    Hallway to the escape rooms.

My group had a great time at Escapology. The lobby is very comfortable as you wait for your room to be ready, and there are bathrooms and drinking water available. Grace was great at prepping us for the room and answering any questions we had before and after the room. You also get two short prep videos when you're in the room. We played two rooms: Lost City and Antidote. Both were reasonably challenging, and the set design is very high quality. Our group of four managed to escape from both rooms, with some help from the game masters. They give you "nudge" hints if they see your group struggling, but you can always request for them to omit the nudges.

My wife has successfully escaped from about 15 rooms, while I have had over 100 escape experiences throughout the years. I am sad to report that Escapology Pasadena disappointed us with their rooms. We kept returning hoping the next room would be better, completing 3 of their rooms, but it only got worse with each experience. Escape rooms are one of my favourite things in life, trying places all over the US and some internationally. I cannot recommend Escapology Pasadena to anyone, though. First, the gamemasters seem to be running multiple rooms because they either respond to you after a few minutes of pressing the assist button, or they are giving you nudges/hints on puzzles that you've already solved. We've always found great gamemasters will follow your journey diligently, working to give you the best experience, but at Escapology, they do not seem to care for your experience at all. You do feel like just another number for them. It is especially frustrating when you have the correct solution, but the tech isn't triggered, so the gamemaster gives you a "hint" in the form of the solution to the puzzle that you have recently solved. It does not help your game progress, and you lose time. Second, the rooms were very dark (except Scooby), and you're only given one flashlight. I like the immersion, but if you have hints and puzzles hidden in dark places, then provide better lighting or more handheld lights for the group. Finally, there are average puzzles, and there are poorly-designed puzzles at Escapology. The staff repeatedly and enthusiastically expressed that "their rooms are hard." Nothing stumped us in terms of complexity. Puzzles just weren't great. Fun rooms will provide clear cues and clues to solve tasks and guide you to the next or other puzzles, eliciting problem solving from the group. At Escapology Pasadena, you either see it and try possible avenues of solutions or you don't and are left to wonder/wander. Too often you may feel, "Oh, that's the puzzle here? Why would I ever make that connection?" The positives here are that there is great decor in the waiting room and the halls, and the escape rooms themselves are nicely fabricated. Additionally, this location is a new opening, so it's still clean. If you do decide to do a second room, they offer 50% discount for a same day booking. We shall not be returning, though. It does not feel that they care for your experience and just want people to book rooms. Scooby was the best of the three rooms we did, but we were disappointed to find the puzzles weren't as fun as anticipated for such a great and colourful theme.

I booked the reservation originally for 3 people knowing I can add more on the day of the event. Whatever price your event was booked for, the additional players will be charged the same price because it will be linked to the reservation. I just had them charge my card on file and everyone else just paid me separately. Came here again to try 7 Deadly Sins with some friends. The host was great and he mentioned to me that they read my previous review (thanked me and said I was the only one to notice it) and have corrected the starting videos for the rooms in regards to the hints and what not (you're welcome, hehe). This room does have flashing lights and fog machine! So please be careful if you have any sensitivity to these conditions. So far, the two rooms I've experienced (Scooby and 7 deadly sins), came with a notepad and a flashlight. The rooms are a bit dark making some of the things hard to see/find. 7 deadly sins came with a blacklight. They give you a 5 minute grace period if needed before your group enters the room. Also, late comers are okay! They can join in the room at any time because the door doesn't lock behind them. That doesn't mean that you can easily win, haha. What I also noticed that the hints given feel somewhat personal. Meaning the GM is "typing" the hints. We were somewhat stuck on a puzzle and the prompt said something "you're so close!..." I felt the hints took longer than 10 seconds to produce, lol... We broke the curse, and survived the 7 deadly sins! Most of us felt colorblind afterwards, without giving away too much of the room, but we all had fun! They got some props in for their photo backdrop! I will be back! Also, each room you experience, you get a bracelet to commemorate the room!

Did Pirate's Curse as a party of 2 and had a great time! We didn't escape and were cursed forever, but it was super fun and the riddles were challenging and piratey. Great date night! They just opened last Friday so this is a great addition to Paseo. They have 9 rooms available and the waiting areas are themed. We will Definitely return to try other rooms and maybe even the same one to try to finish it lol. Cost is $49.99 pp but you are on a private room so that's cool. Arrrrr!!! Grace and Josh were awesome.

It's become one of our favorite things to do, and this visit was no exception! A huge shoutout to Natasha and Byan--they were absolutely amazing hosts. From the moment we walked in, they were welcoming, energetic, and set such a fun tone for the whole experience. They explained everything clearly, kept the excitement going, and made us feel totally immersed in the game. You can tell they genuinely enjoy what they do, and that energy really makes a difference. The room itself was a blast, but Natasha and Byan are what made this visit especially memorable. If you're thinking about trying Escapology, I highly recommend it--and if you get Natasha and Byan as your hosts, you're in for an even better time. We'll definitely be back again!

We ended up booking the room with hesitation and really should've just walked away. We did the 7 Deadly Sins room and it has an element that is "not hooked up" or aka broken. We finished the game with 22 minutes to spare because the game master did not let us struggle for long, before giving an extra detailed clue where it took the fun out of trying to figure out a puzzle. We've done 70+ escape rooms and this one by far in our bottom 10.

Toria, our host was friendly and ensured we had a great experience, going above and beyond what I typically see from most gamemasters. The new games are Vampire vs. Witch and Black Hole. I would strongly recommend Vampire vs. Witch with a smaller group and have the roles swapped out afterwards so you can best experience both puzzle tracks. I would say that, for a 15 minute game, Vampire vs. Witch was pretty cool, definitely worth the small price and would work well if you didn't have too much time or wanted a warmup for either Fatal Invitation or Black Hole. For Chinese speakers, there's also the option to switch the language in the room, but when I played the default was English. There's also an integrated hint system which allows you to communicate through a tablet, which doubles as your timer for the room. Despite having some minor technical issues on a follow-up visit with a different gamemaster, we did have a backup walkie so make sure to keep that one close by as well. Overall, I thought that these were fun rooms that, without giving away too much, challenged the norms of typical escape game style puzzles in a way that was refreshing and cleverly entertaining.

However, we came across Escape Duck, and we both happy to hear they accept walk-in! Another criteria I was looking for was a beginner friendly escape room. After chatting with the staff, we decided to do the Sherlock experience. Luckily, that room was still opened even at around 4 pm. We spent the entire hour in there and were close to finishing. Overall, we were both very engaged, but enjoyed the experience. I would come back to try the other rooms in the future. In terms of payment, keep in mind that they do not accept card payment. They do accept Venmo or Zelle.
