They said I was too far to pick me up (3.6 miles) so they said they would transfer me to someone else who was closer (3.9 miles). When that didn't happen I called the other place myself (Flourtown) and they didn't have any economy cars so I called back to glenside and was hung up on and the next time I called they said they didn't have any economy cars. I was rear-ended and that's all the insurance will pay for they didn't care they wanted me to pay more. I got a great rate -- $149 plus tax for the week for a compact. I'd chosen this Hertz in Glenside because I figured there wouldn't be any pope-related traffic. It turned out I wouldn't be able to pick it up then, so I called (national) Hertz to change the pick up time. They told me that if I waited the day and a half I needed to pick it up they could not honor the rate I had and that the base rate would be $250 plus tax. I told them I'd happily pay over the phone but I couldn't get there and didn't need it. I called the local place, and the manager, Bobby Hernandez, could not have been more helpful. He said he absolutely could honor the rate, and he did. He rented me a powder blue VW bug, which I loved and which was great to drive -- the last two times I've rented from Hertz they've given me really junky cars in the compact category, which they advertise as "Ford Focus or similar." I was about to ditch Hertz, and now I have a new rental place. Thanks1

    I was rear-ended on Tuesday, 6/22, and needed to put my SUV in for repairs. My insurance carrier…read moreset me up with Enterprise for a rental. I told the insurance company to please note to Enterprise that we need a large SUV because we are a 1-car family with 3 kids and we travel a lot together (with sports equipment, dance bags, pool gear, sometimes with the kids' friends, too). They informed me it would cost more than my coverage allows. I told them that was fine and that I would pay the difference; they made a note in the file. Wes from Enterprise met my husband at the shop the next day with a Jetta which was too small for our family. He told my husband there were no SUVs available and tried to talk him into just keeping the Jetta. My husband reluctantly agreed. We drove that for a week when the body shop called me to inform me on the progress of my vehicle, said it would take an extra two weeks at least, and also mentioned that there were larger Enterprise rental vehicles returned to their lot--which is right next door to the Flourtown Enterprise--that Wes and team just hadn't picked up yet. So I called back that following Tuesday morning after the accident (6/29) to ask Enterprise AGAIN for a larger vehicle. They said they would likely have something by 1 pm that day, by Wednesday at the latest, and they would call me back. They didn't return my call after about 6 hours, so I called them again at around 3 pm Tuesday. Wes picked up and said they still didn't have anything and he would call me when they did. I asked if he knew my information in order to call back and he said yes, he then mentioned my name, and said all of my info pops right up on their caller ID. I called back the following afternoon, another 24 hours later, when Enterprise still hadn't returned my call with an update. This time I spoke to a women. I told her my whole story, that I needed the SUV a week ago when we initially dropped off our car, we'd take any of the larger vehicles they have (even the really big ones), reiterated that we'd pay the difference, we could go to another location to pick it up, I needed it by Friday at the latest, etc. She told me she would look into it and call me back. She again didn't return my call for another 5 hours, and it was nearly closing time when I realized they hadn't called me back yet. So I called them. I held for a minute or two, someone picked up, and then hung up. I called again, the same thing happened. I called a third time and a fourth time. I kept getting through the recording to the ringing and then the line was picked up and disconnected. I figured whoever was on the other end of the line was just waiting 10 more minutes until 6 pm when they could shut off their phones. But I then called the Glenside location, had the same recording and ringing and someone picked right up; I asked them to please transfer me to Flourtown because there was no other way I was going to get through as they kept disconnecting the line. They transferred me and finally Wes picked up and said hello (because the call came in via the Glenside office, he didn't see my information on his caller ID). He sounded perturbed and just said with a sigh..."We still don't have anything." I told him it's really not great to hang up on customers and informed him I'd be writing this review about my whole experience. He said none of the surrounding offices have an SUV and blamed the holiday weekend for inventory being low (it wasn't a holiday weekend when I first requested the vehicle). This time, I hung up on him and called the Plymouth Meeting location. I spoke to someone there who said she'd have an SUV for me by 3 pm tomorrow. I just wanted to share this horrid experience with the Flourtown location, namely with Wes, who apparently thinks it's ok to snub customers instead of trying to address their concerns by calling the other locations himself. If you're stuck renting through Enterprise, pick any location but this one--or you may find yourself being ignored and hung up on repeatedly instead of finding any lick of customer service whatsoever.

    Never again will I EVER use Hertz to rent a car. I went with them since they had the cheapest price…read morefor what would be approximately a one month rental. Not only did they attempt to charge all these hidden charges/fees, when I returned the car a week early they didnt even prorate the rental fee to deduct for the fact I was returning it early. Again, when you return the car make sure you do a walk around with the employee and have them check the gas and DO NOT use the ezpass provided when you have your own. All around a bad experience.

    We scheduled online to pick up a car at this location on Friday before work (when they opened at…read more8am) for a weekend trip. When we arrived at the location, the door was locked and there was a notice at the door along the lines of "stepped away, call (this 215 number) for assistance" so I called the number and it went to the national line. I hung up and tried again, and it went to a live person right away, who said the location we were at is temporarily closed and we needed to head over to the City Ave location for pickup. When we finally got over there, they said they had a problem with rodents but should be back at Umbria on Monday when we dropped it off. We adjusted our morning plans (now being about half an hour later than expected getting the car), went to work and then our weekend. Then came Monday morning. Gassed up the car, got there at 8am, and were not the only people standing there waiting for an employee. We told them to head over to City Ave and made our way through traffic to get there ourselves. Needless to say, I was unhappy when I pulled up in the parking lot at 20 after 8, and was stressing I'm about how to get us both to work on time with this new delay. Expressed my frustration and the guy who seemed most in charge didn't care - actually continued to write down whatever he was working on when I came in, even when I sarcastically thanked him for caring. He even had the nerve to tell me there was nothing they could do about the closed location - I suggested they call the people who were expecting to drop off or pick up at Umbria and let them know to not go there. I left feedback with the national customer service line, who stated the corporate location at Umbria was not listed as having any closures in their system, and that my feedback would be passed on to the area supervisor. Unlikely to ever rent from Hertz again - but definitely never coming to this location again.

[The Bad] * The location and exterior of the place is kind of odd - it reminded me vaguely of a trailer park, with the office building being one of those temporary building units. * One staff member was working at the location; when he is out to lunch... you're left standing outside in the summer heat, wondering when he'll be back. * When I went to drop off the car, I went to use the restroom and there was no toilet paper or paper towels. I told the employee on staff, and he kind of shrugged and didn't offer any alternative options. The reaction was, "Oh, yeah, I guess we're out." Doesn't seem to be a good way to run a business. [The Good] The redeeming factor was that - since you aren't near any train station and taxis are hard to come by - the employee drove me to one of the train station without expecting anything. There are a few other options in the area, and given the overall experience that I had, I would choose another option next time I'm back in town.

I was charged refueling surcharge and other hidden surcharges after returning the car with a full tank. Once they have your signature and money ,there are no more discussions to work with you. Never had this sort of experience at other places. Avis is not to blame, but they should be held responsible for not training their employees to provide a consistent high level experience.
