1. The kid that was probably kicked out of his frat house had 2 people at the outside bar. This being to many people for him to handle, it took him 10 minutes to make a Greeny and pour a light beer. $12 -1* 2. The Greeny was wrong. It is concocted with a powder that gives it its name. They were out of the powder and failed to tell us this. -1* 3. We found our own spot outside at one of the tables on the grass. Our server was pleasant but by no means present. 4. We ordered peel-n-eat shrimp and fish tacos. The shrimp was generic and overpriced. The fish tacos were mediocre and fell apart through the corn tortillas. $24 -1* 5. We shared these dishes.....so come on and give me an extra plate. 6. Due to my boyfriends birthday that day, we asked for a bday shot. Don't try to get gas on the lake at Ernie's. Six dock people and only one who had a clue. Couldn't figure out how to turn the pumps on, tried to talk me out of getting gas because I didn't need much and they won't sell any gas before 11:00. Food is always good, though in the summer, the menu on the bar patio is definitely different from the main restaurant. The ONLY thing that has caused our pontoon to pass Ernies is the fact that it's newly remodeled and the line for the ladies room is unbelievably long. You'd think that with the demand, Ernies would have added another stall to make the line a bit shorter. It's disappointing. We love Ernies. We go there weekly. Fix the women's bathroom situation and we will be there nearly daily! read more

Ernie's is a family favorite. We eat there once a year when we're up at Gull Lake. We typically go a little before 5:00 on a weeknight so its very family friendly. Not sure about later. The kids love boating over and the food is pretty good. The only downside is that they seem (?) to have re-done the menus and bumped the prices up significantly. The walleye fingers are great, but pricey for an appetizer. Bottom line: It's not cheap for what you get, but it's tasty and fun. And the view is great. read more

VEGAN OPTIONS!! I have to give Ernie's high praise for bumping their vegan menu up a notch to accommodate people who want to eat plant based. They have hummus plate , a grilled tofu sandwich and avocado tacos. You still have to ask the right questions and omit the mayo based sauces, but - when you remove items you still have food in front of you! A hearty "hey hey!" to Ernie's in my book. This is not my first visit, and as always lives up to expectations. How wonderful to be able to dock the boat and after a very short walk be able to sit down outside with a lovely view. As always the service is prompt, cheerful and efficient. This menu is sufficiently varied to please most pallets. The food is wholesome and served promptly. Ernie's is the perfect place for an afternoon drink on the lake. They have a ton of patio tables set up in addition to Adirondack chairs right on the lake. I did not try the food, but everyone who did seemed to enjoy it. As far as I am concerned, this is the only place to enjoy a lakeside drink when you are in or around Brainerd. read more

I would not recommend this place to anyone. Service was great but not great enough to make up for the food.... I had mushroom stroganoff which had prime rib in it. Very plain sauce, scarce mushrooms, and shell noodles rather than stroganoff or linguine which was not mentioned. $20. My husband had walleye dinner. Soggy walleye, barely fried seemingly, $30. The lobster bisque was flavorful. The hot tea was great. We didn't even eat a 1/4 of our meal. read more

I like this place. Went in the winter, so I haven't experienced in full summer/outdoor mode. I'd say 3.5 stars, but bump it up to 4 stars for the area. Much better than similar restaurants in town. Fish tacos were tasty. read more

Service was dismal. We attempted to have a nice family dinner with our cousins from out of state but there was issue with serving drinks to me and another in the group who were of age and had multiple forms of identification which resulted in the cops being called to prove our age and then not getting a drink until after dinner was served. Not sure if this establishment has had issues in the past not following the laws but when it causes a delay and issue with our service it is very disappointing. Dinner also took 2 hours when most of the other customers had received their checks. Maybe that to make up in revenue for taking 45 min to order a drink, calling the cops on myself, just so I could leave or get a drink at this bar. The staff was also very rude throughout the whole situation and made me feel like the victim. GREAT PLACE IF YOU WANT TO BE DRINKING WITH UNDERAGE KIDS AND NOT GET SERVED IF YOU ARE OF AGE! read more

Gorgeous view of Gull Lake, fun atmosphere and fantastic service. Oh, and the food's good too. We started with a light appetizer of basil pesto hummus, naan bread and fresh veggies. I order the blackened walleye dinner, which was served over a delicious bed of risotto and a cup of lobster bisque that hit the spot. My husband ordered the fish and chips, but was likely more impressed by the awesome beer selection. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the Brainerd / Gull Lake area. read more

This is a great "on the lake" place. Fun atmosphere with good food. Fun dining not fine dining. Reuben sandwich was very nourishing.

Called 7 times to get takeout, phone not answered once, drive there to place order for two orders of fish and chips. Got my bag of food after 25 minutes to get home and find two plastic containers with 3 fish sticks in each, no fries and 25 mustard pouches. Never again! $30 for 6 fish sticks. read more

We have been waiting now for our lunch for 90 minutes and the waitress just thanked us for our patience. Now, as we approach dinner, I'm not sure I still want that lunch order. Ernie's is a great place to go! Great selection of craft beers! If you go during happy hour you could get $1 beers by a pull tab? A very important evaluation is the cleanliness.....Ernie's has been consistently a clean place to eat! The restaurant is right on the lake and has a great view...winter or summer. I reduced the star because the restaurant can be a bit cold during winter. I love the variety of ever changing choices of menu items. This is a great local visiting watering hole! read more

Ernie's was the best place we ate at during a recent vacation on Gull Lake. The menu is simple but the food is made with care and delicious. The BBQ prime rib sandwich special was excellent as were the house made potato chips (who does that? no need to "upgrade" to fries). The service also warrants special recognition for professionalism, friendliness, and efficiency. We were there on a sweltering afternoon and Emily refilled drinks and waters before we even had to ask. This is a first class operation, don't miss it if you're in the area. read more

Make sure you know that even though the patio and deck are only 10 feet apart, one has a separate limited menu from the actual restaurant, and the patio does not serve the food listed in the reviews such as the highly rated lobster bisque...I would say "enjoy" but I didn't.... read more

If I could go to zero stars I would. I'm a local resident and understand I gave up 5 star fare to live by the lakes...but ... last night was the WORST meal I have eaten at a restaurant - ANYWHERE. I ordered a cup of Lobster Bisque... 1 pieces of "lobster", thin, not very warm and essentially lacking luster. Followed with Cesar Salad which was virtually undressed and tasteless. Had the special entrée which was special only for how bad it was. Pineapple Rice served under blackened shrimp. The shrimp was soggy, not blackened but coated in a oil soaked breading that someone spilled the entire can of Old Bay into. Terrible. The rice didn't have a hint of pineapple to it - neither taste nor chunks. Instead it was generously over spiced with the aforementioned Old Bay to the point where undissolved pockets of the spice were crunchy to the bite. Service was fine but I was at the bar and they didn't need to go far. Margaritas were redeeming - but I was desperate to wash the misnamed "Special" out of my mouth and now I will find it difficult to wash the experience out of my memory. Won't be back. read more
