I needed a ride to pick up the rental and Cameron was so kind and facilitated a pick up for me. I got to the office and had a little hiccup with my debit card and it caused a delay, but the office was so patient. My only gripe was the detailing inside the car. It wreaked of cigarettes and I hate that smell. The windshield was so hard to drive in at night from the smoke residue stuck on the windshield. The manager was nice to my face and I should have known when 1st thing he asked for was my credit card a rental of $70 a day for 2 days should have costed me $140 and was charged for extra day and full tank of gas was charged $250 for a 2 day rental. Worse part is I'm out of work and couldn't ever afford a 2 day let alone getting screwed by this manager. I came to Enterprise to rent a car as I needed to get out of town at the last moment. Called and they were kind enough to wait a few minutes past closing to get me a car due to an emergency. This is the end of my grattitude. A week prior I rented a car and had no issues. This time however they checked me out with their mobile device...got through all the particulars the salesperson asked " Do you want the liability" me : "No my insurance will suffice" the salesperson: "What insurance do you have? " me: "I have blah blah coverage..." Him : " ok sign here and here. 2 days later...they send me a copy if my final bill after vehicle is returned "2 days @ 19.99 (DW). " I Google what DW means and find out it means damage waiver. Call the business the next day or so asking why there is a DW charge when I clearly declined this charge? "I see you opted for damage waiver..." Now my understanding they clearly are to ask do you want to decline or accept damage waiver. At no point did this salesman ask if I wanted it or not as I would have clearly known what this charge was. Now mind you a week ago I rented a car and inside the office all the paperwork presented...told the gentleman I dont need it and declined. Asked the office manager why would I turn around one week later and accept a damage waiver when the week before I declined it. No answer. I have no reason to lie...I remember the conversation clearly. The "office manager" looks up my previous bill and agrees I did not accept the waiver the week prior...he says the sales rep is not in and will look into and call me back. One week nothing...so I call back. I ask for the manager...the person who answered says he is tge manager. I explain and ask if the person who rented the vehicle to me is avail. He says it was him. He then proceeds to tell me he said during the rental check out the he said to me "God forbid something hapoens to the vehicle, you would be covered" Now I know darn well this was a flat out lie. I would have remembered that because he was in a super hurry to check me out...because it was 5:08 and he was ready to go...and I was also in a hurry. THIS GUY FLAT OUT LIED. I then asked him to check my rental the week before...and he rudely said. "Ill have to call you back because I have customers waiting." Didnt even ask me to hold. Took advantage of me having a family medical emergency...both people blew me off...never called back admitted I declined DW the week before m....didnt even offer to give me a credit for one day or a free upgrade...nothing...just inflated my bill 42.00 after taxes...with no acceptance of the fact it could have been their error. Refuse to credit back the over charge. I will never rent there again...and I will steer everyone who I can away from their business. Easily could have acknowledged no person would go thru this if they agree to accepting a waiver. Who would waste their time to call and dispute a charge for 40 something bucks over a charge they asked for. Lost a customer and my wife who also rents from them. We wont ever use this unscrupulous business again. Please check and double check your bill as they apparently will do this and lie to your face that you agreed to the charges. I set up an appointment with an auto shop near this enterprise location since I had gotten into an accident and needed my car fixed. The auto shop recommended this enterprise to rent a car and had passed my information along to them. This enterprise went ahead and called my insurance company on their own to get the ball rolling (something they did not have to do). The manager (Tommy) I found out later had himself driven the rental car to the auto shop for me and was very prompt and early. Super reliable and courteous. This was an exceptional customer service if you ask me. I had never had an experience renting a car go so smoothly. The manager Tommy was super professional, respectful and friendly. All the digital forms were ready to sign. He even went over how to use the car and how to use some of the features. I have been to other enterprises in other cities and towns and this was by far an enterprise that stands out from the rest. I really had a positive experience and even surprised by the amount of care that went into their service. I HIGHLY recommend this location. I never ever write reviews because who has the time honestly, but I had to write one. read more

Employee (Paul) did not explain the contract well after my car had been in an accident and I ended up having to pay hundreds of dollars for having a rental for 9 days while my car was in the shop. Manager (Ashley) said it was explained 100%, although she was not physically present when it was explained. I can't even begin to understand the reviews that I'm reading. I feel this location almost deserved an obligatory "Yelp" at this point. I've rented cars for many years, at many different rental agencies. Not only is Enterprise by far the most consistent in providing excellent customer service, but their people really go above and beyond to ensure you have had a great experience with the rental. All members of the Dixwell Ave location are fantastic, and this is reflective of their excellent customer service scores over a year long period. All of the reviews below are almost to the point of being ridiculous. Did any of you think to take pictures of the vehicle prior to leaving with it, to ensure nothing happens on return? From the sound of it, each review is consisting of a customer who rented a vehicle without properly inspecting either the vehicle itself or the contract prior to leaving the branch. Is this the fault of the branch or the customer? Yes, that was a rhetorical question. Rental agencies do not try and rip customers off, and this stigma needs to be addressed on a much larger scale. You can trust that the Hamden branch will treat you with great care as they have done for me on many occasions. read more

I picked up a car from another enterprise with a light on at the dash, which not noticed until about a mile out of meriden. The car was driving fine and sounded okay. I took it to this Enterprise and the guy behind the counter was rude, nasty to me for no reason. The Manager had to get involved and do this guy's job because he could not do it properly. read more

I would avoid this enterprise, if you can. I had to drop my car off for repairs at a nearby auto body shop and through my insurance I get a rental car. The man that came to pick me up to bring me back to Enterprise was very nice, but the people in the office were not. I was confused as to what my insurance covered a day and I didn't feel as if my confusion came off rude in anyway, instead I was served with rudeness back. I stepped outside to call my insurance for clarification and even suggested I put him on the phone with my insurance agent because even she didn't understand what he told me to start and I was met with a rude tone saying, "Well I don't know what I could possibly tel them that I haven't already told you." I very nicely asked if there was a different enterprise around here that could accommodate what my insurance covers and instead of trying to make a good experience for me I was told that doesn't exist and an employee leaning on her face on her desk in the far left corner who couldn't even turn her head to look in my direction is yelling from the back, "Yeah that's not how it works." So, I left without a rental and am headed to a closer Enterprise to me that is willing to accommodate me. 7 million thumbs down for their customer service!! read more

Not only will they blame you for damage you did not do, they will also take money off your credit card without notifying you, lie to you about what paperwork you are signing, and charge you for things that have nothing to do with the damage on the car which again, I didn't cause. . Ashely at this location was of no help. One Enterprise location blames the other who in turn blames the one that blamed them. Their Damage Department was useless and even though they and I left messages with the regional manager (another Ashley) a week ago, ive not received one call back from anyone involved. The staff at the Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Hamden, CT are the best! They were so kind and helpful when I needed to get a rental car first thing on a Monday morning. I noticed that they were a caring staff and showed the same courtesy to every customer that came into their office. They took care of us in a timely manner. They didn't want us to have to wait very long. John and Frank worked together to get all the paperwork in order and get us into a very nice vehicle. I had a lovely experience with the Hamden Enterprise Rent-A-Car. I had borrowed a car from the Hartford office (47 Airport Road) after an accident, but the Hamden office actually had kept in touch with me not long afterward (there had been some confusion through my insurance about the rental reimbursement and so forth). It actually was really wonderful that they had taken the steps to fix the situation between them and Hartford, without me having to do ten different things while I was already frustrated and frazzled due to the accident (first accident, first car, etc.). Not only were they wonderful about taking the additional steps - which may or may not have been a nuisance - they were also incredibly understanding and willing to be flexible upon the return of the car. My accident had taken place in Hartford, though I lived closer to Hamden's office. Both completely understood my situation, and Hamden even offered me a ride home - free of charge - after the return of the car. Luckily, I didn't need it, but it was truly heart warming to know that the people with whom I worked completely understood where I was coming from and were willing to go above and beyond in their ability to work with me. read more

I have to agree totally with Stacey B - and wish I had read her post before I rented from Enterprise. They tell you to look for major damage and rush you through it in bad light. Then, when it's returned in full sunlight, they find trivial stuff that could be removed with rubbing compound - ie, very superficial. Furthermore, even though I was told that they would get in touch with me first to discuss the issues, they contacted my insurance company right away. So, I don't know if this is reflective of the company as a whole, but I will be taking my business elsewhere from here forward. read more

I believe the car l received was an upgrade. Maybe because I had to wait 15 minutes beyond the time scheduled for pickup (about 2 minutes from Enterprise location). Makayla was helpful and professional. Rachel called me during the weekend rental to be sure l was satisfied. The vehicle was brand new (10 miles on the audometer). This was my first visit to the Hamden office, but I'm a long-time customer of Enterprise's Winchester, VA office. As I have come to expect, the associates were extremely friendly and enthusiastic about making the process as quick and painless as possible. The office was fully staffed and there was no wait either when I picked the car up or returned it. The facilities were clean and well-maintained with my only complaint about them being the crowded, unmarked parking lot, which left me uncertain where to park the car I was returning. What made this a 4 instead of a 5 was the associate's omission to ask me whether or not I wanted the insurance at a daily cost. Since I am experienced at this, I knew to ask; I also knew to ask questions regarding the walk-around, which seems to be the issue with some of the less positive comments. Overall, I received the same quality service and product I have come to expect. read more

if you rent from here, don't go to Paul. he's one of those "never take no for an answer" types and I HATE it! I went to pick up my reservation (for 1 day) and inquired about the price if I kept it all weekend. after he told me, I CLEARLY said "no, nevermind" on keeping it and he charged me $385 anyway. I'm on a budget saving for a car so, trust me, I, initially, said no. but I decided I could afford a little luxury...ok. we get outside...again, CLEARLY said I needed a compact car because it's just me...he shows me four cars, 1 of which was what I asked for, the rest were all upgrades...he didn't tell me they were upgrades. "I like this Nissan, but that's big for a compact don't you think" "well, that's because its an intermediate" we went through that dialogue for 3 cars! then, he spends 10 minutes...after I explained I had a funeral to get to....explaining why I need to purchase their liability like this guy will not take no for an answer but I kept saying "I've already spent too much" and he has the nerve to get annoyed and say "I can refund you if you want!" in my opinion, rude. so the next day, I notice a scratch and they have a reputation for charging people for damages so I called to let them know. he asks me if its bigger than 6 inches, to which I replied I didn't know...he asked was it bigger than a dollar bill...I wasn't outside so I said I didn't know but in my opinion it was big and wanted them to take a look at it. he, again, sounds annoyed and says "well, just bring it by, i'll look at it! (which is what I called and asked them to do in the first place)" and hangs up on me. then, I purchase their gas...I said "but if I find cheaper gas, i'll just bring it back full" he goes on about not being able to find cheaper gas...welp, I have 400 gas points from stop & shop...3.29/gal minus $0.40 equals cheaper gas. there's a blonde woman who works there that I've had before and she's really nice, she actually sold me an upgrade the last time I rented...although, she, too, told me it was an upgrade after showing it to me and after I picked it so it's common practice I guess. if they have the privilege of my future business, I know who to go to. read more
