I loved the vibe in this place. The decor is beautiful and it's a quiet clean place to study. I got a to go order, the coffee was excellent - the cookie butter latte was the perfect amount of sweet and the chai latte was heavily spiced and flavorful. Service was maybe not the friendliest, but I liked the coffee and the shop itself enough that it wasn't too big of a deal. I look forward to coming here again and staying for a while. read more

My experience at this cafe was very strange - when friends and I walked in on a Saturday afternoon, there were many students around but it was dead silent inside. No music or chatter at all. Upon ordering, about half of the items on the menu were not available. My friend ordered a chai, which came as purely as a steeped tea and without milk, which was fair but also somewhat unexpected. I'm sorry to say I had probably the worst coffee of my life here. Maybe not the worst, but really bitter. Tasted like the beans were burnt to all hell. Just seemed like to endure any drink it had to have a ton of sugar and milk, which to me defeats the purpose of a coffee shop. I don't like having to add sugar and milk, I'm not a coffee connoisseur per se but I grind my own beans and try to get it done semi right. I've had excellent espresso in Italy and France and even in the U.S. but I find the coffee in the U.S. often ends up being really burned or something for some reason. This was the worst case of that. I really enjoy a well brewed coffee and usually take my coffee black and if it's a good spot will have an espresso or a cortado, just to say that I can absolutely handle richness and some bitterness, this was way too burnt, though. Went in the afternoon on a weekday and were able to find seating at a large table near the front window. Interior is spacious and ambience is relaxing. Ordered a large Black Iced Tea and Iced Matcha Latte. Both were fine. However, I noticed they have a check-in special on their Yelp: 1 free coffee when you bring a friend... Check in here to unlock this offer. Well, I tried to check in to get this offer, and the guy at the counter said that this offer is only good on Saturdays! Also, they did have pastries, but none of them were visible at the counter area where you order. I'd only order one if they were visible and you can check them out first. There is no parking lot, but street parking seemed plentiful. Was able to find an open metered parking spot right around the corner, so that was great. I am so happy to have stumbled upon this hidden gem! I was looking for a coffee shop open early in the morning to grab a quick hot Americano & head to my appointment and I saw Espressoteric on yelp, and thought I'd stop by. Upon walking in, I was blown away by the unique ambiance and vibe of this place. It's the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee, work on your laptop, meet with a friend, or just chill. The owner is super nice and has put so much of his talent into the decor and functionality of this place. From his handcrafted tables (yes he built them himself), to the elaborate bar and design (which he also built!), it's honestly very impressive. I LOVEEEE the way this place flows & it has such a calming yet eclectic vibe. I can't wait to come back and just get some work done while enjoying great coffee & bites! This is an ambient cafe to study at, tucked on busy Westwood Blvd. There is plenty of seating and at the bar (my favorite) there's counter space for people who take up extra room with their "study spread" like I do. Baristas are at the bar and their drinks are good, I had a latte with lavender syrup. Service is very nice, keep in mind they can get busy and there were only two people in when I was there. Their drinks are okay, the latte was nice and balanced between creamy and strong. Strength was there without being too milky. However, I couldn't justify the almost $7 price when there's other places around the corner with the same for a larger size. They also have no straws! But most of the flavor I was looking for was at the bottom. Would definitely come here to study, but if you're looking for good coffee for value I'd seek elsewhere. read more

I've visited this coffee shop a couple of times now and this is the first time I've yelped about it. The cafe is ideal for the work from home employee that wants to get out. It is very quiet and seats about 30 people comfortably. Literally I've walked in when it was 20 or more people and I kid you not, if I had a blind fold on I would think it's empty because of the quietness. The coffee is made fresh by one person so you know it's good. They have many different flavors and style of coffee to choose from. Also the pastries are served fresh and get delivered on a daily from local bakeries. Finding this little gem made my day. I was getting my passport renewed at the Los Angeles Passport Agency. I had to wait a few hours before coming back to pick up my passport. Scoped out the area for a coffee shop to get some work done. Espressoteric Coffee just happened to be 2 minutes down the street. It was perfect. I got there when they opened at 8am. Parked on the street for free. They also had metered parking but I found parking with no meter located around the corner on the side of the building. This coffee shop is just the freaking cutest!!! I love how clean, modern and spacious the set up was. So many seating options from comfy couches, chairs, barstool countertop seating to nice big table seating. Very cool decor and a total urban feel here. They have coffee and pastries ya'll. I got the lavender latte and it was made to perfection. I came in the afternoon on a Sunday so it was quite busy, but luckily I was able to find a seat near the window! I ordered a cafe latte w/ oatmilk & lavender syrup and it was pretty good:) the interior of the cafe was so nice, very spacious with lots of seating, however I reccomend coming early cus it does it get very crowded and seating may be hard to find especially for more than 2 ppl. if u come by urself tho u should be able to find seating. I'm usually very particular when it comes to sound so I was very glad to find that this cafe was very quite. the only downsides to this cafe was that the wifi was sometimes spotty, and cut out pretty frequently while I was working which was a bit annoying :( and that I wasn't able to find any outlets near the benches where I sat at so I couldn't charge my laptop:( overall tho, 4.5!! will be coming back here again as I was able to get lots of work done:) read more

I finally dropped by Espressoteric after my friends shared how much they loved studying here and only here. It was quite the walk here from UCLA, so I was hopeful my walk was worth it. We ordered at the counter before finding a seat by one of their large windows, just the kind of natural light I like to have. The staff had our drinks ready expeditiously. I ordered the matcha latte and was pretty disappointed by my order. The drink itself was so light in color that I suspected I'd just paid for a cup of milk and ice with a splash of matcha. There was a little bit more matcha flavor when I tried the drink itself, but it was still underwhelming for me. I should have ordered one of their snacks instead. Overall, despite being a cute study and hangout space, I wouldn't go back here for another drink. It's not unlikely that a friend will suggest this place again though, so I am open to coming back to try something baked instead. read more

I came here at 10am on a Saturday morning and there were only about 4 other customers here. By around 10:45, there were much more people (around 12?) but there were still seats available. In the beginning it was quiet and perfect for work but as more people trickled in, it was only natural for more conversations to take place. Chai Latte: There was only one worker here so service took a little longer than expected since there were other customers that she had to serve. I bought a 16 oz. for $6.30 and it was just mediocre. It was hot and had nice foam and spices but it didn't deliver the creaminess or flavor that I wanted. At some point, I thought it was more tea water than latte milk. Would have been nice to have the drink in an actual mug but that might be too much to ask for since there is only one worker staffed. If I come back next time: vanilla latte Parking: There is metered parking right out front but we opted for free parking just around the corner, near the apartments. Spaces: The inside of the shop is spacious and has a lot of tables and counter spaces. It is definitely very aesthetic here and feels conducive to working. They have a wonderful wood look with warm lights along the bar. The large windows along for a great amount of natural light to brighten up the place. There are 7 small tables, a large table that fits about 8, a bar counter that fits 7, and a nice couch. There are powerstrips and outlets spaced out around the shop along the wall. Wifi: Free! The wifi name and password is taped on the counter where you order. Can be a bit slow though. Overall, nice space and ok latte but only one worker here for both drinks and food so you might be waiting for a while and also, slow wifi. read more

Stumbled across this great coffee joint on Westwood Boulevard and the name intrigued me. A parking spot right in front with money still on the parking meter meant this was serendipity. Opening the door I was immediately charmed by the open ceiling and brick walls, furnishings and couches and the quiet serenity of this place where people were appearing to actually read and work. It was comfortable and engaging. I should have had an espresso but I had already had a morning coffee so I opted for a latte and a gluten free banana bread. The interior was so welcoming that instead of take out I sat in the center of the long room facing an incredible big chair with lion carvings. Being a triple Leo, whatever that means, only enhanced the experience. I haven't left a review in a long time on yelp. Probably because I left 800 reviews for Costco instacart shoppers while I holed up in my house for three years. Anyway. This is the one to bring me out of yelp retirement. In spite of its questionable portmanteau of a shop name, this place is possibly my favorite coffee shop in LA (next to the Bourgeois Pig, which will forever be the best). Consider: amazing ambiance where you can work or daydream, excellent coffee, and the kindest baristas around. You should come here, just don't tell your friends because it will get too crowded.
