i had the yummiest jasmine matcha at malou!! the matcha quality is great, and drinks do not come too sweet :) the foam was creamy and light with some matcha powder sprinkled on top. i also enjoyed the brioche sandwich, i did not realize it came with a side salad so that was a nice surprise. the avocado, egg, and chipotle sauce were just perfect for me! wifi available and some spots to sit, but it didn't seem like staff cleaned the tables, so i ended up clearing one off. parking is available on some side streets, and the line moves pretty quick. i'll be back for the matcha! read more

Had this coffee shop on my list for a while, and I finally got a chance to check it out! The space is cute, with a small patio and a few sidewalk tables for enjoying your drinks outside. I ordered one of their signature drinks, the Okinawa Cold Foam, which is a matcha latte topped with an Okinawa brown sugar cream foam. I got mine with light foam to cut down on the sweetness a bit. I decided to try Malou because it was within walking distance of my friend's apartment and appeared to have enough seating for me to get some work done. Ordering was quick, and I didn't have to wait. I ordered a drip coffee and a pastry (I can't remember the name). Unfortunately, the coffee wasn't to my taste. It had a noticeably sour flavor, whereas I prefer coffee with a richer, roasted bean aroma and taste. The pastry, however, was excellent--fresh, flaky, and definitely the highlight of my visit. I initially found a table on the sidewalk, but the Wi-Fi signal was very weak there. I then moved inside and found a table with bench seating. While the space looked inviting, the seating wasn't very comfortable for working on a laptop for an extended period. We got so lucky with parking!!! Someone left right when we came, and we could park right in front of the cafe on the street. Street parking is hard hard to find. :-( Came on a Saturday around 10:30 AM and it was PACKED, but the line moved surprisingly fast and we only waited around 10 minutes. We got the Matcha Maple Top and Okinawa Cold Foam Matcha. I was honestly really disappointed because I had heard great reviews!! The matcha was way too milky for my liking and lacked that strong matcha flavor I usually look for.... The Maple Top especially barely tasted like matcha at all. Matcha flavor got lost from the maple... The Okinawa Cold Foam was slightly better, but still not strong enough. If you like sweeter, milkier matchas this might be your thing, but I personally prefer a stronger matcha-forward drink. For around $8 a matcha, I expected a lot more. I've been going to Malou since this place first popped up in the area. My friend is a big matcha hound and had this place on her short list of matcha cafes to try. Came here Saturday morning. Line wasn't too long and was able to find seating on their small patio area. I missed the scan code near the entrance and there is no menu posted on the wall. Make sure you scan the code so you're not awkwardly trying to figure out what to order and holding up the line like I was . Tried the iced cardamon latte - it was good but on the milkier side. Saw a lot of people ordering matcha, which looked good; want to try that next time. Also tried the cardamon bun and breakfast burrito. I thought the bun was just okay and a little dry for my taste. This coffee shop is really popular, so my friends and I did have to wait a bit before we were able to order. However, it didn't take more than ~20 minutes on a Saturday morning. The vibes in this coffee shop are elite; it gives true LA. There's not a lot of seating, so most people were just standing and chatting with friends. I got their matcha maple, and it was so delicious. The cream/foam top was beautifully infused with maple flavor, and my friends and I were really impressed. They also got other matcha latte drinks, and everyone really enjoyed their caffeine boost of the day! We were blown away by the pastries, and we hadn't eaten anything all day so it really hit. I came here wanting to try specifically 2 items... #1 - Date Cardamon Latte & #2 -mango croissant. I came here 1 hour before their closing time, so they were out of the mango croissant already, which is understandable. I'll have to come by again in the AM to try this. I did get the Date Cardamon latte, which was my 1st time trying the flavor combo. I believe they make their own date syrup in-house. You can certainly taste the date flavor upon the first sip, however, after the 1st sip, I couldn't specifically taste it anymore. The cardamon spice made up the bulk of the flavor. The espresso was not very strong; will try double shot next time. The drink was on the sweeter side from the data syrup. There were also a lot of chunks in my drink, which I am not sure if that's from the cardamon spice or if it's left over coffee grinds. The inside of the coffee shop has a minimalist design. They do have shelves on the sides of the shop where they sell coffee beans, matcha powder, matcha-flavored nuts, Hojicha flavored walnuts (never heard of this, so I picked me up a can of this), coffee grinders, tea cups and miscellaneous shop swags. The coffee beans were reasonably priced (less than $20/bag). They do have seating outside of the coffee shop for you to enjoy your drink, chill, work, hangout & socialize. read more

Coffee was so good, it breaks my heart that I have to give this place a 3 because I really did enjoy the coffee, but it was so pricey. My friend and I wanted to make our trip worth so we decided tk get the carrot cake and butterscotch latte. The carrot cake latte had this cream cheese cream layer which blended so well with the coffee. The coffee itself wasnt too strong. I actually liked how muted the expresso was in the latte because I ironically cannot handle caffeine that well lol. I paid like $8 for this drink and then the oat milk sub bumped it up to around $9.50 which is lowk pricey. There were also not too many seats for studying :( their restroom was really nice though, they had seatwarming toilets which was kinda fire lowk. There are plenty of umbrellas and more seating than an average coffee shop. I do not think there are any plugs/outlets, so charge your devices if you plan on studying here! Loving this new coffee spot in Brentwood. A hidden gem off a busy street, Malou is adorable and delicious. I stumbled upon this coffee shop a few months ago during its soft opening and it's quickly become one of my favorites. You can really taste the quality of their coffee and the baristas really care about making you a perfect drink. There was a smallish line on a Saturday morning around 10:30am, but it moved quickly. Gave me a few minutes to listen to the lovely (that is sarcasm) typical young BW couple behind me debate about whether they were going to wait in line or not because last time he had to wait and it was just totally unacceptable. Calm down dude, untie your sweater from your shoulder's and all will be fine. *insert eyeroll here* That being said, my espresso cold foam was DE-licious. A real treat. Sweet, smooth and velvety. My only complaint was that it comes in a 9oz serving and I would have been happy with a 12-16oz size, wired espresso overload be damned. Will I be back? If I'm in the area and have found parking. For $16, I wish there was more protein included other than just egg. The parking of this place is terrible since ifs located in a tight area. Street parking is really nonexistent unless you park far. They do not have a dedicated parking lot. Also, I came on weekday morning and luckily did not have to wait. But Ive seen the lines on Saturday and it looks horrible. My friend decided on the Houjicha and it was pretty standard. It may have been the owner or GM that asked if it was out first time stopped by, it was, and decided to gift us a free cheese danish that was also spectacular. So excited to welcome Malou Coffee as one of the newest cafes to Brentwood! This place is popping and for good reason, and I definitely think it's worth checking out! Comparatively, their authentic Uji matcha quality is SO much better than other hyped up matcha cafes in West LA, and I absolutely loved their Okinawa Matcha latte, which brought back nostalgic memories of Japan. Their cafe menu also offers pastries and different coffee drinks, which I'll have to be back for. The baristas and owner were also very friendly, and the owner even came out to talk to customers when the cafe was less busy and invited us to an Uji matcha tasting event! My only gripe is the parking situation- on a super busy stretch of San Vicente, it's already HORRIBLE trying to find street parking that's not permit only in that area. There is a parking lot behind the cafe, but only certain spots are allowed for Malou Coffee, which are not clearly marked. The valet was extremely rude and insisted I pay $10 in cash!! (Atrocious considering the parking lot was in the alley) or else he would tow me immediately. He even chased after another car onto the upper level of the parking lot to demand they pay the $10 fee. After he handled my car, I also had a front wheel issue. Obviously, the horrible valet situation is not by any means the fault of Malou, but I hope the owner can work out an agreement with the parking lot so that there are more self-parking spaces allotted for their customers without having to go through valet. read more
