She hired them for packing, moving, and storage, and they truly delivered five-star service in every area. Anthony, Justin, and Gene arrived early to carefully pack her belongings, including heavy items, fragile pieces, and a large-screen TV. Everything was expertly packed, well-labeled, and protected. Two days later, Anthony, Justin, and Jay efficiently loaded the truck, taking great care with her floors and belongings while moving most of the house down two flights of stairs--including the washer and dryer. After a week in storage, Ramon, Brian, and Byron delivered everything to her new home. They were professional, friendly, protected her freshly cleaned floors, placed and unwrapped furniture exactly where she wanted it, and even removed all packing materials before leaving. Moving is a daunting adventure. But with the help and expertise of Ernie's Van & Storage. With their office staff and extremely efficient movers our move was incredibly executed! The quality of the workmanship was outstanding. Matt and Michael handled all my calls and questions about packing and provided me with special paper and boxes with a 20% discount!. Gene and the other movers greeted me the 1st day they came to start packing saying, "how's your day going, we're here to make it easy for you, don't worry about a thing!" The second day of packing was made so much easier when the guys just packed up anything I couldn't handle, like our very special, art work, large garden pots, along with my very expensive sewing machines and rosewood furniture. On Monday Roman drove our cargo down from Cool CA, to Escondido, CA. all in one day. He greeted me the next morning, with a big smile and, said, "lets get going!" The only thing broken was something "I" packed! The value and cost of moving with Ernie's is incomparable to other services I considered. I am so grateful for their contribution to the next chapter of our lives. I agree with "Angela T." -- run from this company! Ernie's quoted us $21,000 to move us to the east coast. The actual, final amount we owed the movers was over $32,000 -- a galactic underestimation. Worse, when the overage became apparent after the shipment got weighed, Ernie's estimator lied through his teeth, claiming that nothing in our RV garage was supposed to be moved, even though he listed every item from it in the Bill Of Lading! I'm guessing their game is to intentionally low-ball out-of-state moves to land the contract, then screw you with the actual bill once you're out-of-state -- which you can't refuse to pay, since the mover holds your goods hostage. Unscrupulous and deceitful. Truly a despicable business. These guys should be in prison. You have been warned. read more

You will be charged extra fees, (plan on it) you will be lied to, regarding the reasons for the extra charge, and you wont be informed of the extra fees, until all your possessions are loaded and gone.......if you refuse the fee....your possessions go into storage for an other fee! I ended up with an other person's nice set of golf clubs.....but can't get the truck driver to respond for a return! (Nice set, monogrammed bag) My yard was rutted up, by the truck. They handled our furniture and irreplaceable family antiques with care and grace. They even set up the bed, as well as the various bedroom furniture exactly how it had been arranged in our old place. Recently moved from Lincoln, CA to Corvallis, OR. The first two days of packing went well although under staffed. A call for more workers was ignored. Third day when it was obvious they would not complete the packing & loading the truck more help was sent. Unfortunately boxes were poorly packed & loaded on the van. Many items were left in the garage that should have been on the truck. Several items were not wrapped but tossed in the truck so were damaged enroute. Furniture wasn't packed properly resulting in damage. What I was told would happen did not. Perhaps a lack of training. Many items have been damaged. I'm about half way unpacking boxes so there may be more items damaged. My issue is with the local company, not the driver or the men that unloaded the truck. I did use this company 16 months ago & those items were packed properly. It was very expensive so don't want somebody else to have the same disappointing experience I had. My parents had to move after selling their house in Truckee. Due to a short timeframe on close of escrow and the removal of buyer's contingencies (contingencies were removed about two and a half weeks before close of escrow), Ernie's came to my Dad's aid big time by being able to come up and do an estimate and then provide him with a span of days to schedule the move in less than two weeks. Moreover, they were able to change the day at last minute notice due to the buyer's agent wanting to do a walk-through in an empty house exactly one day before closing (which had been set as the moving day). Let's just say moving isn't fun or easy and it's usually a nightmare. I expected more of the same from past experiences. Fortunately, Ernie's changed that dynamic with their approach, and I and my family are so grateful. It's not an understatement to say that Ernie's came through, and that with over seven moves he and my mom have undertaken in their lifetimes, my Dad said that Ernie's provided the best move, hands down. I was not there for the move from Truckee, but I was present for the unloading aspect at my folks' landing place. I have never been so impressed with such a hard-working crew of guys. Their care and expertise with packing, unloading, and wrapping heavy items, and arranging items in a storage area, was truly AMAZING. It was, to be honest, like a work of art! John, the chief moving man, has years of experience and actually did the estimate in Truckee as well as organizing the unloading at destination. I kid you not, the estimate was within 100 pounds. Moreover, he is basically a trucking genius who adeptly maneuvered a huge moving truck in the mountains ( having to deal with a power line for the neighborhood that could have led to lights out for all) and then a tight, congested urban neighborhood along with a huge tree that had to be trimmed on-site by the crew to allow the truck in the driveway from unloading. Ain't nothing gonna stop this crew. The team works flawlessly, going nonstop and taking care and attention with every item they packed and unloaded. My Dad said they had a special guy come in just for our family's heirloom china collections, with each item painstakingly hand-wrapped. I had horrible memories of moves from a kid onward- lost items, furniture splayed like toothpicks, movers hiding damaged items, fake estimates on poundage to get you to sign the contract, holding the packed van hostage with new fees and refusing to unload- the moving world is rife with underhanded characters and con-men trying to separate you from your hard-earned cash. Ernie's, by contrast, was upfront, professional, hard-working, honest, and accurate. I can't recommend this company more. Do not use Ernie's Van & Storage if you want to work with professionals. I have moved five times in the past 10 years and this was by far the worst service I have ever experienced. The movers were rude, argumentative, and disrespectful to both me and my husband. Prior to our move, I spoke with the moving coordinator about covid protocol. He said it was up to the customer if the moving team would be required to wear masks indoors. I clearly stated we wanted everyone, including my husband and I, to wear masks indoors. Michael said he would notify the team. He did not. So each day (3 total) the employees showed up not expecting to wear masks and argued with us. When we were moving into our new house, they played loud music all day and would not turn it down to a reasonable level. They also left cigarette butts all over the street. The employees argued with each other all day too. Additionally, we were never offered insurance or given the opportunity to list any high-value items. In fact, when the document was given to us at the end of the move, someone other than my husband or me, had written "NONE" on the high-value form. Worst movers ever. Zero stars. read more

I was seriously disappointed with my move from Grass Valley to Nevada City in October 2017. The movers left one large, heavy box in the garage at the old location. They did not follow instructions (which were stuck on various items) telling where to put them. They claimed they could not drive the truck up the driveway at the delivery location, and wasted hours transporting items up, one at a time, in a small pickup truck. Beware of Ernie's Moving and Storage - Grass Valley Ca, Reno NV The day of pick up Ernie's Moving sent their people out to pick up my goods to move it two their warehouse. This was after I was assured at signing that they would use their own driver and truck to handle my goods and get them there on the requested delivery date. (Five truck loads that day) Goods were moved to the warehouse off loaded to be loaded on a different truck two days later. Double and triple handling. This caused broken, bent and missing wheels, torn seats, broken cabinet bases, two destroyed book cases, damaged furniture ( 15 items) and a missing key safe. (10 sets of car keys & remotes). Also that day the goods recorder person was given an old Ipad to record my goods on a new program first time seeing it with no training. Some items did not get recorded, what the program did not provide as an description they guessed on what category it could go in. Most of the, time not even close. At the end I was told to sign the electronic list with no way to review, since the operator could not get the program to do what he wanted it to do. He had to make multiple calls for help. He could not get the list to email to me but, promised me I would get it that night day of signing. Had to call next week to get sent to me. It was very hard to read mostly numbers no real descriptions. They got to the house to unload the goods two days after discussed and then realized that they did not want to back down the driveway to unload and considered it to far to push items to the house. They wanted $1950.00 right then or they would not unload it and take it to storage where I would pay storage fees until I paid the money. Ernie's attitude from their grass valley office was you need us since we have your money, we do not need you. I refused and told them to unload it on the driveway and I would move it. I got a call back from them stating that I could not make a clam if I moved the goods. Even through the driver was making notes of the damaged items while it was coming off the truck. My friends and I helped the delivery team move the goods. Thanks to the driver being an asset to Atlas Van lines he made the decision to move the goods into the house and complete the contract. I made a call about the missing safe the next day and have not heard back from them. No effort from them to issue insurance form or offer any kind of help on the goods they damaged. Ernie's agency hurts the reputation of all the other Atlas Moving Agencies that provide real customer service and make the moving experience a positive experience. The reason I went with Ernie's in the first place was because the estimator was so nice However, it ended up being the worst moving experience I have ever had. We had a three bedroom house, everything was boxed up except the furniture and it took them 12 hours to load, we actually nick named them The Sloth Moving Co. After 9 1/2 hours I politely asked them to pick up the pace, they became angry and I am asuming, that is why I had so much damage to my furniture and belongings. When I called the estimator to complain, I was told that they were unstaffed and he would call the GM and let him know how dissatisfied we were with the company. I never heard another word back! They did not box all of my household goods which I paid them to, they mixed my items with another move, damaged most of my furniture and lost several of my boxes during the move. They also charged me above the estimate they provided. Also, despite $10,000 in damage they caused, their Claims team is trying to say they are not responsible for lost boxes and are only offering $400 for my trouble. Btw, Atlas left me with boxes and shelves from someone's else's move when they delivered my things, and after 3 months have yet to get these items to the right owners. I told the company when I hired them that the piano was over 900 lbs. and would need experienced movers for this job. We have been involved in the music industry for several decades and run a recording studio in Tennessee. When they showed up the person in charge said he has never seen a piano that large, they also had no idea about how to move a piano that size and were not familiar with the industry standard equipment we had on hand for the job. We all agreed that they would not be best suited to moved the piano. They said I would not be charged anything for the visit. I was later that I noticed the charge on my charge card. THE MOST DISHONEST BUSINESS EVER! I am a small business person in the same local area as Ernies. In my opinion, customers are to be treated with respect and every effort should be made to address complaints in a cordial, mutually cooperative way. My experience with Ernies, was absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced in 23 years of being in business for myself. Unfortunately, I wasnt savvy enough to realize I was dealing with sharks. They state on their website "At Ernie's Van & Storage we go to great lengths to keep our customers happy. If something isn't right we want to know, so we can work to fix it." What a load of Bull! I had numerous problems with them and their response was "We dont believe there were any problems" I went to their office to have the problems addressed, they refused to meet with me, later called the police and reported me for theft and fraud. When I tried to discuss with them the numerous overcharges on the bill they absolutely refused to address them, meet with me or acknowledge reality. Then, regardless of my good faith efforts, repeatedly asking to meet to discuss the discrepencies, they sued me. . I feel that they had substantially overcharged for what I would consider extremely poor service. Unfortunately, it was their word against mine as I was at my move by myself most of the day, and their group of excons that work for them showed up in court and lied through their teeth. They carry a lot of weight in this small town and I guess it paid off, since they won. Just as they have every other time they have sued their customers. I had a witness, someone who bought a refridgerator from me, that they took a 20 minute break after only being at my home for one hour that was not deducted from the total bill (in the court records). Their worker also testified that the second truck they billed me the entire day for only had one large item in it, even though in the letters to me they stated it was completely full (in the court records)And, this is in direct violation of state law, which the judge completely ignored. I had a witness who had helped me move 90% of my belongings the day before Ernies arrived, yet I was still billed 60% of their original estimate, regardless of the fact that I had contacted them several days previous to the move requesting an new estimate (also in the court records). I have a neck injury and cannot lift my arms above my shoulders. I repeatedly asked them to accomodate this with very specific requests as to how things were stacked in the rooms. Instead they just ignored it and did whatever the hell they wanted. They thrashed, scratched or dented just about every piece of furniture. These things, among many others did not matter, the judge still found in their favor. After all, this is Nevada County, and Im one small person with a disability and very limited resource, they are backed by a large corporation and have been here forever. The entire case though is available as a public record, Ernies Van & Storage VS Dawn McGrath, small claims in Nevada County California. I would be happy to supply anyone with all the info, you would be shocked. I recommend that you review it for yourself. I do not feel the judges decision was either fair or just, they are probably buddies. But you as a consumer could see it all and make your own decision before ending up in the situation I did. I feel I was slighted and want to protect others from having something similar happen to them. I have the right to tell my storybut Ernies has tried to stop me by threatening further lawsuits. , but I will not shut up. I will do every thing in my power to have others know just how ruthless and what a rip off they are. I feel that most people would not want to do business with someone who handles customer complaints by reporting them to the police, after the customer has come into the office in good faith wanting to resolve the disagreement and with litigation when the client shows any effort at all to resolve the problem amicably . My efforts were completely disregarded in favor of litigation. But to make it even worse, Ernies leaned every single one of my bank accounts for the judgement amount, not just for the total owed but for 4 times the amount... TWO WEEKS BEFORE CHRISTMAS. Ask yourself, what kind of person does that? That is not just business, its vicious. Watch your back and have plenty of witnesses around during your move if you do business with them. NO CUSTOMER SHOULD EVER BE TREATED THIS BAD. I would never recommend this company to anyone. I recently hired Ernie's Van and Storage to move our business office to our new location. This is the second time I have used Ernie's and highly recomment their services. When I phoned them for an estimate, John - their estimator, came out to my office immediately and provided an accurate and very reasonable quote. We set up the move date and John and his staff phoned several times to confirm that we were on track for the move. On our scheduled move day we experienced a huge snow storm. John and I spoke early in the morning and determined it was not safe to transport our belongings in this weather. He assured me that he could reschedule our move to the next "safe" day. As promised, our move occured the following Monday. The crew showed up at exactly the time scheduled. They were friendly, professional, and went straight to work. They handled our furniture, electronics, and equipment with care and packed things up appropriately. They even laid out blankets on our new carpet to protect from dirt and moisture. Our move was completed in a little less time than estimated as the crew never stopped moving. Kudos to Ernie's once again for providing a great service to our office. We hired Ernie's to pack and store about 2/3'rds of our home in Granite Bay, CA and move the other 1/3'rd to our Condo in Boston. Well when we received the Boston shipment we were missing a 'few' boxes as well as had several items broken. The subsequent move for our remaining items to Cape Cod approximately a year later proved even more disastrous.... Again several items were broken, scratched, and/or damaged. Unboxing was a crap shoot as to wether items would be properly wrapped or just stuffed in... we had a light bulb wrapped in about 3 sheets of paper while other glass, porcelain and sensitive items were barely wrapped... the initial claim from Ernie's was we treat your items with respect and care!!!! Like our own however, after two moves we are second guessing how they treat their own things. We would not recommend Ernie's! In fact we went through a lot of painstaking time/effort to resolve with Atlas movers to reclaim some of our losses as a result of the poor packing/storing Ernie's provided. Unfortunately they did not reimburse for items that packed and boxed by Ernie's... If you must use Ernie's, get insurance and watch his 'professional' ? packers carefully... So very disappointed with our experience with Ernies Moving / Atlas Van Lines. We contracted with them to move a nonprofit business and household. They charged us over $56,000 for 2 trucks to Oklahoma and made us pay in full before they would start unloading. This was supposed to be a full service pack with all the boxes labeled. The first truck arrived on time and about half of the boxes had no label on them and things were packed really poorly. We had boxes that were ripped apart and soaked because they had packed bottles of wine with hardly any paper. After we paid in full they informed us that the second truck was delayed with no eta. Here we are over a week later and still no word on when the second truck will be here. They tell us they don't have the resources to make the delivery at this time even though our contract specified delivery over a week ago. Anyone who calls a moving company saying they have need to move vintage Niagra beds upstairs should rightfully be hung up on. Cast iron motors that raise the foot and head? A vibrator motor too? Yup. This was my situation. Moving Mom into my house was daunting but possible. I eat Spinach but seriously, these beds wouldn't move. It took four of us to get them on the moving truck with a piano dolly and a ramp. I was advised to sell them and buy her a new bed. Research proved that was going to cost money. My girlfriend recommended Ernie's. With rain in the forecast, I called them. I was told they had a two hour minimum. My imagination went wild. I had some seriously heavy things I had been putting off moving around and this was my opportunity. Alfonzo and Rick showed up with brute strength and accomplished the impossible. Highly recommended. Matt was professional and knowledgable on the front end. Nadia handled all logistics at the office in the same way. Moving is stressful, for sure. But Ernie's relieves some of that by being kind, professional and thorough all the way through. The crew chief, Kevin Reese was above and beyond fantastic. From pickup to delivery, and everything in between, he was a total pro. We couldn't ask for better. In fact, we've already recommended Ernie's for my parent's upcoming move, based primarily on Kevin's great attitude, work ethic and overall performance. My parent's will specifically be requesting Kevin and Christy for the job. My mum recently hired Ernie's Van & Storage to help her move. They went all the way to Folsom and helped my mum move her things to a storage unit in the next town over, El Dorado Hills. My mum was in a pinch and hired these guys fairly last minute. They had no problem working on memorial day and no problem traveling so far from Grass Valley. My mum and I had been working like dogs, packing her place up, and moving what we could of the misc. small stuff to storage. And then, right on time, Richy shows up. I swear, angels sang. These guys had such great energy; they were so friendly! They were fast, yet careful, and seemed to really know their stuff when it comes to efficient and safe moving. Even when my mum changed her mind about the dining room table and chairs being packed into the truck, the guys were more than willing to remove the peices they had already packed. When we arrived at my mum's storage, they even helped my mum move some things we had already packed into storage from it's unit to the other one. They offered to help my mum even more, but she was already so impressed with them and felt they had done more than enough. The guys seemed like real genuine and I am so pleased and appreciative of them. My mum said it was well worth the cost, which actually wasn't bad for the distance they travelled and the amount they did for us. I deffinately recommend these guys to anyone who's looking for movers. My mum does too. :) read more

No stars as Atlas delayed our shipment 3 weeks after it was due. Damaged our furniture and lost an entire box of clothing worth $1000+ and their "good faith" offer was $126. Joke. Do not use them. read more

My 90 year old mother had to relocate from an independent living facility to a group home after she broke her hip. After giving away her dining table, 6 chairs, her hutch and China cabinet, as well as her bed, I only had a 3 unit entertainment center, a small TV, a settee and chair as well as a few other small items left to move. I called Ernie's Van & Storage stating it would be a small job to move the items from Auburn to a POD 16 miles away. Two young men arrived at 7:45, which I thought was perfect as the seniors were at breakfast until 9:30 and would not be using the elevator. By 9:30 they had only a few items left to move, so I left the apartment and drove to my home. At 11:30 I called the office to inquire of their whereabouts. I was told they had gone to lunch. Imagine my surprise when I received a bill for $1,138.18. When I inquired why, I was told the trip from Bell Road and Hiway 49 to Loomis took 45 minutes. Not true, it's a 20 minute drive. I was also told the men only took a 15 minute break. I was not even offered a senior discount! It's too bad Two Men and a Truck were not available when I needed them, as they did a FANTASTIC job when I moved mom from her 2200 sq foot house to the 600 square foot studio apartment. I would not use this company again, especially if you are a senior on a fixed income. read more

Ernie's Van & Storage in Grass Valley came very highly recommend to me by a number of my friends. We have lots of expensive furniture, including antiques and very large pieces of art work that had to be moved. These guys that were sent to my home were just so accommodating to my every need. We have white carpets and travertine floors. The guys had put booties on their shoes before stepping into our house. Some of the guys left their socks as they carried the boxes around the house. I was so happy that I didn't have to tell them every time to remove their shoes. After everything was moved in, they set up all of my furniture, including my baby grand piano without a nick! I was just so impressed by their demeanor, and how careful they were with our beautiful pieces of furniture. They were all great guys, their appearance was very neat, and they all worked so well together. I would definitely hire Ernie's again for any of our moves, my husband and I were extremely happy with them... Diane F. read more
