We went on a Monday night for Happy Hour and the $10.00 burgers!! The young server was very nice and sweet. She had only been there 2 weeks and she is only 17, so she had to ask the bartender for the answers to our questions on the happy hour prices and what was included. In town for a family visit. We are staying at the hotel. The food here is absolutely delicious, and, the new manager, Tami, is a dream. She was very accommodating to all of our needs We had the Spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer It was cheesy and had a nice spicy kick to it. For the entree's we had the Chicken Bacon Ranch pizza, and, the Patty Melt. The pizza was very good with a nice ranch sauce as the base. My boyfriend said the patty melt was good, but, has had better. We got an Andes Mint chocolate cheesecake to go. It tasted like a Girl Scout Thin Mint cookie! read more

Apparently the shortage of inexperienced (and trained) staff members has also impacted this restaurant. We visited on a Saturday evening and were met at the door by a harried employee who quickly advised that "food was very slow coming out of the kitchen and if we wanted to eat we'd be waiting a long time for our food." Despite that encouraging news we decided to stay (yes, we were new to the area and were tired of driving) with the rest of the guests who has chosen to hang around. By the way, the restaurant was not even at 75% capacity and the majority of those were families with children. The menu is simple and relatively limited and the "full dinners" could not be described as "low priced." My buddy had a beer while I had a soft drink and the first of each came promptly from the bartender (we were seated in the bar area, at a table).The seond of each was another matter. While he received eventually received a second beer after waiting at least 15 minutes (didn't get a clean/chilled glass by the way), the 'tender looked at my empty glass at least 5 times and never asked if I'd like a refill. That all took place 20 minutes before our food arrived. We agreed to stay and anticipated the wait for our meals and he food was fine. My wrap included chicken (pre-packaged with grill marks...Costco style) and tots looked good and tasted good. My buddy's burger was overcooked but edible. We were tired and hungry. The "2" rating could have been a "3" if only we had been checked on during the course of our visit. Instead, we were ignored while the "20 something" drunks at the bar were fed beers by the bunch. And by 9 PM, the staff was so busy trying to go home we, along with the other customers, waited way too long for our checks and any refills of beer, or soft drinks. Were our tables cleared?...not a chance. There are some hard-working folks at this place but the kitchen is obviously in disarray and some servers are much more interested in cashing out than earning bigger tips by providing better service to guests. read more

Today was the first time I was in since the menu change, and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food and the price was. Every day, they have half priced apps from 3-6, and the menu has some unique offerings, which can be challenging to find in the brained lakes area. We got two appetizers (smoked shrimp and pot roast poutine) and the Korean lettuce wraps. The smoked shrimp could have used a fatty component as they were dry, but otherwise I can't complain. Easy to find, it is well marked, and connected to the Arrowwood Lodge. We immediately liked the bartender. She was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We also liked the Bloody Marys. They do a great, non-meat, garnish, and serve it up with a small, beer chaser. We just had a couple of drinks, and snacked on some bar food, but found everything to be very tasty, and affordable. I loved the daily specials. The bar is clean, well-kept, and staffed with friendly people. This is a good place to come either for a drink, or for dining even if you aren't staying at the hotel. read more

We were surprised to find vegetarian options on this menu , and actually a selection of them!Superb quinoa burger and portobello Brie melt. Fries nice and hot and crispy. Initially we had a problem finding the restaurant. After calling to ask for directions, we learned it was the restaurant attached to Arrowwood Lodge. It was tough to find because nowhere on the outside of the building did it say Baxter's Bar and Grill. We only saw evidence of this name on the server's shirts and on the menu once inside. My husband ordered a beer on tap and I had the Baxter's Mojito. The drinks did not disappoint. For an appetizer we ordered the Bubble Bread that was like bits of fry bread in garlic parmesan sauce with shaved parmesan on the top and marinara sauce for dipping. This appetizer hit the spot. For dinner I tried ordering the Portebello Brie sandwich and was told they were out of Portebello mushrooms, so I ordered the Cylpso Chicken Salad instead. The salad had coconut crusted chicken, which was the other entree I debated on ordering. It was good. My husband ordered the Pork Belly Sliders and was not not disappointed. Our waitress was very nice and was the one that gave us the directions to find it when we were lost. She brought us water along with our drinks and offered us dessert. The menu offers many different types of selections with a twist. There was a nice selection of pizzas as well as burgers, sandwiches, and dinner entrees. We also sat in the bar area and watched the Twins play. Baxter's also offers weekly specials and Happy Hour and has patio seating. Walked in with 9 people into an almost empty restaurant and greeted by the hostess server by rolling her eyes at us with 9 people. The food was decent. I ordered the Caprese salad only to find out they were out of tomatoes. Changed to a club salad that came with out dressing. When I asked for dressing the Waitress rolled her eyes again and said you mean in addition to the blue cheese crumbles already in the salad. This lady clearly does not enjoy her job. So sad. Since chef Matt introduced his new menu the food has improved immensely! The appetizers were phenomenal and beautifully plated. The fire cracker shrimp was my favorite! And the entrees were very generous and delicious. Everything tasted absolutely amazing! The food did not disappoint. The service however, is another story. The servers were not knowledgeable about the menu. And reminded me of servers at a crappy home town diner. Upgrade the front of the house and this is the place to be! I downloaded the Yelp app just to write this review. I didn't expect for a hotel restaurant to have the best steak that I have had in a few years. It was the ribeye. The salad also had dark greens and not the same old iceberg cramp you usually get. The vegetables were crisp and fresh. One of the best meals that I have had in a while. The waitress was a little un personable and i felt like she was rushing me. But it still gets 5 stars for the awesome food. Bravo Baxter's! read more

My family lives in the area and wanted to go out for a nice meal to celebrate my birthday. First, I will say the waitress seemed to be on her own, on a Saturday night. She was super busy and gave good service, but it was slow and she did not check with us often enough, because she was helping other diners. The waitress is pretty much the only reason I am giving 2 stars. We ordered entrees which looked good on the menu. As the prices are 18 to 30 dollars for the entree, our expectations were higher than they would be for a fast food place. First, the salads came out and they had clearly been made probably a day before and refrigerated because the greens were sad and wilted. Then we all got a veggie side which ended up being fresh steamed broccoli, which is good, but then they were covered in canned gas station quality nacho cheese sauce that had formed a disgusting rubbery skin. The waitress was kind and brought plain veggies, but it still makes no sense that a professional chef would put that kind of cheese on a fresh piece of broccoli at a decent restaurant. Then we ordered the special which included coconut shrimp, but it was served with tartar sauce...with coconut shrimp?!?! The chicken Caesar salad had frozen pre-cooked warmed up gross chicken on a wilted overdressed salad. How hard is it to cook a fresh piece of chicken when the customer is paying $20 for a salad? We ordered drinks, too, and the waitress did not know if the beers were lagers or ales. So, we went to ask the bartender. But they did not know either. Crazy. The failures, in my opinion, lie in the management and training of staff and the chef's choices. It seems like they start with decent ingredients, and then cut corners or show lack of care in serving quality food. Note anything that was deep fried was fine. It was pre-made frozen food dropped into a deep fat fryer...pretty hard to mess that up, I guess. read more

We tried this restaurant on a Tuesday evening. There were maybe 5 cars in the lot so we figured we'd get good service. The hostess seated us, got our beverages and gave us menus. 15 minutes later our waitress showed up. We ordered our food then waited, and waited, and waited. The waitress finally brought our food which was cold so we boxed it up and left. On the flip side, if you are a table full of young men, you will get very good service as evidenced by the booth behind us. read more
