I have just returned from what was supposed to have been a 1-hour session of physical therapy for an injury for which an orthopedic surgeon recommended physical therapy. I cut the session short due to the issue detailed below. Before I get into the issue, I must say that every single person I've met at this Spooner location has been very nice, very professional in demeanor and treated me very respectfully. And my physical therapist was, in addition to all of the foregoing, very knowledgeable. However, I am writing this review on the heels of having been, in my view, palmed off on someone other than the physical therapist to whom I was originally assigned and who is now "overseeing" my case. Apparently, a physical therapist oversees cases, develops a treatment plan of exercises and *may* do ministrations on patients, but it is someone who is part of the "team" who actually oversees those exercises patients do before the patient is granted access to the physical therapist for some part of the assigned hour. At this point, I have the feeling that Spooner is just a highly efficient "mill," running people through exercises, while having employees NOT credentialed as physical therapists overseeing the performance of those exercises - and who knows just how qualified and competent those people are? I am not sure I am willing to put myself in the hands of someone directly overseeing my performance of exercises focused on an already injured part of my body when that person is not a physical therapist nor, I am assuming, anyone credentialed in exercise physiology, personal training, or the like. And I am unwilling to assume that a person is competent just on Spooner's say-so. If I am being overseen by just some employee who's being taught on the floor over time by others and copying what they do, I could just as well Google a bunch of exercises for my injury and have my spouse oversee my performance instead. I have cancelled all future appointments with Spooner after finding another physical therapy provider that specifically advertises that patients are with the physical therapist for the full hour and NOT with some "assistant" who is "part of the team." read more

This facility is awesome. It has everything you need to get better. Drew is my hand specialist and I honestly couldn't be happier with my results after 2 visits. I am confident that he will fix my wrist. He even made me a wrist brace that's helping. Everyone there is professional and caring. You can tell when someone loves their job. This place continues to amaze me. I was originally referred because my previous care was interrupted because of other reasons and I was no longer under the care of one of the orthopedic doctors associated with their clinic so I was no longer a priority. My primary care doctor referred me to Spooner and I could not be happier. Within just a couple of weeks I was already showing significant improvement but was going to have a week vacation (previously planned) and was so hoping that I wouldn't loose much ground. That said, upon returning from a great vacation, I had an appointment with the podiatrist who had me admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotics and subsequent foot surgery. Two more weeks with no Physical Therapy. So finally back to therapy and I'm feeling much better. Spooner is pushing me nicely and I'm quite pleased with my progress. If you need Physical Therapy this is the place. Staff from the front desk through to the therapy team work seamlessly. If you are serious about getting better, this is the right place. After Achilles' tendon repair surgery, I began my physical therapy at this location. The owner, also a physical therapist, saw me personally and constantly monitors my progress. I had an unfortunate wound open up under my initial cast. When I expressed the soonest I could get in was a month, they made calls on my behalf and less than 48 hours later I was in front of the best wound care specialist. Had it not been for the insistence of my PT team, I would not have seen the wound specialist within 48 hours, as I did. These guys care about my recovery and have gone way above and beyond my expectations. I highly recommend this location for top notch care you deserve. read more

I have been going to Spooner for several years off and on. I first went there after knee replacement and saw Aaron. He was tough, thorough and very knowledgeable. He also worked on my wife before she passed away. I was sent back there after major back surgery. Presently working with Miss Becky patton. Her skill, patience, integrity and at times humor have gotten me threw some rough spots. She doesn't give up until she finds a solution. Her assistant, Taylor gets you going on exercises and stretches. She is always cheerful and keeps you upbeat. Recently had to see a hand therapist there. Hannah is superb. She worked with me continually until it was apparent I needed to see a specialist. She referred me and am on my way to healing I recommend the entire staff. Great people. Treated me like family for months ! I had a rough go after the loss of my wife . According to them I said inappropriate things to the staff and other clients . My bad I lost my wife less tan 6 weeks ago . Sorry I wasn't an uptight gym rat and I said what I said . They contacted me about my inappropriate behavior and told me I was no longer allowed there . Will mail you your refund. No one came to me an explained exactly what I did and I quote " were uncomfortable talking about it ." Kicked out without even hearing any details . What compassion ? Good therapists there but that's it . I won't name any names because they affected my integrity . I used Spooner PT after my motorcycle accident in 2013, and was so pleased, I went back after my knee replacement surgery last year. I have had nothing but positive experiences. Good and bad. They helped me with my dizzyness, where no one else could. But with my hip replacement after surgery, they tried to pass me off to someone else because my therapist forgot to tell me he was going away, there was always something else going in the large room on the other side, that didn't look like it was related to PT. I've had vertigo since 2008 and there after yearly. My worse vertigo episode was back in December 2013 and up until now. I was referred to this clinic for a vertigo Theraphy and was skeptical because I've had severe vertigo that won't leave me, and my previous doctor did some exercise Theraphy on me and made it worse. Mr. Clayton Hunter that I'm seeing has helped me a lot. I'm still getting my treatments and hope to be well and vertigo free soon. The good thing about this is, i will be getting my fifth session and possibly be my last. Okay....this is my final review from seeing doctor Clayton Hunter today. Above comment on my first paragraph was still in treatments. I did my Theraphy today, and come to find out that I'm doing tremendously well! Yes! I told my Specialist that I could not sleep on my right side since Dec 2013, that's a long time. Plus laying on my back straight on the carpet without a 3 pillow support makes me nausea. Well, treatments after treatments and this was my last fifth Theraphy and I think I can say that I AM VERTIGO FREE! People vertigo is no joke, it makes me look drunk walking due to my balance and equilibrium. Doctor Hunter has helped me overcome my vertigo. Plus sleeping on either sides left or right is great! read more

I had a back surgery 7 weeks ago to fix a couple of herniated discs. I was referred to Spooner at this location from my surgeon's office who's just upstairs in the same building. I'm glad I went and did 3 weeks instead of the usual four that my surgery would require post-operatively. Kevin was my physical therapist, but to say that I worked with him most of the time would be a lie. I would get there and he'd do a few stretches with me and rub my incision area to keep the scar tissue tip top, or whatever. He was really nice and helpful. If he had other patients, he'd go and help them get started and then I'd be met with one of the assistants (I think that's their title, anyways). I worked with Riley (who I came to find out hadn't finished school yet and I was actually his last patient before he left), Chris, and Caroline (I think that's her name). Riley was more or less always trying to leave early when working with me, but he was friendly and made me laugh. Chris helped me and was pretty nice and seemed interested in whatever you're talking about. Caroline, again I'm not sure this was her name, was the most helpful and I felt the most comfortable with her being that she was a female. This place has really good staff and they're all pretty friendly for the most part. The front desk lady, a woman in her 40s with blond hair, was the best part of the place. She's always very friendly and smiling. If I wind up needing more therapy in the future, I'll be sure to come here. read more

The facilities were clean and well equipped with everything necessary to assist me in my recovery. The staff was well trained and remembered my name each time I walked in there. I recently was a PT patient at the Glendale 99th Ave location. I was just forceably discharged prematurely today from my pt program working with Stephanie Adib PT and Mark McGovern PTA at the Glendale location. I was told that I was forceably being discharged because I had some mental health symptoms during session a few times and was having some challenges being able to do all of the exercises. I am diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, PTSD and BPD and am currently under the care of a psychiatrist and therapist. According to the ADA I have a right to have reasonable accommodations to help during my PT sessions. none of which were offered me. I was discriminated against based on my DISABILITY and based on the staff not knowing what to do about it and being uncomfortable. I know that if they had given me a little compassion and a few accommodations I could have been successful at finishing my PT, however this was not done instead my case was discussed between Stephanie, Mark and Clayton (co-owner) and they decided to discharge me without my consent or talking with me about it. I came in this week on Monday to see Stephanie and I was physically ill as well as some depression, paranoia, auditory hallucinations, and anxiety. I quickly realized that It would be better for me to reschedule my appointment and I tried to do so however Stephanie pressured me and tried to convince me to stay so I did. (By the way I have an excellent attendance record that has never been an issue) But now she is complaining about me not fully participating. I do not think that's fair considering I tried to reschedule and go home to take care of myself. ​I have filed a grievance against Spooner and an investigation will be pursued by my healthcare plan as well as I have contacted a lawyer at the Arizona Center for Disability Law to discuss this case. This place does not have compassion or understanding about mental health disabilities and discriminated against me when I was struggling. And my back still hurts. Thanks alot! LAME. read more

I had a tramatic brain injury from a motor vehicle accident and was seen by Spooner Physical therapy. I was not able to walk well. They saw me two times then refused to see me again unless I signed a lein on my medical benefits. I paid my co-pay both times and they billed my insurance for the balance. We are now trying to settle my accident and they billed my attorney for $916.00 for two 1 hour visits. I will never go back. Penny R. read more
