    Bad outcome (2)

I became a patient at Experience at the end of October 2024, because it was painful to bite on one tooth, and Experience had a much higher Google rating* than my previous dentist. By the time I fired Dr. Altdorfer (January 8, 2025), I had pain in three teeth and couldn't eat anything crunchy or chewy on either side of my mouth. In between, Dr. Altdorfer installed one crown to treat my tooth pain, and 4 fillings which he assured me were necessary. But 2 of the fillings had problems. They hurt to bite on or floss, and one of them was sensitive to temperature changes. I complained to Dr. Altdorfer twice about this (and some continuing pain in the crowned tooth) over the course of December and January, and he assured me that everything was just fine and I was just being extra sensitive. Well I finally got to a new dentist, who found out that things were very definitely not just fine, and took the x-rays to prove it (see below). Turns out, Dr. Altdorfer had left literal holes ("voids" is the technical term, if you're interested) in my teeth. A Google Search will show that these voids are known to cause pain while biting and sensitivity to temperature. Even when presented with evidence of the voids, Dr. Altdorfer continued to insist that I was just being sensitive and the filling pain would probably go away on its own. The pain did go away, but not on its own. I had my new dentist redo the fillings and the biting pain was immediately gone. I actually have more complaints than this (they cancelled one of my appointments and forgot to tell me!), but this review is already getting long. If what you want from a dental practice is massage chairs in the waiting area, Experience is for you. If you want consistent, high-quality, dental work, I suggest looking elsewhere. *A note on reviews. Experience says they give $10 to staff members if you mention them in a 5-star Google review. And they reminded me about this on my way out. It felt like I was leaving a restaurant without tipping, like I might be offending them by not giving them a good review.

    Look at those beautiful teeth!!

My excitement started with his front office staff. Nicole was just awesome, helping me at every step with my new insurance plan, getting old records from my previous dentist and just making me feel like this office cares. A+ service even before I was a patient! Yesterday I saw Dr. Britt and his Dental Assistant Erin and I couldn't be happier. First, Erin was fantastic. I was complaining of some pain (cold sensitivity) and expected to need a crown. She took the time to explain everything that was likely to happen and made sure I was informed and comfortable with everything. Erin is very pleasant and extremely competent. By the time Dr. Britt came over I felt like Erin has been a friend for years. And the whole experience was made even better once I saw Dr. Britt. He was very kind and thorough with his examination and explained everything he was seeing until I understood what was going on. And the bonus... he actually recommended I not get the expensive and invasive crown and offered me a more appropriate treatment that cost me nothing! What a pleasure to have a dentist who's more interested in providing me proper care than making a quick buck. I couldn't be happier with my experience seeing Dr. Britt and his team. Dr. Britt is a really nice guy who really knows his stuff. I'm giving him the absolute best recommendation I can give... I'm sending my wife to be treated at his office. Well done everyone there. We've found our favorite dentist!! Do yourself a favor and give them a call.

The office is well-decorated and cozy with accent walls and aesthetically-pleasing black and white photos of people with ridiculously white teeth. They have complimentary fruit and drinks (orange juice, green tea, water, etc.), free yummy chapstick, and of course your obligatory floss and toothpaste. The exam/cleaning rooms all have nice, big windows, so you can look out the window or watch TV while you are having work done, your choice. Also, you have the option of dipping your hands in a paraffin wax bath for a nice hand treatment as you get your teeth done. Absolutely genius ... I mean, if you're sitting there for an extended period of time anyway, why not? Everyone I interacted with there was very pleasant, but, most importantly, honest. Dr. Alber has a very frank, here's-how-it-is personality, which I really appreciated. He told me I should consider having my wisdom teeth out in the near future, and when I admitted that I thought I would be doing that on my next visit to Peru, he encouraged me. "Heck, they can do it for a lot cheaper than I can -- and they have good dentists!" he said. I really appreciated that because he could have said something like "Well, the only way you can be SURE to have it done well is to go through me." I loved the no-upsale approach. My visit was very cheap; with insurance, it ended up being $22, but without it would have been $110 for cleaning, xrays, and checkup. I will definitely be going back.

Harper, DDS, MD's office at Boulder Creek Implant & Oral Surgery. My primary dentist had discovered a red area on the bottom of my left tongue and strongly encouraged me to visit an oral surgeon for a professional opinion and possible biopsy. On June 23, I had my first scheduled appointment with Dr. Harper. One of the first things he told me was that he just got back from a 5 week vacation in Europe. He looked at my tongue area for a couple of minutes and told me he thought that area was being aggravated by rubbing against some rough tooth surfaces. I was presented for a bill in the amount of $239 and informed that my Delta Dental coverage would not cover any of that "specialist visit" expense. He sent me back to my primary dentist to discuss the tooth surface theory and to return after a month for a follow up visit. Kat, the front desk receptionist, told me there would be no additional charges for the follow up visit in one month. After consultation with my primary dentist and some tooth smoothing, I returned to Dr. Harper's office on August 23 for my follow up visit. He proceeded to tell me how much he had been fishing throughout Mexico during the summer. He reviewed the tongue area again and suggested we proceed with a biopsy, "just in case." His assistant began to numb that area of my mouth. Kat then brought in an invoice while I was in the chair numbing up. There was a $55 charge for an "oral evaluation" and $224 for a "soft tissue biopsy." She slipped me a small piece of paper telling me I would be charged an additional $240+ for tissue processing and diagnosis. When I questioned the $55 charge and what she had told me previously, she said that would be the charge. She agreed to immediately discuss this with Dr. Harper. She returned shortly and told me he refused to honor the no cost follow up visit. A couple of minutes later, Dr. Harper entered the room and asked me if there was something bothering me. Getting more numb by the minute, I questioned him about the surprise $55 fee. He dug in, got defensive and refused to honor that promise. I explained I am a senior citizen on a fixed income. His reply was, "We are all on fixed incomes!" This is after telling me how he had been in Europe for 5 weeks earlier in the summer and recent multiple fishing trips to Mexico. This, from a man with the initials DDS and MD after his name. He said he did not appreciate the energy coming from me and suggested we stop the procedure. After being sedated and wanting to have the biopsy done, I decided to go ahead, even with some apprehension about how he would perform the biopsy in his defensive and defiant state. Kat scheduled an appointment to review the biopsy results the following Tuesday. She called Monday and said results were not in. A new appointment was set for Thursday morning. I showed up first thing and was told no results were available. She said Dr. Harper was scheduled to leave town for another 6 week vacation, and it might not be until October 11 before I received my test results. Dr. Harper was in the office that morning and told me he would personally call me as soon as the results came in after tracking them down that morning. 24 hours passed with no call. After follow up with Kat, Dr. Harper finally called me with a negative test result. 11 days to get a test result from a lab in Aurora! When I received the bill for the biopsy, it was $320! I have to say, Kat, his front desk assistant, tried to be very accommodating and comforting throughout my unfortunate experience. Her compassion vs. Dr. Harper's coldness, defensiveness and dismissiveness was a stark contrast. In addition, I also witnessed Dr. Harper's use of profanity and foul language. This is not the kind of professional I would care to do business with at any future date. The entire experience was very unprofessional, rude, stressful, humiliating and unfortunate. I truly hope no one else has to ever go through this with Dr. Harper.
