Great experience at Ernie's over Labor Day weekend! We found Ernie's through Yelp, and for those of you from the Twin Cities, if you like Maynard's or Lord Fletchers, you'll love Ernie's on Gull Lake. When we arrived at 8:00 PM on Friday we overheard someone say that it was an hour wait for food. On a holiday weekend, we weren't shocked but thought our best bet would be to take seat at the bar to get drinks and dinner. Here's the skinny: - Drink selection for a chick and cider snob is AWESOME (Ace Pear, British Crispin in the can among others) - Great service, staff at the bar was amazing - Very quick, was under 15 minutes for our food, even though it was the Friday of Labor Day weekend - Walleye fingers were awesome, definitely get these - Lobster bisque was very good and had chunks of seafood - Walleye sandwich was alriht (skip it and get the fingers and add fried) - Bloody Mary was good (use Mr. Z's) - Greenie is not like Tony Jaro's, skip it After having our meal we walked outside. I love getting a table outside and listening to the small bands on sunday with usually one to three people in them. They start at 1 p.m. so dont miss out. The service is great outside with the full menu and a small bar to sit at and order from. Sand volleyball, baggo, and also plenty of chairs line the shoreline so you will never get bored at Ernies on Gull! Try the bluey and greeny drinks...they both are refreshing and can pack a punch. I'd feel better about the 4-star rating if the wait for appetizers and main dishes weren't so long. In their defense, Saturday evening at Gull Lake in season has to be a challenge for just about any kitchen. Still.... But the food and service was good. The appetizers are big portions. We had the shrimp, cheese curds and pretzels. We were hungry and waiting and still couldn't eat finish them (except the shrimp). And all were very good. Just keep in mind the portions when you're ordering your main dish. We had the walleye sandwich, BBQ burger and wings. I called on Sunday and tried to make a reservation for Wednesday, FYI you must have 8+ people to do so. We only had 7 but the lady told me we should be just fine on a Wednesday evening. Unfortunately, when we got there we were 8th in line for outdoor seating. We sat inside, which had a lot of space. Sitting inside was fine because it was much quieter than outside. The menu is classic with unique takes. The lobster bisque was very good. Almost all of us got it. I did not get a side salad but it looked very nice! Our food did take a while but I was not shocked because it was a busy night. Overall, good experience. Our waitress was Danielle and she is great! There is a dock crew on duty and they do a good job helping you get tied/untied to the dock. read more

I like this place mostly for the view - the outdoor patio is awesome. I try to go early to avoid the frat boy scene that seems likely to erupt at any moment. Service is always hit or miss at these resort area places during peak season, but the service was good for the two visits we made - both friendly and stopping by often to check in. Great location and great atmosphere but the quality of the food was just average. The server we had was amazing and made us feel very welcome. Everything I've had - from appetizers to entrees - has been delicious. And you can't beat the views with the patio right on the lake. We loved Ernie's! The outside seating is awesome and the service was great even though the poor lady was running around from table to table constantly helping everyone. The Greenie is their signature cocktail and it was good. Their cheese curds are amazing as were the onion rings! I had the M&M burger and would definitely order it again. My kids had their old stand by, chicken strips with honey mustard and fries. They enjoyed them, but I'm not sure how you could mess up chicken strips. My husband and I have been there g F or several Sushi Wednesdays. The sushi is delicious. What I find concerning is that your advertised Happy Hour isn't really that. At most places, HH is either two for one drinks or an across the board discount. You give out a coupon with each drink instead. Our first visit there we received a couple of discounts. The last few times have been "full price" drinks only. So, defeats the purpose of happy hour. read more

I was really pleased to see Ernie's was still open during all the disruption from COVID. They have plenty of outside seating, we ordered from the bar and are in the bar's outdoor seating area. This really is a fabulous place to visit on such a breathtaking venue. Well worth the time! The burgers are amazing and beautifully presented (with the veggie burger being my personal choice) had a unique tenderness to it that made it just worth every penny. The soup was tasty too, lobster bisque. On nice days they have an outdoor plus and indoor bar which are both charming Of course, the location is key. The tables were nicely appointed with umbrellas and seating for our large group up to 12.There is a dock that we pulled our pontoon up to that made it easy to come and go without getting off the lake vibe.
