As a newly married woman, who works too many hours a week and has a very active social life I admittedly became a "little too comfortable" after getting married and I realized I had gained at least ten pounds and needed help getting back into shape. I used to be a great athlete participating in various sports and was disappointed in myself for falling so far out of shape. I joined a local gym, took some girly classes but didn't see any results. My husband suggested for me to start training with Chris Greenway and it took me months to finally give in (I had to admit I needed help which isn't like me!) and get serious about working out. It was the best choice I've made in a while! I've had a great workout and training experience with Chris. When I tried working out at a gym alone I honestly did not know which machines or dumbbells I should use, how many reps to do or even how much weight I should use to see results. Chris has taught me a lot so now when I am working out without him I actually know what to do. Now that I am getting stronger we are doing some weight training, which I like since its something I've never really done before and I am starting to see even more results. I appreciate that he does not train me differently because I'm a woman. With a busy social/work schedule I used to find it challenging to consistently workout. Setting up personal training sessions with Chris gave me the commitment and discipline that I needed to get into a regular workout routine. But I could not have done it without the support of Chris. Chris has taught me the proper way to workout so that I could achieve my goals without getting hurt. He provided a balanced workout program that allowed me to improve my health, strength and stamina. I've had over 75 training sessions with Chris and at each session he introduces new training exercises to keep the sessions fun and interesting. He's taught me to box, use kettle bells and incorporates TRX bands all of which I truly enjoy! Train with Chris - He's the best! read more

I've had knee pain for several years as a result of some injuries combined with a less than optimal fitness level and lack of motivation to put in serious effort to improve. When I decided I wanted to get better, I thought physical therapy would be a good way to get started. I met Steve Lavender at a different practice and when he left to join Equilibrium Physical Therapy, there was no doubt in my mind that I'd follow him there even though it was more inconvenient to get to from my work or home. I've worked with a couple of other physical therapists in the past, and Steve went far beyond the routine diagnosis and prescribed exercises. He took the time to understand me - what my concerns were, what I valued, what my motivations were. He didn't tell me "You HAVE to do XYZ" and then leave it at that - which I've had other physical therapists do. Instead, he made every step I took feel manageable, without judging me for what I did not do while at the same time pushing me to do more. As a result, instead of feeling like a lost cause I ended up feeling better about myself and doing more to help myself. He was also able to prioritize what I need to work on the most - which is to get stronger - and helped me focus on that. He's been nothing but encouraging, fun to work with, and someone who really does care about my overall well being. So needless to say, I highly recommend working with him. EPT has been a positive experience in other ways - there is big focus on vibration therapy (which I warmed up to after a few trys and think its an excellent tool to magnify any effort you put in) and there are plenty of vibration machines. Everyone has been friendly and positive, and its a good atmosphere to get better in. read more

Andrew is an amazing physical therapist, and I cannot say enough good things about my treatment. I went to see Andrew after I was hit by a car and had my knee surgically reconstructed. Of all of the many doctors and therapists I encountered over my year of rehab, Andrew was consistently the most helpful, dedicated, and compassionate. I felt that he truly cared about my recovery, and I don't think I would have gotten back to being active without his extra effort. Andrew was able to adapt my therapy program to my unique set of injuries, and he always had reasonable expectations for what I could do and how much time I could spend on exercises. He helped me to progress through more difficult exercises but never pushed me beyond what I was comfortable with. Andrew was incredibly understanding about the complications and setbacks in my recovery, which I didn't experience with other therapists who were unwilling to help when I wasn't making the expected progress. Andrew always explained what he was doing and the reasons for the exercises. I really appreciated his focus on functional recovery and getting me back to the activities I wanted to be doing. When I started seeing Andrew, I couldn't walk and I am so happy to now be able to do all of the things I enjoyed before my injuries. I would definitely recommend seeing Andrew if you have any orthopedic injuries, especially if you want to participate get back to sports and an active lifestyle! I would also recommend getting a bike fit. Andrew did a great job with my bike, and I have been much more comfortable since! read more

My name is Paul, i have been a very successful personal trainer in New York for the past 10 years, but over the last 6 months i have had a discomfort in my neck which persisted and annoyed.... I finally reached the point were i had to get someone to look at it- but where and who do i trust? a fellow trainer who i trust very much recommended a place called Equilibrium on 78th and 2nd ave, he was treated by a girl Anna Padilla, who helped his knee recover from a bad sprain, he raved about this girl, her knowledge, her friendly personality and the beautiful location. So i made an appointment and was NOT disappointed, very professional, huge experience with helping all types of injuries, has competed in almost every sport that is hugely popular and humble and warm too, instantly made me relax that i was in good hands... I saw her a handful of times and the neck thing disappeared, so much faster than i thought, i cannot tell you how much happier it is to get up from your bed and feel pain free..i send all my clients in the area there and for me to recommend my clients to a physical therapist they must be great and i assure you that Anna Padilla is and her work place is beautiful!! paul read more

I am a college student, former rugby player, and 3 time ACL/meniscus patient. I have worked with a lot of physical therapists, but Anna Padilla was by far my favorite. She is a great therapist, awesome motivator, and just a genuinely good person. A rugby friend of mind recommended Anna to me on the basis that she was a varsity college athlete in crew and powerlifting, who tailored her recovery programs to your sport. This was certainly the case. When I first came to Anna, I was scared about surgery and recovery. Her confidence and guidance made me feel more at ease about the process. During my recovery, she worked hard on rehabing and strengthening my legs/knees with a focus towards teaching me how to return to sport with a good deal more knowledge about my body. As a formidable athlete herself, Anna helped me plan workouts for outside of PT. Because of her help and support, I am good as new and have returned to doing everything that I want to do. Anna takes time to understand your individual needs and fundamentally cares about her patient's recovery. I would recommend her to any athlete, trainer, or individual in need of physical therapy! read more

Steven Lavender is a magnificent physical therapist. My daughter had complicated knee issues and other joint issues. After visiting a dozen doctors and physical thers who used approaches that didn't work and couldn't figure out how to help her, we found Steven. He figured out what she needed right away and developed an effective treatment plan. How did he do this? He understands the body and movement like no one else. He is a creative thinker, able to adjust treatment based on an innate understanding of the patient's needs and a keen willingness to observe the patient's movements in order to understand the problem. This is not someone who applies rote, cookie-cutter treatment. He tailors treatment specific to the patient and how he or she moves, her body type, etc. I am forever grateful for his brilliance in treating my daughter. In addition, he is a warm, funny, and understanding person. PT involves a lot of one on one time, and all the better to spend that time with someone who not only is extraordinarily talented in his skills but also so enjoyable to be working with. read more

I went to see Mark Ciolek at Equilibrium for 2 significant tears (well, one big tear and one major shred) in my right knee meniscus in hopes of avoiding surgery. He was awesome and not only have I avoided surgery but I am more mobile and stronger with better balance than at any time in the past decade (or more). in addition to just being a good guy, Mark is patient and stays involved in your PT both on and off premises. He is fantastic at explaining why certain exercises are being done and keeps the therapy moving and unique so it is never boring, always a good but not overwhelming challenge and, most important, successful in rehabilitation. He is always available to answers questions via email and provide insight and assistance. As for Equilibrium itself, it is clean and well equipped with some innovative devices (the zero gravity treadmill is great) and the administrative staff is always friendly and helpful - even at 7:30 in the morning! if you need PT, definitely seek out Mark at Equilibrium. you will be glad that you did. read more

My mother, an 83 year-old recovering from a stroke, had a physical therapy program with Steven Lavender at Equilibrium Physical Therapy. She was visiting New York city for a couple of months and wanted to improve her mobility, especially on the left side of her body. Steven Lavender was wonderful with her. From the initial consultations about her condition, her needs and expectations to the actual exercise routines he developed for her it was clear that he was very knowledgeable about his job. My mother and I found Steven to be very professional and caring, always guiding her through her sometimes difficult exercises, with laughter and ease. My mother loved working with Steven and looked forward to her physical therapy sessions with him. After just two-weeks, her mobility improved significantly as she started moving inside the house without using a cane or walker. Steven Lavender and the rest of the EPT staff were a pleasure to interact with. I would highly recommend this facility to anyone in need of physical therapy. read more

After the 5th operation on my foot the doctor recommended me to Matt Rome for physical therapy. Under Matt's care my foot greatly improved. He also recommended that I work with a massage therapist. Between the two therapies I have achieved a great deal of mobility in my walking. Due to a neurological condition, Matt has also treated my neck, shoulders & upper back. He has been able to reduce the pressure & pain in my upper body with his extraordinary medical knowledge & technique. When I was suffering pain in my lower back causing pains down my lower leg, Matt recommended a doctor at Manhattan Spine & Sports Medicine who was able to treat me non-invasively. Matt's compassionate care & consideration of the individual needs of his patients at Equilibrium gives the patient a level of confidence in his therapeutic treatment rarely found in other physical therapy centers I have encountered in my 73 years. I remain deeply indebted to Mr. Rome for helping to improve the quality of my life. read more

In April I was diagnosed with vertigo. Dr. Sylvia Hesse M.D. at Manhattan Spine & Sports Non-Surgical Orthopedics (my go-to doctor) recommended I should see Dr. Rome who is a licensed Physical Therapist with a Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy, telling me he's the best in the industry. Dr. Rome examined me and prescribed vestibular exercises to be done at home in addition to the vestibular exercises done in his clinic http://equilibriumpt.com/ Dr. Rome always kept my spirit up by telling me it's a temporarily condition and by July I'll be able to drive. When I visited him on July/18 he told me at the end of the session that my vertigo is gone and I should be able to drive. His office staff is courteous and always welcomed me with a smile when I came to my appointments. As time passed I felt I we became friends. I would highly recommend using Equilibrium Physical therapy services to anybody who suffers from vertigo or needs physical therapy. read more

I came into to see Anna Padilla yesterday and she and the office were amazing. I am recovering from a meniscus repair and even though I am six month out from surgery I am still having issues, partly because I was seeing a therapist who was being overly forceful with her therapy and making things worse. Anna heard me out, assessed the situation with my knee, and very quickly figured out some places where my therapy and own practices were lacking. Within about 10 minutes she had shown me a number of exercises that clearly showed where I was weak and where I needed to strengthen to aid in the healing process. She knew exactly what she was talking about, and gave me lots to work on. I highly recommend seeing Anna if you are having physical problems, especially if you are an athlete because she understands exactly what you're looking for in terms of recovery. Can't recommend enough. read more

I do not normally write on-line reviews but I joined Yelp specifically so that I could recommend Equilibrium. Having hurt my knee badly resulting in acute patellar tendinitis. I was left with a list of maybe fifty physical therapy choices from my orthopedist--how in the world to choose? But a friend highly recommended Equilibrium and so I signed on with them. I have now been going for several weeks, and I can only say that in my experience--and from what I see there around me--the care is excellent. I have been lucky enough to work with Matt Rome--he is professional, knowledgeable, and caring--and, most important, my knee is greatly improved. I would add that it distressed me to read a very negative review from a former client that mainly had to do with insurance issues. She should take that up with her insurance company and not let her anger spill over onto Equilibrium. read more

I've been using personal trainers for nearly 15 years. As a busy professional, I always find it the best way to maximize my minimal time to work out. I've had many good and, unfortunately, a few bad experiences with trainers. I honestly didn't know what a great trainer was until I started working with Chris. Always, punctual, professional, kind, supportive, encouraging and challenging. No two work outs are ever the same - and we've been at it for 3 years. Weights, kettle bells, TRX, boxing, kick boxing, etc, etc, Chris is trained and knowledgeable about all. As a bonus, he has a working knowledge of nutrition and is quite helpful in thinking about your diet as well. I should also mention that Chris started training my wife about two years ago and she is as enthusiastic as I am, if nor more so. I could not give a more enthusiastic recommendation. Chris is great. read more

Paul Greenaway has been my trainer for close to four years now. From day 1, he taught me how to get the most out of my workouts. From cardio to weights as well as nutrition and well-being, Paul's extensive knowledge and personal attention makes him a first class trainer. Over the years as we progressed to a more advanced workout, Paul introduced me to boxing and kick boxing. Such fun! He always takes the time to make sure his clients are working out to their optimal best. He has a huge core of loyal and long time clients. His success as a much sought after trainer is well deserved. He puts in long hours at various clients' locales and is constantly keeping up to date on the latest information on exercise, health and nutrition. His clients know that he loves what he is doing and his enthusiasm is contagious. I highly recommend Paul Greenaway. read more

I highly recommend Paul Greenaway as a personal trainer. I was introduced to Paul through a great friend of over twenty years. Paul asked me if I had any prior injuries. I explained to him that there were many injuries ranging from back, nerve, muscular and broken bones. Many personal trainers would have said I was to high of a risk to take on as a client. Paul agreed to train me and he designs at least three new circuits for me twice a week keeping my injuries in mind. He has inspired and motivated me to achieve things that I never thought possible. I have lost two clothes sizes in less than two months. In addition, Paul will check-in with me to make sure that my cardio workouts the other two days a week are going well. Words cannot express my heart felt gratitude to Paul for helping me make my goals come true. read more

Matt Rome is one of the smartest people I know. His knowledge exceeds most doctors I've been to, and he's also willing to take the time to explain my shoulder injury in a way that I could never get from a doctor. This information helps me understand why I'm doing my exercises, which makes it easier to get into a routine and speed up my recovery. He's also helped me understand what aggravates my injury and what doesn't, so I know what type of exercise is good, and what's too much. Equilibrium's facitlities are clean and spacious, and they schedule appointments in such a way that nothing's ever rushed, and I'm never being left on my own wondering why I left the house (which I've experienced at other facilities). Everyone's extremely friendly, from the therapists to the reception desk. Highly recommend. read more

Steve Lavender is one of the smartest physical therapists that I have worked with (and unfortunately, I have needed to work with several over the past years for various issues). Steve honed in on my problem and then targeted exercises, stretches and an overall program to vigorously attack and maintain my range of motion and, at the same time, minimize my pain. On top of that, he is hilarious, compassionate and a real pleasure to work with! Although I only had the opportunity to see Matt Rome once or twice, my experience with Matt was similar. Equilibrium PT was highly recommended to me by my physiatrist and a back surgeon, and I can absolutely see why. Finally, the office staff is friendly and welcoming, the facility is clean and beautiful, and there is virtually no wait time. Who can ask for more? read more

I'm a university professor and a stroke expert who had a stroke. I have been very fortunate in doing my physical therapy work with Steven Lavender for the past several months. I have gone from right-side paralysis (hospitalized for a month, intensive care for a week) to independence in all activities of daily living and back to my full-time job. Steve has guided me through the toughest work I have ever done with warmth, caring support, and great humor. He is an excellent listener and is responsive to my specific requests, such as focusing on increasing endurance and improving my form in walking. The support staff at the front desk are also knowledgeable, supportive, and helpful in dealing with insurance issues. I am pleased to recommend Steve and the Equilibrium staff without reservation. read more

I had knee surgery in September and started my PT on Long Island where I had the surgery. When I moved back into the city, I found Equilibrium. The staff there is so helpful! I worked with Ray who met me where I was at and pushed me to go further in my recovery. He did it all at my pace, and kept the sessions fun an engaging. Every time I went for an appointment I was greeted with a smile and by name. My appointments were always on time. I like the consistency of working with the same PT for every session so they are better able to gauge your progress, but I also enjoyed getting to know the other PTs at Equilibrium. I have been to other PT facilities and they really don't compare. I had to move out of the city recently, and I really miss my sessions at Equilibrium PT with Ray! read more
