We got a surprise bill of almost double the out-of-pocket cost that was given to us in an estimate with no explanation. They up-charge for fluoride which no other dentist I've been to has ever done. They add a 3% fee if you use a credit card. Current or future customers, do not believe their estimates from your dental insurance will be accurate. Call your insurance plans yourself since Boulder Canyon Dental will not! Get the correct price from your insurer and THEN decide if you want BCD to do the treatment or not. Our bill went from about $570 to about $1,100! BCD will not take the time to do a "special request" with your insurance company because BCD is a "small family-owned business" and cannot ask insurers specific questions about your dental history. By the way BCD had our dental history from past dentists, but also didn't have time to go over it, same excuse. The insurance person sure had time to give long, professional responses to my email complaints, mostly blaming our dental insurance for the estimate mismatch but she didn't have time to call them to see what the actual cost would be. We had already changed dentists before all of this occurred too. The bill came after we had our records moved to another dentist since BCD dropped our dental insurance and would charge us high prices for just fillings and X-Rays. I have felt BCD has been money hungry since starting to go there. Our friend was overbilled by $500 extra, but he fought and won a check back from BCD for the errant billing. I copied my review from Google to make sure my story gets out: I used to really like this dentist. They fixed a broken tooth with a filling that broke in 6 months, which they fixed. Then the same filling broke again after ~4 years. I complained every cleaning that the filling was lose. Their excuse is that the average filling lasts 2 years. So? Are you saying you should be held to the standard of average? I want above average care. I went to canyon dental because I trusted them. Now I don't. I expected them to stand by their customers, especially loyal ones who recommend them. But I guess not. When I did a simple Google search the average filling should last between 5 and 20 years depending on material. So either the dentist lied to me or is out of touch with recent studies from the NIH that say they last atleast 5 years. On top of this they forgot to finish a tooth extraction properly for a friend I recommended, resulting in dry socket. I left the review at two stars because of their previous service. Which is reflected in my original review below, only because of the hygienist they had working: Great dentist!! Cyndi is the best hygienist I have ever had. Empathetic for any sort of pain you might have. Just has a super light hand that always leaves my teeth sparkling with minimal discomfort. I highly recommend Boulder Canyon Dental based on my recent experience there. The entire team provided truly exceptional service. The front office staff, Dalese and Berenice, were incredibly friendly, helpful, and easy to communicate with. They consistently followed up with me to ensure all my questions and concerns were addressed, and they provided detailed information regarding my insurance coverage. I came in for a root canal and crown procedure. Dr. Smith was excellent, clearly explaining the treatment process step-by-step and ensuring I was comfortable throughout the procedure. His dental assistant, Salina, was also very attentive and made sure I was well taken care of. The collaborative effort of the whole team made me feel safe during my visit. I was scheduled for a two-hour appointment, and I was genuinely impressed that Dr. Smith was able to complete both the root canal and the placement of the final crown during that single visit--no temporary crown was necessary. The result is amazing; the crown on my molar looks exactly like my other teeth. I am extremely happy with my treatment and highly recommend this practice. I've had a great experience with Dr. Jon and now Dr. Amy. A friend recommended I go to their office and I've been seeing them for almost three years now. I've had implants and a crown done here and now I'm working through clear aligners with Dr. Amy. They are very communicative: when I was having issues between the cost the insurance originally quoted for my implants, vs the final charge, their team helped me ensure I got the correct credit for the fees charged, since you pay in advance. I asked for a clear aligners quote one year before I even decided to get them, and Dr. Amy was incredibly helpful in giving me the information I needed to decide if and when it was a good fit for me. Upon scheduling a new patient cleaning, I confirmed multiple times with the front desk that they checked with my insurance and the total cost to me would be $0. Upon my arrival, I was immediately taken for xrays without any mention of the fact that this could be denied by my insurance due to limitation issues. I was under the assumption that they had already performed their due diligence to confirm I was within the limit and would not be charged. Upon leaving I was again assured that my balance was $0. 1-2 weeks later and I received a bill from Berenice for xrays. No one had ever once mentioned being potentially charged for xrays and/or whether I wanted to have those pulled from a previous dentist to avoid being charged. Upon responding to Berenice's email, I received no feedback. Weeks later I was emailed again, separately, with the same bill. Upon explaining the situation and requesting it be looked into, I was matter of factly told that my insurance denied the cost of xrays and I owed the balance. I then explained my position and asked whether anything could be done to make my negative experience better. I was told no and my attempt to discuss further was ignored. There was no apology to the lack of organization or correspondence nor any attempt to avoid a negative customer experience. This was a costly and disappointing experience and I believe Dr. Jon should implement a more thorough intake process and ensure his financial coordinator, Berenice, actually tracks and responds to his clients emails. This experience demonstrated poor customer service, poor communication and a poor intake process as it relates to insurance coordination and being upfront about potential costs. read more

I had the best cleaning with the new hygienist, Scarlet. She was kind and caring and best of all took her time to be thorough and was able to gently remove stains no else has been able to. My bottom teeth are cleaner and whiter than they have been in years. read more

I am sad to have to write this review as I originally thought that Dr. John at Boulder Canyon Dental was a great dentist's office and Dr. John, while still a very qualified dentist, treated me and my family incredibly poorly over the last year; ever since a situation occurred with my nightguard. When we got our new puppy last year, she decided that my nightguard was a very interesting thing to chew on. The team at Boulder Canyon Dental was able to replace my nightguard and it turned out that the next day my dog chewed up the new one. When I talked to the front desk at the office, they stated that they would ask the Doctor if there was anything they could do to mitigate the cost of the 2nd nightguard. I was told that it was Dr. Jon's decision (which, I was specifically told that it was because they did nothing wrong) that I had to pay the full cost, which I did. While this was their decision, it left a bad taste in my mouth as I know the marginal cost to make the new nightguard was not the full $500. Given this, I decided to write Dr. Jon an email to present my case (I have attached the email below). It's also important to note that when I called to ask for Dr. Jon's email, they would not provide it and insisted that I send it to their generic "info@" email address and they would forward it to him. Dear Dr. Jon, I felt like I needed to write to express some disappointment in my most recent night guard debacle. After our dog ate my night guard, I spent $500 to replace it. Of course I am kicking myself for not putting it in a different spot - I left myself wide open, that was stupid and it's definitely motivated me to find another way to prevent it from happening again. But I am pretty sure that it doesn't cost your office $500 to make a new night guard (happy to be proven otherwise), and to be charged the full price for the second one felt very unfriendly to me. I know you have dogs and, while I know it isn't necessary, I hoped you would have been a bit more understanding and charge me at least slightly less for the second one. Your office is incredibly friendly, you and I have had really good interactions in the past, and you're too good of a dentist for me to move on from, but I had to say something as it definitely left a bad taste in my mouth (only a partially intended pun). Russell Ever since I sent that email, which I never received a response to (or even an acknowledgement of), I (and my whole family) received incredibly poor service from Doctor Jon, himself. When I went in for my last cleaning, he did not come to check my teeth and the technician informed me that they thought everything was ok so the Doctor didn't need to come. The situation came to a head when my wife went in for tooth pain that has been plaguing her for a number of months. She waited 6 weeks (or so) for an appointment and when she finally got to the office a technician saw her and said the Doctor was not going to come. They looked at the X-Rays and determined that there was nothing that could be done by their office. They then referred her to an endontist (who, after calling, told my wife that this was not an endontic issue and she needed a dentist to diagnose the issue). Given that this situation was affecting my wife, I called the office and spoke to the Office Manager to ask her why the Doctor wouldn't' see my wife and try and get a resolution to my wife's tooth pain. She was incredibly nice and listened to my issues and told me that the Doctor (or her) would call me back the following Tuesday. I never received a call from the office and when my wife went back in the next week to try and resolve the situation, the Doctor came and told her that he didn't appreciate me yelling at his staff (ironically, he was doing this by yelling at my wife). They then dismissed us as patients. Dr. Jon and his wife are great practitioners of dentistry, that said, there is more to dentistry than being a doctor. His lack of willingness to even acknowledge/respond my issues and then his blatant vindication towards my wife is something that I find incredibly disheartening. read more

Worst dental experience I ever had! While replacing a crown Dr Jon filed down my teeth (without letting me know he intended to) and completely changed my bite, which is now causing other teeth to break. Plus the new crown he put on is big and misshapen. They also charged me $500 for a night guard that doesn't fit properly and causes jaw pain, which they wouldn't refit or refund me. I was told to that I could control grinding my teeth by learning to meditate! I've since seen another dentist that said the work he did has messed up my bite and that they never should hav put me in the type of night guard. read more

Wish I could leave an even more negative rating. They switch prices up, will not fulfill services when promised, seem unable to work their own computers, are unwilling to be helpful, and completely adverse to being reasonable. They also want to charge you for appointments never canceled and for appointments you have been told you owe nothing for. Their doctors enjoy breaking retainers and their front desk staff is entirely inept. They claim they didn't know this or that after answering the questions for them both physically (on an iPad) and verbally. I am totally impressed with Dr.Jon Smith and his caring yet effective dentistry. During a routine cleaning with Shelley (xoxoxo)and x rays, they found that one of my crowns which had been put in about one year ago, was badly fit and giving me problems. He offered to replace the crown for free, so that I would not have any additional problems. The fact that he was able to numb the area once and fit and replace the crown all in one visit was amazing to me. It fits better already and the tissue and gum around the area is no longer inflamed. It was done quickly and cheerfully and efficiently and I am very pleased. I will not be quite as reticent in the future about going to the dentist!!!! read more
