I saw Dr Kagel first for a badly arthritic thumb, but before I could act on that I fell and broke my ankle in two places, requiring surgery to repair it. I was absolutely terrified, never having had surgery of any type before, and I'm 71 years old! Dr Kagel and his entire staff were patient and kind with me, and Dr K explained everything completely. He knows his craft and inspires confidence. The whole thing was much easier than I had feared, even tho the recovery wasn't much fun as I couldn't do anything. It's been 8 months and I am back to normal (mostly)! Dr K never seemed to mind answering my endless questions, and when we discovered I also had a broken 5th metatarsal non-union on the other foot, he wanted to fix that surgically as well. But he also listened to me, and allowed me to try an alternative therapy that worked - that bone is now healing. Beside all that, Dr Kagel is just a nice guy with a wonderful sense of humor - he is easily my favorite Dr! I will be seeing him for the thumb surgery and I have no fears anymore. When I waited 45 minutes for my first visit, I was a little bit annoyed. That is the only extent of anything I could possibly say negative about this doctor and his staff. Dr kagel fixed my wrist and immediately eliminated all the pain I experienced this week prior to getting in for surgery. First time in. Dr. Eric Kagel is supper busy but they still made room to get pops in to look at his wrist. Dr. Kagel and his staff have great bedside manners, super nice. They took x-rays in house and was able to look at wrist. Dr. Kagel determined that the best course of action was to get a cast for the broken wrist. Pops got to choose from 5 different cast colors. 2 years into being a patient of this office - myself and now my 13yo son with fractured finger. Facility is clean, staff is friendly. Great location too. Dr. Kagel seems very knowledgable and experienced in his field. He communicates the details and the underlying root cause to the patient in a clear manner. Provides multiple options and solutions to treating the issue. Downsides: occasional long wait times before the doctor actually comes into the room, and the overall sense of an overloaded staff. read more

I'd give him 10 stars if I could. Went to him with a virtually non functioning thumb with a combo of trigger thumb and super bad arthritis in my thumb. pain 24/7. I saw Dr. Kagel yesterday for arthritic thumb they read getting debilitating. Got a cortizone shot and was told to wear a brace for awhile. Going to the doctor is never fun but i had a good experience and the cortisone shot seems to be helping. read more

In 2013, Dr.Kagel gave me my life back. I had torn the ligament of my right thumb off for the third time. After two botched surgeries elsewhere, I was hesitant to try again. Dr. Kagel is the best! I have Dupuytrens Contracture in both hands. I had surgery on one with another doctor and it didn't work. When I got it more severely in my other hand my hand therapist recommended Dr. Kagel. I had surgery last week and he was much more aggressive than my last surgeon and my fingers are perfectly straight. Besides being an amazing surgeon, he is so kind and caring. Update: It's been 3 weeks now and I thought I was getting an infection. The office was closed during Christmas so I left a message and Dr Kagel called me from his vacation in Hawaii, had me send photos and assured me that everything was fine. Dr Kagel is the best hand surgeon I have known. I am a pharmacist and I choose my doctors from my ppo Insurance doctors. I broke both my forearm bones, double fracture and Dr Kagel operated on me, he put a steel plate and screws into my left forearm, because the fracture was severe. Dr. Kagel treated me with a couple of fingers that were locking up in the joints. He relieved me of the pain in my hand. The issue came back and he recommended some blood test and discovered another issue could be causing the problem. I was treated for the other issues and the pain in my hand went away. I forgot to update that I did need ACL replacement which he scheduled once the bone was healed. Surgery went very smoothly. Dr. Kagel was great at setting my expectations for recovery. He also spent a lot of time talking about my options for replacing the ACL. I chose cadaver material since I'm still using my hamstring :-) But what I really liked was that he got me into PT before the surgery so that I wouldn't lose as much muscle. My knee is as good as new one year after the accident. read more

Dr. Kagel operated on my shoulder to correct a labrum and rotator tears in April 2022. Before the surgery Dr Kagel made sure I had all the information i needed, and answered any questions I had. After surgery he stayed in touch beyond the regular office visits to make sure I'm managing the pain well and I'm doing ok overall. 3:00PM appointment. I get there at 2:50 and complete all their forms. I sit in the waiting room for 30 minutes as others who got there after me are seen. I am then taken to one of the rooms and left there for another 20 minutes. And NO ONE bothered to even stop in and say something. After exactly one hour I walked out and if they try to bill me I will bill them for an hour of my time... guaranteed to be more expensive than his time! Now I will call my primary physician to let them know NEVER to refer me to another medical office like this one. read more

I was referred to Dr. Kagel by my Occupational Therapist Donna Banister. She had good success rehabbing Dr. Kagel's patients after thumb arthroplasty surgery for severe arthritis (and also carpal tunnel surgery). I have now completed my surgery (July 2020) and subsequent therapy and have near normal range of motion in my hand and NO grinding or pain any longer. Dr. Kagel did such a wonderful job that you can almost not even see the scars on my thumb, wrist and palm. He is also very professional and truly cares about his patients and their outcomes. Dr. Kagel is my go to Doc! He is an amazing Orthopedic Surgeon. He was referred to us by a friend to handle my Mom's Broken Hip. He did an amazing job and now is my Ortho of choice. He has helped me with 2 dislocated fingers, and my Chondromalasia Patella issues. When I saw him about my knee, he first followed up and asked how my fingers were. He is very caring, compassionate, very knowledgeable and professional. His staff is awesome too. They are always very warm, courteous and helpful. Everyone in the office including Dr Kagel always ask how my mom is first and foremost. He does get busy (the good ones are the busy ones), so it may take a week or so before you get an appointment scheduled. He is worth the wait. read more

He is simply the best! I have RA and had my left wrist, CTR surgery by Dr.Kagel. Getting initial appointments to evaluate, schedule a for surgery and Three post surgery visits everything went so smoothly. My wrist healed fabulously and feel i got my God given, no pain wrist, back:))) I don't wear my wrist braces or ice them at night since having the surgery... I am glad my Rheumatologist recommended him! Getting a surgery appointment was relatively easy, because it all depends on the severity of one's case...as my wrist pain was bad, got my surgery scheduled rather quickly. Now a year after the surgery, i am using my wrist 100% with no pain at all :) He did the stitches so well, one can hardly notice the stitches on my palm. Had a wrist injury and wanted to see a specialist, so on a friend's advice, I consulted Dr. Kagel. He sent me for imaging, then we talked about options for treatment. He has a great "bedside manner", is very patient and understanding, and does well to make difficult treatments more understandable. Unfortunately, his office staff has been difficult to work with. On numerous occasions, I'm promised a call back, but nothing happens. For weeks. Once in a while I get in touch with the right person at the office (only one person works on scheduling it seems), and they give me some excuse or another as to why nothing's getting done. I've even been blamed myself, for not being flexible enough to accept the one day a month they've scheduled in advance. At this point I'm ready to find another doctor to do my procedure. Several problems. Made me wait for an hour. We were the first appointment post lunch, and still had to wait. His receptionist was super rude. When I asked her after 45 mins about when is the likelihood of Dr Kagel showing up, she in her (I am the boss) attitude, said that I should go back to the room, otherwise the Dr might skip me by mistake. That did make a lot of sense !! Once he showed up, Dr Kagel seemed good. But by that time he had already lost me. Find someone more responsible, who will value your time. read more

I had a joint replacement with dr Kagel several months ago. I ended up with severe nerve damage in my right hand as a result. I found Dr Kagel to be curt, defensive & dismissive. I had Rotator Cuff surgery in Dec. 2015 by Dr. Kagel. The surgery went well but his staff is terrible! They don't return calls, even after they say they will. I have been waiting 2 1/2 weeks for a answer regarding having a second surgery to remove scare tissue so my shoulder will have better mobility. My question is regarding a insurance issue and a physical therapy recommendation made to me by Dr. Kagel. I had complained to Dr. Kagel after his staff never returned my call the day after my surgery regarding the pain I was having. His office staff could not be more unprofessional and rude. I am looking into another Doctor to do the second surgery. I hope Dr. Kagel knows he has lost my business due to his office staff. read more
