCAMMED ME!! They came out the first time, "ran a camera" (it never happened) and somehow what Essig couldn't get through, they chain snaked and claimed it was hair and lint and "successfully removed the blockage". When I asked Ardie, the plumber Mike sent for the job, to see what was removed from the pipe that was causing the drain issues he said he got rid of it already. Then I asked him what he saw on the camera and if there was a lot of erosion and he said "it was just dark". Ardie said he ran a small load of laundry and there was no issues and I was good to go. I ran a normal load of laundry in my washer and it backed up into the utility sink. Mike sent Ardie back out to correct the job. They came back out and I demanded to see what was going on inside the pipe. They used the same camera and as soon as they got in the pipe there were several holes in my drain line. Water was going under the foundation of my home and the pipes absolutely needed to be replaced. They didn't do their job properly the first time, I did not need it snaked or a water softener. I needed them replaced as Essig told me. Then when I informed Mike I was going with Essig he completely bad mouthed them. Said they do shotty work and will try to upsell me on everything. Coming from the guy who did just that. He lowered the price of the job and wanted to do it when I wasn't home. Red flags all around with him. Then he called me several times reducing the price of the job. I told him it wasn't about the money anymore that I was not confident in their ability to do the job. Mike was going to do it the next day. I live in west reading where you need a permit to do this type of work. He wasn't going to get the permit. He also told me the floor drain doesn't get replaced because they're obsolete which is also not true. I have text messages and I have a recording of the conversation between us. That's how unsure I was about this company. I would steer clear. The employees are unprofessional and their work is not of quality. They want your money. That's all, in my experience.

We were caught in the middle of a renovation project and the electrician our Contractor utilizes…read morewas unable to free himself up. My brother-in-law recommended Steve Lenko and his business. Our Contractor agreed to use them because of the delay. Steve came out on a Saturday afternoon only 6 hours after we contacted him in order to review the job. He spent 3 hours at our home going over every aspect of the job, looking at the existing wiring and the proposed options we wanted. Steve not only made some excellent recommendations but also had the foresight to allow for a junction for a first floor connection on the same circuit that may be eliminated in the near future, saving us a lot of work and most likely a bit of money also. I don't know of another Electrician that I've ever used in the past that would think ahead like that for the customer. He said his helper Jim would be out early Monday after a lengthy consultation with him to review all aspects of the job. We were admittedly a bit concerned as we've had owners of businesses come out and sound top notch before and then send their workers out and be totally disappointed. This was truly not the case this time. Outside of the necessary noise required to complete the project we would almost not have known he was there. He arrived right on time every day. Worked the entire day. Never had to do one of those 2-3 hour mystery trips in the middle of the workday when you wonder if you're actually being charged for the offsite time needed for poor planning. Our entire experience was excellent. There is nothing they could have done better or done differently. After I made the mistake of calling Horizon to look at my oil burner with is hot water on demand I…read morelearned a good lesson I will never forget. I got up for work at 03:00 am on Tuesday July 14 only to find out I had know hot water to shower. The oil pump was tripped out. I pushed the reset and it tripped again. So i turn the power off to the oil burner and left a not for my wife that we had no hot water when she would get up two hours later for work. I left work early to meet the technician around 17:39. He was in the basement for 5 -10 minutes. He came up and said we need to replace the heater for around $10,000. He stated it is twenty years old and would probably spend around $4000 - $6000 to rebuild the pump and other miscellaneous work. He said they could have some here Wednesday July 15 @ 09:00 to give me a estimate for a replacement and work out financing. After he left I decide to get a second opinion and call Aram Ecker who had replaced my water supply line to the house over a year ago. Aram showed up around 08:55 to take a look at the oil burner. He disassembled the pump and other stuff and cleaned it all. He got it fired back up and running. He was here only 1 hour and 30 minutes. This cost me $225.00. I learned a good lesson today.

We needed to replace a cast iron baseboard along an outside wall in our bathroom. The base board…read moreunit developed a leak and needed to be replaced, so we called Santos Mechanical. Immediately they told us they could replace the baseboard. They provided us with several options. After choosing a baseboard, Santos Mechanical quickly ascertained the parts, removed the old unit, and replaced the new unit and parts. They worked efficiently, maintained a neat working environment, and completed the job with functionality and an excellent appearance. In addition to the replacement of the unit, our entire system had to be drained. After completing the replacement Santos Mechanical had to refill our entire system which has two different phases. They had to be in our entire house where they carefully moved furniture when necessary. They were very careful to cleanup as they went from room to room. They are very trustworthy and considerate of our home. The price was very reasonable and the estimate reflected the final costs of the entire repair.
