It's been a few weeks since I posted my initial review, and I am very happy to report that things have been turned around significantly. Obviously, I was extremely frustrated when I composed my initial review. I expected to get the standard Yelp response of "Dear Mrs. Reed, we're sorry to hear you had a negative experience. That's not what we strive for. Please reach out to us at ###-#### so we can further discuss this. Blah blah blah." But, no. The morning after I wrote my initial review, Nate, one of the partners of Epic Energy (not just some random customer service Joe Schmo), reached out to me via email to discuss what was going on. I initially planned on writing off anything else involving Epic when/if they reached out to me, but there was something about his email that made me inclined to respond. So, I sat down and wrote him a very detailed and lengthy timeline and explanation of everything that went on. The response I received from him went above and beyond what I could've ever imagined. It was one of the most sincere, professional, and truly caring interactions I've ever had with a business. We ended up speaking on the phone for quite some time where he really took the time to understand not only what went wrong, but how and why it went wrong. This wasn't a conversation filled with empty and scripted apologies. This was a businessman who took responsibility where appropriate - not out of obligation because I left a poor review - but out of a sense of caring about the customer and striving to have a genuinely great company and process. The issue with the UCC filing ("lien") is unfortunately tied to our solar loan, but fees were reimbursed and it sounds like they've done their own further research and passed along clarification and education to their employees on this aspect of getting solar, so that it does not happen again in the future. Additionally, Nate again followed up to show me a three page PDF list of the entire solar install process, from start to finish, that really breaks everything down step by step in a clear and concise manner. It was something I had suggested as feedback during our phone conversation but was surprised to see that it was actually put into action! He says it will be circulated to all future Epic customers, and based on my own personal experience, I believe it will truly help alleviate many of the issues that I personally ran into. At the end of the day, my install process was much more difficult than it should've been and wasn't perfect. However, the response from Epic and plan for future customers that they are in the process of implementing makes me feel very confident that anyone choosing Epic for themselves will have a much better experience than I did. Thank you Nate for resolving this fiasco so professionally and timely. You are an excellent businessman. read more

Do not use Epic Energies (www.ThinkEpic.com). They are fine to work with when things go well, but as soon as problems occur, they are evasive, they lie to you, or just give you the silent treatment. They do not stand behind the quality of their work, or their warrantees, and really, they are thieves. We hired Epic to do a large job (our new-to-us house was a bit of a teardown). They were to replace the roof, the windows, the missing stucco on half the house, and install solar. All this was financed through the PACE program. As part of the project, they originally planned to move our electrical box from the front of the house to the back. This was a $4300 item, small in the scheme of things, but important in the end. Beware the estimate these people give you. They did not come in on budget for any single item. First they replaced the windows, a project they subbed out to Good News Remodeling. Good News gets five stars from us. They were prompt and kept in constant contact with us, and installed in two days. Unfortunately, Epic demanded more money for the windows than they original estimated, because we live in a high fire area, and they quoted us for standard windows. Next they did the roof. Again, they came back to us for more money, because there were three layers of roofing that needed to be removed, instead of just one. Despite this, we were pleased with the work. Then they started on the solar. This went smoothly, at first. It was at this point that they determined that they would not need to move the electrical box for code. Instead, they said would build some structure that would hide the electrical box. So they did not remove the item from our contract. However, they could not install the solar electrical equipment until the stucco was finished. This is when things started going badly. The first day the stucco guys showed up and did a skim coat on the first wall. But then they disappeared. They didn't show up for a week, without explanation. Jeri in Epic's scheduling department couldn't seem to tell us where they were or when they would come back. Eventually, Max, our sales rep, told us they would need more money. They refused to do anything about the electrical box. During this time, Max went through some family issues, and was generally not available to deal with all the myriad problems with the stucco guys. When he got back, he was very anxious about completing the work before the end of the year, or more accurately, he wanted me to sign off on the job before it was completed, so that he could get paid. Epic submitted the completion documents just as soon as the solar was hooked up. But they submitted it for the wrong amount. So I spoke with Max about this. He told me that they will just give us a rebate for the $4300 so that we could hire someone to disguise the hideous electrical box. Max claimed he has a contractor who would do that for me. (Turns out, he didn't). So we signed the documents. After about a month, I asked why we hadn't gotten our rebate yet. Max told me I wasn't due a rebate. But after a bit of arguing, Max remembered our conversation about the rebate, and that I am correct. I start waiting for my check again. Another month passes. On March 5th, Max texts that Epic had prepared the rebate and that they will process the check. On March 19th I ask again. Now I'm told that Parker Daniels had prepared the documents. Must be my fault. I should check in my junk mail. On March 22nd, Parker Daniels finally sends the document. On April 13th, still no check. Max texts on the 16th that it is going to be sent. On April 23rd, I contact Max again. Still no check. I call Epic directly. I'm told to discuss it with Max. As all this is going on, the stucco begins to crack. And each week, it gets a little worse. On May 2nd, I text photos of the cracks to Max and directly to Epic. I talk to some guy at Epic, who promises me that he will talk to the hire ups immediately and call me back within an hour, and they will send out someone to fix everything. He never calls back. The next day, Max says Jeri will call by Monday to schedule a stucco inspection. He tells me to contact Parker Daniels directly. I call Daniels, He does not answer his phone or return my calls. Max says to text him. I do. Tell him the whole story, he says he'll "get with his accounts payable team and see how that was missed. Once the check is placed in the mail I'll send you the tracking information." Surprise, surprise, no followup. No check. No stucco inspection. Not even an apology. On May 7th, Max confessed. He says this is his fault, that he miscommunicated to Epic. So Epic won't pay until they take the money out of his earnings. I haven't heard anything since. Stay away. These people are thieves. They do not honor their warrantees. Their workmanship is lousy. And they treat their customers terribly. read more

Everything went well with the installation. I gave the 5 stars at that time. HOWEVER, we had our solar panels cleaned last October and were told that some paint had spattered on some of the panels. The house painting company said they were willing to clean them but did not know what might be used to safely do so and advised me to try to find out the manufacturer so they could research. For the past 4 months, I have tried numerous times, at least a dozen times, to contact Epic to get the answer. Email, phone calls, drove to an address that was now empty space and another that was just a mailbox service. I give up. No one has ever had the courtesy to respond to any phone message or email. read more

We used Epic Energy to do our roof as a subcontractor of SunRun to install solar. The short of it is that Epic completely redid our roof and completely ruined it. We have new leaks in places we have never had leaks, even with a 30 year old roof. We have had to get it repaired multiple times and we've only had the roof for a few months. They didn't do certain things to code. They left aspects of the roof completely unfinished. Do not use this company. read more

Epic Energy had been contacting me via phone and text daily for a few weeks, with no response from me. They said that my insurance company sent them. I did not respond to their request to inspect my roof, because my actual insurance adjuster told me when I asked about it, that NO ONE from my insurance company actually referred this company to me. He said it sounds like a scam. The terrible Yelp reviews also deterred me from wanting to work with them. They aren't even in my area, they're located a couple hours away. I ignored the calls and texts.... Today, a representative SHOWED UP AT MY HOUSE unannounced asking to take pictures! I wasn't home, so my roommate handed the phone to the woman. She was reluctant to even tell me the name of the contractor she worked for, she just kept trying to tell me my insurance company sent her. She couldn't tell me even WHAT damage she was supposed to be photographing, nor could she tell me exactly WHO from my insurance company referred them to me. I told her I'd call them if I wanted to work with them but I'm not interested right now, and she left. She told my roommate she drove a couple hours to get there. This is so bizarre; I never confirmed any appointment or responded to any communication with them! I honestly don't know how they got my information or my address. This experience weirded me out! I've never in my life had a company be THIS AGGRESSIVE trying to get my business. The marketing tactics are CREEPY. I guess they have to resort to borderline harassment of people that aren't even local to try and get business since their reviews are so poor! read more

Beware their support for existing customers is lackluster. We purchased a roof, solar, battery, and HVAC system 4 years ago. and we were not given a clear understanding of our warranties. I called recently because our furnace wasn't working, and the customer service manager curtly explained to me their blanket warranty policies on installation being separate from the manufacturer's warranty, and referred me to manufacturer. This was a bit confusing, and she was not willing to produce or send me any of what she was saying in writing, which was frustrating and overall not a very supportive experience. I know they have changed ownership since our installation, so maybe they don't have good records, but even the new owners should own the liability of existing customers. read more

Epic replaced our long overdue roof. It was a big job on a small house in San Francisco, so required coordination with neighbors. They were very commutative, flexible, and hard working. I couldn't be happier with the experience of working with them. read more

The roof looks good, but soooo much gone wrong. First of all, these people seem to think it's ok to show up at any time without an appointment or notice. The salesman stopped by without notice because I hadn't signed the contract. He then followed me into our office and stood over my shoulder and told me what to check and sign without me being able to read it. Was I surprised the next day on what I signed!!!! Coercion is not ok. Mind you the roof was completed the Tuesday after memorial Day and we still don't have a final inspection (6/30). They showed up Today without notice or permission, while we were gone and came onto our property to do some priming of plywood. We first noticed white stuff in some standing water and couldn't figure out what it was. We then figured Out they had come in, painted, over painted, splattered paint and washed paint brushes in our landscape. The whole house will need to be painted. Also, I'm not sure what size nails they use, but the are at least a half inch longer than the plywood, looks like crap! There are holes in our gutter from the pitch fork they used to remove the roof. Their customer service and follow through are very bad at best. Their prices are good, but beware, you get what you pay for. read more

They damaged our skylight and garden beds, and initially had said they would reimburse us or install a new skylight and reimburse for the garden bed damage, but no they completely ghosted us and stopped responding. I have called them over 10-15 time and have sent at least 10 emails across 9 months! I cannot believe this unprofessionalism. read more

Meant to write this a couple months ago, but better late than never! We hired the Epic Energy team to replace an old wood-shingle roof on a custom home with very tough angles and steep pitches and then tasked them with getting enough solar power to the home without adding any panels to the front of the roof (an extremely difficult task, but essential in our opinion for aesthetics). Mission Impossible? Not for them. First, we got four price quotes from multiple roofing companies, and all (including Epic) were very close to each other, so it came down to timing and quality. We were immediately impressed with Epic's sales team AND they were the only company that could do both the roof itself and the full solar installation (all others would have required contracting with two different companies). They were also able to get started and stick to a much tighter schedule than any of the other companies that bid. All of this was a huge plus. As for the actual installation? We couldn't be happier! The roof looks amazing (see pictures) and the solar panels were carefully installed and look about as great as panels can (at least they're not on the front of the house!). Epic also made the hookup process very easy and straightforward (in terms of interconnection with PG&E and communication was excellent before, during and after the installation). Probably our only complaint (and it's a very minor one) was that the tear-off of the original roof created a massive mess (somewhat expected) that took us personally a few weeks to completely clean (i.e. we continued to find shingle pieces, nails, wood splinters, sharp cut metal pieces, etc.) in our bushes, grass and yard areas, which can be a real problem with kids and/or dogs running around (or any barefoot adult). However, some of that is to be expected and, again, it's a minor inconvenience compared to how happy with are with Epic's work. Highly recommend them for both roof and solar installations!!! read more

Just recently purchased solar and AC unit. They did a great job on the AC. The only thing is trying to get customer service to answer questions is difficult. I have a generac power system and I am trying to set up the internet. They left no instructions to power up unit and have no internet signal on my unit to monitor usage. It's been almost 2 months and been waiting for somebody to reach out via call text email. Seems like they got the sale and on to the next one. Just need somebody to take care of business. read more

We recently had a roof placed by Epic Engery and are happy with their service and our roof. The rep, Jeri, let me know when the process was going to start and then be completed. The gentleman who placed the roof, Raymond, was professional and personable. After the old roof was removed, Ray explained to both me and my husband the steps he needed to do to complete the process. Because of delays (not Epic Energy's fault), the second half of the roof wasn't completed until three months later. The process is complete, the roof passed inspection, and we are happy with our new roof! Thank you Jeri and Ray. read more

****AVOID THIS CONTRACTOR**** aside from the sales rep (Adam), who is very responsive and tries his best to assist--this contractor is horrible!!! I used them for a roof and HVAC project. It's been a never ending headache. The roof workers would either no show, work for a few hours, or stop for days without any communication. The PM (AJ) rarely communicated and never knows where his crew is at. Additionally, they put multiple dents in my gutters. After several issues with the PM, I had to try and get a hold of someone in charge. The company tried to make it right by offering to fixing my gutters and offering me additional warranty. But I really just want this nightmare over. The hvac team was great. In and out in one day. We are now two months into my contract and I'm still trying to get this project closed. My roof did not pass city inspection due to an hvac pipe that needs corrections. I've been having to do multiple follow ups. Again, I am waiting on the PM to get a crew out to fix this so the city can come back. Ughhhhh....do not give this contractor your business!! read more

Addendum: Since posting the below review, I've had a lengthy conversation, with one of the owners of Epic Energy, Nate. We discussed each stage of the work completed on my home back in June of this year. We narrowed down the issues and agreed most of the problems were do to lack of communication between the office staff and field workers. During this conversation I was assured that many changes have been made to correct these issues over the past several months. I am confident that Nate has taken the proper steps to make the Epic Energy Family create a more cohesive and client friendly experience for all. He even offered to let me ride along and see for myself. We talked about the $250 prize for the drawing for those who post feedback for the company. It seems that they were trying to encourage people to leave honest feedback regarding their experience with the company. I felt that it might encourage people with no integrity to leave feedback just to win a prize. I was not my intention to make anyone believe that the company had no integrity. Last but certainly not least, in all fairness I will admit that Travis may have felt less than welcome in our home. My little Bichon dog Bentley, bit Travis on the leg when he entered our house. Horrible company.. they scam and are a bunch of thieves after fully paid a year later they're asking for more money after trying to scam us for 1.9k I seemed legal counsel and they told me their practices are not legal epic claimed it was an "error" my insurance company even called them scammers. A year later they're trying to bill us $977 for some made up term. Their contractors were beyond unprofessional. The leader brought his underage daughter to clean as some punishment , then their leader peed on the side of the house by a window while my underage family was here. They threw parts of the roof in the back yard, not to mention getting disrespectful when asked what they did to our ac because it wasn't working right after they left. They didn't hook up some pipe. Epic energy is by far one of the worst companies I've ever encountered. Save yourself the trouble because they'll make up excuses to raise your estimate are 1.9 k fix need up being 6.9k fix and they're STILL trying to charge us more. Here is a detailed list of the issues we have had with Epic for our roof that was installed in August 2022. Before Christmas, Parker from Epic did determine that they did not correctly charge us (we overpaid) for the removal of two layers of roof, when we only had one layer of roofing, they charged us for OSB decking squares for the whole roof, when our house already had OSB under the existing roof, and there was a separate line item for OSB that needed replacement due to dry rot. They also charged us to remove and replace the fascia on one area of the house, only they didn't replace that fascia as evidenced by pre-existing hardware on the fascia. We still have yet to receive repayment for our overpayment to them as of 3/9/23. They were a subcontractor under Sunrun; otherwise I would have ensured that the invoice was accurate before paying. Additionally, A. When the roof was replaced, the existing, professionally-installed, rodent barriers were removed and were not reinstalled. We detected rats in the attic due to a 2"x2" hole left between flashing and the fascia in the valley between the sunroom and the kitchen, above the kitchen window. There is also a hole chewed in one of the boards adjacent to this hole. The space was inaccessible before the roof was replaced. B. There was roofing debris in the solatubes in our family room. C. They left the electrical attached to our house with a rope tied around the for the roofing inspection. It should have been taken care of before the inspection and lead to an issue with SMUD where they served us a 10 day notice of de-electrification. D. There should have been a credit on the invoice for a table that broke during the roof installation. It was not listed on the invoice. I thought I remembered that it was $200, but when I spoke with AJ, he said the credit was $500. E. Whenever I spoke with AJ, his tone was sexist and chauvinistic. I don't believe he would have spoken the same way to my husband, however, I was the one who was home during the roof installation and I am also fairly well versed in construction and I know my house well. To be clear, I did not have this issue with the other people who were working on the roof. F. The worksite was left very sloppy: nails and debris everywhere: both outside and in our garage. They frequently blew debris around with a leaf blower, so it was going straight into the garage through gaps between boards. It was noticeably messier than our next door neighbors' house, whose roof was being replaced at the same time as ours. When I brought up my concerns about the sloppy worksite, AJ started disparaging the neighbors' roofers, cockily proclaiming that [the neighbors] were installing an inferior product to the product that Epic was installing. We also had to have them come out multiple (5, I think) times after completion of the roof to pick up the nails. After the first rain, we determined the gutters had not been cleaned prior to reattaching the gutter guards-we found debris and nails at the bottom of the downspouts. G. There was a 5 gallon jug on the peak of the roof over our sunroom. The roof was exposed (OSB, no shingles) and water was coming through the roof to the floor of our sunroom. When I looked outside, the men working up there were using the water to wash their faces and hands. They couldn't hear me yelling that the water was coming into our house. I called AJ and he told me that the men had spilled a 16 oz plastic bottle of water and that "it wouldn't have come into our house if there was an attic below." Overall, 1 star because, to our knowledge, the roof hasn't leaked with all the rain.​ read more

Do not use this company for window replacement. We ordered 35 windows for our home, paid cash. We ordered all windows to be side to side opening, picture windows or crank outs. Six of the windows opened up and down. We were very clear what we wanted. No contract was given to us except the bill for 35 windows. It was their error. So much of their error they changed the the policy on how they actually write contracts across the company. Despite their error, the solution...please give us $3000 more dollars and we will make your windows right. read more

I hired Epic Energy to do my solar panels before the 30% tax benefit expired in 2019. I signed the contract in July and the panels were installed October 1, they were activated October 15. We couldn't be happier with our solar panels and they get 5 stars for this alone. I however also used them for an attached sunroom demolition and patio cover installation at the rear of my house to assist with the cooling cost of the house since I get the afternoon sun back there. I was happy with the work all the way up until we started getting rain. Unfortunately, the flashing where the patio cover connects to the house is a bit haphazard and caused rainwater to run underneath my homes exterior vinyl siding panels and saturate the wood panels underneath. Also a downspout from the upper roofline was removed during construction and not replaced causing further leaks from the water run-off and I am now having water leaking from the center of the patio cover, presumably around the seams, which is concerning because they installed two electric ceiling fans. Additionally, I had requested the installation of two electrical outlets, the plastic conduit for the outlets was never sealed or secured to the wall and easily comes apart if bumped into. I'm currently paying a guy to do what Epic Energys' guy should have done and was paid to do. I would definitely promote this company for solar panel installation but I wish I had used a certified installer for my patio cover. read more

I deeply regret hiring this company to replace my roof. Lack of communication. It's like pulling teeth to get straight answers. What few answers I get are ALWAYS vague. Which leads to me having to ask more questions. No respect for clients time. Damage has been done to my ceiling. Had the roof for 2 months. This company has given me nothing but grief. Yes I got warrantee. Once contract signed you can't get out. They talk a good game, but actions speak louder than words. There actions are severely lacking. read more

Make sure to take BEFORE pictures of EVERYTHING! Had the roof done and it rained while the roof was open (not the only house it happened to that day)...they didn't tarp anywhere. Process of installing new roof caused nails throughout the house to start protruding through the paint and texturing, some drywall sagging on areas that got wet, concrete broken where lift used to place shingles on roof had set the stabilizers and nothing but the run around with my concerns. Workers couldn't space the shingles evenly and they have some bubbling...not material defects! They couldn't even cut a straight line, luckily the flashing will cover the gaps in the corners where they didn't cut the wood straight. Only one guy on the crew seemed halfway decent, and I think his damn wife was up there when the rest of the crew wasn't! If you have the equity just refinance your house and get a reliable contractor to do the work. read more

So, I have to say Hats off to these folks! Very professional, friendly (key), clean and spot on with the budget. Jared and his team are great to work with and even with some hiccups that presented themselves, they overcame them and were just plain, awesome. The crew that was at my home, was clean, funny, polite, respectful and took time to explain what they were doing and why. Never had to worry about anything at all, they took charge and rocked it! Dealing with Epic Energy on my new roof was an outstanding experience. Jeri in the office was always available to take my calls and answer questions. Adrian and Robert on my job were also excellent. They cleaned up everyday and made the yard spotless of debris when they left. The communication was excellent. They regularly called me to update me on the start date of my job and any weather delays. (we did this in the winter where we get snow!) It all started with their salesman Keith. He was very good explaining everything to me and no hardcore sales pitch! Very outstanding experience and an extremely fair price!! read more

Epic Energy installed our new roof. It looks really nice. There was a few problems along the way. They said replacing the eves wasn't in our contract. But after we had a roof leak because they didn't replace the flashing. They came out and installed new flashings and eves. Then we had to call back to have them remove the waste lumber and extra shingles off the lawn. We were supposed to get a 30 year manufacture warranty for the roof, and a 10 year parts and labor warranty. I called them today and they try to tell us we have a 50 year manufacture warranty and NO parts and labor warranty. Where do I begin. My wife decided to go through this company she found online which was an absolute mistake. The solar is up and running on our rental after MONTHS of installation and back and forth with the office gals. Amanda seems to know what she is talking about and is kind but this other woman Jeri is insanely rude! She talks down to my wife, never lets anyone talk and doesn't know a thing about solar. Everything she told my wife was the complete opposite of what Amanda had relayed to us and absolutely incorrect. How is this woman in charge of this company? She is ignorant, rude and doesn't know a thing about customer service. We paid an arm and a leg for their service, they could have atleast treated us with some respect. This is the absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced. Because they installed my solar I am stuck staying with them, it will void my warranty If any other installer does the work. They don't tell you that when you buy the equipment or set it up, so beware everyone before having Epic install your equipment. first off I had to wait about three months just for them to get the inverter I need . I got two messages, one on January 18 saying they had room to install my equipment the very next day on the 19th. But I was out of the state, so when I got back, I gave them a call. That was January 20 I left 11 messages and on January 30. I finally got a callback. Ryan acted like I was the bad guy because I was out of town on the two days that he called on the 18th and 19th I l called back and then no response again. when I returned their phone call again all you get is a recording saying that all representatives are busy. It's the absolute worst and the manager Jerry is absolutely no help either. She tried reading all the contact points... but nowhere in there does she take responsibility for no one calling me back in almost 2 weeks. Even if he left all the messages in the world on the 18th and 19th there's no excuse for not calling me back after 11 messages and almost 2 weeks time. If I could change installers, I would do it in a heartbeat.
