Super reasonably priced massages at $60/hr. I stopped by at Brightful Day Spa as a walk in after calling the day before & being told that walk ins are allowed. The recommended time was before 3pm - I arrived shortly after opening at 11:30. Unfortunately, they only had 1 masseuse that was already booked for an appointment. I came back later at 12 for the walk in, when their second masseuse arrived. Highly recommend just calling ahead and booking an appointment to avoid the limited staffing in the earlier hours. Tina was my masseuse, and she was so sweet! She really massaged out my knots at my requested pressure - it hurt SO good. The massage was well paced, and I never felt like she was rushing through any part. Would definitely request Tina again if I return! Each massage "room" is clean and spacious, but the curtains don't close too tightly. Not much of an issue, but the rooms towards the front have small gaps in the curtain that may or may not be visible from the waiting space. Just something to note, definitely not a dealbreaker. I came here about a handful of times now and it will be my last. First they make you tip 25% and she charged my card 25% as I said No and protested and tried to convince me this is the norm. Second of all, I told her 3 times to work on my neck because that's where the pain was and she kept saying later. I asked her not to work on my legs because I wanted to focus on where my pain was and she said later and worked on my legs anyway. Steve is amazing. My friends and I called for a last minute massage Sunday morning and we're able to get 3 of us for an hour massage. I chose Steve and he was phenomenal. I have had many massages and Steve is top 3. His technique is impeccable. But first, let me start with how clean the room is and the bed is SO cmfortable. Not sure if it was my aching body but the massage bed was like laying on a cloud. Then when Steve started, he asked a few questions and checked on my pressure preference. He was very easy going and within the first 5 minutes I knew I was in good hands. I wish my massage was longer than 60 minutes because it was THAT good. I will 100% be back when I am in NYC. My friends had two women and one liked her massage and my boyfriend was not a fan. I guess it is a hit or miss. If you want a hit, book Steve. I honestly was in awe at how perfect his medium pressure was. I like that he doesn't work the hell of my knots but uses different ways to get out a knot. I left feeling like a million bucks. I've gone to this place many times because you cannot beat the price. It's so affordable. And they do a pretty good massage and even throw in hot stones for free. However, I recently had a terrible experience and will not be going back. I have back and shoulder issues so I typically just ask the masseuse to focus on my upper body. This most recent time, I got on the bed with my leggings still on since I told her I just wanted her to focus on my upper body. She literally peeled the leggings off of my body while I was laying down. She undressed me as I was saying "no". Very violating. This wouldn't have been a huge issue but for the leg massage. It was truly one of the most painful experiences I've ever had. I'm not sure why it hurt so badly but it was terrible. I understand that the majority of the staff do not speak English, but the fact that I kept twitching and pulling away from her and sitting up should've been enough to get her to understand that I was not comfortable with what she was doing. I was literally in tears at a certain point because of how badly it hurt me. To top it all off, because she focused so much on my legs when I didn't want her to, I didn't get the neck and head massage that I typically do. I get chronic headaches and head massage is my favorite part. Maybe she was having an off day. But a friend of mine had a similar experience here. We will not be going back. read more

I went in for a deep tissue massage because after moving I had considerable neck and shoulder pain. The massage I was was...not good, very, very light to the touch and I did let the therapist know that I would like it harder (it was supposed to be a deep tissue massage after all...) with no luck whatsoever. So I was disappointed and was actually trying to figure out if I would have time to go elsewhere afterward for another massage since this did not cut the mustard. THEN, I pay and they add $3 to the bill without letting me know (assuming because I used a credit card), annoying, but ok fine. I then tipped using cash and tipped 15%. The lady then said "NO YOU TIP ME 20%-- YOU OWE ME MONEY" forcibly...I asked for a clarification, "is this a tip or part of my bill?" she insisted over and over YOU OWE ME MONEY, YOU TIP ME 20%! Now...the massage was not expensive but it also wasn't cheap, and frankly, a tip is up to the consumer and should be appreciated and the massage was not worth a 15% tip. Beyond rude and I will no longer be going here. Dont go unless you are going to pay a 20% tip regardless of the quality of service. read more

I came to this spa once before and loved it, Steve gave me an awesome foot massage and was very polite . I just came back and got a 30 minute foot massage with aime. My total came out to $30. I put a 20$ bill and a 10$ bill on the table. I was planning on giving her an 18% tip of $6.00. When I asked for change of another twenty she handed me my 10$ bill and took the $20 bill (totaling $40- a 30% tip) and put me in a very uncomfortable situation and said "this is better". I don't know why I let her bamboozle me, the massage was good, not GREAT. And my 18% tip should've been enough for her. I really did like this place the first time I came and I would like for the owner to let his employees know that the customer will decide what tip is good for them. Not the employee. I had a terrible headache. I fed it Tylenol. I fed it Motrin. I fed it Aleve. Excedrin. Gallons of water. Sleep. Caffeine. Exercise. I gave that ungrateful sucker everything without relief so I finally succumbed to a massage. I showed up to Brightful Day Spa tired and desperate. And relieved to find a 15% off checkin offer on Yelp :] Steven greeted my warmly and briefly inquired on my pains and trigger spots. I went for a $60 for 60 min full body with focus on head and neck. I could literally feel my brain lighting up the tender spots and I left feeling a melted, cozy mess but feeling so much better. I cannot speak to the other masseuses but Steven was great. It's not the most glamorous spot and you can hear the street noise (duh it's NYC). The lotion was not heated and unscented which I know unscented is probably preferred by many as certain smells may be triggering but I sort of missed having a lavender or minty oils that come with massages. But my headache subsided :] Sweet relief. Overall I highly recommend. Will definitely be back to help with my running pains! read more

My husband & I visited NYC last week to do some sightseeing & he had work at the end of our visit. I had cervical spine surgery a few years ago & am still treated weekly for myofascial pain & spasm. After days of a lot of standing & walking I was in excruciating pain in my neck, shoulders & back. I called to get a massage appointment for our last day in NYC while my husband attended a work meeting & was scheduled with Tina. My muscles are extremely tight & she worked so hard on me! I was on the fence to ask her to let up but new it was likely going to benefit me to tolerate it. She used hot stones toward the end that felt great & afterwards I took a hot bath at the hotel room. I've been using yelp for years but this my first written review. I just felt compelled to post that Brightful Spa is by far one of the better spa experiences I've had in the city. My boyfriend and I were coming from the gym and taken right away as a walk-in. We were greeted with the warmest welcome. We sat in the clean waiting room with Steven, a licensed therapist, (and the owner I think) who was so nice and personable. He said they only opened up about a month ago, in January, so don't be confused by the front door directory as it still has the name of the spa that was previously there. He offered us water as he listened to what our pain points were and took the time to recommend the best massages to help. We were shown into the side by side room. It was already prepped, candlelit, and had peaceful music playing. Everything was very clean and serene. My boyfriend got a 60min mixed set with Swedish and hot stone from Amy. He says she was very strong and knew exactly what to do for his pain points in hips, neck, and lower back. And I just got the 60min deep tissue from Steven for my neck, upper back, and feet. Throughout the session, he asked how I was and ensured I was comfortable and relaxed. I think the both of them even went over the 60min time limit! Needless to say, my boyfriend and I have never felt more stretched, relaxed, and loose after this session! We are definitely coming back as regulars! Thank you Brightful Spa! read more

I've had so many knots in my back and shoulders that I thought it was finally time to get a massage. I saw that Brightful Day Spa had opened recently and thought I would give it a try. It's a clean and quiet facility. There aren't rooms per se but privacy panels that divide up the space. I was the only one at 4:30 on a Friday. This was my first deep tissue massage and I must admit it was painful!! But my masseuse really worked out all the knots and knew what she was doing. I already feel like my posture is better and my shoulders are so much relaxed. Don't underestimate these tiny ladies!! It came out to $40 (before tip) for 45-minutes when I mentioned the Yelp 15% off discount, which was very reasonable. I would definitely like to come again. My only gripe is that prices aren't really clear. I wish there was a price menu or website advertising the prices. read more

2.5 stars here as my review is really based on lack of consistency. I was very disappointed in my third time coming back here as the first two were rather good (the reason I returned)! Unfortunately, I had such a poor experience the 3rd time that it makes me wary of being a repeat customer. After a long stressful week, I hoped for a relaxing hour massage. I called to make an appointment and was confirmed. I did call again to push the appointment later due to travel delays with rain and was told it would be fine. I did end up getting in a few minutes late but they took me in fairly quickly. The masseuse who worked on me was rushed and brusque from beginning to end. First off, she did not knock when I was getting ready and walked straight in, without carefully closing the curtains for privacy. Through the massage, she did not ask about pressure (it was either a glorified lotioning or extremely hard and painful) and she would often roughly pull the towel off and on or adjust me without warning as she moved to different areas. When putting the hot stones on (I actually did not ask for a hot stone massage) she also did not wait for them to cool, and even when I said it was too hot, she did not remove them - same with the hot towel afterwards. Ouch. To make matters worse, she would continue to talk loudly to the other masseuse who was massaging a client in the next room! I could also hear clients being turned away due to double booked appointments from outside my room. In short, I came away from the massage feeling more stressed out than when I walked in. It's a shame to write this review as I had a decent experience twice, but this most recent service left me with quite a poor taste in my mouth. read more

I'm reluctantly raving about Brightful because I don't want too many people to crowd it or drive up the prices LOL... A colleague of mine invited me to Brightful because we both needed massages... TERRIBLY!!! We needed one not too far from our office and reasonably-priced. She found Brightful on Yelp and my fellow reviewers helped to cement our decision to check it out. We both got deep tissue massages. She went to the back with Steve and I was up front with.... I'm so upset that I forgot her name because I need to ask for her again when I go back next week! She was amazing! It flowed well and although it was a deep tissue massage, she didn't beat me up like other massage therapists. She actually massaged me to sleep! It was very calming and relaxing and I really enjoyed my massage. My colleague is a tough cookie, but she said Steve did a great job and she wasn't sore the next day. This will be our monthly relaxation meet up. I'm curious to try out a Reiki session before the new year begins. The place is clean and the lighting is relaxing. I would just suggest some aromatherapy oils burn to help clients relax more and perhaps a timer that doesn't ring so loudly or makes nature sounds. It brought my relaxation to an abrupt halt. Those things are very minor, though, and hopefully will be considered upon our return! Great value, great massage, and great staff!!! I'm still upset that I forgot my masseuse's name! ugh! In light of all the good reviews on yelp and the fact that I needed a massage badly, I decided to try this place. Overall, I had a good experience. I had May who didn't speak much English. As soon as I walked in she worked on me. She didn't speak to me throughout the whole process but she did a good job at relieving my tense muscles and knots. She really focused on the neck and spine area. I thought she was a bit rough when pinching my neck but I told her to use less strength and it was comfortable. I'd seen their sign on the sidewalk, but had no idea that Heaven was just one flight up. Brightful is clean, peaceful, well-designed and way zen. So are the calm and professional people who run it. The music was right up my alley, relaxing but not generic. I booked a 60 minute massage with Steve, but then bumped it up to 90 minutes because A) I could not leave Heaven so soon, and B) it is so affordable.
