I made a reservation via Avis app. App gave me best rate best on weekly rental. I arrived at the facility at WhiteOak which is in a new location there. Upon arrival, I was greeted. I gave the agent my information and they brought a car around. I rented a full size vehicle but was only offered a civic. I never rent anything below full size. I was rushed through looking over the vehicle. The car had service light on. Agent cleared it but I checked the engine later the oil had not been changed nor was there any windshield fluid. There were dead bees and wasp through out the car. Vehicle had not been properly clean either. All that said, the vehicle ran fine. I may rent again in the future but I will call ahead to make sure the car is ready. read more

Car was available when I came, but was in bad shape. Upon returning the car was told I was "lucky" I didn't have to pay $450 for cleaning when there was just evidence of crumbs on the floor. I also know I left a car mount in the car and when I called the next day to get it, they said they never saw it. Wouldn't use them again. read more

1 star because you can't give lower. I've never been to a rental car place where online you give phone number, email, credit card, and more get a confirmation number and email and STILL DONT HAVE A CONFIRMATION. They actually tell you call first to make sure you have a car. Well if that's the case, what's the point of a reservation?!!!!!!! You'll likely walk in to an empty office because they stay in the back. They suck! And don't expect the 800# on any level to give a $h!t. This is the most worthless corp I've ever dealt with in my life. They will make you LOVE ENTERPRISE for their speedy professional courteous service. I thought I was saving money. When you go thru so many hoops and people don't honor what they advertise there's really no savings at all. read more

Avis Rent A Car - Abandoned desk - Car Rental Near Me - Silver Spring, Maryland

Civil right? Avis Car Rental I have been a royal member of Avis since 2008. I was presenting my International Driving Permit (IDP) from Taiwan, which should normally be accepted by any legal authority or gov official. However, she said this is a "translation of my driver's license," not my real driving license. I try to explain that this is the same right to rent and drive in all the countries worldwide. IDP is not only a license but also a translation permit in over 150 countries. She yelled at me, saying if I didn't have the license she couldn't rent me a car. Ironically I have rented the car so many times at the same location, yet also different locations in the U.S. all with Avis without any issues. Why is she just so mean and rude toward the royal customers? She also mentioned she is the manager at that outlet. I seriously think she has issues with Asian Customers. I hope this experience won't happen again and I may report to my company and ask them to rethink the preferred rental car company. This is my first time feeling so disappointed with Avis. read more

Today, I watched the Ethiopian man scam my husband and was directed to do it by his Ethiopian boss. To be clear we have gone to this avis rental car location before. We delt with an African American women who had amazing customer service and about her business. She wasn't rude or disrespectful. She was direct and helpful. Needless to say she was not working today. The truck we picked up was dirty on the inside and marked up on the outside. The guy did not want to mark clear damages on the inventory form. He kept saying ita a rental car, the county won't let them wash or n maintenance the cars on site, it won't be perfect. For the price I'm paying for I paid for perfect condition. I didn't pay for dirty, green sticky nast, not perfect condition. This truck is dusty and dirty literally. We tried to compromise with the guy processing the car to be picked up. We looked in the car and cleaned a few things and handed them to the guy. After a while, I just told my husband don't pass that guy anything else out the car. They should have cleaned it when it was returned before us and we will return the car the same way we got it. To make matters worse, It's all kind of green sticky stuff on the roof of the car, all on the buttons and the car was not vacuumed out. As a travel agents, we try places before recommending that place to our clients. I would neeeever eeeeeevvveeeer send my clients to this avis rental car location and I would neeeeveeeer eeeeeever tell anyone they should go to this avis rental car location. I'm so upset at how things worked out. The scam was, we never agreed to cleaning the truck, or recieving a dirty truck. That has to be an agreement in the contract. I took pictures just in case they try to say we were in an accident. We got drive safe and save. I felt completely disrespected and I had to check out mentally so my husband delt with them. Honestly, if a pending payment happens when we return the truck wed, I'm taking them to court. I will upload all the pictures after church read more

I have rented from this location for almost a decade. Before they were inside the Sears Auto Center before it closed down. Now they are in the White Oak Shopping Center next to a restaurant. I've never had any issue here but I'm also not an amateur car renter. You need to always make reservations online in advance and use corporate discounts or Costco codes. If you're dealing with Avis as a retail customer your experience won't be as good. Avis caters to corporate accounts. When you pick up the car, make sure you take photos of every side of the vehicle, especially the headlights and front bumper which are prone to damage. Being a savvy renter will help you avoid issues. This location is run by a few people who have been there many years and they do a good job with the inventory that they have in stock. You're renting in the suburbs and you're not paying the airport fees. But you also won't have the selection of an airport. Just keep these tips in mind and you can get a great rental. read more

Worst Avis location to ever rent a car from. They never answer the phone and they don't check the maintenence history of the cars they rent out to customers. Just hours after driving the car off the lot, the NEEDS SERVICE light came on. Brakes also started screeching like the pads need to be changed. You are better off going to Enterprise or Hertz. read more

Put in a reservation 3 weeks in advance. Didn't get a call until the day of that no cars were available. Had to scramble to find a last minute rental on a holiday weekend. Never renting from them again. read more

I rented a car from this location for an out-of-state drive because my car needed some repair work. Apparently, so did the car I rented from this Avis. At first I was very understanding, as rental cars can have problems just like one's own car, and this problem may not have been immediately apparent. When I had to spend hours exchanging the car and staying overnight off my route I remained patient and just took it as no big deal. That said, when I tried to reach the office about this problem, so as to avoid being charged an extra day due to the delay caused by the lemon they rented me, no one would talk to me. Which isn't to say no one was there; they would answer the phone and put me on hold indefinitely. They would let the phone ring to voicemail. They would pick up and hang up. I assume they saw my number and knew they had rented me a busted up vehicle. I was able to get Avis national customer service on the line but they were rude, unhelpful and evasive. One person would refuse to answer questions, the next would say one thing, then another, then back the other way, just fencing the whole time. This was for a simple issue that should have required a couple minutes to resolve. Not surprisingly, when I exchanged the car at a location at the Pittsburgh airport, two other people in line were shocked at their charges and said they had been lied to by their agent at another location. The guy behind the desk yelled about how they had not been lied to, and ignored my issue while spending minutes lecturing them with no personal knowledge of the issue. Someone even commented about how "feisty" it was getting at the Avis counter. Everyone was unhappy and at least a little bit lied to. I have not had any of these experiences with any other rental agency. Suffice it to say, Avis failed that try out and will get zero business from me in the future. read more

Having a car rental service in White Oak is a good idea. A car rental service with a recognizable name is a better idea. Avis beats Enterprise & Hertz in Silver Spring because they are in a good location. Alas not all good ideas make it to the same place. For all that is in their favor Avis is behind in attracting a more compelling staff. They have enough interest to clean the cars and keep a decent fleet of new and appealing vehicles in stock but not enough interest where you wouldn't feel encouraged to write a review and say you can do better. And by that I mean don't drive. read more

Ali, the owner was nice to work with, he talked me into an upgrade to a 2013 c-max hybrid. After the long trip I took across several state lines it was a great ride and an even better suggestion. Ali took his time to help me with the the process and took care of a minor payment issue towards the end of my rental. I almost gave up on renting from independently owned budget/avis locations. Ali was great and so were the staff members. I wish you the best of luck at this location, my experience was nice and worth writing home about so, there you have. Best of luck with your rental. read more

The worst car rental location eveeerrrr! Got my car dirty , no air in tires , the car shaking , and very bad customer service!! Dont go. There ever! read more

Thee worst! So I made an online reservation and arrived in a timely manner to pick up. There were only two guys there (one young cocky guy and some other guy that seemed lost). The young guy tried to upsell me to a mustang for an out of town trip saying how great that car is-- um, you idiot, I'm going out of town for the weekend not down the street! So I choose to rent one car class above my online reservation at an upsell price only b/c the only car they had in the intermediate class was red (easy car to catch the police eye). I settled on a black Hyundai Sonata. When I sat in the vehicle, I immediately smelled a heavy smoke smell. I mentioned it to the young associate and he quickly denies any smoke smell and that I am clearly wrong. He sends his flunky (the older guy) out to investigate the car and surprisingly the older guy denies any smoke smell too! The young man tells me the only thing they could offer me was a car freshener. So I rent the vehicle and pay the price with XM radio (limited channels). I return the car on Monday as agreed but an hour later due to a meeting. It was late at night and me being a young women asked the associate if he could drive me home (to avoid walking home by myself). The same young cocky guy tells me no and goodnight. Doesn't ask any questions as to why I would need a ride or offer any assistance in getting me alternative transportation. Short story long- no customer service skills, greedy for money, terrible selection, cold and impersonal, wtf? read more

Very helpful and easy to work with! Originally had a reservation at another location, but really needed a vehicle sooner than my reservation. I called and they were able to accommodate me, and everything was a complete breeze after. The car was in excellent condition and it was just as simple to return as it was to rent. Overall excellent service and experience. read more

Everything from making the reservation, to the pick up and drop off was done with the utmost care, courtesy and pride. I rent cars frequently and not necessarily from the same company, however; Ed (the operator) and Oscar just nudged me to choose Avis the next time I travel. And when I get to do it locally, I am 100 percent going with them again!!! If the rate for this experience had 6 stars I would have given them 6 stars. read more
