It was our first time working with a contractor to do some major renovations in an old farmhouse we purchased, and as anyone reading this knows, it is very hard to meet a dependable contractor. While Mario/ Salazar Family Construction is younger than most contractors you may meet, don't let this fool you. He has worked in the industry for many years and has a family full of people in the industry. We had a gut feeling on our initial meeting that he was a good guy and we were right. He has the experience. We started working with him on a gut reno for our bathroom and then our kitchen, and he did an excellent job on both. He is able to deal with issues that come up during construction smoothly. Mario made sure we were happy each step of the way. We will continue to work with him on our many projects upcoming and we whole heartedly recommend him to anyone who needs an honest and reliable contractor. As a matter of fact, he is now starting renovation for our friends kitchen in CT. Thank you Mario!

Very professional and honest the whole way thru. They gave experienced advice and were not trying to 'sell us' things as others were doing. They showed us things that needed to be replaced and explained why in the process...and were already doing it before we even knew about it. (Doing it the right way.) Everything came out great...and actually better than expected. When the job was finished, it didn't even look like they were here for several days...everything cleaned up and taken care of. Very thankful for them and the crew. I had 3 different quotes, very happy I chose them. Writing the review, to tell you to hire them as well! Thankful for them.

I hired Scott Vermilling after the first contractor scammed me. I had not had a bathroom for over a…read moremonth. I only have the one bathroom in the house. They put sheetrock up he said to show me progress. Sheetrock then had to be removed for the plumber. He charged me twice for the plumber. Two thousand dollars for a small bathroom. He said for plumbing to be corrected it would be a day or two. Thing is, plumber has a regular day job so he came sporadically. I would say it took over a month for plumber to finish and that is not counting when I was away or the licensed plumber was away. So here I am with a daughter with special needs and he could care less. Then he told me he lost money because I hired my own electrician to do electrical which his guys had messed around with. He was going to charge me another $500 for the electrician but I am pretty sure he would come up with another excuse to charge more. He walked off the job on 5/10/23. Contract had been signed in March 2023. He wanted to charge me for another new subfloor which I had paid the previous contractor $4240 for instead of leveling the bathtub. I had two plumbers and building inspector tell me that of course the tub could be leveled and also that old homes seldom have level floors. So this is another example of him trying to get more money from me. The sheetrock put up was not even done right. So I asked for my money back since there was really no actual work done besides them messing around with stuff. I have no problem paying the plumber. He is the only one that did a good job, not timewise though. Scott said I needed to sign a paper promising not to bash him or his company in order to get my money back. Well, no one is going to take my voice away. No one is going to take my rights away like that. So here I am. Oh yeah, he wanted me to wait 30 days for a refund which meant I would have to wait another two months for a bathroom. Still waiting for my money. Contract was for $4500 for labor only because I had all the materials. Once again, he added $1000 for plumbing and then requested another check for $1000 and never gave me an addendum for it. Ceiling in bathroom had two small leaks. Don't know how holes got there. He charged me $2700 for a small area of my roof. Done with liberty rolls. I did it because I didn't want anything else to delay the renovation. Of course it was overcharged.

Fortunately, I was able to get over the name, since Chris is an absolute rock star. My house had very high radon levels when I called him in, and Chris gave me a very comprehensive understanding of the problem, what the straightforward remedy was, what my cosmetic options were, and what the escalation steps would be. He over-explains, but that's far better than the opposite. On install day, Chris built the system exactly as planned, with a level of workmanship that could not be any better. The quality of his system and install were amazing, and he left no debris and no impact on any other part of my house. The guy takes real pride in delivering great work. A year later, I'm pleased to say that the system is rock solid and my radon continues to be negligible, a tiny fraction of what it was originally, and well below any level of concern. If you've got a radon issue, hire this guy.

The biggest job I've hired him for so far was to brace/strengthen and refinish my deck. I had the decking replaced last year, but didn't get around to finishing it after it had seasoned. A year passed and the wood was starting to look dry and cracked. My little daughter couldn't go out barefoot anymore because she would get splinters every time. Kris gave me a competitive quote and made an excellent recommendation on a material to refinish and protect the decking. Now the deck looks brand new, it has a little bit of texture to provide traction if it's wet, no more splinters, and it's super easy to clean. It was an all-day job for Kris and two helpers, and I couldn't be happier. I appreciate that Kris is willing to do some little jobs too. I hired him to clean my gutters, and another time I hired him to do some repair work and repainting to part of the exterior of my house. It's good to have a business like KAR that you can always call on to do good work for anything related to home improvement or home repair.

And in two decades none of them have come close to the professionalism, price, trust and expertise KAR brings to job everyday. Kris and his crew essentially rebuilt my entire home over a 3 month period. Spanning from wall removal, bathroom renovation, rerouting electrical, custom sink installs,, adjusting floor deflections, baseboard customization, door installs, crown molding and painting. Literally everything I could throw at him was not only done on time, but it was done right and at the price quoted with no surprises and there was zero worry about leaving him and his team to work without me home or around my dog. Even the most mundane jobs, like silencing every creak in every floorboard and hot water pipe in the house was done and Kris refused to leave the job site until it was completed. You're not getting a guy that does contracting as his job. You're getting a contractor that DOES his job, period. No matter what you're looking to do, I highly suggest calling Kris first for a quote or second opinion. I'll wager the only problem you'll have is being forced to put out an extra plate on Thanksgiving because a new family member will be getting invited over.
