Admittedly I was a bit apprehensive about my massage appointment here after reading the Yelp reviews. I bought a Groupon for $59. The promotional value had expired but I was still able to use the $59 towards a one-hour massage ($80). As others have pointed off, the "spa" part of the name is a misnomer. This place is in a cramped suite in a nondescript office building off Route 28 just past a pizza place. Not somewhere you would probably find unless you were looking for it. My massage was with Krystal, who was at the front when I came in and for some reason walking around barefoot. Not exactly the most professional or hygienic behavior. She led me into a small room after I completed some basic paperwork answering questions about my health. I'm not sure how she was able to move around the massage table because the room was so narrow. She applied a good amount of pressure and incorporated hot stones into the back massage which I enjoyed. However a lot of her motions felt repetitive colpred to other massage therapists I've seen. I don't know if that was intentional or perhaps she doesn't have a lot of experience with technique, but it didn't bother me that much. I did feel very good after the massage. Would I come here again? Probably not, because the location isn't the most convenient for me and the massage wasn't mindblowing by any means. Never again! Sad there's no 0 stars option. All this time later and I'm still upset at this experience. I didn't want to post right away in hopes that my perception would change. I went here on 7/18/2018 because I'd been to this location years ago and I'd had a not great experience so I figured I'd give them a 2nd chance. I bought a Groupon for a deep tissue massage and it was terrible. I Very clearly stated I'd recently moved so I had some back, shoulder and neck pain. I also had had an asthma attack earlier in the day which meant being on my back AT ALL was not what I wanted because it would cause me pain and severe discomfort. I even explained I was totally ok with limiting the massage to certain areas in order to limit my breathing pain. The masseuse didn't listen and ended up demanding I turn over onto my back (as I had mentioned I didn't want to do in the beginning) the response I got was don't worry take your time. I reiterated it would hurt me turning over and she said do you need help turning (like wtf I'd said no). I turned over reluctantly and angrily. Just as expected my breathing was extremely agitated. I couldn't relax and the masseuse ended my 60 min. paid massage after 45 min. She even went so far to give me her business card with "15 min. owed massage" written on the back, her signed name and the date she realized the mistake before I left in ending early which I told her was not necessary since I knew I'd never come back. I'd had deep tissue massages and various other before never once have I had a massage from someone who wouldn't listen to the customer and avoid an area or similar that someone very specifically mentions as an issue. I ended up going to urgent care right afterward for an asthma and heartburn treatment because being on my back as I told her I wanted to avoid made the pain I had much worse. The massage itself was one I would barely even qualify as a good deep tissue massage. If you think you have 0 choice as to where to go for a massage then go to this place but if you have a car please use it to drive someplace else and get a better massage. read more

I wouldn't recommend this "spa" based on my recent experience. The spa didn't call me back all week when I left a message trying to make an appt, the therapist didn't introduce herself when I got there, was 20 minutes late for my scheduled appt (with no explanation or apology), and forgot to do my right arm altogether. Also, if you're still doubtful of whether or not you should get a message here, check out the reviews that are "not recommended" (keep scrolling down) since those Yelper's also have valid input. This place is terrible. Do not waste your money. I wish I had read the "not currently recommended" reviews on here before I bought the groupon. There are a lot of similarities in the problems I had. First of all, it's almost impossible to get ahold of them. The phone doesn't even ring, it goes straight to a voicemail box. When i got to my appointment (10 min early) no one was at the front desk. It was 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged me. My massage started at 12:30 when it was supposed to start at 12pm. It ended at 1:20. I should have read the groupon better because it didn't specify the length of the massage, it just said "one hot stone massage, one scalp massage, and one foot reflexology." According to the website, a hot stone massage is 60 min and a foot reflexology is 30 min. It's not reported how long the scalp massage is, but whatever the case, it should have been longer than a 50 min massage. Also, the therapist I had, AnnMarie, kept talking through the whole massage! Not relaxing. The walls are very thin and I could hear a conversation from the next room. Additionally, the music she had playing was a few songs on repeat, and for a couple minutes the cd kept skipping. This was so awful. I went and had a 60 minute massage yesterday with Mildred. It was absolutely fantastic! She was so good, very nice and used perfect pressure. I was able to relax right away. I loved it! Upon my arrival at Escape, after we filled out the paper work, I was told because my daughter was under 18 years of age they wouldn't be able to service us and was told that it clearly stated that on their website. Yes it did, I did notice on their website that no service would be given to someone under the age of 18, unless a parent is present. I had just made a reservation for two separate massages, a teen facial and a customized facial for myself when I read that, so I called the receptionist back and told her my daughters age (15) and asked if we could do a tandem massage since I would be in the room and she said she didn't see why not. I booked the massage and moved on. Needless to say, my 15 year old who never gets pampered like this was looking forward to the "experience". What mom out there doesn't look forward to the day she and her daughter finally get to have a day of pampering together? So all this is built up in our head for over a week since we put off going to the Smokey Mountains... this year we decided to stay in town and do some fun stuff...only to be told that we couldn't be serviced! The gentleman behind the desk was offended that I was offended, told me it wasn't his fault and he wouldn't be talked to like I was talking to him (firm and telling him I couldn't believe this was happening).... I'm thinking you just told me "sorry, but we can't give you your "experience" and he's wondering why I was so frustrated, then he started this "I'm not going to be talked to like that" okay....whatever Mr. No Customer Service Manners....so I asked to speak to the manager, we spoke out side in the hall and she said it's their "policy" and it states it on their brochures and website. She asked me if I remembered who booked it, I'm thinking NO I just called and spoke to whomever it was that answered. With that said, she walks back to the reception area, looks at the computer and tells me that the girl who booked my reservation would've never told me that because she has been with them for a long time and knows the policy. So I was called a liar. I'm thinking why would I have called back to change my massages from singles to a tandem, it clearly stated a parent must be present. She then tells me they have other services they can perform. I stated why would I give you my business? She called me a liar and the "experience" I went in for was just shot to hell by her staff who apparently didn't know the policy that well or just made a bad call. Needless to say I didn't want my facials to be done there because I was so upset (no relaxation going to happen staying there!) with the way they handled themselves. With all this said, it's been 3 days since this happened, I've cooled off, but I believe that Escape is use to servicing people all day, proabley a lot of repeat business, locals, so they stay booked, lots of happy people coming in and out of there, at least 95% of the time they are seeing happy people but the problem is that when an issue comes up the staff has no experience, or empathy when it comes to a customer not being happy. My school of thought, I think it's dated nowadays, is you NEVER, EVER tell a customer that their employee would never make an error because they know policy....what the crap? Sure people make mistakes, a GOOD customer service person would say, "I'm so sorry that this happened to you, maybe we can find another spa (yes a competitor) who can service you. The front desk & the kind of manager at Escape is what we are experiencing in society today. Give me the money and I'll treat you well. Not I'm sorry we couldn't help you, there must have been a misunderstanding and I'd like to make it right. The other thing the manager told me was that they don't give persons under the age of 18 massages for insurance reasons, and that's why it's against policy....well thats understandable if a 15 year is having an individual massage but a tandem? Really. An parent is in the room? I guess I shouldn't care if they don't want certain business but where does common sense come into play here? They do a "good enough" business without giving an experience to potential and current clients with growing girls who might patron their business later in their life. Honestly, after we left it took me a few minutes to regain my thoughts, after all I didn't want to ruin what was left of our day, I called "A Moments Peace" in Franklin and they got us both in there within the hour. Tandem, was no problem at all!! Final thought: I'm not mad we didn't get the massage, I'm mad at how they handled it. Well, I guess I am mad at their policy, and they need to STATE IT MORE CLEARLY, or leave off the party where it say's unless a parent accompanies, cause that's what it says. It's goofy! read more

Christine did such an excellent job at explaining everything to me, step by step. She reviewed my skin tone, the equipment, whats important about skin care and whats a load of jargon. Kelly is an amazing esthetician! I had purchased my Groupon despite the bad reviews on here because every spa deserves a chance, and was so pleasantly surprised at the wonderful service I received. A good facial is hard to come by these days, and having someone has knowledgeable as she is about skin is truly a pleasure. She spent time with me even though I was her last appointment of the evening, never felt rushed she really took her time. She was incredibly sweet and so warm to talk with me after. Not one to leave bad reviews but I still can't get over my experience with this place about a month ago. I'm shocked this place is still in business to be honest. I booked an appt with Kyrstal who I heard was excellent,canceled on me an hour before my appt due to medical issue (fine- i understand things happen, at the end of the day it's just a massage) but being a salon owner myself I can't imagine canceling on a client an hour before their appointment (via text mind you) without saying the word SORRY once. Called the Spa, called her no answer, stopped by on my way home, no one was there. It wasn't until 10 pm (10 hours after my scheduled appt) she reached out in an unprofessional manner via text. The customer service and empathy was non existent. If she was going through something medical wise, it should have been up to the owner to get in contact with me not the massage therapist. The owner did call the next day to smooth things over and was nice about it,but basically deflected the situation by saying "they all have their own schedules that they manage themselves". What's the point of being an owner if you don't have control of your staff? She should have had Krystals back during that time regardless! Overall, TERRIBLE experience and I didn't even step in the door. I'll save my money for a more worthy business. read more

Used a groupon here for facial, reflexology and scalp massage. The girl spent the entire time telling me how I shouldn't buy groupons to do it directly through her next time. I was also informed of how much this service was worth (like $400!) that I was getting. The facial was fine, but she rubbed my feet and scalp for 5 minutes each (my kids can do better) no reflexology at all. Total disappointment. Would not recommend at all. 1 star. read more

I hate to give out 1 star reviews, but unfortunately I have to in this case. I bought a Groupon for a hot stone massage with scalp massage and the website allows you to schedule online. There is a Groupon option that even says what you are getting when you schedule. It is definitely not your typical 'spa' atmosphere when you walk in, it's pretty much in an old office building with tile floors. The receptionist told me when I checked in that they weren't aware that I was a hot stone massage and the stones weren't heated and I should've called. I never even got a confirmation call and I could've confirmed if they can't rely on their online scheduler. Then she ran out the door leaving me to wait for the masseuse. The massage room was cold and unwelcoming. The masseuse told me to undress and wait while the stones heated up but not to worry, she 'wouldn't make me wait too long'. They also only do your backside and no arms. Ok? The technique was lacking; I felt like I was just there getting rubbed with oil. Overall there are a lot of improvements to be made and I will not be returning. I also woke up with two bruises on my leg and a blister on the bottom of my foot from the hot stone. I would look elsewhere if you're looking for a relaxing massage or true 'spa' experience. read more

I tried this place the first time with a Groupon. From now on I will read reviews before purchasing. I was greeted by the therapist who brought me into a very cramped room. I had to turn sideways to move over to the bed to lay on. It was suppose to be a facial with foot reflexology. I think she forgot about the feet until the last minute. The facial was more of a face wash and hot towel steam. It definitely was not a full hour. I was fine with that because the place creeped me out. When I came out the woman was sitting at the computer talking to her friend. I waited to tip her, but she disregarded me and I felt a little awkward. I had to interrupt and asked what the facial would have been without the Groupon so I could tip her appropriately. She said $135 (which upon further inquiries I found out that was a lie, it was an $80 service). I had 2 20's and asked for $15 back. She said that they do not keep cash in house and sent me up the hall to the hair salon for change. The salon was not willing to give me change, which I didn't blame them. I went back to let the therapist to let her know there was no change available. She found $7 in her purse and offered me that. I am furious that this person took advantage of me. She should have graciously taken $20 since that was MORE than 20% of the actual price. I have attempted to contact the owner or manager but they have not gotten back to me. I do not recommend this place to anyone. The immorality lack of professionalism is shocking!! Stay away! The Groupon is not worth it!!!!! read more

I actually had written this review a couple of weeks. I just saw that yelp listed my review under the "not recommended" section. If you look at the 15 "not recommended" review did not count toward the rating, it all gave 1 star. With that in mind, what does that say about this spa? I would not recommend this place to anyone. I bought 2 groupon vouchers from groupon for their massage. I went here over this weekend using my groupon. Annmarie (I think she is the owner or co-owner) told me that since I wasn't a new customer, I should not be using the groupon, but the "owner" will "let it slip" this time. Ok, the groupon's fine print did not say anything about "new customers only" and now they are changing the rules outside of Groupon? Secondly, it was suppose to be a 60 minute massage, appointment was at 11:15am, she ended it at noon. So she only gave me a 45 minute massage. I was not aware of this until she ended the massage and left the room. After I got dressed, I went to her at the front desk and said "I thought it was suppose to end at 12:15pm?" She responded with a "Yeah." That's it, no apologies, end of conversation. She was trying to shoo me out and end the conversation because there were 2 other customers in the waiting area where they could clearly hear us and she didn't want to give them a bad impression. I called groupon after and groupon representative confirmed that it did not have "new customers only" on the restrictions, and groupon customer service was very kind to give me partial credit for that bad experience and bad service and allowed me to canceled my 2nd voucher. In summary, this place is very unprofessional and cheat their customers; to end the massage at 45 minutes when customer paid for a 60 minute massage? Unheard of and unprofessional. read more

I had very bad experience here. I bought a groupon coupon there and I wanted to use. I booked an appointment. Later I had to reschedule my appointment. I called them two times and left a note to their voice mail box. They called me Friday 24th in the morning while I was driving and left a message and said that I could reschedule in February 22nd.I called back to them when I was available. Its owner answered me I told her that had an appointment on 25th of January but I need to reschedule. She looked at the calender and said to me that I didn't have any appointment . Because of my call , they cancel my appointment and they didn't reschedule again. I said to her someone called me and left message about rescheduling my appointment, she denied. Then I said to her I have voice mail and If she wants I could listen this voice mail to her. Actually the owner of this spa was very rude, she didn't help me reschedule my appointment. She behaved very rudely and said to call groupon and cancel my coupon and shut the phone on my face. So I called groupon and I cancelled my coupon. I purchased a living social deal for a facial last year. I was really disappointed with this place. While I sat in the very small waiting area the owner was on the phone having an argument with an employee. After that she sat and talked about the girl for a while. She was a very negative and seemingly rude and immature person. I tried to ignore but it was impossible and ruined my experience. I don't understand how anyone running a business especially if you are calling it Escape Day Spa would act this way with a new customer sitting 3 feet away I was so uncomfortable and annoyed by the time I was called in that I really could not enjoy my experience. The facial was very odd. The woman was nice but kept talking and asking me if I knew people because she was from the same city as me. It was weird and I could not relax at all. Also the stuff she was doing to my face just felt strange. I have had facials before but this was not for me. I will admit I felt my skin looked nice after but I never returned. This business needs to really look at their business plan and policies. In a spa customer service and atmosphere is really important. I don't think this owner is in the right business. Also there was a loud Zumba class going on right next to us which also did not allow for any type of a calm relaxing vibe. This place is not for me and I would not recommend. Very disappointing. Went here for my first facial last week, using a Living Social deal for facial, microdermabrasion, and a scalp massage. I have very fair skin and was nervous about how my skin would react, but I was pleasantly surprised by the results and left with the intention of more facials in my future! Christine was great discussing my skin type and skin regimen, offering helpful advice. While the service was perfectly fine, I had to knock the grade down a bit for atmosphere... the spa is in an office building, which I wouldn't have cared about, except that while I was trying to relax and enjoy, I could hear people walking around and talking in the hallways of the building. Also the room was so small that every time the esthetician moved to grab something, I could either feel her movement or was brought out of relaxation mode by the sounds of drawers opening so close to me. It wasn't her fault at all, it's just a small space. Everything did appear to be very clean, sanitary, and up to date so no complaints there. For what I paid, I was happy with the service, but I might be willing to pay a little more for a more spa-like atmosphere in the future. read more

I got there on time and was not greeted until 15 minutes into sitting there. First off, this is a hole in the wall type studio so you know I was probably the only customer for the day. But here I am on time and no one comes out, so I grabbed the form and started filling it out. Eventually this rude woman comes out and the only thing she says to me is I'll be seen shortly.... Seriously? Almost a half hour since I got there has gone by and no one has come back out. I should have been half way done with my massage not sitting there still waiting. So not only do I walk out because now if I stay I would be late to pick up my kids. After walking out they never called to see what happened. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE YOU WILL EVER ENCOUNTER. I do not remember the name of the esthetician who did my facial but I really wish I did to write this review. Within the first 15 minutes of my facial, my esthetician brought up that microdermabrasion can help with breakouts, after I politely said, no, thank you. She brought it up several more times and when I asked how much she said an additional 50 with a smile on her face. Mind you that my skin is not in terrible condition, I am in my mid 20s and actually been complimented on my skin in the past. It was obvious she was trying to get an extra few dollars out of me. Facial was average at best. When she asked what kind of products I use, I told her I just use over the counter stuff and she made a face but did not say anything. I felt that she treated me differently because I used a groupon. When I tipped her, she did not say thank you and made another face. I have been to plenty of spas before and I never left feeling irritated leaving. read more
