We needed a slab of stone for a hearth in our new fireplace…read more Their location is a little dusty by nature, but once inside, their office is quite pleasant. We walked their on site supply of stone pieces with a sales person and lucked into a large quartz remnant that was a perfect color match for the stone we were using for the fireplace. Due to the size of the remnant, the final hearth had to be cut into 3 pieces. Each piece was perfect, artfully arranged, and, once the install was complete, the seams are virtually invisible. We were very happy with the service, support and product from IntelliStone, and would very much recommend them. Service appointments were on time, communication good, every aspect of their support was reliable, professional, and quality.

We are doing a small butler's pantry in our home and needed a countertop so I went to IntelliStone…read morebecause they had helped me several years ago with a small project in a bathroom and I knew they had a good selection of remnants. The designer I talked to there could not have been more rude. She first interrupted me as I was explaining what I was looking for to say that the minimum fee would be a $1000. I said that was fine, but then asked if that included remnants she then rudely said that if I wanted a 1" by 1" square of granite, it would be $1000. I thought ok, as I did need quite more than that... I then showed her pictures of the project explaining how there was granite in the adjoining kitchen that I knew would be impossible to match so I wanted something noticeably different but coordinating. She quickly said that she recognized the granite I had, so I said, "oh really, do you perhaps have some of that on hand?" Here's condescending response was that they might, but they generally only install it in very old homes. I then asked if we could take a look at their remnants outside, to which I was told I needed to sign a waiver to walk out there with her and literally said, "if a piece of granite falls on you, it's your fault not ours, so please don't sue us." Once outside she indicated a remnant as the one I currently have, you know the one only old, outdated homes have... I looked and it was nothing like the granite I had shown her in my pictures, nit even remotely similar. Not sure why I was even still talking to this woman, but I looked at all they had outside which consisted of mainly whites, Grey's and blacks. i was looking for warmth... both in terms of color scheme and personality. Honestly, at tgat point if I had found exactly what I wanted, there is no way I would have done business with them. Thankfully, IntelliStone has competition in Franklin. 10minutes later I was talking to the most friendly and helpful lady at The Granite Place who took me back into their shop so I could see everything they had (no waiver by the way). They had very nice selection and were very accommodating. Sorry I even wasted my time at IntelliStone. It will never happen again, nor would I ever recommend them.

It's nice to just be able to walk around and get ideas of what you like. You can buy samples to take home. The people working there are always nice and willing to help. This experience was the opposite. So nice to be welcomed in. I've been to the store many times for this project as I'm doing 3 bathrooms and a fireplace and wanted to make sure I'm making the right decisions. Also they don't apply any pressure. Unlike the designer shops floor and decors pricing is upfront and visible, there's no begging to find out costs. There's no falling in love to just find out it's out of budget later. I love the transparency. My contractor also likes working with them.

I first visited Murdock Mendelsohn about 23 years ago, and my visit this past week took me back in…read moretime, you could say. Most yelpers will probably never have a reason to visit this store. They sell store fixtures - clothing racks and size dividing tags, mannequins, glass display cabinets, and other odds and ends. 23 years ago, they sold lots more - including a huge year round Christmas room where once I needed a tabletop Christmas tree in June for a money tree gift for a wedding. Yep, they had it. Mrs. Mendelsohn once convinced me to purchase a huge pack of tissue paper will all sorts of bad abstract floral prints on it, I mean tons of it, for something like $5. I used that tissue for, well, I still have some if you need it. I've also been known to purchase a huge commercial roll of gift wrap, again super cheap, but that print I tired of and gave away long ago. If you need a life size cardboard cut out of George W. Bush, Elvis, or Darth Vadar - this is your place. If you need a large disco ball, got it. This past visit they were displaying several strands of small mirrored shapes connected by fishing line that hung from the ceiling. I don't know why in the world I'd ever need that, but they are $8 if you have a use for them. (And if you do, let me know what you're going to do with them, because I really wanted to buy some, too, but couldn't think of a practical use!) This is now where I go to buy accessories for the silent auctions I manage - those black velvet displays for necklaces, earrings, and bracelets - ever wondered where people buy those? Now you know. This store isn't much to look at, and the location isn't the best on Dickerson Road - but they've been there forever. They are nice people, and this family owned small business is clearly suffering of late - and now they don't sell much of the decorations anymore since eveyrwhere does, too. But if you need a mannequin, or jewelry display holder, or a large assortment of matching gift boxes or bags... and you don't want to pay retail, then head on over.
