    The ride up the gondola.
    Terri E.

Epic Discovery has a big list of adventures to discover in gorgeous Vail. We were in town for a conference and the scenic gondola ride was a sponsored event for all guests. The nice part of the gondola ride is you can use it all day. The view once you get to the top is breathtaking. Lots of photo opportunity. On this particular day, we couldn't decide on which activity we wanted to try out. Ziplining and the rope course were high on the list. Unfortunately, the $35 Golden Eagle zipline option was not available due to renovations. The only other zipline option was the $199 Game Creek Zipline Tour which would take 3.5 hours. Big difference in cost and time. We asked about doing the rope course and were told you could not purchase this a la carte but rather it was inclusive in the "package" deals. We didn't understand how they could offer majority of the adventures a la carte but this was not an option unless you bought the big package. So both answers killed our excitement to try the adventures we really wanted to do. Since we were limited, we actually considered the $199 zipline package. The salesperson let us know that we could apply our $36 gondola ride ticket towards the purchase of the $199 zipline package. So that was a bit helpful in a discount. This option could also be applied towards the other unlimited package options. This sounded more enticing. So we decided to go for it and do the $199 ziplining. It's not every day you're in beautiful Vail ziplining over the scenic everything. Come to find out, since we had the group gondola ticket, they could not apply that discount. Really?!? After that whole pitch, we decided to just jump ship and pay the $199 full price for ziplining. Guess what? Our salesperson literally just sold the very last ticket for the day, literally 10 minutes prior. So frustrating!!! They were not winning our business on this day or even really trying to accommodate. So we just threw in the towel and didn't do anything. Such a bummer! And a turnoff too. The reason they got 4 stars is their activity options were very cool. We get that things happen or might not go the way we want but damn, it really sucked that we ended up doing none of the activities. Other than the gondola ride which was offered through the conference. We really didn't fell like dishing out money for activities that were just "eh" to us or not as appealing. Anyway, here is some more in depth information and prices for all the activities they offer. FUN at 10,350 feet... and up! We just returned from an awesome family vacation in and around Wyoming, Utah and Colorado. In Vail, CO, family friends met up with us, and we had a great time together over several days. The other family has visited Colorado before and is familiar with skiing and with taking the gondolas up during warmer months, too. So they recommended that we do just that - take the tram to the top and walk / hike around Vail Mountain, which we now know is in the White River National Forest. Work travel had me flying over the Rockies many times, during all seasons. So I knew before this trip that some mountains had snow during most of the year. I just hadn't remembered seeing mountains with snow by time late July and August rolled around... not in the lower 48. But we learned a week earlier, in Wyoming that some of their mountains are snow-capped year round. While most of the snow had melted, there were a few patches that were lingering just long enough for us to enjoy them... and it was almost July. That was neat! After we got away from the village at the top of the tram, we hiked along a couple trails... beautiful scenery through the trees. We took a trail for a mile and a half or so and then had lunch at 10,100 feet. We took another trail back, and that was a bit harder, as it was uphill and climbed above 10,700 feet in elevation. Both trails were really pretty, through open fields and through trees. We even saw a few deer along the way. As we got back to where we started, the kids all rode the Forest Flyer toboggan / roller coaster. They all had a blast! After we got to the bottom, we relaxed, and snacked at a cafe. With our lift tickets allowing rides through the day, our daughter and I rode the gondola up and back down, again a couple times, just for fun. We had the gondola to ourselves, so we each had our own bench and laid down, looking up through the partial-glass ceiling at the clouds and the sky - peaceful! That was really relaxing. Back at the cafe, our son and I had a lot of fun playing frisbee in some grass that was right there. That was fun! We definitely had a great time, at the base, and especially at the top of the Vail tram - we recommend a visit, to experience the beauty of Vail!

Very cool place only issue couldn't figure out where the ticket office was since the sign above said Gondola not Epic Discovery.

$375 for family of five to ride 3 rides. Because of weather things got shut down too. The coaster is fun though.

It's definitely a large operation. Check in for us involved a 100 people or so. But they've got it down. Don't plan to bring much/anything with you honestly. You can choose wet suits, dry jackets etc... It was 75 degrees in July here so our family split between wet suits and dry jackets. The latter was the better choice. You take a 30 minute school bus ride and some quick safety instructions (thanks Erico!) And then get assigned to your boat. Ours included 8 of us and a guide. Honestly that was too much but okay. Our guide was Tristan who was fantastic. Funny and engaging with fun facts along the way. But more importantly you could tell he was taking safety seriously. We did the browns canyon ride and it was a good mix of slightly challenging for the kids and fun for the adults. All in all it was a great way to spend half a day!

And it was made extra special to do it with our family and little ones. We bought the unlimited day pass (ask for a military discount!). More than anyone, my father-in-law and I myself got our fill of the coaster - definitely our favorite ride! I liked it more than the alpine slide because your seat is actually attached to the ride instead of being a sled that could potentially come off (I guess I'm a worrier :P). This thing can go pretty darn fast! But you've got a set of brakes to slow down whenever you want. So customizable and perfect! This is my kind of coast!! Not to the mention the beautiful view all around you the whole time. Kids - different rides have different requirements. Some you have to be 30 pounds, some 30 inches, others 35 inches or 38 inches. My almost three year old is big enough for all. He tried the coaster with my husband and said it made him dizzy (I'm sure my husband took it pretty fast lol). But he loved the alpine slide - enough to ride it twice! For the slide, the break is between your legs. He wanted to hold onto this because it totally made him feel like he was in charge. Little did he know, I was definitely the one controlling it. My son also really enjoyed paying for gold, mini golf and the bounce house. I'm really hoping we visit again next summer so we can come here!

Fun Alpine Slide, but poor communication, long waits, and very poor value…read more I visited Epic Discovery at Breckenridge with my two boys on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. The gondola from town was great, and the Alpine Slide itself was fun once we finally got to do it. Unfortunately, the overall experience was frustrating and did not feel worth the price. The biggest issue was communication. When we got off the gondola at Peak 8, there were employees around, but nobody greeted us or explained where to go. We walked to the Alpine Slide line, waited, and only when we reached the front were told we needed wristbands first. We then had to find the ticketing area, where it was not obvious that we first needed to complete a paper waiver before buying tickets. We bought three-activity wristbands for about $72 per person. After that, we waited again for the Alpine Slide. One of my sons met the height requirement and was wearing closed-toe, closed-heel rubber shoes because of a recent foot injury. Two employees initially tried to tell us the shoes were not allowed, even though they met the posted closed-toe requirement. A supervisor eventually confirmed they were acceptable, but it was frustrating and unnecessary. The chairlift to the top was extremely slow, and once we got there we discovered that only one of the three Alpine Slide tracks was operating. Nobody told us that before we bought tickets, got in line, or boarded the lift. The wait at the top was long, hot, and mostly unshaded, with no water and very little communication. The boys enjoyed the actual Alpine Slide and wanted to ride again, but when we got back down and tried to re-enter the line, we were told it was closing early because of work/surveying being done on the slide. Again, nobody had disclosed that earlier. We then tried to use the wristbands for another activity, but the remaining lines were also long, hot, and unshaded, so we left. For roughly $72 per person, we realistically got one Alpine Slide ride. The activity itself was fun, but the operations, signage, staff communication, and value were disappointing. Breckenridge is priced like a premium experience, but this did not feel like one. I would not recommend Epic Discovery based on this visit.

Keep in mind that we were instructed to arrive 30 minutes early, so in total we were standing around for about an hour. They had also called us the day before and asked if we could move our tour time from noon to 1 PM. Looking back, agreeing to that change seems like it just resulted in us waiting even longer. On the zip lines, you have to brake yourself by grabbing the line with one of the gloves they provide. The gloves were old, worn-out welding gloves. I had to exchange mine three different times because they all had holes in them. Even my final pair still had a hole, but I was told it was fine. The zip lines themselves were okay. There was supposed to be a drop at the end, but apparently it wasn't open for the season yet, so instead we were slowly lowered down. As for the scenery, I honestly wasn't very impressed. The views felt fairly average to me and looked like a typical desert landscape. Considering the price, I expected something a lot more memorable. I've done a cheaper zip line course in Virginia that I found more fun, with better views and a better overall experience. The cherry on top was being accused of smoking marijuana because of a supposed smell and "glossy eyes." I have never smoked in my life, so that accusation was pretty frustrating and left a bad impression on what was already a disappointing experience. Overall, I felt this experience was a complete waste of money. Between the delays, worn-out equipment, missing attractions, and the accusation from staff, I honestly wish I had never booked it in the first place.

There were some rapids that were very exciting, and the water was really cold, but it was funny for everyone else when I was getting soaked in the front. The water is COLD, but you get used to it pretty quickly. The rapids relaxed down in about 10 minutes, and it was a pretty smooth ride for the rest of journey. The total trip was about an hour and a half, which is a good time for younger kids. David was a great guide, and he was funny and entertaining, yet knowledgeable and passionate about many things adventure. He trained everyone in the raft the do-s and don't-s of rafting, and made sure everyone was prepared in case of emergency. He showed the techniques of how to maneuver the raft, and how to 'rescue' your buddy if they fell in. We had ages 7-57 in our group, and it was fun for everyone. If you are a beginner or have younger, more senior people in your group, I would suggest a level 1-2 experience. If you have a group of more confident, or medium-good physically fit people who like a bit more adventurous time, I would suggest a higher level of rapids. The rest of the staff in the office were very friendly, and the office and amenities were clean and organized. They had changing rooms, and clean guest bathrooms complete with showers if you so desire. They have free lockboxes for you to leave your keys or other valuables if you need. They offered picture packages, but allowed you to take whatever devices you wanted on the raft.
