I called ahead to ask if I can bring in my trumpet for an estimate for services. 2. I got there, got an estimate for services. I was also informed that I would be notified if the cost would be greater. 3. I did get a phone call that the trumpet for the most part was done but there were other issues (which I knew existed when I first had it over two decades ago) which could be resolved but it'd cost extra. I agreed to it. I figured if I'm going to get it serviced, I should just pay to get it serviced in full and the right way. The communications were timely and transparent. Looking around the place reminds you of a music store Mr. Rogers would have visited. I'm happy there is a brick-and-mortar shop that still performs this craft of repairing instruments. Also, out of all the years I've played this old Yamaha trumpet, it never played so great as it does now. It pays to have a professional service. Of note, best time to go here is in the morning if you drive because there's a good chance you'll find free 2 hour parking.

He took the time to examine my Alto Sax that caused me 4 trips and almost $250.00 at Oberloh Woodwind and Brass Works and the Sax was still not functioning as before. I was in a pinch. I was looking to rent a bass amp for a show, and my original place fell through…read moredue to their rehearsal studios losing two bass amps that week. So I looked around, and a friend of mine told me about SIR. I didn't know there was one in Seattle, as I was only familiar with their large Hollywood, CA location. I took a look on their website and saw what they had available. I really only needed a combo amp since the venue was small. So I called them, and the staff there was very friendly. I asked about a bass combo, which is something they don't get a lot of calls for...so all they had was an Ampeg BA-500, which is a pretty solid combo and would work for what I needed. It was a bit tough to find the place, as it is only a block East of Stone Way. I got there and talked to Dave and Andre, who found out that two hours after I called THAT amp went out too. So they took care of me and gave me a deal on a GK 800RB head and a 4x10 classic Ampeg cabinet. A bit more than what I had anticipated on hauling, but good thing my girlfriend has a good sized back seat in her car. The gear got me through, and the process was quick and painless. The show went off great...and my bass sounded amazing. The lack of selection of combos was what was teetering between a 4 and a 5, but their service pushed them over the top. They were friendly and they knew what they were doing. If you need a quick rental, I highly recommend SIR.

Where to start? Robert has done 3 jobs for me in the past year. First, he setup an Epiphone 339…read morethat looked great but didn't sound so hot. After his setup it sings and is now my favorite guitar. Next, I gave him a VOX Guardsman amp that had some static issues. He checked and cleaned every connection. When I got it back it sounded clean and loud. Next, he did a repair/restoration of an old LP that I did not take a care of. He straightened the neck, installed new frets, gold hardware and tuners, adjusted the nut and polished the whole thing. Robert returned it to factory condition. The neck is straight and the action is sublime. The quality of Robert's work is very high and he is equally gifted with instruments and amps which is rare. Additionaly, Robert is really easy to work with, a great communicator and his rates are super reasonable. I am very glad I found him and will be bringing him more work. I've had some good repairs before but Robert and Smithway are the best I have experienced.
