I was experiencing transmission issues. Several people recommended ETE. I called the Waukesha location. Voicemail. Left a message. They never called me. I called the location on S 27th St. They told me they don't make appointments. "Just drop off your vehicle and we'll get to it in a day or two." That was my first red flag. I dropped off my truck on Monday morning. I had not heard from them by Tues PM, so I called. They hadn't gotten to it yet. "We'll call you tomorrow." Wednesday, (day 3), still no call so I called them. They said their lead technician had already left for the day and would call me Thurs AM. Thurs AM....no call, so I called them. The STILL hadn't looked at the vehicle. They PROMISED they would test-drive it Friday and call me by noon. Noon came and went. No call. I called them. Voicemail. Finally, at 1:30 PM, I get a call. They test-drove it and said there was definitely a problem, (DUH, I knew that!) but their lead guy was gone for the weekend and didn't have a chance to look into it further. They graciously informed me that I could pick up my truck and bring it back Monday, and that I would not lose my place in line. I was already on my way to pick it up. When I got there, they asked if I planned to bring it back on Monday. I asked if they could promise me that they would get to it on Monday. They could not. Needless to say, I was irritated and incredulous. How can you run a business like this? They seemed to have no concept of the inconvenience it caused me not to have my vehicle for a FULL WEEK, and THEN, expect me to leave it with them AGAIN with no idea of when they would actually get to it! I wish they would have been honest and said they were too busy to get to it for a week or two. Instead, they worked everything to THEIR convenience instead of the customer's, and all I got was the run-around and excuses. read more

I've had several vans to ETE several times through the years for various issues and always have been treated well. Fixed what was wrong and didn't try to run up the bill. I've gotten a rebuilt transmission from they some years back that worked well. More recently I had to purchase a transmission out of state on a trip and had some issues with it leaking when I got back home, last year and this year. I wish I could leave a negative star review! I have a 2002 Silverado 1500HD and at 253,779 miles the original transfer case started howling so my mechanic suggested changing it so I wouldn't have issues. Well he got a rebuilt from ETE. It worked great until it didn't. At 255,910 miles (only 2,131 miles on t case) something snapped and I lost 4 wheel drive. I have since moved 200 miles away from my old house so I found a new shop near me that would do the transfer case for me. ETE warrantied the transfer case but I had to eat the $450 labor and $200 shipping to get it exchanged and ETE made the mechanic jump thru all sorts of hoops before they would send the new one. Well fast forward 2 years and 578 miles and now the replacement t case is making a god awful grinding/banging noise only while in 4 wheel drive. Mind you I only drive this truck in 4 wheel drive about 1% of the time. So I contacted them and a really nasty woman answered the phone. She thought she put me on hold but must not have hit the button because the whole time she thought I was on hold she was yelling, screaming and swearing at a little kid who was crying his eyes out. When she finally picked the phone back up I explained to her what was going on. I said I got a replacement transfer case under warranty and the new one has sh!t the bed with only 578 miles on it. The warranty is literately just under 7 weeks out of warranty and even thought the replacement has less then 600 miles she very rudely said "The warranty is up and I can't do a damn thing for you" Who talks to a customer like that? Then she had the balls to try to sell me another one from them...not even at a discount. So now I am a little over $3000 into a junk transfer case and have to spend another $1700 to get a different one. Steer clear of this place. You will be sorry! Their quality has dropped so much it isn't even funny. The use cheap Chinese-e-um parts instead of using quality parts to save a few bucks but still charge good parts prices. read more

I just wanted to follow up and thank Damon and the quality team at ETE in Waukesha. It turns out the issue was two recently replaced front sway bar assemblies. It seems the not so qualified team of technicians at another service provider that installed these sway bars were less than stellar. The kicker was when I was told by Damon, "no charge". The team diagnosed the issue, tightened up the sway bars and even drove a couple more times after per my persistence before I picked it up. You have earned all my future vehicle repair/service work. Engine and Transmission recently replaced the transmission in my wife's 2013 Ford Escape. From the initial experience with diagnosing our problem to the completion of the job, I found ETE to be honest and friendly. Vince was the person I spoke with the most and he was honest is his dealings with me and provided us with the service we requested. The work was done in a timely manner and our vehicle was returned in perfect condition, clean and functioning perfectly. My car overheated on a Sunday coming home from vacation and had to have vehicle towed. Other shops were 2 weeks before they could look at it. ETE looked at it first thing Monday and provided me a quote for issue. They also recommended additional preventative maintenance that would save me money on labor doing it now. Called the Florida company which didn't appreciate Vince's lie and removed them from their preferred installer list....guess that shows WHO does the manufacturing. Great place to go if being ignored is your thing. Called early in the week and made an appointment to have my car looked at that Friday. Left it overnight, using the key drop, Thursday. Noting that I would call about it at 4:30, after work. Well, I stopped in Friday after work, and was shown that the work order had been neatly printed out, keys had been tagged, and set on the desk, both front and center... Then ignored for the rest of the day. Not even a phone call. I was given the option to bring it back the following Monday, but I passed. read more

My car's transmission leaked oil from the trans-axle seal and after having the seal replaced at three different shops, the transmission would leak again within a few thousand miles. Boucher Chevrolet actually replaced the seal twice, and told me that I needed a new transmission, at a cost of three thousand dollars. I took my car to Engine & Transmission Exchange, who said that my transmission shifted perfectly and the leak problem was due to an inner seal in the trans-axle that was improperly installed, probably at the factory. ETS diagnosed and repaired the inner seal for a cost of a few hundred dollars, saving me roughly $2,700.00. I have since driven 30,000 miles, and still no leaks. I highly recommend ETS for honest service, at a reasonable cost. read more

Update: Because I left this review, the owner contacted me "to try to make things right" (in other words, to convince me to remove my bad review). He didn't just call me once. He called me multiple times over a few days without leaving a message until I finally picked up. Once on the phone he proceeded to argue with me about my treatment and experience with his shop. The owner didn't apologize for how rude his employee was to me. He didn't apologize for not informing me there was a fee just to look at my car. Nor did he try to assure me that he and his employees were not trying to overcharge me and he definitely didn't say that this would never happen to another customer. ***I'll further explain the problems I had with this shop at the end of this update in case anyone is wondering about the fee the owner was talking about in his response.*** Basically, the owner just called to harass me for writing a bad review on his shop. If he had offered to refund the fee that I was wrongly charged or even if he had just assured me that he would do his best to make sure this misunderstanding would never happen again, then I would have been able to put an update on here saying something decent about this shop. He didn't do that or anything to correct the situation. He called to argue with me about my review. He must have been having a slow day at the shop. I stand by my original review even more now. Not only did they try to overcharge me for the work they wanted to do (I found another place to it for over $100 less), not only did they force me to give them $45 to get my keys back so I could take my car to a decent shop, they called me to harass me for leaving an accurate review of my experience with this business. To anybody who is reading this or considering taking their car to Engine and Transmission Exchange, I ask you, why deal with all the drama, high prices, and hidden fees that this place has to offer when there are plenty of decent and honest places you can take your car to? **For anyone that is curious here is my experience with a little more detail: I had my car towed here in the middle of the night. The owner called me the next day to see what I wanted done. I told him I was pretty sure my alternator needed to be replaced. He said he'd have someone look at it. He never said it would cost any amount of money to look at it. When they called to give me a quote, the quote they gave me for the alternator was extremely high. I called around and found it much cheaper somewhere else (over $100 less). I think, since I had my car towed there, they thought I would just pay whatever price they came up with, because I couldn't just drive it somewhere else or maybe it was because I'm a girl. Who knows. All I do know is that it wasn't hard to find a better priced shop. I called AAA to see if they would tow it somewhere else. They said they would as long as I didn't owe the shop my car was at any money. They called the shop to confirm I didn't and they informed me that the shop said I owed them money. I didn't know why they had said I owed them money when they had done nothing besides give me a quote. I called the shop to figure out what was going on. This is when I encountered the rudest employee ever. He said I owed them $45 for looking at my car. I asked why no one had informed me of this before they had looked at it. I would never had agreed to that. I already knew my alternator was bad and had told them that. If I knew they would charge me to confirm what I already knew, I would have just asked how much an alternator was. I would have found out how high priced this shop is. Then, I would have gone somewhere else instead of wasting a whole day waiting for them to get back to me and telling a bunch of stuff I already knew. His employee wouldn't budge on this fee. He claimed the $45 was for all the "work" they put into finding what was wrong with my car. Again, I already knew what was wrong and had told the owner what was wrong during our phone conversation earlier that day. I've never had to pay any other shop to give me a quote to make a repair. If I had asked for a bunch of tests to be done on my car, I would understand why they would need to charge me something, but I basically told him what was wrong with my car. They took it upon themselves to do way more tests than necessary. My main point is that I was never told there was a fee for looking at my car. Not once during my first conversation with the owner was money or cost mentioned. They didn't install the alternator without telling me the price first (Thank God!) so why would they do anything else without telling me the price first? read more

Left our truck with them on Wednesday afternoon. My husband called today (monday) and they hadn't even LOOKED at it, let alone fix it. Has happened many times before with them. Getting harder and harder to find someone who is good at mechanics and timely with getting the job done. I am a new mom of a six month old baby who works full time, and is also in school. The car that I have owned for ten years now will no longer start, the key won't turn in the ignition. I decided that the fix wasn't worth it due to the fact that this car is falling apart after years of wear and tear. On Monday I was sick and worked anyway and pushed through to also do my son's physical therapy. I was so sick by the end of it I was absolutely useless. The next day my job worked me nine hours straight without a break. Finally this morning, Wednesday, I was able to arrange a tow with triple A. When I called ETE Total Car Repair he understood my situation and waived my storage fees and I almost cried. I am exhausted, stressed, and without a car for the time being until I pick out a new one. I am hanging on by a thread and I really needed an act of kindness. I highly suggest using ETE Engine & Transmission Exchanged, they are more then fair, and I hope other people see this and use them as well. I will keep them in mind for my future car needs. I was going to Woodman's for my Oil Changes and Tire Repairs but I am going to change to ETE especially since they are open on Saturdays. Thanks guys! Keep up the good work! My son was visiting for the Christmas Holidays. He drove from Virginia and noticed a noise coming from the front wheels of his car. We suspected wheel bearings. Having had previous good experience with ETE Waukesha, I called them and spoke to Damon. Damon told us to bring the car in next business day, first thing in the morning and they'll take a look at it. After about 2 hours of dropping my son's car off, Damon called, confirmed that both front wheel bearings were bad, had the parts in stock and would have the car repaired by the end of the day. Mind you, this was within a couple days of calling ETE, a couple days before New Years Day. Picked up the car, bearing noise was gone and the repairs were not only reasonable but considering the short notice, very appreciative of the speedy service as my son needed to get back to Virginia a few days later. I am a college student with an '04 Jetta. I'm originally from Michigan and do not have a lot of car knowledge. I started hearing a really loud noise coming from my passenger side. When I called ETE Vince was very nice and explained that might be a wheel bearing and I can bring in my car when it's convenient for me. It was my wheel bearing making the noise. This is the best place I've ever taken my suv. A 2000 oldsmobile bravada platinum. I've had it 3 months. I took it in for an oil change and told them something seemed loose because it vibrated every time I put my foot on the brake at a stop sign or red light. Also there was a little leak in the radiator or hoses. I got it back yesterday. I called when I got home and asked if they gave me a different truck. It was totally different. Ran smooth, no leaks, and can get up to speed with no problems at all. I won't be taking my vehicles any place but there. read more

I can't recommend this company highly enough. The dreaded check engine light came on in my car and I knew that sometimes it can be something as simple as a loose gas cap. I tightened the Cap down but the light stayed on. The next day I filled my tank and again made sure the cap was tight but the light stayed on. I searched online for the other likely causes and they were all scary expensive. Having heard great things about ETE, I took my car there and was prepared to pay whatever the price was. Turns out it actually was the gas cap. There was rust around the filler neck that had to be scrubbed away and they put in a new gas cap. Problem solved. Based on all the above they could have told me it needed a new catalytic converter and I would have believed it and paid the price. All the reports by others of their honesty and integrity are true. Hope it's a long time before I need another repair but the only call I make will be to ETE. read more

I have had two dealings with the Engine Transmission Exchange. I had to have two exhaust headers replaced on my 2002 Dodge Dakota. Initially, they gave me an estimate which included contingencies of possibly grinding heads, possibly removing snapped off bolts, and the like. Midas Muffler wouldn't even give me an estimate. ETE estimated one week. They completed it in 5 days. Most striking was, the final invoice was for LESS than the estimate by about $500 dollars. They said they didn't need to do some of the contingency things they had included. They could have charged me for grinding the heads, and removing rusted bolts that had snapped off, and I wouldn't have known whether they had or hadn't done the extra things. So they did the job for less, and I had them spend the left over money to install all new shocks which my truck needed badly. So about 5 months go buy, and my front end started banging away like it was literally going to fall off when I hit even the slightest bump in the road. There was a metal-metal hammering sound. I took it in to ETE, as a walkin, just to have them take a look-see, not knowing what it was. The manager checked things over while I waited. He came back, with a Loaner Key in his hand, and said it will be about three hours to get a replacement shock and install it. Through no fault of EXE, the bushing on the shock had failed causing the clammering, hammering noise. I took the loaner car, did some errands. They called after about three hours, and said it was finished. I picked up the truck, and, no noise! They covered everything at their expense, or under warranty - even though I was prepared to pay the full ticket because it had been over five months. My experience leaves me with a very satisfied feeling about my EXE-Waukesha experience. They had two separate experiences to rip me off, and I wouldn't have known the difference. They have what most businesses -let alone auto repair shops- have, and that is INTEGRITY. A refreshing attribute. They do what the say, and say what they do. Engine transmission exchange is the only place that I can fully trust to take my car in the Milwaukee area. The staff is incredibly knowledgable and everyone is really kind. I've had a ton of work done on my car here. I ran into a deer with my 2003 Honda Civic and they fixed it immediately and only fixed the parts of my car that needed it. I brought my car in here for everything. Oil changes, big fixes, tire rotations, new brake pads, you name it and they've done it for me. The best part is I never felt like I was getting screwed out of money. They genuinely want to make your car room smoothly. There are times when they will tell you something needs to be fixed, but they will even tell you when it needs to be fixed. Some of the fixes could wait for a few days or up to a few months. Everything is always very timely. Whenever I dropped a car off it would always be ready when I was told. You should make an appointment because it can get really busy, especially during the cold winter months! If you are waiting for your car, there is a cozy waiting area with a TV, coffee and wifi! You can't go wrong with ETE, customer service, staff and prices are all that a customer could ask for! This is definitely the place you want to trust with your transportation. read more

A couple of weeks ago I lost all compression in #2 cylinder in my 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 4.7l. I had it towed to ETE. Within a day or so I got a call from ETE informing me that I had dropped a valve causing internal damage to my engine. They informed me that I could tow it somewhere who could repair the engine, but explained in detail what expense I would incur repairing the damage - I agreed I'd be halfway to the price of a new engine if I did the repairs. Because the truck is in decent condition I chose to put a new motor in my Ram. The process is just getting started and so far the reps/techs I've dealt with have been extremely helpful, courteous and detailed in explaining their process and pricing. My experience with ETE at this point has been a pleasure. They said I was looking at a 1 week to 10 days turn around. read more

I have an '09 Chevy Impala and was told by the Boucher Chevy Dealership that my head gaskets were leaking. Boucher wanted $2100 for the repair to prevent coolant from mixing with the oil and damaging the engine. I took my car to ETE for a second opinion and not only was coolant not leaking, but the oil leak was so minor that it was not worth repairing. Vince was friendly, easy to work with, transparent about the costs. He didn't charge me a dime for looking over my car and saved me $2100. I'll definitely be back. read more
