I couldn't recommend Ernie's transmission shop enough the price is the best in town and the work is as good as you will get anywhere. The transmission solenoid on my Mustang went bad and Ernies transmission was the only reasonable price within a hundred-mile radius. If you have any problems with your transmission you definitely need to call Ernie. read more

Not sure if this location is still "American Transmission" or "Ernie's transmission shop" but these so called mechanics are literally out here scamming people. They took $2400 from me and didn't fix a damn thing on my vehicle. They will go days even weeks without any type of communication. Then charge a ridiculous price for you to go and buy your own car parts just to pay for the "service labor" that they never even fix. I just want to leave a review to warn other people out there in Merced. I understand some people need their car fixed asap in some situations but trust me there are a lot better organized, reliable, certified mechanics out there! read more

They still have my vehicle won't tell me where they have it or when it will be done gave 2300 and told it would be done in no longer then a week then kept giving me a later date now to the point to where they hang up when I call ... they once told me they will give my car back with out a refund or work done to now they won't do anything they are thieves read more

Friendly honest people and service!! Thank you so much for all you did for me! I will definitely return in the future and spread the word about your professionalism! read more

Share review Embed review Write an update Edit review 8/6/2020Updated review I live in Merced after researching for and honest transmission place I found this place to have the best reviews overall, I have a 9 year old car with almost 124k, after recently changing the transmission fluids with OEM parts my car wouldn't shift from first gear correctly, So after calling several trans shops in Merced I decided to go with Ernie's Transmission Shop, when I first called Ernie himself answered and explain vehicle wasn't shifting correctly he said junk it, its a foreign car and usually don't work on those but call me next (take all this into consideration that I am thinking man be hide the phone has 30 year's experience in tranny's) he told me $85 to diagnostic just check it out took in on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday went by no call from Ernie, On Monday I call Ernie didn't answer because he was calling me to tell me it was 2 quarts low and that each quarts was $30 dollar's each but that wasn't it and that he needed to take apart the trans axles to see if he could find why it wasn't shifting while long story short this writing articles in the news paper about how to maintain your vehicle and put less wear and tear so you would have bring in to him because he may be good at fixing old models from 2000 and down but as for imports don't waste your time this man is a good talker but doesn't put he's money were is mouth is least on newer cars's he ended up charging me $200 for 5 days wasted possibly storage fee would of sounded more legit then this service, so please be really sure and make him sign he'll fix your car if not he'll end up charging storage fee and nothing will be done to your car, Oh and Ernie write articles on what you've fixed not raced when you were 13 year's old read more

Ernie is full of crap!!! I called him and told him about what my truck was doing, gave him the make and model and he said to bring it in. I took the truck in and he said that wasn't the truck I told him it was. It's my truck I know the make and model. I was like ok maybe it was just a miscommunication. He convinced me he could fix it in three days and he would call me the next day to tell me what the problem was. Two days went by no phone call so I called him and he said he hadn't started working on the truck but he will get it on the lift the next day. Same thing waited 2 more days and nothing from him. I called again to see what was going on and he acted like I was bugging him and that's why he hadn't started on the truck. But same thing he said he would start it the next business day. Ok I'm getting the run around by this joker. Another week goes by I called him to see what's up and again he still hasn't started working on the truck but he said he was putting it on the rack while we were on the phone. I got off work and drove by just to make sure it was getting started on and it was still parked on the street so I took my keys and took my truck elsewhere. He is a liar and will tell you anything just to get you off of the phone. All could have been simple if he would have just told me the truck was too big for his shop and that he didn't have time to work on it. I would have been fine with that and just taken it somewhere else. He just waisted two weeks for nothing. And this is my daily driver. read more

Everyone else I took my truck to wanted between $2500 - $3500 for the repair. Ernie was able to troubleshoot the problem and repair my transmission for $500! The truck shifts perfectly! It's nice to know that there are still some honest shops out there to have your vehicle serviced and repaired. Thank you Ernie and thanks to Campus Automotive for the recommendation! Rev. I went in to get my motor mounts replaced because my mounts melted due to when oil heats up it melts rubber. I asked to have all the mounts replaced. He nodded and i dropped off my vehicle the next day. I also had a transmission leak. I had seen the transmission leakage so i know he was not lieng and the metled mounts. It took one day to fix my car. I was very disappointed when i came back and only one mount was replaced. Eventhough i have a warranty on one mount it was not worth it. Now i have to go back to a shop to get all of them replaced because only replacing one caused stress on the other mounts. I am not going back to him. Hes kind of expensive for me because im a college student. I paid $250 for transmission leak and a mount. I am getting all my mounts fixed, transaxle replaced, struts replaced, alignment, and bearings replaced for $565 at c & s motors that is way better deal. read more

My car wasn't shifting right, I thought it was the transmission. He flushed the transmission and found that it was the throttle position sensor that wasn't working. Fixed it and car runs better than when I first brought it in. Wasn't a super expensive repair and I think that it was a fair price! Great guy! read more
