the past 2 times i've visited malou, i've had great experiences with the drinks and service. however, this time around, i'm not so sure i can say the same thing. i visited with 2 other friends and ordered first out of the three of us. the last friend who ordered was offered a free dessert for some reason, which seemed weird and almost selective?? they don't usually give out free pastries to anyone... service was quick though, and staff was kind. i ordered a strawberry matcha latte with oat milk, and while the drink was a good size (16 oz), paying $9.50 total for a drink that's the same quality as different cafes in the area with cheaper prices, seems unreasonable and unrealistic. obviously, i won't be having this drink everyday (it's definitely a splurge). the drink was good, but it wasn't anything spectacular (or worth paying $9.50 for). plus, charging an extra $1 for a substitute milk is also pretty steep. i'm happy they use fresh strawberry puree mixed in their milk, so it's not overly sweet. the matcha was also super quick to oxidize, so that vibrant green color you see in the picture quickly turns to a dusky green. :( i've ordered the strawberry matcha before, and i SWEAR it tasted better just a few months ago! it makes me so sad because it used to be my favorite at malou. i've attached a picture of what my drink looked like in november 2025. (the picture with 2 drinks in it is from november 2025). the cafe is pretty small and has limited seating, so you'd be lucky to find a seat. similarly, parking is absolutely terrible in that area - the residential area is always full, and the metered street parking is so chaotic. i'm really bummed about this visit to malou, especially because i've had pretty good experiences in the past. the location is so convenient for me, but i'm not sure i'll be visiting for a while.
Great place to sit on the patio, enjoy some Brentwood breeze, and settle in with a cute and just deep-enough menu to keep you excited. I found a table pretty easily, and ordered from there via QR code. Ngl, the tables can be a little uncomfortable because of the angular metal nature of them. You can nestle in there pretty easily, but one wrong move, and ouch! I really enjoyed the Breakfast Burrito. Definitely original and inspired: Scrambled Egg, Avocado, Pinto Beans, Sour Cream, Pico De Gallo, Cheddar Cheese, Tater Tots & Jalapeno Paste on a Flour Tortilla. A handful of Tater Tots arrive with as well as Cilantro sauce on the side. This burrito is pretty peppy -- and even intense in flavor. I liked it a lot, but actually had to take a break between halves as a result. My companion had the Golden Morning Brioche (Scrambled Egg, Avocado, Caramelized Onion, Arugula, Cheddar Cheese & Chipotle Sauce on a Brioche Bun) and enjoyed that. She also really enjoyed her drink, the Okinawa Cold Foam. I liked my coffee, and later, an espresso over ice. Fun vibe, and lots of other choices, including their bakery goods. Definitely recommend. Street parking, but be careful -- it's pretty tight on Barrington.
At first I was mad at myself for forking up $19 on a fried chicken sando . How did we get here, la? Surprisingly though, it was a very special sandwich. It had some really great well balanced sauces throughout, I actually wanted more of the sauce, but was afraid to ask. It came with a salad that had some pickled onions, and again, a really great refreshing well thought out dressing. I can't really complain. Actually yes I can, the flies!!! As soon as I took the sandwich out the huge flies would not leave it alone. Be aware. I found free street parking pretty easy on a side street. I thought I'd come here to read but they are kinda blasting the music so maybe it's not the best environment for that. Too much noise. I did not like the butterscotch latte. It was kind of weak, in my opinion. Thank goodness they let me exchange it for the Okinawa cold foam matcha drink, which was amazing. I think it's unique and cool to have a cold foam Okinawa flavor. They actually don't sweeten the matcha at all under the cold foam, so that was interesting. I might have to add sugar to it. Overall, everything was good, I just wouldn't order espresso lattes here.
Had this coffee shop on my list for a while, and I finally got a chance to check it out! The space is cute, with a small patio and a few sidewalk tables for enjoying your drinks outside. I ordered one of their signature drinks, the Okinawa Cold Foam, which is a matcha latte topped with an Okinawa brown sugar cream foam. I got mine with light foam to cut down on the sweetness a bit. The foam was delicious, super unique, and paired well with the matcha. However, the matcha itself was just okay and was a little too milky for my taste. Parking: street and neighborhood parking.
We got so lucky with parking!!! Someone left right when we came, and we could park right in front of the cafe on the street. Street parking is hard hard to find. :-( Came on a Saturday around 10:30 AM and it was PACKED, but the line moved surprisingly fast and we only waited around 10 minutes. We got the Matcha Maple Top and Okinawa Cold Foam Matcha. I was honestly really disappointed because I had heard great reviews!! The matcha was way too milky for my liking and lacked that strong matcha flavor I usually look for.... The Maple Top especially barely tasted like matcha at all. Matcha flavor got lost from the maple... The Okinawa Cold Foam was slightly better, but still not strong enough. If you like sweeter, milkier matchas this might be your thing, but I personally prefer a stronger matcha-forward drink. For around $8 a matcha, I expected a lot more. Unfortunately I don't think I'd come back.
I decided to try Malou because it was within walking distance of my friend's apartment and appeared to have enough seating for me to get some work done. Ordering was quick, and I didn't have to wait. I ordered a drip coffee and a pastry (I can't remember the name). Unfortunately, the coffee wasn't to my taste. It had a noticeably sour flavor, whereas I prefer coffee with a richer, roasted bean aroma and taste. The pastry, however, was excellent--fresh, flaky, and definitely the highlight of my visit. I initially found a table on the sidewalk, but the Wi-Fi signal was very weak there. I then moved inside and found a table with bench seating. While the space looked inviting, the seating wasn't very comfortable for working on a laptop for an extended period. Overall, the pastry was enjoyable, but the coffee and workspace setup didn't quite meet my expectations.
Busy little coffee shop, however, service is pretty quick and very friendly. The coffee was delicious! Parking is a little hectic.
I'm writing this review hoping you guys bring the matcha back to how it used to be! I've been going to Malou for about a year and a half, and I always used to order the Okinawa Cold Foam Matcha. Honestly, in my opinion, your matcha was #1 in LA! But for the past 2 months, the matcha and the foam have tasted much lighter. The flavor has definitely changed, and I also feel like the cup got a little bigger. Even though it's $8.50, I would honestly rather have a smaller cup with amazing flavor than a bigger cup that doesn't taste as good. I'm going to post an old photo and a recent photo so you can see the difference in both the color of the matcha and the size of the cup. Please bring the matcha back to how it used to be and don't change the quality of your ingredients! It used to be SO good. We miss the old Okinawa Cold Foam Matcha! Please bring it back!
Amazing, spectacular, and delicious are the three words that immediately come to mind. I had a meeting nearby, so my wife, my son, and I decided to stop in for breakfast. The drinks were very good and exactly what you'd expect from a quality café. But the food presentation--wow! It completely exceeded my expectations. We ordered the avocado toast, the breakfast burrito, and the egg on brioche. Every dish was beautifully plated, garnished with edible flowers, and served with a fresh, delicious salad. I honestly wasn't expecting this level of presentation from a café. The portions were generous as well, leaving us completely satisfied. I also tried one of their pastries that reminded me of a cinnamon roll. It was enjoyable, though as a professional baker and pastry chef, I felt the pastries were the one area with room for improvement. In my opinion, they seemed to prioritize elegance and originality over achieving the best texture and flavor. Even so, they were still good, and I appreciated the creativity. Overall, this was an outstanding breakfast experience. Beautiful presentation, delicious food, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere. I would gladly return.
average price in LA, carrot cake latte was good. a 15-20 min wait on a sunday morning. service wasn't particularly friendly but that's how it is with LA coffee shops! love that they have unique/seasonal flavors
Cool, fun spot! Two of us ordered: iced americano $4.85 iced matcha latte $7.95 ($1 upcharge for oatmilk) Parked in the back. Cool space with outdoor seating.
This was my first time trying their breakfast! I had tried their coffee before and really loved it, so I was excited to come back. This time, I ordered the egg sandwich, and honestly, it was the best egg sandwich I've ever had! The portion was huge compared to other places, and everything was absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed both the sandwich and the coffee.
I ordered the butterscotch latte and it was just ok. The person who was taking my order was very nice and helpful. It was my first time here and I was between two. Maybe, I didn't choose wisely. There were a bunch of people here on a Sunday afternoon. There was one party before me ordering and a few minutes later, a line formed very quickly behind me. I found parking on the street and walked, but I did have to circle once or twice.
On a weekend afternoon, I decided to try Malou Coffee, specifically their iced hojicha latte. It was smooth and refreshing with a nice roasted, nutty flavor that wasn't overly sweet. It was a great option for something that was not matcha or coffee. Service was good, as they were helpful in giving my friend and I recommendations based off our taste preferences. read more
The Butterscotch Latte is tooo bitter for my liking. It is not sweet at all to be honest. I asked for Japanese Brown Sugar Cold Foam after I tasted it to try & lighten up the flavor.. but it didn't work. I am willing to come back & taste their matcha next time. The photos online look promising. The workers were very genuine & sweet! The seating is very open & spacious. Everything appears to be super clean & aesthetic so that's a nice plus. read more

I wanted to try the viral Malou Coffee but unfortunately, I found it quite mid and underwhelming. I tried their famous Okinawa cold foam matcha. Matcha was unsweetened underneath the cold foam, which I do not like, and the Okinawa cold foam has too subtle flavor. Like others have said, the cold foam kind of tastes like nothing. There might be very subtle nutty chocolatey flavor but it's so subtle I can't really tell. I also tried a coffee to see if it would be better. The butterscotch latte was ok but also not sweet enough. I could taste the butterscotch flavor though. In terms of atmosphere, it was a small space with outdoor seating only. There was a line when I went but I waited about 20 minutes to order and receive my drinks. The staff were not overly friendly, just doing their jobs. It is very difficult to find parking and it's a very crowded area. Overall not worth $16.50 for two tiny drinks. read more

The coffee and Matcha here is phenomenal! I have been so obsessed with their Brazilian Matcha lemonade that I went there every day for the last week they were serving it! I would love for them to bring it back as a permanent menu addition and I would come here all the time! Service is wonderful, they are so friendly and hard-working here. They have a bit of outside seating and parking is either metered or residential. Prices are fair, considering the quality they serve, great option if you are looking for coffee or Matcha in the area, highly recommended! read more
Very modern and minimalist cafe! My friend recommended me to try this place if I was ever in the area and wow! There's very limited paid street parking in front of the cafe. There are a few tables outside where you can do your work and enjoy your drinks. I got the Okinawa matcha latte w/ whole milk! This drink wasn't very sweet which I appreciated and you can taste the earthiness of the matcha. I got to taste the strawberry matcha and it was good! The strawberry jam they have is presumably made with fresh strawberries since you can still feel seeds when it passes through the straw. I think the strawberry was a perfect addition and balance to the latte! read more
This spot is probably one of the better matcha's I've had in LA, and let me tell you, I've tried A LOT. The matcha is so earthy and smooth, it's not bitter at all. The Okinawa cream top adds a subtle sweetness and kind of caramelized flavor. The cafe is so thoughtfully and minimally designed, with a cute, but small outdoor seating area. Everyone that works there is so nice and attentive. And drinks come out really fast despite the long lines! read more

I've been going to Malou since this place first popped up in the area. My friend is a big matcha hound and had this place on her short list of matcha cafes to try. We have both collectively loved this place ever since. The quality was IMPECCABLE from day one and now that the place has a bit more renown (lines form as early as 7am sometimes now), the quality hasn't gone down since. I LOVE the decor as well. It's so relaxing and refreshing. Plenty of seating for such a small space as well. Great for catching up with over great drinks and pastries. 1000/10 always. read more

This place is overrated. I can taste that they use average matcha and it's not as creamy as I'd like. The Okinawa foam also didn't do much to the drink. Will not get it again. Service was slightly slow and it's a small coffee shop that has limited seatings for customers. Value: 6/10 Service: 7/10 Atmosphere: 7.5/10 Drinks: 6/10 read more
I came here wanting to try specifically 2 items... #1 - Date Cardamon Latte & #2 -mango croissant. I came here 1 hour before their closing time, so they were out of the mango croissant already, which is understandable. I'll have to come by again in the AM to try this. I did get the Date Cardamon latte, which was my 1st time trying the flavor combo. I believe they make their own date syrup in-house. You can certainly taste the date flavor upon the first sip, however, after the 1st sip, I couldn't specifically taste it anymore. The cardamon spice made up the bulk of the flavor. The espresso was not very strong; will try double shot next time. The drink was on the sweeter side from the data syrup. There were also a lot of chunks in my drink, which I am not sure if that's from the cardamon spice or if it's left over coffee grinds. The inside of the coffee shop has a minimalist design. They do have shelves on the sides of the shop where they sell coffee beans, matcha powder, matcha-flavored nuts, Hojicha flavored walnuts (never heard of this, so I picked me up a can of this), coffee grinders, tea cups and miscellaneous shop swags. The coffee beans were reasonably priced (less than $20/bag). They do have seating outside of the coffee shop for you to enjoy your drink, chill, work, hangout & socialize. read more
I stopped by Malou Coffee on a weekend afternoon, and it was such a peaceful surprise. The café wasn't crowded at all, making it the perfect spot for anyone looking for a quiet place to study or get some work done. Street parking can be a little tricky, so you might need to circle around a bit. But once you're there, the vibe is totally worth it. The outdoor seating feels open and airy, and the whole café is clean, minimal, and super aesthetic. I ordered two drinks: the Okinawa Cold Foam Matcha and the Matcha Maple Top; and both were so good. The cream tops on each drink were rich, unique, and beautifully balanced. They added just the right amount of sweetness without overpowering the matcha base, so neither drink felt overly sweet or heavy. read more
i had the yummiest jasmine matcha at malou!! the matcha quality is great, and drinks do not come too sweet :) the foam was creamy and light with some matcha powder sprinkled on top. i also enjoyed the brioche sandwich, i did not realize it came with a side salad so that was a nice surprise. the avocado, egg, and chipotle sauce were just perfect for me! wifi available and some spots to sit, but it didn't seem like staff cleaned the tables, so i ended up clearing one off. parking is available on some side streets, and the line moves pretty quick. i'll be back for the matcha! read more
Tried Malou Coffee for the first time and ordered the Okinawa Foam Matcha and their seasonal Maple Foam Matcha, both were good, though I wish the matcha flavor was a bit stronger. The foam was subtle and not overly sweet, which I actually really liked. The maple foam was especially delicious. I'd definitely order it again if it's still on the menu next time! I also appreciate that they offer different milk options (2%, almond, and oat), which makes it easy to customize your drink. The space inside is cute, with limited outdoor seating. Parking can be a bit tricky since it's mostly street and metered, and the area gets busy. The service was also good as all the workers were friendly and knowledgeable. Didn't get a chance to try their food, but it looked really good. I'll definitely be back to try more drinks (the coffee looked tempting too!). read more
Came around 4PM on a Monday and it was still pretty busy. The space is very small but aesthetically pleasing, with some outdoor seating available. Parking can be a bit tricky. There's a back lot or metered street parking nearby. I ordered the hot date cardamom latte and the iced carrot cake latte (about $17 total). The date cardamom latte was the standout. Very aromatic with warm spice flavors that came through nicely. The carrot cake latte was a bit disappointing since it didn't really taste like carrot cake, though the coffee itself wasn't bad. A bit on the pricier side, but I'd come back to try other drinks if I'm in the area. read more
SOOOO good. Their owner is so sweet--when he heard I was a first timer, he gave me a delicious pastry on the house! This coffee shop is really popular, so my friends and I did have to wait a bit before we were able to order. However, it didn't take more than ~20 minutes on a Saturday morning. The vibes in this coffee shop are elite; it gives true LA. There's not a lot of seating, so most people were just standing and chatting with friends. I got their matcha maple, and it was so delicious. The cream/foam top was beautifully infused with maple flavor, and my friends and I were really impressed. They also got other matcha latte drinks, and everyone really enjoyed their caffeine boost of the day! We were blown away by the pastries, and we hadn't eaten anything all day so it really hit. I hope they open a location in Austin because I know they would have a huge following. read more
It's a cute little coffee shop. Their lines come in waves and many people like to bring their dogs! I got their Okinawa Matcha. The cream top was DELICIOUS but I wish their actual matcha was sweeter. I tried mixing the cream top in with the matcha, but it wasn't as good. Unfortunately I do not think the matcha is worth $8.50. I would definitely come back to try their other specialty drinks! It's right next to Niko Sando! They only have outdoor seating and I saw a large dead beetle under one of their tables :( I would suggest sitting at the outer tables rather than in their little section as it is much more spacious and cleaner! There are plenty of umbrellas and more seating than an average coffee shop. I do not think there are any plugs/outlets, so charge your devices if you plan on studying here! There is street parking or you could try to park in the alley behind the store. They also have a really nice bathroom with heated toliet seats! read more

Got to this place around 9:30am today and it was still pretty empty I suppose since it was early in the morning and a weekday, so luckily I didn't have to wait in a line. I got the matcha colada and it was super good and tastes literally like one they nailed it with that drink. The super nice man who attended me, greeted me and ended up giving me a free pastry on the house. Would definitely come again and they even have outside seating if you are a student and want to catch up on some work. read more
Loving this new coffee spot in Brentwood. A hidden gem off a busy street, Malou is adorable and delicious. I stumbled upon this coffee shop a few months ago during its soft opening and it's quickly become one of my favorites. You can really taste the quality of their coffee and the baristas really care about making you a perfect drink. My personal favorite is their date cardamom latte, but the most popular drink is probably the espresso cold foam. They also have a wide variety of sweet and savory treats. And they have a cute little patio you can sit at while sipping your coffee. Definitely try Malou next time you're in the area. read more
Coffee was so good, it breaks my heart that I have to give this place a 3 because I really did enjoy the coffee, but it was so pricey. I feel like the standard drinks here like the Chai or vanilla latte or priced pretty standard at $7 but the special drinks like the carrot cake and butterscotch latte were a wee bit on the pricier side. My friend and I wanted to make our trip worth so we decided tk get the carrot cake and butterscotch latte. The carrot cake latte had this cream cheese cream layer which blended so well with the coffee. The coffee itself wasnt too strong. I actually liked how muted the expresso was in the latte because I ironically cannot handle caffeine that well lol. I paid like $8 for this drink and then the oat milk sub bumped it up to around $9.50 which is lowk pricey. There were also not too many seats for studying :( their restroom was really nice though, they had seatwarming toilets which was kinda fire lowk. The workers were also super kind and helped my friend and I decide what to order because we were so indecisive. I met a close friend here after she got back from her honeymoon to catch up and we had the most delicious breakfast! I usually walk over for a matcha latte but this time tried their avocado toast which was so delicious! Creamy and tasty on fresh bread. Sprinkled with mint and baby tomatoes this was worth every bite. My friend liked her burrito. It also came with tater tots. Yummy and presented so beautifully. read more
The food and drinks were great but the logistics of coming here is just very inconvenient. I had the okinawa cold foam and it was delicious! They import their matcha from Kyoto Japan and you can taste it in their drinks. Their espresso tonic tasted more sweet than sour which I like! Also had their breakfast brioche which was $16. For $16, I wish there was more protein included other than just egg. The parking of this place is terrible since ifs located in a tight area. Street parking is really nonexistent unless you park far. They do not have a dedicated parking lot. Also, I came on weekday morning and luckily did not have to wait. But Ive seen the lines on Saturday and it looks horrible. There were a good amount of tables for such a small place. I'd avoid this place on the weekend but would come back on weekdays! read more
