Wow, what a cool idea! Came here with a bachelorette party and had a blast. You won't see many pictures on yelp for this business because they ask that you minimize picture taking as it could spoil/give away how to solve certain puzzles. This is something I would certainly like to try again. I can see this as a game you might not want to do with you significant other because the time constraint can be stressful and result in some bickering, so make sure you go with a good group! There are cameras watching you the whole time and if the moderators think you need help, then a hint will be cast on a screen for you where the timer is. Some or many decorations can just be useless decoys too. We were on our last clue and just BARELY missed finishing the puzzle! Maybe next time :) The reason for 4/5 stars is the facility we used was a tad worn, possibly from a lot of use/traffic/repurposed building/whatever. Thanks for a good time! read more

We came so close to escaping!!! I had read about this place before it opened and it seemed cool so when I saw Yelp was raffling off free chances to experience it I threw my hat into the ring. Luckily I won and I had an absolute blast. We were supposed to be a group of 6 but only 4 of us showed up, we were still able to get through the puzzles but it's more manageable with more people. This would be a great team building event or a night out with friends but even if you don't have a full group they will pair you with others to make a team. . . we were a group of strangers and we worked together great! This was my first time trying anything like this so I felt a bit confused and unsure what to do when we first got in the room but once we found and solved our first puzzle it all started to flow more easily. You don't need to be great at puzzles to figure this out, in fact some things were easier when we didn't over think them. . . those "duh" moments were also pretty funny. I can't wait to go back with a bigger group to try The Gallery or to try the smaller room again when they change it out. It was challenging, a little stressful (in a good way) and so much fun. read more

What a unique experience, so enjoyable! They have several different scenarios you can choose from, one room is up to 10 people and the other rooms are up to 6 people. We had a group of 9 that went and we had no idea what to expect. There was plenty of parking outside and when we got in, the people there were so friendly and excited about their business. We were put in a room and had to work with clues to open various locks. If you take too long they will try to give you hints via the TV they have. Do not fear, if you need to leave the room for whatever reason there is one door that is always open so you are not 'locked in for good'. If you are looking for a great team building experience, a fun night out with friends, or just something different to do, this is the place. You do not need to have a large group to go as anyone can sign up. You also don't need to be a great problem solver as it is just a fun experience and everyone works together. You get a fun picture at the end and they welcomed us to come back to try the other scenarios. They do change at least one of them every few months so this is a place you can frequent. read more

I had such a blast at Escape Rhode Island; there were 5 of us in our group and we chose the Green Room Study. Only 1 in our group had done something similar in MA, so the rest of us were virgins and didn't have a clue what to expect. Upon arrival, we all had to sign a waiver and wait for the other group who booked the Red Room Study before we could start. The gentleman running the show was informative on what we could/could not do/touch in the room itself. Without giving away spoilers, I can only tell you that if you're looking for something new, interesting, challenging and fun, then you most definitely need to book a room at Escape Rhode Island! It's a fantastic opportunity to flex your brain muscle but be prepared to be patient throughout the process as not everything is what it seems! Overall, I had a very memorable experience. A friend and I played The Gallery on opening night and had a total blast. The puzzles were fun, clever, and had a great sense of variety. They also unfold in a nice sequence - it's never clear what you'll need to do next, and one thing leads naturally to the other - and our group had a couple of "no way!" moments as it dawned on us what we would have to do next. It's worth noting that I've never done an escape room before, so I don't have other points of comparison. There were also just four of us running the ten-person room, which made finishing the room in an hour pretty brutal - there were a lot of puzzles! - and I don't have a sense of how it'd be with a full ten. The operators did a good job of helping us along with hints that were generous but not too blatant, and were often pretty funny to boot. In the end we aaaalmost made it :P read more

So, this was a lot of fun. My girlfriend and I were looking for something different to do on a Friday and we decided to check out ERI. As neither of us had done anything similar before, we were unsure of what to expect. Basically, the games are kind of like MacGuyver meets National Treasure. The staff was friendly and helpful as we arrived and our operator walked us through the objective and basic do's and don'ts of the game, i.e., don't rip out floor boards looking for clues or try to rewire a panel of lights. We played Ex Machina, which, we were told is their most difficult game. No doubt! I'm not going to rehash the story -- you can find it on the ERI site -- but I will tell you that the hour goes by incredibly fast. There's so many clues and riddles to uncover that you have to work as a team (we were with two other couples) if you're going to be successful. You can tell that a number of smart, creative people worked hard to put these games together. We're looking forward to going again soon. read more

Escape Rhode Island is one of the more unique experiences I have had in awhile. I came here as part of a team building activity with work. You have 1 hour to escape 1 of 4 different scenarios by looking for clues within the room and solving puzzles to get more clues. I do not want to give away too much more and spoil the experience. It is a different way to spend some time and a lot of fun. One of the rooms can accommodate a group up to 10 people and the other 3 are for groups of up to 6 people. The experience is more tailored for teenagers and adults because the puzzles can be challenging. If you are looking for something fun and unique, I would highly recommend Escape Rhode Island! This is a great way to spend an hour! my experience was with the room called "the study". EscapeRI is great for groups or you can be paired with other people if you don't have enough to fill the room. There are a wide variety of types of puzzles to figure out and you don't need to be a master to enjoy the game. Time moves pretty quick in the room and you'll get sucked into the storyline. Unbelievably fun!! This was my third escape room - it was so clever and the technology and features within the room were super cool. There was a group of 6 of us, which seemed like the perfect size to work together but also not have so many minds and ideas bouncing around at the same time. Joey was our Escape Room Master who gave us tips and tricks before we went in and also helped us out with some clues when we got stuck in the room. He was such a nice and funny guy! Last time I visited ERI, it was on the first weekend they were open, and there were some mildly annoying technical issues. We went back today and tried a room that had been open for a few months (Ex Machina) in the hope that it would be more refined. The atmosphere, theme, and story were all really solid, the puzzles were challenging and coherent, and there were a lot of really ambitious technical elements that worked very smoothly. So I'm bumping up my rating. They just added another 6-person room, The Mausoleum, and I will definitely check it out after it's been running long enough for any bugs to disappear. (Though we talked to the operator about it, and he said that the first few runs of it have gone off without a hitch; they learned a lot from their first few rooms!) read more

This was a blast. I went with a group of 14, most of us first-timers to escape games. We split into two groups and did the same puzzle, the Study, in different rooms. Both teams escaped, but it definitely wasn't easy! I don't want to give anything away, but the puzzle kept surpassing expectations. There were tools to uncover and use in satisfying ways, and there's even a background story to the entire puzzle room to piece together for the more attentive participants. I'm looking forward to coming back sometime with other friends to try another room out. I should note that I've only done one other puzzle room experience, and that was in Boston through another organization. Although both are fun, Escape Rhode Island's experience was much more immersive and creative. read more

We recently went to escape rhode island and it was a blast! Joey ran our group and did a fantastic job! We did the ex machina room and it was perplexing at first but once we got rolling it was great solving each oart of the puzzle. The story line was good and each puzzle was extremely challenging. I'd had Escape Room on my list of things to do for a while and finally booked the outing with another of our puzzle-loving friends. Since our escape theme had room for two more, we were put with another couple. The host led us into a small room and described to us our mission, we had to collect 5 secret documents and find our way out of the room in 1 hour. He would be watching us so if we got stuck, clues would pop up on a monitor to help us. Note: the main door to the room is actually unlocked for emergencies including bathroom emergencies so don't panic if you tend to get claustrophobic. We immediately set to work looking for clues and solving puzzles. I liked that the game had a lot of different puzzles, like solving a morse code clue (the key was pasted to the wall) and utilizing a chess board. My team got so close to the end, but didn't end up escaping within the hour. Still, we had such a great time, I would definitely go back. read more

This was so fun! With Libby as our guide, my friends and I did the speakeasy escape room the other night. This was my first escape room with Escape Rhode Island, but I've done many before. I liked that the room was a good blend of different types of puzzles, finding random crap around the room, and more. This particular room I really enjoyed learning that there are a handful of standard clues that all operators use, but then operators can present some in their own way. It makes me think that each experience, even when doing the room, is a little unique. It was definitely a challenging room, but my friends and I made it out and even made it onto the leader board! It was very G-rated and nothing scary happened. Be sure to arrive a little early to allow time to find street parking, sign the waiver, use the restroom if needed, and get an intro from your operator before you start. Special thanks for having late night slots available! I am excited to try more rooms including the new ones that they'll have in the new year. I'll definitely be back! read more

This is the third escape room I've visited and this is by far the best one I've been to. I did the Bunker as part of a group of 8 (you can have up to 10) and this was the perfect challenge for the right amount of people. Without divulging what needed to happen, I can tell you that no one was standing around doing nothing and it required a lot of coordination. What I really liked about this location is that you get 10% off your next booking (great business incentive right?) and if you have to leave to use the restroom there is an exit you can go through and then get back into the game. I did The Mausoleum as part of a team activity and it was fun but I grew bored near the end. The atmosphere of The Mausoleum is cool, but I don't get excited about solving arcane puzzles. I'd go again if we decided to have another team activity here, but I'd probably pretend I was a zombie and chase after the other people instead of actually trying to solve the puzzles. read more

Really fun! Went with my parents and friends and played Andromeda. We did not finish, since the first room took up a large chunk of time, but we got close. I had done escape rooms prior to this, but no one else in my group had. It's definitely a challenge, especially if you've never played a room before, but a very good way to spend an hour and a good way to bond (or argue) with friends. Great atmosphere and storyline to the room. Most likely returning next month to play another room. Would recommend checking it out. In addition, the staff was absolutely amazing. We got stuck in Providence traffic due to a bad accident and ended up being late, but the woman in charge of our group just filled us in on the rules super quick and let us in so that we would have the maximum amount of time. (But if you know you will be late, it's best to call in advance, since there's only a certain amount of time they can wait until you have to reschedule.) read more

I came to Escape RI a few Fridays ago as a team building work event. It was my first escape room experience ever and I couldn't have been more pleased! The two guys running everything were very cool and informative. They have cool games in their waiting area to keep you occupied. Don't let the location deter you, as the rooms are really fun and well put together! We completed the mausoleum themed room in 57 minutes as newbies. They provide a lot to help you succeed but also let you have fun and figure things out. They have you in groups of 6 people maximum, and that's great because then everyone has a chance to do something. Although this is pricier than say a movie or mini golf, I thought it was a complete blast! They also offer student discounts which was great for us. I hope to return and do the other themed rooms they have! read more

My family has been three times, having played through all the currently available rooms. It's become my absolute favorite pastime! The rush of a padlock unlocking or a door opening to another room is just unbeatable. Ultimately, it's a test of communication. You can have a team of geniuses but if you don't talk to each other, you can waste valuable time spinning your wheels. So much fun! Significantly better than the often overpriced and underwhelming Escapes in NYC. You can really see and feel all of the work that went into each of the rooms. The price is definitely worth it! The Ex Machina game was non-stop fun, and so well thought out! Each of the puzzles were challenging but not frustrating, and all 6 members of my team were engaged at all times. Hints were just enough to get us out of the room in just under an hour without giving anything major away--and the hints are tailored to the things you're struggling with in the moment! The locks are awesome, there's something about physically opening a thing that is so satisfying. Lots of electrical mini-games and puzzles really add to the experience. For claustrophobics, the room is fairly spacious (even with a team of 6-8) and there's always the option to exit. There aren't any scary elements or surprise moments, so it's super safe. Too, the location is ideal--lots to see and do around ERI! Awesome job to Ethan and the whole business. I can't wait to watch them grow! read more

I came here with a group of nine and we did "the bunker". However they change the games out every 6 months. We had a fun time except towards the end of our game, there was a faulty puzzle. We spent maybe 15 minutes trying to attempt it (with the correct answer). An employee came out to try it with us and was also having a hard time getting it to work. He basically blamed our counting skills when it turns out he attempted the puzzle multiples times to try to get it to work. This left a bit of a sour taste in some members of our group. We ended up escaping so personally I didn't find an issue with it. It was more so the person condescending tone. I felt they could have just said the puzzle is temperamental instead of blaming us. With that being said I only deducted one star. We still had a great time and it was a nice way to spend an hour. There were also a variety of puzzles which was nice! I would still recommend trying it out! read more

Yes, they get 5 stars. I've done 3 out of 4 of the rooms so far. Been with the same core group, but one of them is a 10 person and we did end up having 2 people we didn't know join us. It was okay I guess, but there was definitely 2-3 people who stood around and did nearly nothing. I'd recommend spending the extra few bucks each to buy out the room if you only have 7-8 people. The lobby is pretty small and they do have 2 rooms starting at the same time, so it can be a little awkward. The building has inconspicuous signage but that's part of the allure. I'll be back in February for ex machina! read more

Went for the first time and had a blast with my group! We played "The Mausoleum" which had a lot of really clever twists and turns. My group plays DnD together and we had been itching to have a more "real-life" puzzle solving adventure. Escape Rhode Island definitely scratched this itch and we will be going back to try to escape another room. The only reason I am not giving this review 5 stars is because they accidently left one lock "unlocked" from a previous group and we ended up wasting close to ten minutes trying to find a lock that matched up to that key we found. Will update this review if next experience doesn't have any issues! read more

Escape RI was overall pretty good. Went with a group of 7 and all had a good experience. The signage to find it was less than ideal on the exterior of the bldg. The reservations on-line worked great, but upon arrival to the place the front area was super cramp as the other group was also there and it was difficult to understand what was up... One of the employees finally acknowledged us and then proceeded to explain the rules to both groups. I think customer service was ok and could be improved upon...low energy and lacking enthusiasm...as they say...first impressions. The actual Escape room experience was fun. Though we did not make it out before our time ran out, the concept for our room was not overly creative. May go back to try the other room, but likely with a different group of people. Took my kids and it may have been a bit too much first them. 30 bucks was a fair price, but the concept could be improved. read more

I did 'The Study' with 3 friends and 2 strangers. We all had a blast. I plan to return with my colleagues to do 'The Gallery'. The puzzles are really interesting and the commitment to the theme is well done -- they set the scene well but it's not tacky or overly reliant on effects (versus 5 Wits in MA which is fun but more about the effects than the strength of the puzzles). There's a monitor in each room so the operators can feed you clues so you don't get stuck for too long. This keeps things moving + interesting and means Escape RI 'scales' well for people of all ages and puzzle solving abilities. The operators were good at feeding us clues at the right time, and were generally friendly and knowledgable. Overall, Escape is a really fun activity for any kind of group! Came here today for a mini-reunion with some of my friends and wow was it great! I've never done an escape room before, and I'm glad this was my first experience with one. We did Mausoleum and somehow were able to solve the puzzle with 1 minute left to spare. I absolutely loved all of the puzzles, they were difficult and required a lot of thinking and teamwork but definitely interesting and possible to solve. Everything seemed to flow, and we really had to work together which I enjoyed. The team there was really good - our "spirit guide" (who I forget his name, but he was great!) was extremely helpful and nice. "Escaping" was extremely gratifying, and I not only had a lot of fun, but was able to exercise my brain with all the puzzles. I already have plans to go back and try another room! 10/10, would recommend if you're ever looking for a fun time and way to spend an hour. Great job!!! read more

A very unique and different experience and FUN! When we had signed up the only room that had not been booked was "the study" which was a room that could hold max of 6 people. However there are other rooms that hold 10 or 12 as well. The location can be a bit tricky to find but look for the big sign with the big key and you are golden. Once you go upstairs you sign in on a computer , sign a waiver and a host greets you and brings you to your "room". The room we were in was small but not to the point where I ever felt claustrophobic or uncomfortable in any way. The puzzles were extremely clever and well thought out. Just when we thought we were done we were suprised with another challenge. Everyone had fun ! read more
