I made an appointment by referral from my pain doctor since my shoulder/upper back pain is still severe after a long time. My pain doc wanted an Ortho to look further into my pain, but Dr. Novak just looked at old notes and an old MRI my other doc ordered and went over with me and said there was nothing he could do, and didn't offer any alternative or refer me to someone to look into my upper back since he couldn't help. I pleaded for anything to help with relief, and ended up getting a cortisone shot which worked like magic for a week, which means something is wrong. I had to ask for a referral for physical therapy, but cancelled my appointment cuz I don't want to go to OrthoArizona ever again and just got the referral from my PCP to go somewhere else. I didn't come in for a second opinion of work I've already had done and gone over with my PCP and Pain Management Dr, I needed a physician to look into helping figure out the source of the issue. A very short visit, told me things I already knew, said he couldn't help, then pushed me out the door. $200+ charge for the visit. The office manager called and left me a voicemail after I did their survey, and never called me back when I returned to call. Front desk staff was very sweet and helpful, the physician was not. Went somewhere else, and guess what, something is wrong. Do not go here. ****Update, 2 months after this appointment I went to another Physician and they found I have a really bad case of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. We tried PT, but it's so bad now that I am going to need surgery due to how long I've had it. I've called OrthoAZ numerous times to tell them I refuse to pay for my visit, and they will not call me back or respond to my emails. I've sent numerous correspondences, talked to people who said they would follow up, and left voicemails, but they are avoiding me and just continue to send me bills. Dr. Novack not even attempting to figure out what is wrong with me has cost me months of recovery, and his advice to "use your arm more" actually made my condition worse. read more

Dr Eric Novak's approach to a "non-surgical" solution isn't always best. Our daughter broke her arm in March 2019 (both bone forearm fracture). Surgery went well but the rod was removed at 8 weeks (they wanted to remove at 5). After follow up xrays every couple of months, it was determined that she was not healing and a bone stimulator was our last option. Though that helped, her bone never healed, was always fractured, and the Dr Novak refused to do surgery. At one year post injury, we found a qualified surgeon at PCH, he installed a plate and within 6 weeks she was 100% healed. Now, 14 months post-injury, our daughter is finally using her arm again and working to regain mobility and function. Becky and Shannon are as rude and abrasive as I've EVER seen in a clinical setting. Pushing the patients through as quickly as possible. Bedside manner Las are in the gutter. If you want to fall Thru the cracks and be treated like a number, this is the practice for you. read more

On June 25th I broke my Femur and was flown to HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center. That night Dr. Novak reset my Femur. I had little conversation with him before and after the surgery which seemed to go well. During my post surgery stay at HonorHealth some of the staff commented how good Dr. Novak is as an Orthopedic surgeon which obviously made me feel good because in this situation I had not choice but whichever doctor was "on" that night. I will be seeing him on July 6th for the first post surgery appointment. UPDATE: Just came from post surgery check up with Dr. Novak. He was great. Very personable. Patiently answered all of my questions including explaining the process. His staff were very helpful, thoughtful and considerate. Highly recommended. read more

My friend broke her leg and Dr Novak did surgery and all was well until she went to the office for follow up appointment. During the pandemic the office refused to see her because she did not have a family member with her. Her rehab hospital did not want family involved to prevent unnecessary spread of virus. I left my first, and only visit, feeling like I left a used car lot. Nothing about this felt like a medical visit. This was the worst medical experience I've ever had. My concerns center around privacy issues, cleanliness, staff abilities/knowledge and ultimately felt like filling the surgeons surgery schedule took preference over the patients needs. I was being seen for a fractured clavicle, which I later to come to find out needs surgery in vary few circumstances. Jump to my visit... X-Rays taken first. I notice dirty, chewed up dog toys on the floor of the X-ray room. Gross! Is this my mechanic's or my surgeon's' office. But yes, a dog was roaming the facility freely - never have I seen this at a medical facility. I was brought back to the room where the PA would see me. The door was left open, which is also a first for a medical visit. I was able to witness that the PA was busy seeing a few patients before me, whose doors were also open. While I could hear all the conversations, the one that was most concerning was in the room next door. That patient had a fever and their skin, where surgery had been performed some month's earlier, was hot to the touch. After conferring with the surgeon via messaging, the PA told the patient was told to go directly to the ER. The PA called the ER and gave them all of his personal information which I easily could hear. It's not supposed to be like this, right? I had been waiting some time, maybe 25-30 minutes at this point when the PA comes in asks me about my injury; how it happened, how I'm feeling, etc. I tell him how the clavicle actually has no pain at this point, it had been about 10 days since the injury occurred, but I was having some back pain along the shoulder blade. No interest was ever given to the pain I was describing, instead we just discussed the clavicle. The PA tells me he's going to go look at the X-rays. The PA comes back and brings me out to a common area to show me images of the X-rays, one taken at the ER on the day the injury occurred and the ones they had taken that day. The one from the original date shows the bone nice and straight with little to no displacement. I'm shown one they took that day, and the bone appears to have shifted some. I later come to find out that the two x-rays I was shown were actually from different angles, one straight-on from the ER, and the other from underneath taken that day. Was I shown different angles because they wanted it appear to me that the bone had shifted or because the PA didn't know what he was looking at? In any event, the PA told me that he sent images of the X-rays to the surgeon via messaging and the surgeon recommends surgery based on how quickly the bone appears to be shifting. Surgery? I honestly wasn't expecting that. I started to ask medical based questions about the pros/cons of surgery, about the degree of shifting, etc.The PA didn't want to answer them, simply stating that Becky, the office manager, would be in to answer all my questions. I could see her waiting outside the doorway and he was obviously trying to get out of the room as quickly as possible. Becky enters in and tells me that she has already scheduled me for surgery, it will be in less than 36 hours and I'll need a Covid test beforehand, and I'll need to arrange for a ride to and from the hospital, and that she "could" arrange for me to meet the surgeon before the surgery if I "really" needed to meet him (and they wouldn't charge me extra to do so), but most people are okay meeting their surgeon at the pre-op meeting right before surgery. Wait, what??? You've already schedule it??? My mind is blowin', racing... what is my schedule like that morning... or the days after while recovering? My 2nd COVID vaccine appt is the day after... will I be able to go? Is anyone available to drive me/pick me up? Surgery... the ER doctor said surgery wouldn't be necessary? THIS is where I became VERY uncomfortable and felt like I had just been introduced to the "the closer" at the used car lot. You know that moment at the dealership... they've been evaluating your car for a trade a little too long and they have your keys type of feeling. Alas, I ask Becky, "WHY does it need to be so soon?" Her response "The surgeon has time available at the hospital that day". Oh! This has me thinking that this might have more to do with filling a schedule than my actual injury or in consideration of convenience to me. I left with surgery scheduled but feeling apprehensive about this visit. In the parking lot, I call a friend who also recently had to see a surgeon as well. He convinces me to get a second opinion, that this is not what a visit to an orthopedic surgeon should be like, and that I should definitely be concerned about surgery being scheduled without seeing the surgeon. Second opinion received two days later and surgery avoided. Surgery is actually required in very few instances and often done as an optional procedure. read more

The day of the apt forgot my mask was in severe pain and both girls in the office were rude and unprofessional to say the least. they advised me they don't give masks out and I could reschedule, I waited two weeks in pain for this apt in tears and that's the way Ortho Arizona Dr. Novak does new patient. my homemade mask will not stop Covid. obviously the doctor does not need any new patient.. FYI my bronchitis with my lung issues would not allow me to wear a mask but before that could be mentioned his staff in the front office was rude and sarcastically told me to leave.. thank you DR. Novak for showing me how not to be with my patients in my office.. will never recommend or speak good of you.. read more

I was injured at work, and when I was told the extent of my injury, the first Dr. I thought of was Dr. Novack! I am a nurse and take care of his patients in the hospital, and his patients love him! I am very pleased with my surgery and my recovery so far and would and do recommend him and his staff to everyone looking for a orthopedic dr. I rarely post reviews but in the case of Dr Novak, I want to warn anyone considering his care-be warned. I will preface my post by saying his actual knowledge of orthopedics may be fine however- he is the by far the rudest physician I have ever encountered & one member of his staff is actually the rudest human being I have ever encountered ANYWHERE! Which is saying something bc I have been @ my job 32 yrs, and each day I interact with hundreds of people! I waited to review for over a yr. hoping my feelings would change but my opinion and review is unchanged . First of all, when I arrived his front office person snatched the paperwork out of my hand before I even got 2 words out of my mouth to explain what it was. Since I only had 1 copy & the pages could not be separated I asked her to be aware of that, and she proceed to ignore me & briskly flipped thru them, and then demanded $25 a page! This was a very basic form to apply for family leave from my job. Since I had no choice I paid (not happily) since my $50 co-pay office visit, was now $100. And then it went downhill from there. The office manager came in to discuss the paperwork-which was surprising since it is supposed to be filled out by the dr (and I was being charged $50), but she said "she does them, and she has stacks of them to do"-she was INCREDIBLY RUDE, and basically implied I was some kind of scammer bc I was taking 6 wks off from my job to care for my teenage daughter (who was having a full knee reconstruction). I work out of state, I am gone up to 6 days at a time, and since I paid over 20 yrs into this benefit program and had never used it, I was quite insulted! I was given the third degree from this horrible person, that was on such a power trip, I was beyond shocked and very upset. By the time the dr came in, I hardly noticed his dismissive behavior, but I was not impressed with his attitude. I decided to put my feelings aside since I was pressed for time (surgery & rehab needed to be done before my kid went back to college). Over the period of a few wks, while waiting to have surgery we had a few occasions to contact the office. My husband called & was treated horribly by the office manager (he is a stroke victim so he speaks slowly)which seemed to set her off. When I called back she complained to me about his call. I finally had enough & asked why she had some kind of problem with me, and she went off! A day later, I received a call that our daughter's surgery was cancelled thru no fault of hers (and frankly mine, since a person can only take so much abuse, and believe me I did). I then received a letter signed by Dr Novack that stated I was verbally abusive to his staff- which was such a fabrication. My husband & I were treated in the most horrific way, insulted in every way. And when I finally called her on it, bc Iwas upset that she was so rude to my husband who already feels bad about his speech problem -I couldn't take anymore. Asking someone why they are behaving so terribly toward you is not abusive! So in the end,we had to scramble to find a new dr, and push everything back a few wks, which made the quick summer break a real rush. After this incredibly awful experience, I made a point of checking into Dr. Novack and found out he was instrumental in trashing the Affordable Care Act, and watching his UTube videos- with his insensitive, demeaning opinions of the poor, and his crazy right-wing testimony to Congress. I am glad I didn't let him have another dime of my money, and any positive opinion I might have had about him evaporated when I saw & heard what HE REALLY THINKS ABOUT his patients & the citizens of this state! His vindictive behavior was very evident & it was clear that the reason he has such a terrible staff is bc he allows it, and obviously endorses it. Dr. Novack and his staff are fantastic. I went to see him for a knee condition I've had for years and they were able to do x-rays in house which made the process so seamless and quick compared to other places I've been in the past. I work with Connie for physical therapy and she's great as well. Overall, the staff is nice, the office is clean, and they are all very knowledgable. read more

Injured my hip in what ER tentatively called a sprain pending an MRI for which I was referred to Novack. If the MRI would've shown a break, I'd need immediate hospital admission and surgery, the ER PA said. It was a Monday and I was instructed to get the MRI by Wednesday because a delay could create a misetted healing which would cause even more complications and a more painful, more debilitating procedure to be needed. Since Novack was the doc offering the hospital the kickbacks for referral, I figured it wouldn't be a problem to get the appointment. Wrong. I called first thing the next morning. Novack refused to see me until late Friday afternoon. I had picked up my paperwork a couple days earlier because I thought I could leave the hospital records I had to pick up, including x-rays and CT scan, and help the doctor get a jump on my case since he was putting me five days out instead of two. When I arrived that Friday, 7 minutes late due to the slowness of walking across a blazing hot parking lot on crutches, I turned in my already completed paperwork and was told to wait. I sat in the waiting area surrounded by what appeared to be noninjured, shady folks shopping the doctor for pain pills. After 10-15 minutes of the freak show, one of the staffers called my name and told me the doctor had already seen two patients who were late and that he didn't want to see me because he wanted to get out early. It was about 2:08 p.m. They wanted to reschedule me after I had already waited five days on a supposedly dire injury. I said, "No thanks, I won't be back," and left on my crutches in pain. Now, I have to wonder if I'm moving around on a broken hip and whether the doctor got out early like he wanted. Hope so. Sure glad he was able to help the other late patients and give them lots of pills, I presume, before telling me to go eff myself. Mark my words, this guy will be busted for some kind of negligence someday, probably for catering to drug addicts. read more
