From entering the door, we were greeted by every employee who saw us. We had a short wait in line late weekday morning when Kevin helped us. He listened patiently to the predicament the other location put us in. He also did not have the same model that we reserved but based on his listening skills, he knew another model would be a perfect fit for us. A short wait in the waiting room, he had a clean car ready for us. I am extremely satisfied with the service and rental. We even received a follow up call asking if the rental was as expected. The staff is always friendly and laid back. They don't seem to have the high volume of other rent-a-car places so they can concentrate on each customer. The service station employee, RJ, was incredibly late (open time: 8:00 AM, showed up 8:20 AM), rolling in to a parking spot at top speed, not apologizing to us or to the other employee waiting outside (who had arrived on time but who didn't have a key to unlock the door), not making eye contact, and then ignoring us at the counter until he was done doing whatever he was doing. They also didn't have the vehicle that I specifically asked about during my initial call, and then confirmed at my second call, and then received a confirmation from them when they called me stating the vehicle would be ready and available for me. I called Geico, the insurance company that arranged for the rental, and they were able to escalate and reach someone higher up at Hertz (a district manager named Axel) to get me in the vehicle I was to receive initially. He arranged to have the vehicle ready the same day but it needed to picked up before they closed, so I had to leave work from DC early to get to their location on time and swap out the one they gave me. That interaction was better with the other employee RJ, but the district manager Axel was there too but he didn't bother apologizing or even making eye contact. They also take up tons of parking spots as storage for their rentals, which is super rude since there are dozens of other businesses, so there's rarely any parking. Overall, a huge hassle. I would not recommend this location.

I had already driven up (and back) to NYC in my Volvo station wagon, thinking that would work.... NOT! My wagon was way too small. So, to avoid a repeat of my first trip to NYC to pickup my painting, I started my search for the right vehicle several days before 4/28. I initially tried the Autopark location on Outlet Dr. in Silver Spring, armed with my tape measure, to locate a vehicle to pick up my painting in. The manager at the Outlet location was absolutely wonderful and sooo.... patient. He went above and beyond. He walked me around to all of the vehicles he hoped would work and helped me measure the openings to see what, if any, vehicle he had on hand would actually work. WOW! His customer service! His patience! Fabulous! Ultimately, nothing was large enough. He did NOT just apologize and send me on my way - he took me back to the office, pulled up larger vehicles in the system he guaranteed would work, AND made a reservation for me then and there (to preserve the excellent rate he found for me!!). He sent me on to this, the Laurel location. EVERYONE at the Laurel location was so helpful, so friendly, so accommodating. Just WONDERFUL! -- Tess and the whole staff! Thanks guys! He promised he would hold that vehicle for me with the hope it would be returned in time for me to get on the road up to NYC. FINALLY! Something worked out! The smaller van was returned on time, Tess et al. saved it for me, and I was on my way to NYC in the more manageable van in time for my pickup appt! Yaaayy! My rental worked out perfectly! Everything from identifying the best vehicle to meet my needs, to driving up to NYC,getting my larger than expected painting into the van, driving back to the DMV, and turning in the van the early morning on 4/29... I was rushed through looking over the vehicle. The car had service light on. Agent cleared it but I checked the engine later the oil had not been changed nor was there any windshield fluid. There were dead bees and wasp through out the car. Vehicle had not been properly clean either. All that said, the vehicle ran fine. I may rent again in the future but I will call ahead to make sure the car is ready.
