I'm going back here the next time I'm in town. It was a really good experience. I'm used to getting Asian massage in LA county and I assumed the price would be more expensive here in Manhattan but when I saw a few places offering $55 for an hour I felt like I had to try it. Really glad I did! It was a painful massage but in the best possible way. It was like getting a massage in China. It hurt but every thing the guy was doing was with intention. Some of the places in LA are just being lazy just patting you down giving you half their attention or one time they just tried to flatten me like pizza dough. I consider that a waste of time and money. My masseuse was really searching for every knot and tried with a hefty amount of strength to work through it. It was exactly what I needed but I can imagine some people just not being able to take it. Imagine a knot being found in your back and then just someone shoving their elbow in it and hearing loud popping. It was sooooo therapeutic and I'm still sore a few days later but feeling so loose and without any real tension. It's like a weight is lifted all my shoulders. Pretty sure you can ask for a lighter massage. I heard a guy next to me say 6 out of 10 so I'm sure lighter massages are available. Can't repeat this enough, I'm going back again! read more

The massage itself was great but the ambiance isn't conducive to relaxation. From employees loudly dropping things (multiple times) to other customers who don't know when to speak softly, it was pretty loud. I understand some things may be out of their control but still, I was able to hear all of this despite leaving my AirPods in and playing my own relaxing music because there was none to muffle sounds. My bf and I Saw some good reviews on this place figure we'd give it a try. I don't know if it was because an hour before closing so they were just rushing. All I know is it was not peaceful or relaxing for either of us. We both walked out of there more in pain and tense then going in. My lady kept squeezing and pinching my neck like it wasn't attached to me. I had to tell her to stop.Her movement were so fast and rushed. It didn't feel good. Same for my bf. When you call to make an appointment they will tell you which to go to. I went for foot reflexology (thanks to Groupon for letting me know about this place) so this was the location for that. Frank did 60 minutes of painful reflexology on my foot + hot stones + mud mask and I added a 30-minute back massage for $28. (PRO TIP: BRING CASH $! Don't use CC. Just don't. Especially for tips and taxes if you are using Groupon) Yes it was the most painful massage ever but I came out feeling like I was walking on clouds. I've been suffering from plantar fasciitis for the past few months, from waking up to going to bed at night I felt constant pain on my right foot. After this one time, my foot pain is 90% GONE!!! Magical. I'm definitely coming back for more! Thank you for an amazing massage! Literally "best" Chinese Bodywork. You will not find fancy oils and ambiance here. They have tiny little rooms separated by curtains and thin walls. Sure it looks dingy but the massage really helped take out my knots and I cannot say enough good things about it! The only reason they got 1 star and not zero is because when we (my husband and I) came 15 minutes early for our appt they took us right away. To start off with the room they took us in smelled bad. Unfortunately I didn't get my massage therapists name. She was brutal. I asked her so many times to ease up but she just couldn't seem to figure it out. She also used too much oil. She then proceeded to put burning hot stones on my back with no warning. This was a one hour massage on ONE side of my body; very irritating. She also moved the table abruptly with no warning. Very unprofessional. To top it off, they had a twofer going on; Though they neglected to tell you that is only if you pay cash. I have been here a few times. It was okay so I went back for 90 mins today and it was awful. I went in with back pain and came out with the same back pain because the Woman barely did anything. I asked her to go more firm and she said she couldn't. I usually tip 25% when the massage is good and 20% avg. The shop is a bit tired and not spotlessly clean. This aside we did get good quality body massages. The odd part is that when we called ahead, and when we finished the massages we were quoted $120 for two massages ($60/ea). We told them that we would pay separately, and the price then rose to $65 each. Then, when we went to pay, we were told the price was $71 each due to tax. We each paid $81 (for the original $60 massage) and were told that this was not a large enough tip. CASH IS KING bring $$$ with you to cover TIP + TAX if you're using a Groupon (FYI-Groupon is the way to go). Don't be surprised if they charge a crazy fee if you use your CC. You've been warned! 2. Groupon accepted without hassle over the phone for a 60 min hot stone massage. The person on the phone will specify which location you will need to go to. (they have 2 locations). So make sure you jot that down. 3. Manage your expectations: No sauna, no showers. SUPER basic. You will walk out a little oily from the massage oils, but feel like you're floating on a cloud. Lucky for me, I only live 1 stop away so I'm more than happy to hop home and shower it off. Just an FYI for anyone else with a longer commute or who was thinking about going out on the town right after...maybe wanna rethink that. 4. Massage is fairly strong. She worked out all my knots and I really received more of a therapeutic deep tissue than swedish (Not a fan of swedish anyway) mixed in with some tui-na and stretching. 5. Mind you - I've had more than my fair share of foot reflexology treatments having had them on a weekly basis while in China. I came here through a groupon deal, for a 60 minute foot reflexology treatment plus hot stones plus mud mask treatment. A breakdown of why you should not come to this establishment: - Incompetence: the woman who gave me the massage seemed like she had no formal training in foot reflexology. There are specific movements and pressures a masseuse is expected to follow, and this lady knew nothing. Believe me, I know. - Unprofessional: at the start of my massage the masseuse kept on checking her phone. She thought I didn't realize (she put a towel over my face and told me to sleep), but I knew because I could see through the towel and also I could feel her hands losing grasp each time she got distracted. Not only was she constantly distracted by her phone, she was also distracted by outside noise. I noticed she kept on leaning back from my massage booth to see what's going on in the reception area. - Incomplete: I paid for the foot reflexology + hot stones + mud mask in my package. I received a lackluster reflexology session, a brief and sped-over hot stones session (she basically wiped hot stones over my legs and soles for two minutes. Yeah.), and skipped the mud mask session. (I only realized she skipped the mud mask after I left, because I had given her my groupon printout already). Wtf. Given that I've been racking up many running miles lately, I decided it was high time for a good massage. I perused the typical Groupon, LivingSocial and Lifebooker options but decided I wanted something closer to home, so Best Chinese Bodywork (good Lord, what a name!) popped up on the radar. A Yelp offer of $50 for $75 sealed the deal, so I figured I'd treat myself after running a weekend 10K. I called Best Chinese Bodywork on a Saturday morning and made an appointment for 2pm. The lady on the phone in somewhat broken English instructed me that I could come in with my Yelp deal for a 1-hour massage including both deep tissue and hot stone treatment. I headed over and was promptly directed into a curtained-off area where I disrobed and waited for my masseuse. The masseuse came in and we had a bit of pointing and explaining before she understood that I wanted her to focus on my feet and legs (both sore spots from running), but she got it and began. The first step included her stepping on my back which I only realized when I was like "Are those feet grabbing at my back!?" Yes, yes, they were. That was a fairly gentle start to what would be a deep and rigorous treatment. The back massage was good, but short, and then she went into the leg and foot business. The masseuse really gave my legs the business and got into the muscles well. She gave my thighs a good treatment but I was kind of like, hey-o, watch where you're putting those hands! After an extensive massage on both legs, she applied hot oil and massaged them again. She then asked me to lie on my back so she could massage my feet, which she also did a great job on. I think she was using some hot, ridged stones to dig into the muscles and tendons down there, which was awesome. The finishing touch was a fast wipe down with a hot towel to get off some of the oil and lotion used. The massage parlor itself is simple with curtained off areas for each customer and low music playing. I agree with another Yelper who wrote that some aromatherapy here would make all the difference. Overall, this is a fine option for an affordable massage in the Upper East Side. For an hour-plus massage, $50 is a good deal! I honestly would never have come here without their mostly high Yelp reviews. Walking by (which I have done many times), I would've been like "Oh, seedy..." but it turned out to be a good find and a great spot to get those knots out and treat sore muscles from exercise, stress or whatever ails you. read more

Great massage for a great price! I love the fact that it's a block away from my apartment. They have a great deal everyday til 4pm - $45 full body massage for women. I might just have to go back this weekend! The rooms are separated by curtains, so not the most private experience - but hey, you get what you pay for! The space was very clean too. My only complaint is that someone was snoring super loud in one of the rooms. He wasn't getting a massage either, so he must work there. Women greet you with friendly smiles. 80's muzak plays while you lay down and slowly become a blob of mashed potatoes. Your wallet doesn't hurt too much after the fact. This place is great because the prices are good (55 dollars per hour), the hours are awesome (open 'til 10 on Sunday night which seems to be my favorite night to go) and the massages are hard and skillful. I used the Yelp deal and chose the recommendation of 35 minutes back and 35 minutes feet. The woman who massaged me got all my knots out and definitely seemed to know what she was doing. Three minor cons: Knee massage. This felt weird to me. But, it probably feels good to knee enthusiasts. My masseuse stopped when I told her I didn't like it and skipped the other knee. She was quite receptive and kind. The other con was the gurgling sounds of something being washed near my head. Finally, I recommend better smelling lotion or aromatherapy of some sort. The place smells totally neutral; like nothing. However, it is certainly better than some other smells it could contain. Overall a very positive experience and if you are looking for an affordable find on the UES where you can relax and be potatofied, this is your place. read more

I love this place and try to go as often as I can. The woman I see there most often is Lucy, and she knows exactly how to manage the tightness in my back. She has extremely strong hands, but for me, she's perfect. I leave there with the deepest feeling of contentment every time. She is off on Fridays and Sundays, but I've seen other therapists there and they are all good (but she is the best!). It's $85 for 90 mins, which is very reasonable. I travel often and sometime when days are rough, I could really use a professional massage. I am very picky when it comes to massages since I've done this all around the world. This place is a new discovery in the city for me. I was exhausted, so when I passed by this place, I just walked in without an appointment, and luckily they have got an available slot for me. The environment is very relaxing and clean. Staffs are very polite and well trained. I requested an hour of back massage and a short young girl was my therapist. During the massage, she politely asked me if she was pressing too hard or too soft and it seems liked she cared a lot about her customers. Out of my expectation, her tiny hands somehow managed to give just the right amount of pressure to press on my tiring muscle and relax my nerves, and the whole massage was perfectly done. I felt reborn afterward. The whole hour has gone quick. I was very satisfied with the overall experience. For $55/hour in the city, this is one unbeatable deal. Amazing. Have tried another qi gong place nearby and this one is by far the best in the neighborhood. It's also right down the street from my apartment, which is a bonus. True, I did get pummeled --- but due to my own instruction. I like the fact that they walk on your back --- and i got all the kinks worked out of my neck. I went in being very twisted up and stressed out to absolute jello. I did use a Yelp certificate ($50 for $75). I do think I was shorted on time a bit, but still a great value nonetheless. To be perfectly honest, there's nothing wrong with the massage portion of this business transaction. I had a really good foot massage. The reason I am leaving 1 star comes from when I went to pay. Like most people when it was time to pay I reached for a credit card. The masseuse proceeded to say (by using a calculator) that there was a $7 fee for using a credit card, then she ask me how much I wanted to tip. I didn't think the fee was fair and decided to lower my tip. The lady said no and added the tip she wanted. I was really shocked (but was embarrassed to make a scene)! That's never happened before. Needless to say I will never go back here, which is sad because before that happened and was contemplating when I could come again.
