In July 2021, after seeing an orthopedic doctor and receiving a round of HA gel injections previously, my knee was in an abundance of pain. I could barely walk and it was affecting my ability to work, workout, drive and do normal activities with friends and family. At the advice of a friend, I called Active Care. I had never been to a Chiropractor before but was desperate for help. I was welcomed with friendly faces, a clean and open office, an insurance sheet that told me exactly how much I would owe for what and when, and Doctors with positive attitudes, outgoing personalities, and who truly want the best for you. I saw Dr. Freseth who created a plan for me that included rehabilitation, adjustments, exams, and regular massages with Cheryl. They were asking me about the medications I was on, my medical history and what I was looking for in a massage. I was impressed. Never have any of my massage companies asked me all this information. My massage was today and I went in. Nice looking office and waiting area. They have a parking lot. Place was clean, personable ladies at the desk. They took me to a separate waiting area that was dim and relaxing. I filled out a form with all my information. Orion came out and brought me in. I would say she sat with me a good 10 minutes, discussing my history and asking questions. Then she asked again about what pressure I wanted. She was very vocal about telling me if the pressure is too hard to be sure to let her know. What I experienced was wonderful. My partner paid almost $300, so we were expecting a relaxing and professional service. My massage therapist was Angie. At the beginning of the session I politely asked for an extra pillow for support while laying on my stomach, and she immediately seemed irritated by the request. The pillow she gave me did not have a hole for me to breathe through. From that point on, the massage itself did not feel like a deep tissue massage at all. It mostly felt like lotion being lightly rubbed on my back rather than any real muscle work. When I asked if she could apply more pressure, instead of adjusting the technique she repeatedly pressed her elbow into the same area, which became painful rather than helpful. It felt like the same spot was being worked over and over instead of a proper massage. Since this was a couples massage, my partner was in the room with me and even he could tell that I was uncomfortable during the session even his massage therapist Emma seen I was uncomfortable and she tried to lighten the mood. I still tried to be a good sport and finish the massage because he had spent so much money on the experience and I didn't want to ruin the moment. Afterward I shared my concerns with the manager. I was told that Angie has "never received a complaint before," which made my feedback feel dismissed. I was also offered a coupon, which I declined because I wasn't looking for a discount or a free service. I simply wanted to share my experience as a customer. Overall, the interaction left me feeling uncomfortable and unheard. For the price paid and the reputation the place seemed to have, this experience did not meet expectations.
