Sharks. Liars are well. Not to mention completely unforgiving and unaccommodating if your insurance…read morewas cancelled and you are poor.
First, I always ask if a visit is covered (vision, dental, etc.) because I am poor, on Medicare/Medicaid, and cannot afford it otherwise.
I arrived late and rushed, but I asked, AND THEY SAID "YES." Medical bills are something I once had many of, and poor credit because of them--I paid it off myself, in time, but vowed to never go through that again.
I was going home to see my Dad, and they said they would just do an exam and glue some fractured teeth from clenching. A month later, 0800- text message bill for $2100+.
Called them; they said I wasn't covered. I wasn't notified. It's actually a third party, DentaQuest. So I spend days being on hold, being told yes, no, call them; no, call them; no, call them. And all the while, the cast-iron bad experience (bad experience) dental is saying it's due in full by the end of the month, less than 2 weeks to pay off more than I make in an entire month. Hooray, small business.
I have worked hard to pull myself out of the mud; there are no flowers here. I paid off as much debt as possible and reached a credit score I never thought possible. I offered $100/month. That's less than a week's worth of groceries for me. No, they wouldn't accept that; it's paid in full by the end of next month or it goes to collections. Collections, great. What's the point of trying? Things like this abound in Boulder, CO, but nowhere else I have lived. Not Chicago, not Sapporo, Japan, Bloomington, IN; just here. This is why I have no will to live, for what? Getting crushed, repeatedly?
And the work? What work? I guess the glue is holding, but I didn't know I needed it before--expensive glue! But if the front desk, the first person you see, the representative, and the lawyers that create the rules for healthcare and how the institution operates are a clue to the overall quality of the practice, they're the equivalent of pimps.
And the "No Surprise Billing" law means nothing because the first form I always have to sign anywhere is for financial responsibility. They are going to get theirs one way or another, so be sure to always, always check. Hell, check twice.
Best Wishes and Good Luck
