Went with a work group on a Thursday night. We booked all 3 rooms so we did not have to share the space. We ended up using only 2 of the rooms, as we had 19 people. At first I thought fewer people would be better in each room, but after not making it out, the staff was correct that 9 to 10 people is better. The puzzles were crafty, but the staff gave hints when the groups were stuck. The staff was very friendly and helpful, even though we arrived late. Everyone had a great time. My family and I have done several escape rooms. We did the King Tut room on Thursday Dec. 26th. We were so disappointed that most of the clues were math based. And one of the clues was under something that said do not lift!! The story wasn't fun...just seemed like when you solved one math problem it led you to a key that opened another math problem. We were told not to touch a couple of the props yet there was a clue in one of them! The staff was nice but when we asked for help they had no idea where we were. This place is SO MUCH FUN!!. I took my team here for a team building. There was only 4 of us, however it worked. We had a blast. Trying to work out the clues is a challenge, however when you get the clue its so fun to hear the team cheer. It really gets your mind going. Although we didn't escape and really thought we did with 18 seconds to go, only to find that what we thought was the escape was another box, but that did not detour us from having a great time. Did the King Tut room with 9 friends for my birthday. Very easy to book online! We had a fabulous time trying to solve the puzzle. Your group is locked in a room and you have an hour to escape. Clues are in the room and puzzles to solve to lead you to escape. Our group had a blast! The young men that run the show are super nice and helpful. Would totally reccomend! We did the King Tut room with a group of 8 people and had a blast! Everyone really enjoyed it. It was fun, made you think, and was full of excitement throughout the process! I highly recommend doing this! We're going to go back and try the other 2 rooms, and they apparently change the rooms every few months. One of the funnest things to do in Modesto right now! I've been to ESCAPE twice now, with one successful escape. In both cases though, the experience was very enjoyable. I've noticed that the experience, because it focuses people's attention and requires parallel group activities, naturally draws people out (if they are introverted) and together (if they are strangers). In each case I felt engaged with the participants in a way I never would have had I been at an alternate social event. The puzzles in all the rooms were challenging but accessible to everyone. There's a great feeling of accomplishment when someone discovers an overlooked object or shouts eureka after some hard thinking. However, what sets ESCAPE apart is the quality of the support. The proctor monitors the team via camera and provides occasional advice via speaker that keeps the group on track. In our last puzzle, they so adeptly meted out information (not too much or too little) that we had our solution with 15 seconds to spare. It was a thrill! read more

We had a great time escaping from the King Tut's room last night. There were six of us and four others who teamed up to solve the puzzles, find hidden objects and work together to escape in under an hour. The puzzles ranged from pretty easy to challenging. The number of puzzles and clues seemed just right to solve in under an hour. We could easily have failed had it not been for some lucky breaks and clever thinking from the other group. If any improvement could be made, it would be for the initial set up and perhaps some more ambiance. The six of us were four teen-aged girls and two middle-aged parents. Two twenty-something couples joined us. In the waiting area we signed some legalese and went over rules of what to do - and what not to do. There was a little attempt for our two groups to introduce each other...but no more than that. We were about to spend an hour solving puzzles with four strangers and it would have been good if the moderator had asked everyone's names and spent a minute or two helping us meet. Second, I would recommend attempting to make the room and initial set-up seem even more authentic. We were told we we are "treasure hunters" in "King Tut's tomb". Why not have the moderator get into character, costume? Lead us into the chamber and make more of an effect in "locking" us in. I know it's supposed to be about puzzles and solving in under an hour, but some creepiness using lighting, sound effects or music at the set up could have enhanced the experience. There were instructions at the outset about not looking for clues in light switches, electrical outlets, etc. And in the room, certain objects were labeled - do not move - do not touch, etc. That's understandable...these are parts of the room that are not part of the puzzle. If you want to go "all out" in designing the room, maybe you could try to remove or hide those features? Seeing a fluorescent light fixture on the ceiling of a King Tut's tomb sorta took me out of the experience. Same with an electrical outlet. My family and I purchased tickets for this place and we're looking forward to going. Unfortunately, a member of our group had a medical emergency. We called them the day before to cancel our reservation and were told that we could not receive a refund regardless of the circumstance. They said that it is policy and compared our medical emergency to when other groups show up late without calling ahead. We were not offered to reschedule either. I understand no refunds for no shows or last minute cancellations, but it is disappointing to see a small business, who is supposed to be a part of the community show so little compassion for a member of that same community. They then called the next day to ask if we were still coming after we made it clear that we could not come due to the medical emergency. I love to support small business but this is one I can not get behind. read more

The host Jordan was rude, when i walked up to the camera to ask for a hint about something he litterally just sat there and didnt reply for a good 5 min, and when i kept trying to reach him he replied with a very rude tone of voice saying i heard u the first time u dont have to keep calling! And didnt even give me a hint he just said go help ur teamates with what theyre working on. Like excuse me thats ur job. U have one thing to do and that is to host the game. And thats not a way to reply if u were busy u could have said sorry i just needed a moment. Very rude! I say this because i have been to other escape rooms and the hosts where VERYYYY polite and fun as soon as u pick up the phone and ask for a hint theyd be like ya sure within a second. The only reason we came to ESCAPE MODESTO is because its closer, but definitely wont repeat! Id rather drive an hr to further places. read more

It was my first escape room and I loved it. The others in my group had gone to one before and had not escaped in time. With their prior understanding and the enthusiastic host, we had such a good time. We did escape and it was so exciting to actually finally find the key to allow that to happen. We went to the mid difficult room and there was less than 20 % success so that made it even more thrilling. I highly recommend this experience for a group of competitive friends or family.
