I just woke up this morning and went to the restroom on my way out of the building and when I got out the restroom the cleaning lady mumbled something under her breathe so I looked back to see if she was talking about me and she had her phone out recording me. So I recorded her back. This is getting ridiculous you guys. You are violating my right to quiet enjoyment. Had issues like this before with security they have a photo of my ID and walked me back to my room at one point. After we called the office, I thought it was all a misunderstanding, but now that your cleaning lady is recording me after I was done using the restroom, its clear this establishment isn't taking anything seriously. read more

I am a Retired USAF Veteran and I know the meaning of "Great" customer service. Ms. Erica (Community Director) and Ms. Angela (Manager in Training) gave my Son just that; "Exceptional" and "Outstanding" customer service. They were "Top notch" and made his stay at Escape Apartment Homes very pleasurable. From step 1 to step 10 they took their time going over all our questions and gave him an impeccable apartment stay experience; the service we received was "Exemplary". Erica is the nicest manager we've ever met and has so much compassion for her residents. The apartment complex is very clean and welcoming; a quiet, safe, and very well maintained place if you are single or have a family. Erica was extremely helpful and she ensured the move in / move out process was easy. She was an absolute joy to work with; Bar none. Escape Apartment Homes was my Son's apartment home for two years. He absolutely enjoyed his time while he was there. Erica and her entire office staff were are always helpful and professional. If there was ever a maintenance issue it was addressed in a timely manner; great and super attentive to anything he needed. All of the amenities are amazing; pools, BBQ grills, gym, clubhouse, underground covered parking - an all in one community. He thoroughly enjoyed living there and would recommend it to anyone who is considering moving looking for a nice apartment home. When it comes time to getting your deposit they will make up stuff and lie to try and get more money from you. Trust the reviews when they tell you DO NOT MOVE HERE. Escape being considered "luxury" is beyond an exaggeration. I moved in when it was owned by PB Bell, and when Weidner took over everything went drastically downhill. They have signage posted in the mail rooms and elevators that it is voted a "five-star community" and the footer is backdated to 2020 because they clearly can't claim that anymore, just look at their Yelp score, there is a reason it is the lowest compared to all of the surrounding apartments. Upon move-out they will take your entire deposit plus significantly more. I have never had a more awful move-out experience. They will set up a pre move out inspection offering to go over anything they might plan to charge you for and then they will never show up so you'll have no way to prepare for any of the charges that they come up with. When I tried to address this, I was told that they'll "make sure to take the appropriate steps in the future to not miss appointments".. well that's great but how does that help? Then you will get a surprise bill that they'll nickel and dime you on, but with a massive markup. They are clearly looking to make a PROFIT from you moving out. During the time living here, I have dealt with car break-ins, people will park in your assigned spot that you pay for, the gates and elevators were constantly broken, people will let their dogs poop on the carpet in the hallways and leave it, and if you live under/above/next door to ANYONE, you'll hear every single sound. They supposedly have security, but any time I called they would say it will take a while because they were at their other property that night in GILBERT. You will never be able to get ahold of anyone in the office by phone and they will wait days to reply to emails. The trash service that you pay for doesn't even show up half of the time to take your trash out, so the hallways are always disgusting and smell. This was the worst living situation I have experienced, and moving to a Camden property was the best decision I have made. read more

The GM is beyond cold, disaffected, dismissive, and all but rude. The staff take their cues from her. I have been calling Escape Apartments home for 2 years, from upgrading from a 1 bedroom to a 2 bedroom. No complaints from the living space to the leasing office. Never had any issues with the staff. The Manager Erica made it easy to upgrade to a new floor plan. The staff is always so friendly. The area is close to Downtown and Biltmore Plazas Also, this place is one of the cleanest apartment communities I've ever lived in. read more

These apartments are NOT worth what you pay unless you like to have to walk thru dog pee every day had to complain to the office multiple time is ridiculous & I've even seen people letting there pets inside the pool like disgusting I love animals but come on people when you can't clean up after them that's just plain rude to other residents !!!!! Also they have dog area but seems like No One uses it because all the areas with rocks smell like urine BAD. The walls inside your apartment are so thin that if you want to play music at noon you can't you get voicemail or a nock on the door from the office that the music is too loud like it's on my tv I don't have a suround sound so that is crazy if I pay this much they should have made the wall thicker considering it's not a cheap place to rent. Mia in the office is great everyone else can't say the same for........ Also, there is supposed to be a security guard at night but bums and drugies dig in the trash often DO NOT LEAVE your CAR UNLOCKED they will go thru it like it's their own. The parking sucks because multiple cars are either just abandoned there parked for months on end or people have a lot of guests and parking is scarce....... Don't let me begin on the MOVE-OUT they will keep your deposit even if you clean and everything is looking good even my carpet was clean only marks from furniture, and they say you have to clean the carpet profesianly which is ridiculous almost 100 dollars to do smoothing they have to do anyways not cool at all oh don't move out early like I did because well I'm tired of this hell hole & I'm having a baby needed a better environment for my newborn because they will not even let you slide on ur last week even under all the crazy stuff going on with Covid not a single rent adjustment no little break Nothing it's truly ludicrous considering how much I just paid these people in year NEVER AGIN!!!!!!!!!! At first, I thought my issue was with the Santan Flats but now I'm noticing my issues with the whole Widener community. Not only has the staff made me feel unwelcome, uncomfortable, and constantly like my life and safety was at risk, but after my apartment was broken into and the perpetrator Was not detained nor charge with anything. As well, I filed an insurance claim, and it was also denied. I would never in my life recommend this apartment, nor the Widener community. The staff tried to evict me after an occurrence that had nothing to do with me, and did everything in their power to remove me as a resident even after the hardships I was going through and they put me through. Save yourself the time, energy, and disappointment by not living here! And this goes as far as all the front office, maintenance and their security team that is not there for your best interest, and is only security for the building. They told me that my safety is not one of their concerns, nor will ever be one of their concerns. read more

I lived at Escape for less then a year, in a 1 bedroom unit. I have nothing but great things to say about my stay here. The pool was always great to have, never crowded. Electricity was cheap. The units are updated, and the space is used well. Easy parking, plenty of guest parking (we have two cars). Our floor was pretty quiet, never heard anyone. Definitely would recommend. read more

Erica, this message is for you, as I see that you have stated you are the community director in recent review posts, AND to all potential future residents considering making this place your home: There have been several recent (just days ago) break-ins, into APARTMENT HOMES. Into one apartment home I'm aware of, the criminals seemed to have stayed all night. They brought in other stolen items from other locations (medical bills and statements and such from others), left behind burned foil pieces (indicating possible drug use while inside), stolen and trashed several items while inside, and then were even so arrogant as to leave a note. Thank God this resident wasn't home the night they did this. THEN, they attempted another that morning, walking into a resident's home directly across the hall, heard noise inside, grabbed keys on the counter, and then immediately left. This resident was HOME, but in one of the back rooms and thought the entry was his roommate. Thank God they heard someone home and left immediately. These residents walked to the office to report this, and the office staff couldn't be bothered to take it as a serious matter, and instead sent a member of maintenance to the apartment on their behalf. What!?!? Then they told the resident to contact the police. Let me tell you something, Erica, the lack of action on the part of you and your team members is UNACCEPTABLE. These tenants are not the only two, as we have discovered this week, which means that these criminals have routine and consistent access and know that nothing is being done to stop them. They must also be around the property pretty consistently, and are quite likely watching the habits of your tenants. ARE YOU WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO COME FACE TO FACE WITH ONE OF THESE LIKELY DRUGGED UP AS*HOLES, BE INJURED AND POSSIBLY WORSE???? Do you think it isn't likely that they are carrying weapons of some sort!?!?!? DO SOMETHING!! TAKE ACTION!! FIX YOUR BROKEN DOORS! WORK WITH THE POLICE! ***YOU**** CALL THE POLICE, rather than redirecting it solely to the tenants. If YOU are the community Director, then it is YOUR COMMUNITY to protect, and your tenants. I love Escape! It is a beautiful, clean, and secure facility with great management. I am in love with my apartment. The area is very convenient and nearby restaurants, bars, shopping, grocery stores, gas, etc, and a quick hop on the highway. I will definitely be recommending this place to others. read more

Escape was managed by PBBell when I applied, but by the time I moved in, it was Weidner. The PBBell people were very responsive; Weidner was not. The building is great, didn't hear much neighbor noise. The traffic noise from outside is noticeable but oddly that's never bothered me too much. Good location, many things you can walk to, very central. But management doesn't respond to anything. Their ineptitude has been unmatched by any other apartment complex I've ever lived at. They ignored most emails, they didn't send out lease renewals until the very last minute, they lied, they hung up on me, and they did stupid things like removing access to the dumpsters at a *luxury* apartment (this was finally restored in late 2020). Yes, they take some money out of your deposit for some items, including what most apartments consider wear-and-tear, they charge taxes on those items, and they don't credit any interest to your deposit. With decent management, this could have been a 5-star review. But their lack of responsiveness to anything just became too exhausting. Some examples: * First lease renewal: they didn't inform me when my lease renewal terms changed *after* they sent out the letter. It was dumb luck that I went to the office about something else and found out about the change. * Second lease renewal: they didn't send it to me at all. 60-days-out I got an unpleasant phone call telling me that I needed to give them notice by the end of the day if I wanted to move out. I asked them how I was supposed to make that decision if they didn't even tell me what the price is for renewal. So I got the letter at 4:05 PM and had I moved out at that time, would have had to send notice by 6 PM. * Third lease renewal: I knew they would drag their feet on sending a lease renewal letter yet again, so I emailed them one month ahead of 60-days-out, asking for the letter. Took me 6-7 weeks, 8 emails, and a phone call to get the renewal letter and a couple basic questions answered about move-out procedure. * They were doing fire extinguisher inspections while I was on vacation. I asked them to leave it *inside* my door when they're done so it wouldn't be obvious I'm gone for 2 weeks. I personally spoke to two people in the office about this and emailed them, as that is how they wanted me to make sure everything gets confirmed. No response of course. A couple days later I called them and left a message asking them to respond to my email confirming they'd handle it. Got a one word reply "Received." Imagine my shock when I got home 2 weeks later and it was sitting outside my door. When I emailed them, specifically asking what I have to do to get better communication from the office, they gave a vacuous apology for not doing what they said they'd do, but didn't address their inability to respond to communication from customers. * One day I stepped out of the elevator when a couple entered it with their dog. Their dog viciously barked at me once or twice and immediately bit at my leg. Had I not jumped out of the way and the man holding the leash not pulled back, the dog probably would have sunk its teeth into my leg. The couple scurried away into the elevator. They didn't stop to apologize or ask me if I was okay. I reported this incident to the office, and they did call me about it the next day. They said they would look into it, but seemed skeptical I was giving them enough information to track the offenders down, and they asked me to find the couple again and take photos of them for better identification. I never saw the couple again, so maybe they did handle it themselves, but if so, they never followed up with me to let me know they took care of the problem. * One day I heard people above me starting to stomp on the floor all day long every day (including weekends), sometimes going from before 8 AM until 6 PM, as well as what sounded like dragging and throwing large items around, etc. I was hearing not just the footsteps but loud bangs all day long. This turned out to be roof maintenance. When I complained about it, they did evidently talk to the people because the sound from upstairs did quiet down a little bit. However, I asked them how long this was going to last. The office repeatedly refused to give me a rough timeline of how long the disturbance would last (e.g., days vs. weeks vs. months). It would really be nice to make literally any aspect of living here that requires communication with the office a smooth experience. It should not be difficult to respond to emails. When I was moving out, they asked me over the phone for a move-out reason. In addition to needing more space, I described their complete lack of responsiveness, and the person on the phone didn't react at all. No apologies, no request for further details. After a year or so of living here, they even stopped giving me the perfunctory "we're aware of the problem, and we're working on it." read more

DO NOT LIVE HERE!!! I was a resident here in the past year and it was the WORST apartment complex I have ever lived in. The security is awful (and the staff does not care at all). I had my car and apartment keys stolen at the gym from a homeless man who was SLEEPING IN THE GYM BATHROOM. The staff did not seem concerned at all, even after I filed a police report, and I felt very unsafe living here. Most doors to the outside are broken, the gates to the parking lot are always broken and as a result random homeless people walk into the building and steal packages quite frequently. The theft got so bad that the manager send out an email with a direct line to the police department because now people's cars are being broken into. My roommate and I lived in Escape for 8 months and were continually impressed with what the venue had to offer. There was a management change after a few months into living here and you could tell the new management had a strong focus on building a community. Events are hosted at least once a month, if not, more! This was really great for us since we were new to the area. The staff always made a point to make us feel welcome and were extremely personable. The apartment is situated within the city of Phoenix which was pretty new to my roommate and I since we come from smaller towns. But, we loved being so close to great restaurants and nightlife, as well as a large grocery store and shopping centers! The community is gated, has a really gorgeous pool and accent fountain that make it truly feel like an escape. The pool area and the rest of the buildings common areas are very well kept and always smell really good! We never had a problem with loud neighbors or disturbing pets. We loved the amenities such as the community fire pit, and several grilling stations and sofas situated on outdoor patios. These proved to us that the administration is genuinely committed to a comfortable and community based living style. Our room required maintenance attention twice throughout our time here and both times maintenance arrived to fix the problem same day. All around the maintenance staff, housekeeping staff, and front desk staff were extremely personable and very helpful. We couldn't have been luckier to live anywhere but here! read more

Escape is a fitting name for this apartment complex. You will not be able to escape the noise of 16th street or the residents partying until 2am on the weekends. The fact that these are "luxury apartments" is baffling. These have to be the worst windows I've ever encountered in any apartment or home I've lived in because I can hear everything going on outside. Sometimes i check to see if someone left the windows open because i can't fathom how a window can have absolutely no insulating factor whatsoever. We've gone so far as to try sleeping with ear plugs and even that didn't work. We have a 16 month old child who is frequently woken up by the noise as well which is super fun. This is the worst apartment complex I've ever lived in regarding noise, and I've lived next to freeways, highways, trains, airports, etc. We'd had enough after about a month and decided to break our lease and pay all the penalties just to be able to sleep again. (Currently writing this review after being up for two hours after residents blasting music from the clubhouse all night.) read more

Of all the places I have lived in this was the most disappointing. I moved in when it was under P.B. Bell. The management was cooperative, transparent and friendly. After sometime we were blindsided by a neW management team. They messed up billing multiple times over charging me for month to month when it was not the case. They did not take care of the permanent damage that was on my car from a leak that never was fixed in the parking garage. The elevator broke down almost once a month and at times it took an entire month for them to fix. When I renewed my lease, I told them I got a dog. They never renewed which was why they put me on month to month for months. Trying to recover my costs was a nightmare. At this time they did not add my dog to the agreement and they they came after me for "not telling them". When moving out the walk through went perfect, had the carpets cleaned, fixed any small holes in the walls. Was told everything was good besides some small charges. I was even told I would be could be compensated for getting the carpets cleaned. After I told Danielle Brown that I did it myself she had a smug look. When I received my move out statement they had not only taken all of my deposit but charged me extra to replace the carpet. Again, very disappointing to have such a good start to have to deal with a very poor management team. Chris was the only one who was friendly and helpful when I had to work with them. There are many more issues but these were the main points. I gave this two stars because it was a very nice place but for the price per month you would be better off at The Art on Highland next door who I have dealt with and have had friends who lived there. read more

When I first moved in here two years ago when P.B. Bell managed, the office staff was super friendly and I felt it was worth the price. Now that Escape is under new management, I can't say the same. The grounds used to be clean and office staff was friendly. I transferred from a one bedroom apartment to a two bedroom within the community a year ago. Upon inspection, the maintenance crew told me I would not be charged. The carpet was pulled up and frayed near a bedroom door and one wall had two large holes from a TV wall mount. Even still, I was told it was fine and that the carpet would have to be replaced anyway and touch ups are done before new residents move in. In the present, my lease just ended and an inspection had to be done by the new management crew. First off, Brenden was extremely rude to me while doing the inspection. He told me it was not normal wear and tear and would be at least 200 dollars to patch up the carpet. The "damages" in the second apartment are not as bad as the first. The only reason I did not fix the TV holes on wall and rug, is because I was not charged last time. Every time I tried to reason with Brandon he raised his voice at me and said there is no use talking to me I don't get it. I recently spoke to the manager Chris Carrol and it was as if I was speaking to Brendens twin. He even tried to charge me 55 for the touch up paint for the two holes on wall when Brenden said it would only be 20. He also stated that they are good friends outside of work and said that I shouldn't have made smart alec comments to Brenden. Overall, this has been a nightmare. I would not recommend these apartments to anyone and it is not worth the price. Not by a long shot. Beware the greedy management crew!!! They want to steal from residents now that everyone is moving out and no longer care to live there. read more

I am currently in the process of moving out after living in Escape for about one year. I was almost entirely happy with my time at Escape, minus a few little things which I will get to later. The Pros: fantastic location near many amazing restaurants and nightlife. Everything was very well-maintained - the gym, pool, hallways, parking garage, clubhouse, etc. The hallways still looked brand new with bright lights, were superbly air-conditioned, and had mostly stain free carpets. All of the equipment in the gym functioned well and was clean. The pool was fairly clean compared to other apartment complex pools and was often busy, but wasn't swarming with large, obnoxious parties. The apartments were fairly high-quality and resembled the standard, new mid-rise type buildings you see popping up all over Phoenix. The majority of the people at the complex were young professionals who took care of the amenities and wanted to keep the complex looking new and fresh. My master bathroom was beautiful and the walk-in shower was a nice touch. The Cons: the noise from both my next door and upstairs neighbors. I understand this is not something that the complex can control, but I always hope that a new, luxury complex would take measures to minimize noise through thicker walls and better constructed flooring. I would be woken up by my upstairs neighbor jumping off the bed and walking back and forth across the (carpeted) floor. It seemed to be normal walking, but I could hear what seemed like every footstep. I could also hear my next door neighbors' TV and conversations. From what I could tell, it seemed that both my next door and upstairs neighbors were just living their normal lives and weren't particularly noisy or rambunctious. Yet, I could still hear them all the time. Just be warned that this is a typical apartment complex where you can hear your neighbors - don't expect to not hear noise just because the complex is new and expensive. If you are sensitive to noise, I would definitely suggest living on top floor. The laminate on the cabinets above our stove was peeling off. The living room and second bedroom did not have any lights upon move in, but the office was willing to install these if you were willing to pay a fee (I don't understand why new complexes don't have ceiling lights in every room!). Also, there seemed to be minimal storage space (what ever happened to linen closets or even small closets on the balcony?!). Finally, probably once or twice a week I would smell marijuana when I stepped off the elevator. Fortunately this smell didn't travel too far, but I would just expect more from an expensive, luxury complex. I would have liked to stay living at Escape, but my roommate moved out and I couldn't afford the expensive rental rates for a one bedroom. Overall, the experience has been positive and I would recommend Escape to my friends or family, but I would be sure to inform them of the cons I listed above so they accurately knew what to expect. read more
