My last cleaning and exam was 9 months ago and they did bite-wing X-rays. The first thing I was told by the hygienist, was that they needed to give me full mouth X-rays. I said I didn't want to do that if my insurance didn't cover it and I really don't want to be exposed to X-rays unnecessarily. Dr. Tobon was obviously either being flagged down by the hygienist or was listening and came in to discuss it. Upon entering the room, he introduced himself and began by saying, "this is my dental practice. I bought it and I own it now and I understand you have some questions." I explained my concerns and then, in a condescending tone and speaking to me like Mr. Rogers does to a child, said that he likes to take X-rays every 6 months. He started telling me stories of how they could miss a cavity and tried to relate stories of the past where people suffered mightily by not having cavities detected. I explained that I haven't had a cavity in 25 years and I would agree to the X-rays if my insurance covered it but I didn't want to do them more than once per year. I further explained that I was being treated for skin cancer and although it's not related, more X-rays instead of less X-rays was not something I wanted. He then went into a long diatribe about how he cares about his patients and was a veteran and other irrelevant information that was supposed to have me let him do whatever he wanted because he is a good guy. He said things like, "I am the professional here." and "We need to have a trust with each other and allow me to do the things I deem necessary because I care about my patients." Further, he was saying if insurance wouldn't cover it, that he would "work with me", as if he wanted me to be put on a payment plan or something to pay for non-covered procedures. Without knowing my situation, background or circumstances, the implication was that I couldn't afford to pay and not that it might be a principle issue of doing no more than what my insurance plan covers or a genuine concern of X-ray exposure. Honestly, he came across as a used car salesman who was trying to get me to succumb to his pushy tactics by making it some melodramatic "trust" issue while basically talking down to me because he is a dentist. (I guess he doesn't get that some people might have more advanced degrees than him) He said "If you think there might be a trust issue between us, maybe you should consider another dentist." Tired of trying to simply get my cleaning, exam, bite wings and the discussion of my crown done, I got up and left. My impression is that he tries to scare people to into procedures and has no understanding of empathy because he is a business owner more than he is a medical professional (as shown by the way he introduced himself).

I had a terrible infection brewing under a root canal that was only one year old. Bizarre- but it happened. The doctor did his best to fix my tooth but with such a horrible infection he did what he could and sent me home with antibiotics. When I returned he finished the root canal with ease. That's literally all he does. Root canals on repeat! For some reason that eased my nervous heart. He has perfected his craft! Anyways, the rest of the staff were lovely. They offer you water and even a blanket and neck pillow if desired. They assured me everything would be ok when I was being a big baby. The office was so clean! I honestly can't say enough about this office and it's staff. Nobody gets excited when they receive the news they need a root canal- but this place made it beyond bearable and not something to dread.

I then booked another appointment for April 2nd, which was canceled about an hour beforehand because my hygienist was suddenly unavailable. While I understand that things happen, I had already taken the day off work, so it was a little frustrating. I called to reschedule again and was given an appointment for Tuesday the 28th. The office called me yesterday morning while I was at work to confirm, but I forgot to respond after I got home--it was a very busy day and it slipped my mind. They called again this morning, and the same thing happened. After work today, I went to confirm through an email they sent yesterday, but I saw that one of the staff had texted to say my appointment had been canceled. Because of this, I will no longer be returning. Canceling an appointment that was still four days away due to a one-day delay in confirmation feels like an unreasonably short grace period. If timely confirmation is that important, it should be clearly communicated in voicemails, emails, and text messages.

I sent her to see Dr T and he gave her an honest assessment that saved her thousands on her son's teeth. To top it off the staff here is amazing. Tammy is one of the best Hygienists in the valley. Seems to me like they are starting a new practice and need $$ They also come in with a treatment plan and suggest getting different treatments done and they are ready the same day for you to sign off on things you don't need done. Be very careful and don't be afraid to ask questions or voice concerns! Also, my husband reminded me that when he went in, he was told he needed some sort of mouth guard because he grinds his teeth at night. I've slept with my husband for thirty years and never once have I heard him grind his teeth.

My job was already giving me a hard time about leaving for the appointment, so I asked if they could at least provide a doctor's note since my work requested one. They gave me a letter, but when I asked if someone could sign, initial, or stamp it so it would be valid for my job, the women at the front desk were sitting there laughing like it was a joke. The situation was so unprofessional and uncomfortable that I had to walk away because I was honestly shaken by how unpleasant the whole interaction was. If this is the way management operates, then it seriously needs to do better. I have been to this office before and have never experienced anything like this. Taken back at 12:15 p.m., Prep was done quickly and efficiently, with a big part of the goal of keeping me updated and comfortable (read "not anxious"). I don't even remember being "knocked out,"... and I sure didn't remember ANYTHING of the actual procedure. I was awakened at 1:00 p.m. and asked a few simple questions. I was back fully aware within about 5 minutes. I was wheeled out to my ride and home 15 minutes later. Over the next week, I literally experienced NO pain. I took one pain pill when I first got home, but that was only in expectation of some pain when the numbing agents wore off. When I say there was "no pain, " I mean there was no pain. I was sure that he would be choose carefully. Meeting Yolo who brought me back set the appointment up for success. She was gentle as she took xrays and pictures. Dr Sandhu came to introduce himself thanked me for coming in. We then went over Yolo's xrays we planned my dental future and got started. His treatment went ahead, him making sure i was good and not feeling pain. Im going to recommend trying Belmont Dentistry, i feel this is family dentistry like we remember.
