    Iced Matcha Latte
    Erin T.

Stopped by Upside Down after hearing great things from a few friends. Upside Down is a super convenient and cozy cafe located right in Westwood. It's a non-profit organization, so you can actually choose how much you want to pay for your drink. This makes it super affordable, especially for college students. Plus, your first drink is free! I got an Iced Matcha Latte with Oat Milk lightly sweetened, and it was pretty good. Not the most standout matcha I've had, but can't say it was the worst either. Still, considering the price point I would say it's still worth it. The ambiance of the cafe is elegant, chill, and comfy with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. It's a great place to relax, chat with friends, or get some studying done. They also have free Wi-Fi, making it an easy go-to study spot. During peak hours, I believe they can get a bit busy but I've never had too much trouble finding a seat. The staff are super friendly and efficient, and I never have to wait long for my drink, even when it's busy. Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area whether it's stopping by for a quick caffeine fix or looking for a cozy place to study.

Got to visit campus and this sweet spot a couple last times this summer and rounded up my collection of matcha/vanilla lattes, all made with lots of care!

I had no idea this coffee shop was so close to me! I happened to be passing by the area and noticed so many people inside studying/working. I ordered an iced L'Chaim, which they gave to me on the house since it was my first time there! They are a donation-based coffee shop and you can choose however much you want to pay (minimum $1) so it's truly accessible to everyone. I enjoyed my coffee and will definitely be back again to try their other drinks!

Just had an amazing first experience here! I attended one of their coffee tastings. Due to the recent tragedies here in LA they did it a little differently, but it was still so great so intimate and so much fun chatting with coffee lovers. The staff is so incredible, so knowledgeable about coffee, so passionate, friendly and welcoming. Had a great time chatting with Isaac, Abigail and Sam. Can't wait to return for more events, just to pick up some coffee and for a very special Coffee Tasting Isaac was sweet enough to schedule with me for my oldest son's upcoming birthday. I highly recommend them for an amazing cup of coffee as well as their events.

Upside down cafe has to be the best coffee shop in Westwood yet. Amenities: To get here, you can park at the Broxton parking garage for 2 hours free before 5PM. After 5PM it is $5 flat rate. Otherwise, the parking in Ralph's and Target are free for 2 hours with validation, which is an automatic scanning validating machine that doesn't require you to purchase anything The cafe is spacious with many indoor and outdoor seatings. It also converts into an art gallery or is hosted with events once in a while. For example, I attended its 5th birthday anniversary where I paid $5.17 for 5 8-oz coffee drinks. The shop is super crowded though and the staff takes a while to make each drink. If you don't mind waiting for at least 30 minutes for your drink at 1PM, you can come. I do recommend don't come during rush hour (which I have no idea when). Drinks Keylime pie matcha latte is my favorite drink. The added pie crumps add additional crunch to the drink. It is sweet and doesn't taste much of matcha which is fine with me because normally I despite matcha. 5/5 Tiramisu latte: this is my second favorite drink. It has a hint of bitterness with additionally cocoa (maybe) powder on top. 5/5 Birthday cake latte: I think this drink tastes so so. It is like any other latte I've had. The foam didn't have a flavor to it. It is more sweet than regular latte (or tiramisu latte). 4/5 orange vanilla cappuccino: I don't think orange vanilla goes well together with coffee. It has a hideous, sour taste due to the orange. I couldn't sense the vanilla it in. I ended up throwing away the whole drink after 2 sips. I wouldn't buy this nor drink it for free/ 0/5 Service: ‍Staff are friendly and welcoming. They can be slow though so take your time to order and enjoy the drinks. I don't recommend coming before class because you may run late to class.

I got an espresso and matcha latte and they were good. I was really excited to come back, but unsure now. I was sitting at the community table in the center and a Christian lady started talking to me about her religious and political views. It was fine at first even if I didn't agree with her views, but when I mentioned I was Buddhist, she started saying my religion was fake and how Buddhism has "fake gods". I'm not even super religious, but this made me so uncomfortable and I just politely told her I didn't want to continue the conversation. I could have chalked this up to a random encounter with another customer but she was sitting with the resident artists they have here. This makes me hesitant to come back as I did not feel that it was a safe space for me here. Otherwise, the concept could have been great.

The matcha cream was smooth, flavorful, and not too bitter nor dry. Good quality. The sweetness and smooth texture of the coconut water was refreshing and provided just the right amount of sweetness. They also gave me a cup of the coconut water used which was also sweet and refreshing. The barista was also super nice and you can tell that he enjoyed his job and interacting with the customers. I arrived around 6:13 AM, 17 minutes before opening, after dropping a friend off nearby for her work at Trader Joe's in Westwood who starts @6am. Usually when I have an early work call, I go to Bluestone Café because of the ambiance I've experienced before as a former UCLA Student, who is now Recently Graduated Btw. I asked Angel if it was okay to sit and get set up while HE finished opening, I also offered to help if needed, and he was friendly and understanding, and I only set up 1 table because it was out of the kindest of my heart AND he was awesome. Not even 6 minutes passed by but, I could tell he's a solid, smile oriented customer service worker with a big heart. A few minutes later, at 6:22am Carol approached me and told me to leave, after I had just ordered because Angel was treating me with 5 star hospitality! The restaurant was not open yet, AND I completely understand that a business has opening hours, and I would have had no problem waiting outside if that had been communicated respectfully by the "owner." The issue was the way the owner of Bluestone Café, Carol, spoke to me as her claiming she's "the owner" because she knows people in the district? Ok carol. She raised her voice, treated me like I was a problem, and made me feel extremely unwelcome. I left upset because the situation did not need to be handled that way. Angel, however, remained kind and professional, and I want to make clear that this review is not about him. Angel provided excellent customer service. "I was a disturbance," allegedly though to Carol when I asked why she raised her voice at me like that. No where near was I about to counter her asking me to leave originally, just wanted breakfast before my call and I was willing to wait, Angel knows it... but Carol? Man, she's lucky I didn't give a WORSE review than this one. By the way, this is my 3rd yelp review in the last 5 years, so when I gave the option for her not to act so disrespectful, she turned it up 10x. Completely unacceptable to treat anyone that way, and trust me I know the homeless problem in LA is bad. Hello I was in burberrys and a UCLA sweatshirt with my Tumi Backpack labeled "CB" (my initials), and in my 1300 european shoes I bought also known as burberrys... anyways I confusingly and surprisingly stated "I mean should I leave a 1star review?" Because I was astonished that the owner was continually being so disrespectful, but Carol responded by saying "I'm just going to counter it don't worry, we'll handle it"... who's we Carol? Overall, I was very disappointed by how the owner handled the situation. A simple, respectful explanation would have been enough. Instead, I felt disrespected and embarrassed, and I will not be returning to this location because of CAROL. :) However, Angel, and your coworkers, YOU guys are AWESOME for real. Food is good as always.

OKAY. nothing to rave about. it's there when you wanna feel superior over ur friends getting starbucks across the street. the price? ALOT LMFAO. my tiny drink (smallest size btw) cost TEN DOLLARS. this gives me a love/hate relationship with LA and their coffee scene because that is ridiculous. all because i asked for an extra shot of matcha... a DOLLAR. i'm from the IE and no drink costs more than 8 bucks with adjustments, which is still a lot but at least they're small businesses. i heard from my friend other Alfred's have much greener matches, because even with my extra shot it wasn't as potent. nonetheless, the peach syrup was absolutely delicious and not artificial at all.... BUT THERE WASNT ENOUGH. i had to ask for extra syrup when my friend's same order was initially sweeter. the coconut foam was yummy too, but it's just the lack of consistency and attention to detail that cannot justify the really STEEP price of this place. any other small-business would weigh out the matcha, syrups, make sure the price is reasonable (i think), and so forth. i don't think i'll be back to alfred's westwood location, but if the desire for fruity milk and the slightest bit of matcha flavor hits me, maybe another location would do...
