Unprofessional and incredibly disappointing service, which is consistent with the experiences of other reviewers. The service station employee, RJ, was incredibly late (open time: 8:00 AM, showed up 8:20 AM), rolling in to a parking spot at top speed, not apologizing to us or to the other employee waiting outside (who had arrived on time but who didn't have a key to unlock the door), not making eye contact, and then ignoring us at the counter until he was done doing whatever he was doing. They also didn't have the vehicle that I specifically asked about during my initial call, and then confirmed at my second call, and then received a confirmation from them when they called me stating the vehicle would be ready and available for me. I called Geico, the insurance company that arranged for the rental, and they were able to escalate and reach someone higher up at Hertz (a district manager named Axel) to get me in the vehicle I was to receive initially. He arranged to have the vehicle ready the same day but it needed to picked up before they closed, so I had to leave work from DC early to get to their location on time and swap out the one they gave me. That interaction was better with the other employee RJ, but the district manager Axel was there too but he didn't bother apologizing or even making eye contact. They also take up tons of parking spots as storage for their rentals, which is super rude since there are dozens of other businesses, so there's rarely any parking. Overall, a huge hassle. The facility has a rancid smell in it, and the associates have no ability to keep their word when it comes to contracts. My car was towed because they lacked to put the dates on the tag and they did not accommodate me with the rental when I had to miss work due to the rental getting towed because of their inability to follow state guidelines. They had the nerve to tell me to argue with my HOA like they were the issue!! No HERTZ you are the issue! Own up to your mistake and pay for it too! They literally told me they would assist, but I have assisted with nothing. I do not recommend this place at all. Literally couldn't breathe in the hertz store it was honestly so disgusting that it needs to be checked out by upper management. They decide to tell me when I arrive that they have no cars available.... When I have a 10 hour car ride the next day. Extremely unprofessional when they had all week to call me & I would've booked somewhere where they actually had a vehicle. Then they push me off to the side & start to help other people. I made a comment then the lady & guy finally decided to speak to me & help me. Then they magically say they have a car for me... and on top of that that they "upgraded" me.... Staff seemed surprised that not having any cars available might be a problem. I rent often and this rental location is the only one that can't figure out how to provide you with a car at the time you reserved it for. Great customer experience from Manager Axel and Samuel in January, 2021. Due to the pandemic I'm not comfortable with flying (although a frequent traveler) and haven't seen my elderly mother since June, 2019 who needed help. I decided to drive after receiving an email from Hertz that they implemented "Gold Standard Clean Seal"- no one else goes into the vehicle after it has been cleaned. This was my first time renting from this location so I called to see if they had the Toyota Camry available which is the vehicle I typically drive when renting from Hertz. It was then I found out from Samuel there was a recall on them. He said they had Nissan Ultima or Chevy Malibu which is my least favorite vehicles to drive as the ride is not smooth and poor placement of features. Samuel said he would have to ask his manager Axel for approval of other vehicles they had cause they're inventory was low. Axel so kindly approved and put me in a 2020 Ford Escape. First time driving the redesigned model. It was a perfect vehicle for this long drive. Smooth comfortable ride with good placement of features for a safe road trip. I enjoyed every moment. I appreciate the care and concern Samuel and Axel took with my situation along with fast check out to get me on my way. It's service like this makes me a loyal Hertz member. I arrived early to pick up the rental at 5 pm. I was greeted by a woman associate who said they were closed/closing. When I told her, I had a reservation for 5 pm. She looked surprised and confused, and invited me in. I showed her the email confirmation from about two weeks ago and the email reminder from yesterday. She said they didn't have the type of vehicle (a pickup truck) I reserved and reminded me they were closed. She referred me to another location about 20 minutes away. When I asked if that location would honor the reservation, vehicle type and price, she didn't know. Her attitude started to unravel as I asked more questions. She became very nasty and left the office. A woman manager who appeared from the back stepped in to assist. She was kind, accommodating and knowledgeable. But they still were unable to honor the reservation (vehicle type, price and pickup/drop off time). Hertz/Thrifty needs to do a better job at providing their customers with the correct information about inventory, availability and hours when we book the reservation. The people at the location should not be confused about why a reservation was allowed. I can define understand the low 2 start rating. They got caught on a lie and cursed at me as a result. The online reservation was "incorrect" according to them yet the paperwork and online reservation was confirmed for today's date. They were willing to help another female customer after hours but when 5 o'clock came, they called the police to have me removed and lied on both the phone and to the officers when they arrived. I can now understand why all those people went to jail because Hertz couldn't do there job. Do yourself a favor and avoid these unprofessional and apathetic employees at all cost. She just directed me to swipe my credit card to pay for my purchase which was incorrect and COMPLETELY different from the online reservation I made . My card declined 3x because the price was way over my credit card limit which I would've known if she communicated the SUBTOTAL to me , even when my card declined she said NOTHING she still did not even tell me that ... she just stared at me and watched me swipe my card several times until the black male with the Locs & nose piercing had to rudely interject and tell Karen that she was handling everything wrong . My reservation clearly stated it was a set price for any level car, including electric. Car selection was company's choice. When I arrived, the Hertz employee said he cancelled my reservation because no cars were available. Minutes later I saw another customer request and pay for an upgrade to an electric car. We rented through the Kayak website. We rent often for short trips a few states away. We own an SUV so look for a smaller car to ease the cost of gas. We walked into this location and there are printed out signs everywhere (EVERYWHERE) that warn renters about their "$400 cleaning fee" if you smoke weed or cigarettes in your car. Fine. We don't smoke so I was willing to look past that. Then, we get up to the counter and there was a guy hanging out and a woman on the phone. Wasn't sure who to speak to so just said hi to both. The woman ended her call and asked how she could help us. Once we got to the liabilities portion of the transaction, she asked if there would be a second driver. My husband was with me at the counter but being that I am the better driver (lol), I drive for these trips. I responded no. The rep the says "IF there is a second driver and you get pulled over YOU'RE GOING TO JAIL and the car will be towed!". Not in an FYI kind of way but in a threatening kind of way. From there, the interaction just went downhill. I'll spare you. The car was vacuumed but not washed. The mid-sized vehicle was actually smaller than what was advertised. Their lot of cars is very small so book with caution. Not much room for switches or even upgrades. Never again for me! read more

This was an easy peasy transaction. Customer service was pleasant, swift and accommodating. Our insurance company called in advance and I simply stopped by, picked out an affordable car, pictures were taken of scratches, dents and then the paperwork was completed - bada bing! When my son's car had been fixed, the return process was just as easy and quick. Be aware though - after reading one of the reviews and conferring with my Insurance Carrier, Hertz will try their darnedest to sell you additional car insurance. Ok, you reserve a car 3 weeks in advance for 8 am pick up because your on a very tight schedule and you get there and they tell you it will be 30 mins til they can get a car over to the store you scheduled for pick up. My insurance called to reserve a car. When I called the Hertz this morning the rep, Joshua, stated that they don't have any vehicles. He didn't check my reservation number, he didn't say he'd check another location. After asking was he going to check my reservation number, he reiterated in an annoyed tone "check again on Monday". The Call ended with me saying ok thanks . He didn't say anything back. Now I can see why the reviews are so low. There was very little effort to see find alternate ways to help. This place was terrible! Not only did they rent my cousin a car with malfunctioning windshield wipers but they refused to change her car before she left to go outta town because according to them they didn't have another car available and they didn't even fix the windshield wipers she was just on her own. Once she returned they contacted my cousin and said there was a scratch on the car that she would have to pay for. Kyle was kind enough to reduce the charges because of the malfunctioning windshield wipers however every time my cousin called she received less than poor customer service on the telephone once from a young lady lady name Leah who was nice in person but rude on the phone. Run, don't walk. I prefer another rental company but the repair shop that my insurance sent me to contracts with Hertz. I was picked up from the collision place and on the ride over, the young lady, while mannerly clearly has no concept of appropriateness in a work environment. The radio station played songs that had derogatory terms used to refer to women and people over color (Tupac, Biggie Smalls, etc.) There is a time and place for everything and this was neither the time nor the place. When I arrived, a woman who had been picked up from the same place about 30 mins before me (we were at the repair shop at the same time) was still waiting. Just based upon the ride over, I wasn't confident but seeing the place confirmed that this was not the place for me to rent. The place looked like a fly-by-night setup. When I walked in, I was not greeted, several people looked despondent. as they waited to receive service. The branch manager was in the middle of helping me when another call came in and he diverted his attention to the person on the phone instead of the person standing right in front of him. I was so thankful that when he said the repair shop didn't send the billing information. I took that as confirmation to leave without hesitation to go to a place that provides a more professional customer experience. My car was hit while parked at work (luckily the driver left a note). Because her insurance had a contract with Hertz, I was forced to use them or pay out of pocket for a different company and go through the red tape of a reimbursement. No thanks. I had assurance from the manager of this Hertz location that they would be at the body shop to pick me up at 9am... 9:30 came and went and no one showed up. When the body shop called to find out where the Hertz pick up was, they were told they had an emergency pick up and would get to me ASAP. They didn't show up until nearly 10am!!! The first car they tried to give me had the "service engine" light on and a HUGE crack in the windshield (which is illegal to drive with). I had to wait an additional 10 minutes for Warren to vacuum out the other Toyota and switch my reservation over. In the end, I didn't make it to work until nearly 11am, 3 hours late to work!! 0 stars is what I give. First off after explaining to agent we needed a newer vehicle for a long road trip and reservinga Full Size sedan, my wife and I were offered an assortment of old cars. The first was filthy inside, high milage and with bald front tires. After we refused on those basis the annoyed young man dragged himself inside and from his desk clicked open another car at the curb. This time when I opened the door the unmistakable odor of marijuana overtook my nostrils. My wife and I then proceeded inside to let him know that that too wasn't acceptable. He then said that was all he had, take it or leave it. Not Good Enough Hertz. After conferring with my better half outside we decided to take our business elsewhere, and that's when a manager who didn't identify himself came out and asked what was the matter, we went through once again then were offered another vehicle that his agent claimed it wasn't available. We too our trip after a thorough cleaning of the smudged interior glass, but otherwise the car was good, your service however. Piss poor. Do better we paid a lot of money for that rental. read more

Not only did they not have a vehicle for a reservation made five weeks in advance but they would not make any effort to check nearby locations for available vehicles. I fully understand why this location only has 2 1/2 stars. They are Unmotivated. Ive dealt with this branch several times in the past and without fail they are a disappointment. I work for a local bodyshop, often customers need to use Hertz due to their insurance company, called Hertz today to check a reservation. The store did not have the reservation at all. The young lady whom answered the phone indicated they do not pick customers up after 4pm, and the pick up (using uber/lyft) is not guaranteed. How are customer suppose to get to HERTZ? Who decides which customer can or can not be picked up. Called today and was on hold for 27min. Called right back and Shavona picked up , she stated she was not the person whom put me on hold for 27min and never came back EVER. If an employee walks in to phones ringing off the hook, why wouldn't they pick up the line and try to help. No leave potential customers on hold. BAD / POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AT THIS LOCATION. . Don't ever make a reservation because it means nothing. I made a reservation and received a confirmation number. The reservation also stated that they would call me an hour beforehand to confirm if I needed a pick up. That did not happen. When I called, despite my reservation, Brian (who answered) the phone indicated that they did not have any cars available. He then said that he would call me if he got one in...hmmm, that might work, until I asked if he is expecting any in based on when they are supposed to be returned...his answer...no. So, if you want to plan ahead of time for a car because you need it and you really DONT need the car, then by all means, feel free to call Hertz in Laurel because they don't honor reservations apparently. read more

This was originally a ZERO star review but after the area manager by name SKY (sweetheart girl) interacted I give extra 3 star bonus. When I returned me car the employee there (I do not want to name her on here) accused me of smoking in the cigarette because there was an one inch of cigarette wrap left in the car I assume from last renter bc the car was not completely clean. She wanted to charge me ridiculous stupid $300 fee. Until I talk to SKY and she said it is not true and she waived the fee. She is very nice and good example of area manager at hertz. I suggest anyone to rent here to triple check the cleanliness before driving away. I remember when I returned the rental last time Two customers were yelling at employees for being accused of smoking in the car. How they measure someone smoked in the car beside the smelling it, if it doesnt smell what else you should be worried. All in all it was a stressful rental instead of being smooth. I called Hertz to get a rental as part of my insurance claim on a Thursday, for a minivan for the following Monday. Of Thanksgiving week. Right away Daena said that it might be difficult to impossible to get a minivan given the time period. In spite of this near impossibility, Daena and Anthoni made it happen. Now, it wasn't a minivan, and it wasn't there right in the morning as they had hoped, but they got a Ford Transconnect (never heard of it? Neither had I) for me by noon, which had the three rows of seats I needed for my family - really my only requisite. There were a lot of calls between Daena and I throughout the process, and the whole time he was patient, understanding, and professional. Randolph picked me up from the autobody place, and he was very personable and professional. Once at Hertz, Daena and Anthoni met all of my expectations, and I am quite pleased. He was totally disrespectful and tried to demean me and talk to me like I was a child. I had to let him know I'm not a child, I'm a customer and I deserve respect for patronizing your business. I have a right to voice a complaint and my dissatisfaction with what was happening to me without being told that it was a rant. He has no sense of company and representing the company as a whole, nor making a good impression, nor providing superior service. His attitude towards customers really sucks! Never have I felt more disrespected, discriminated against as a woman and unappreciated as a customer! His lack of courtesy and customer service has me never wanting to return to Hertz! I had a confirmed reservation and they had no cars.... how unprofessional. I was confirmed for a 9 am pickup, I ended up getting a car at 5pm.... I was treated like it was my fault. Additionally, they we're going to be closed the following day by 1pm and it was only a 1 day rental so that meant I had to return the car I picked up at 5 pm by 1 pm the following day and pay the same price. I did not get my full 24 hours and it was due to their unfair bookings. They should not be allowed to confirm reservations if they have no cars!!!!!!!! I received no adjustments not apologies for their gross negligence in confirming a reservation knowing they had no cars! This company should have some integrity! An update to the prior review for the Hertz rental car place in Laurel, MD on 12/24/16. The following day, I contacted the Hertz 800 number to see if there were any other rental locations near me that would honor my prior reservation (not wanting to deal with Hertz in Laurel again). Unfortunately due to the holidays, all local locations didnt have any available vehicles. Was told by the phone rep to re-establish contact with the original Hertz Laurel location; and did so as I didnt have any other choice. Upon contacting Hertz Laurel, I recognized the CSRs voice on the line as the person that assisted me the day before. Instantly, she indicated that she recognized my voice and said, "I remember you! Your name is Peter, right?". I politely corrected her and told her, " no, it's Dwayne". She pulled up my prior reservation and said fortunately, a person had returned a vehicle earlier in the morning and she would be able to hold it for me (she indicated it would be a yellow hyundai sedan). I thanked her and indicated that I could be there in an hour to pick it up. As I was a little late arriving to the location (by 20 minutes), the Hertz CSR contacted me again and asked in an annoyed tone why I was not there and if I still wanted the car. I reassured her I was running a little late and that I would be there in 20 minutes. I found the inquisition strange as I was initially the one inconvenienced by not having a prior reservation honored and set back from my prior travel arrangements an entire day. Upon arriving at the location, I instantly spotted the yellow hyundai sedan in the parking lot and thought "all is right with the world." Upon arriving inside, I instantly recognized the Hertz CSR, who at the moment was closing a rental contract with the couple in front of me. While I patiently waited, she nonchalantly walked the couple past me to the car that she set them up with...you guess it, the yellow hyundai sedan! As she joked and laughed with the couple while walking them through the features of the vehicle, I walked out to see if I was being featured on a special episode of Punked. Upon seeing my appearance, I saw the CSRs previously jovial face turn dour as if she had just seen a ghost. Keeping my calm demeanor, I inquired as to why she was renting the previously promised car to someone else and also asked if there were any other cars coming in that morning for rent. She indicated that she was under pressure to make a car available for the customers that were already there and that the couple in question were Hertz signature club members that get priority; she had no choice. Fortunately, she indicated that another car had just come in for rent and I would be next to get it. Ultimately, I was able to secure the next rental, but given this experience and lazy fair approach to honoring reservations, I would still have a hard time considering doing business with this Hertz location again (or Hertz in general). read more

I am now editing my review because I was charged for insurance which I had let them know the day I rented the suv that I did not need it. They said they would remove the fee when I came back to drop off the auto. Which I believed they would. When I came back they forgot to remove it and told me they would put in the request with their manager, so I believed hem and gave them a 5 star. Well here we are in January and I rented the vehicle in November around the holidays and returned around the end of November. I have called there 4 times since then and never received a call back from the manager, nor my funds. It was only 1 day of insurance plus tax which is not a lot of money but considering I did not have to pay for the rental due to an auto accident which was not my fault it's the principle. My insurance reserved a car rental for me, I called to see about picking up the car, there was no car available, they said. She said she would call me back either way to let me know, if a car came in. I never received a call back, so I called back the next day, i was placed on a 20 min. hold, & disconnected. I called back & was asked to hold again, I said I was holding & got disconnected, so she said what is your number, I will call you back. I waited 30 mins. to be called back, & was not, so I called again, & was placed on another hold of 20 mins. 3 hours later, no one has yet, to call me back. I had a very good experience with this branch of Hertz! They were a lot cheaper than their competitors, their customer service was very personable and friendly, and they handled my account with courtesy. The new(er) manager Ibrahim (last name ?) was very efficient and detail oriented concerning my account. And when I had an issue, he was very prompt in the follow through. I suggest that if you do rent from them, talk to Ibrahim. He seems genuinely involved with your account and would be willing work out your situation, should there be an issue. Since my account was charged incorrectly, I went to this branch in person once again. I was promised to be called back the same day to be told when I was going to receive nearly $300 that my account wrongfully was charged. They told me my insurance had paid them back late. Of course I was never called back. I spoke to my insurance who then connected me to Hertz's insurance branch since it seemed that I hadn't returned the car on time. That Hertz office told me that the account was closed incorrectly. After 14 days, I still haven't been paid back. They tell me it can take another 15 days. No regard to customer service. They do not care. They are nice as long as you pay them but could care less if they put you in a difficult situation or anything else. Please avoid Hertz. I called so many times and talked to so many people. No one seems to take accountability. read more

Yep, should have read the reviews.....called them to be told, "oh yes, we have plenty of cars".I get here and they try to put me on this BIG a$$ gas guzzling SUV with three rows of seat and a hatch. No thanks, so here I sit like a clown waiting for a car to be returned. They have 20 minutes before I start kirking out. read more
