I wanted my driveway completely ripped up and redone from the base up. Tom came out in a very timely manor to give me an estimate. He gave me a more-than-competitive quote that was good for 30 days with a scope that was beyond what I anticipated. I have very wet ground. They pulled up my existing driveway and rolled in new Item 4. They allowed it to sit long enough to firm up before returning to re-roll the low spots with more Item 4 and put down asphalt. They applied a generous layer of both for an amazing final product. They graded everything appropriately and were incredibly efficient. The only reason I left off a star is because of the communication. I had to call to find out when they were coming for the tear out and had to call again to get the date that they were coming back for asphalt. I would not recommend them at all. Just like another customer said, the younger generation took over and the work/work ethics are not the same as years ago any more. 6 years ago, Tom Sr. was in charge. They did a beautiful job sealcoating my driveway with all cracks carefully filled with hot tar. Since then, they bait-switched on me twice. First time they switched the oil sealer with hot tar filling to a latex sealer job. Later, Jr. told me that was his cousin and he's no longer there. Jr. said he would make it right for me if I would hire them again. But Jr. did the same thing to me this year. He sent another cousin over to do the job. This cousin, wearing another company's uniform, said no one told him that he needed to do hot tar crack filling. He got Jr. on the phone. When I confronted Jr. that not only we had agreed earlier about the sealcoating and hot tar filling and the price, but also his office confirmed all this with him, then reiterated to me item by item, which included hot tar filling of the cracks. Jr. said that it was the secretary's misunderstanding /miscommunication! So, the cousin did latex coating of the driveway and cracks. Besides, they didn't do a neat job either. Some part of the driveway edge was not seal coated and the grass on both sides of the driveway was black. Moreover, they tied the yellow ribbon on my fully loaded garbage can which I put outside for next morning's collection. I had to go out in the middle of the night to untie the ribbon and tied the ribbon to something else. I would not go back to them ever again, and would advise if you consider hire them, put things down in writing, don't trust what they say. read more

Deserves ZERO STARS!!!!! Absolutely unprofessional. No understanding of customer service or building client relationships. If you want to deal with an immature, arrogant business owner than you found the place. Tom seemed competent when he gave us an estimate but proved otherwise on the day of the job. Tom and his team showed up at 730. Laid out the lines reviewed the installation of new blacktop on 3k + square ft of driveway - an 8500 job... NOT cheap... in the middle of our lockdown. We decided to go with JWSmith because they were recommended even though they weren't the most economical we trusted we would get great work by paying about 25% more trusting friends recommendations. One of the things we expressed and were worried about as new home owners was that the pitch of the driveway was correct as we definitely did not want water collecting or god forbid getting into the basement and garage. We encouraged Tom to mind the pitch situation. After pointing out that it still looked high they worked on it a bit more. They called us over to ask "what we thought" I'm not a contractor nor do I do black top I think as a professional Tom should have been able to explain what we were looking at and the logistics to put us at ease - he did not do this. As we were viewing the area one of the worked said "I don't think we can make your husband happy" we assured them that if they could guarantee that I wouldn't get water flowing back into the house than we were happy. Tom said yes. A few minutes later came back to ask If they could order the asphalt and if we were happy with everything I said YES. At that moment his worker called out that the asphalt plant had broken down. So convenient I thought... Tom said it happens. Seemed not even bothered that he could t finish a job. Said he would Have to come back and finish in a week maybe two! I waited 2 months for an apt and this guy thought it was normal to push back an unfinished job 2 weeks when the issue was theirs. I suspected he was "offended" and asked if that's the reason he was leaving, he said no, but it all seemed too coincidental. The comment about not being able to make us happy and then no asphalt and then the long completion time. He said he would call in an hour. Never called. Next day nothing. Left 3 messages. Nothing. Finally got the secretary on the phone and she said he could call me after 7pm. It was 10 am. I asked if she could have him call me within the hour she said no he was on a job. I pointed out he took phone calls while here the prior day. I was floored by her response. "We think we won't be able to make your husband happy, you should find another paver" I mean, are these people serious????!! I expressed i was surprised at her response and as a home owner and client have the right to express my needs and concerns. Tom never called even though she said he would. You just walk off an 8.5K job because the client expresses concerns that as a paver you should be able to deal with and address better than anyone. I am in retail and I would bend over backwards for a client that's spends $25. I would never recommend to anyone. This company is a joke if they don't even know how to manage client relationships and communication. read more

Had them out to do quote 4 months when I ran into the owner at a deli down the street and he came over right away and gave me a quote for $7,500 to do my driveway. Fast forward to this week when I asked them to come out again because I wanted to make sure that what I wanted was covered and that it would stand up to parking my equipment on it. When the young man was done measuring, the quote was now $16,000. He explained that I need binder which wasn't quoted the first time. When I pointed out the new quote was more then double his first quote he shrugged. I've since received 4 quotes from other companies and this one was by far the highest $4000 more and while I've seen work and was impressed with it I can afford to pay such a high price.
