Dr. Wood and her staff are the definition integrity and compassion. The first time I saw her I was terrified. I actually cried, and I mean ugly cried; hard. I hate dental work, I get anxiety about it and it freaks me out. Dr. Wood and her team were so patient, kind, and respectful to me. Sad to say, I've already had 4 root canals in my life. My most recent was here at this location & it was by far the best experience! Probably as good as something as terrible as a root canal can be. I was referred here by a new dentist I've been seeing. I will say scheduling was a little tough because they're a busy office + my life is busy. BUT, they were extremely communicative & did their best to accommodate me! The only other hiccup was the morning of my appointment, they had an emergency come in before me so I ended up waiting almost an hour to finally be seen. It was a little stressful because root canals are already stressful, but I understand things come up. Once they got me back & started the work, everything went really smooth & fairly quickly! The assistant was nice & the doctor was amazing! They both had a very calm presence & made me feel at ease! I would almost say I was borderline relaxed! Do not hesitate to see Dr Allen, who is honest and caring about what is best for the patient. Truly amazing!! I was referred to her by my dentist for a root canal due to extreme pain coming from that wisdom tooth. She took the time and reviewed my issue and scans and recommended that I avoid the root canal altogether, as it was not value added in her opinion to have that procedure done on a wisdom tooth that would subsequently need to be crowned following the root canal, but rather have the tooth removed as "wisdom teeth have no benefit" and should not be saved. This is one specialist that cares about the patient, not her pocketbook! Keep up the great work Dr Allen!! You are truly one of a kind! read more

Dr. Allen and the chair side assistant were great. The pre=procedure work was quick and calming. The interaction during pre work and the root canal between Dr. Allen and her assistant was reassuring. They continually told me what they were doing and considered my comfort at all times. They ask me if I was okay and comfortable. I was amazed at the efficiency with the root canal using the microscopic tool and the computer to guide them. If you need a root canal or some major dental procedure, contact Dr. Allen. I'm with the others, Doctor Allen ROCKS! I had a particularly troublesome tooth and my dentist (Dr J) sent me to see Dr Allen for a reverse root canal (an Api-something). Her office is high tech and her skills match her equipment. Her staff worked with me on payment and when I had questions over the phone, they got answers back to me ASAP. From the moment, I walked into the Phoenix Endodontic (Paradise Valley) Office my expectations were exceeded. I flew from Los Angeles specifically for this visit and left the office feeling as if I had found the Holy Grail. Dr. Wood and her staff were approachable as well as extremely knowledgeable. Initially, unlike other dental offices, I was lead to the dental chair and asked about my concerns. My options were discussed, both risks and benefits. Dear "Kevin C.", I wrote about my first (and last) experience at your office honestly and am very offended that you implied that I wasn't. In my review, I stated that I had waited 1.5-2 hours. You must have misread it to be 2.5. I suggest that you re-read my review. I did indeed wait in excess of 1.5 hours. There was one office person at your window who kept telling me that it wouldn't be much longer, so I kept waiting. She never said anything about rescheduling. When Dr. L's office called you on my behalf before I came over, they were told that you could get me right in. I verified this with them when I called them the next day. I tried to talk to them personally after leaving your office but by that time in the afternoon, they were closed. Your patients' time is valuable too. I had waited much too long as it was and I should have walked out sooner than I did. It seems to me that you have some office staff that aren't telling the complete truth. It would have been much more professional of you if you had simply apologized and left it at that. But instead, you felt it necessary to put me down and tell me that I was not being truthful. That never makes any business look good. Dr. L's office referred me to another endodontist whom I was very happy with. You could learn from them. read more

Dr Allen and especially her assistants are so incredibly tops and encourage you to participate in your own treatment plan. Dr Allen gave me the facts at hand so I could space my calendar out for required root canals and keep my sanity. Just an "atypical" nausea all day following such a huge amount of nitrous. Hate gas in such high doses, it seeps out of your pores for 24 hrs. Others can handle it better, but I need alternative anesthesia next time. I'd prefer twilight sleep narcotic/Valium mix like with molar extractions in the old days, but they don't have anesthetists present for this. So I'll see how they help me manage that next time. Fill your pain Rx for later in the day, you'll likely need it-- no matter what they say, it's 3-5x as traumatic to the tissues and that mouth region. The outcome on her work was great a day later, with no pain or swelling. I can tell Dr Allen is a fine dental surgeon ! read more

I phoned a front desk staffer who was so unhelpful. She would not answer any general questions and was quite concealing in her responses always directing me to their website. When I responded the info was not on their website, she would obnoxiously/repeatedly rephrase my questions saying she was not allowed to respond. Truly an unfriendly experience for someone needing a root canal....guess I won't be seeing the endos as there's no transparency here. Best to take your problem and wallet somewhere else. I was very upset with the billing practices of Allen Endodontic with regard to the coding used for my initial visit to diagnose the need for a root canal. I was in considerable pain and away from my permanent residence. The coding used (D9310) indicated that it was a consultation rather than a 1-time emergency and/or distress visit. The result of which was that when I visited my regular dentist back home for my bi-annual periodic exam, that claim was denied due to the coding on the root-canal emergency diagnosis appearing as one of the two periodic exams I was eligible for in a year. When I called Allen Endodontic, I was told that they did not think they could change it, but would call me back. They never called back and I was out the $42 my regular dentist charged. There is available coding for seeing a specialist for an imminent dental problem that does not interfere with the two periodic exams I can have, but they were not willing to take the time to do that. Probably did not want to change coding for it because it was worth $165 to them, rather that a less expensive code. Very disappointed with their lack of follow-up and response to my inquiry. read more

Going to the dentist is never high on anyone's priority list - especially for a root canal. When I met Dr. Jacqueline Allen & her team my fears were gone! She has a great caring, calming demeanor. I felt very confident about her working on me. The office is totally state of the art, so I knew that I would be getting the best, most up to date treatment. They took a 3D image of my tooth - better than an xray. She used a microscope during my root canal. So Cool. My husband waited for me during my appointment. I have been in the dental field for over 25 years as an orthodontic lab technician, chair side assistant, and treatment coordinator in several offices. I believe that I have unique insight into what it takes to manage the client and financial aspects of a practice. I am currently a dental hygiene student at Rio Salado College and recently spent time observing Dr. Allen and her staff during several procedures. The truth is that money is exchanged for services rendered, no matter what services are rendered. If your car needs new tires you expect to pay for the tires or you don't receive the tires. If you want an iPhone we are expected to pay for the iPhone before you receive the iPhone. We, the public, expect healthcare professionals to conduct business differently, almost altruistically--that payment of services rendered should not be of any primary concern. Rationally we know that this is not the case, but emotionally there is a disconnect, an inner battle with the concept of, "payment due for services rendered." This is due in part to the insurance and dental plan industry. In my experience with dental financial matters, there is a direct correlation between payments that are due or past due and the number of complaints levied against a practitioner specifically and their practice in general. When financial issue arise suddenly everything else about a patient's treatment is wrong. I can't speak for how others have felt when they were treated in Dr. Allen's office. However, I can speak for my own experience as an dental hygiene student observer. I found Dr. Allen very up-front and caring. There's no fluff, which I appreciated. She and her staff were very upfront with the recommended treatment and its cost to the patient. She came highly recommended at Rio Salado College for my observation experience and is regarded highly in her profession as evidenced by her recognition of Phoenix Top Dentists 2009 and 2010(which are chosen by their peers). What most people don't know is the extent of her community volunteer service, which is substantial. I have no doubt that there are irreputable practitioners out there, but Dr. Allen is not one of them.
