On April 10th, I spent $785.08 on three piercings: my second lobes and a conch. Before the appointment, I showed inspiration photos and explained my vision to the person at the front, including that my long-term goal was a double conch. However, there was clearly a breakdown in communication between the front desk and the piercer. It was not until after the conch had already been pierced that I was told double conches are normally planned and pierced together. Had that been explained beforehand, I would have made a different decision. I was also unhappy with the placement of my second lobe piercings. I was wearing larger diamond studs that day, so the spacing looked fine in the mirror. Once I got home and wore hoops, I realized the second holes were placed much farther away than I wanted. The photos also show an old, partially closed hole near that area, which makes me wonder whether the piercer may have thought I already had a second lobe and placed the new one more like a third. I cannot know that for certain, but because I explained everything and showed my photos to the front desk rather than directly to the piercer, it adds to my concern that the information was never properly communicated. For the amount I paid, I expected a much more thorough consultation, better communication, and more education about placement, jewelry, and aftercare. On June 8th, I returned because I had an MRI and needed my conch jewelry replaced with a retainer. I also told the front desk that I needed my lobe jewelry downsized. Once again, that information was not passed along. After the piercer finished changing the conch jewelry and began packing up, I had to remind him about the lobes. He sighed and said he had not been told. The appointment again felt rushed. I had to ask how the retainer worked, how to put my original jewelry back in, and whether it was threaded or threadless. I was not told what material the retainer was made from, how long it should stay in, whether it was appropriate to leave in a healing piercing, or what warning signs to watch for. Because no instructions were given, I assumed it was fine to leave it in. When I later went to clean the piercing, I realized the skin had grown over the O-ring and it had become embedded in the back of my ear. When I pushed the jewelry slightly, the area began bleeding heavily. My husband had to use a flashlight while I pushed the jewelry forward hard enough for the embedded O-ring to come back through the skin. We then removed the O-ring and took the retainer out completely. I have included photos showing the retainer immediately after it was placed, the skin covering the O-ring, the bleeding, the retainer after removal, and the condition of my ear after I had to force it out. I cannot say whether the retainer was meant to be left in long-term because that was never explained to me. That is exactly the problem. I should not have had to guess how to manage a healing cartilage piercing after paying a professional studio to change the jewelry. After spending nearly $900 between the original piercings, jewelry, downsizing, and the retainer, I expected professional guidance and confidence that my piercings were being handled correctly. Instead, the retainer became embedded, I had no choice but to remove the conch completely, and I now have to let the area heal before it can be repierced. I lost the piercing and the hundreds of dollars I spent on it. After everything that happened, I felt I had no choice but to write this review.

We called earlier in the day and were told to make an appointment (even though their website and door say walk-ins welcome), which we did. We arrived basically right on time, maybe a few minutes early. After 15 minutes had passed since our appointment, I asked how much longer the wait would be. We were told 10-15 more minutes. I nicely explained that would put us at 4:30, a full half hour after our appointment. There was another nurse standing around doing nothing, so I asked if she could do it. I was told she isn't trained to do needle piercings, so she couldn't help. It was 28 minutes past the appointment time when she got called back. 1. It's misleading to say walk-ins welcome but then tell everyone they need an appointment. 2. If you're going to effectively require appointments, you need to honor them. 3. If you can't honor appointments because of staffing issues, fix your staffing. Don't tell people to do needle piercings with you if 50% of your available piercers can't do them. 4. Don't be greedy and overbook appointments. The group ahead of us had two girls getting piercings, and the piercings hadn't even been put in when we sat down. If that nurse was the only one qualified to pierce with a needle, our appointment should not have been made, because obviously there wasn't enough time. 5. This isn't just a scheduling issue, it's a safety one. If the staff is expected to fit in more appointments than they are able, it's only a matter of time before they start rushing. Rushing leads to mistakes. Piercings are fun and accessible, but they still require attention to detail, sterilization, and precision, all of which require time that Rowan is making impossible by messing up bookings. 6. This was a total waste of my time. I will never support a business that disrespects customers in this way.

i'm honestly very disappointed writing this review because i have gotten multiple piercings from…read morethis shop before & had absolutely no issues. i always had a great experience with the women who pierced me previously. they were patient, kind, professional, & took their time to make sure everything was placed correctly. because of those experiences, i felt comfortable coming back to have my septum redone. unfortunately, this experience was completely different. when i arrived, i was pierced by an older man who immediately came across as condescending & sarcastic. i initially brushed it off because i noticed the signs in the shop indicating that this was part of the shop's "vibe," so i decided not to take it personally. once we got into the piercing room, he immediately numbed my septum without asking me first. i found this strange considering i had previously had my septum pierced there & was never offered numbing cream, but i brushed it off & continued with the appointment. there were also hygiene concerns throughout the process. he sanitized his hands, put his gloves on, & then proceeded to touch other things around the room with the same gloves on before continuing with my piercing. while the hygiene issues were not even my biggest concern compared to what happened with the actual piercing, i still found this extremely concerning, especially when performing a procedure that involves breaking the skin. the actual piercing process felt extremely rushed. he did not take the time to properly look inside my nose or carefully assess the placement before piercing me. he simply placed the clamps to my septum & put the needle through. immediately, i felt a level of pain that i had never experienced with my previous septum piercing. i assumed maybe it was because of scar tissue from having it pierced before, so i tried not to think too much of it. then he handed me the mirror, & i immediately knew something was wrong. my septum was visibly & extremely misplaced. it was pierced way too far back, & every time i spoke, the ring would flip upward into my nose. it looked completely out of place. i decided to give it about a week & see if things improved, but instead, the pain continued to get worse. eating became uncomfortable. talking hurt because my septum ring continued flipping upward every time i opened my mouth. i also began sneezing much more frequently, & almost every time i sneezed, the piercing would start bleeding. this was nothing like my previous experience with getting my septum pierced, & at that point i knew something was seriously wrong. i went to a different professional piercer today to have it checked out. before i could even fully explain what had happened, she immediately noticed my septum flipping upward when i spoke. after examining it, she told me that the piercing had gone through my cartilage & that the placement was severely incorrect. she explained that it was very clear the piercer had not taken the time to properly look inside my nose or position the clamps correctly before piercing me. she told me she had never seen a septum piercing placed like this & that, in her professional opinion, the situation was the result of serious negligence. thankfully, she was able to remove the piercing for me, & i am finally no longer experiencing the constant pain i had been dealing with. i also felt that the piercer's behavior throughout the appointment was concerning. he seemed very off to me, to the point where i genuinely questioned whether he was completely sober or otherwise in the appropriate condition to be performing a piercing. obviously, i cannot say for certain what was going on, but his demeanor & behavior made me uncomfortable. i am not someone who likes leaving rude or negative reviews. in fact, i have had multiple positive experiences at this shop in the past, which is what makes this so disappointing. i genuinely liked the work i had received here before & felt comfortable coming back because of those experiences. but when you are piercing someone's face, proper placement, technique, hygiene, attention to detail, & professionalism are not things that can be rushed or overlooked. i looked forward to getting my septum redone, & instead i spent the following week in pain & ultimately had to have the piercing removed because it was done incorrectly. i am leaving this review because i genuinely believe bad work needs to be called out when it involves something as serious as piercing someone's body, especially their face. no one deserves to leave an appointment excited about a piercing they have been looking forward to, only to spend the next week in pain & find out from another professional that it was improperly done. i sincerely hope management takes this experience seriously & looks into what happened so that another customer does not have to go through the same experience.
