Post 2nd eye sx due to damage to my eyes from Skylar's tech radiating them w/hundreds of ionizing X-rays before any dental EXAM.

No informed consent prior to hundreds of X-rays taken of my brain, eyes, face and thyroid. This guy had a young assistant take higher powered CT X-rays radiating my radiosensitive eyes, brain, CNs & thyroid with hundreds of ionizing X-rays before I was even a patient of record, before any exam at all, before any in person history, discussion, dialogue etc. I did NOT want my brain eyes & thyroid radiated w/ hundreds of ionizing radiation images that day at my first orthodontic consult of at least 3. I ended up in scripps ER after that CBCT w/ horrible debilitating symptoms & pain. I just finished my second eye surgery because of all the inflammation & damage that CBCT without any informed consent caused. This guys ego is huge he had the nerve to say I was cutting into his lunch break at ~12:05 and I'd have to pay extra yet he can't provide any basic informed consent at all, history/exam etc before sending someone possibly unlicensed to radiate my eyes & brain like its some kind of benign BP check as you walk into the office? He destroyed my quality of life. The girl acted like she was going to just take a quick camera picture not hundreds of X-ray images of my eyes and brain. No other orthodontic office could use these as they said they only take 2 after doing an exam if the pt is ok w it. This guy doesn't care about protecting patients he cares about profit margins and isn't looking out for what's in the patients best interest in my experience. Hundreds of X-ray images with NO lead protection are very damaging causing DNA double- stranded breaks in exposed tissues incl the brain, eyes and thyroid also oxidative stress that damages cells plus inflaming tissues, a conversation about risks benefits alternatives and all questions answered by the dentist plus an exam legally NEEDS to happen BEFORE a consult person is radiated w/ this higher powered radiation. I did NOT want these radiosensitive structures radiated, it was NOT worth the risk for me. No other dental or orthodontic office in the past has ever taken any type of CT of me and not X-rays without explaining WHY they would like them, which gave me time to ask questions and opt out after asking questions and having a dialogue with the dentist. Most people don't know that dental offices even have CT X-rays that radiate the brain w/ hundreds of ionizing images at once. The last time I had orthodontics they did NOT take X-rays and my teeth came out perfect for many years. Skylar Liatti left my bite in worse shape then when I went in, he also told me to have another dentist add composite material where there was no room in the seated functional position which caused my front 3 teeth to burn and sting for 10-11 months straight after the chemicals went into the pulp chamber and then the material was ground off again due to there not being any room to add before orthodontics. I was stuck going to him bec otherwise I'd have to have 2 more X-rays somewhere else he left my front damaged teeth hitting first and my back teeth not touching at all which caused damage to my premolar roots and flared up front teeth pulpitis of which can't be rectified bec my bite is now screwed up. This place obviously doesn't follow basic CA dental safety protocols like an EXAM must be done BEFORE an RDA (if she's even licensed), I asked for the license and dose metrics of exactly how much radiation my eyes brain thyroid were exposed to but Skylar did not provide it as per CA law requires (within 15 days). Skylar obviously cares about dollar signs over patient safety. The other ortho consults I finally did months later did not rush me into any radiating X-rays even though they only take 2 X-rays not HUNDREDS of X-ray images at once. I did not sign for X-rays at that consult visit either as I had planned on doing a few consults to see whom I felt most comfortable with IF that was the next step for me.

I came here for aligners. This place was recommended by my dentist. I compared this office to La Costa Ortho before making the leap. I liked how calm this office felt (maybe it's the music and lack of crowds) and the prices were better here. Plus, here they give you a warm cookie after each appointment :) This is a newer office, so some staff is still being trained, but everyone is friendly and helpful.

I'd give them 10 stars if I could. I'm a 53-year-old that needed to make a decision: get a root canal on one tooth and continue to have crooked bottom teeth or get it pulled and start an Invisalign treatment to align them. Obviously, I went with the Invisalign treatment and in seven short months I literally have perfect teeth. The staff answered all my questions prior to treatment and through their care and efforts I have the smile I have dreamed of since high school. I found Encinitas Orthodontics through Yelp, and am so glad that I did! They have made me feel welcome and comfortable since my initial consultation, and I am excited to go through with my clear aligner treatment plan! Paityn was super helpful over the phone, and is also so sweet and easy to talk to. She was able to answer all my questions regarding insurance and the costs of treatment. Dr. Liatti is knowledgeable about the craft behind orthodontics and did an extremely thorough job in addressing my concerns and going over my treatment plan. I love that there was no pressure from anyone to go through with treatment, but because of how comfortable they made me feel, I know I made the right decision in going through with it. I just finished an Invisalign treatment with Encinitas Orthodontics and had easily the best experience I have had with any sort of dental/orthodontic work. Dr Liatti and his staff are incredibly helpful and kind when working on my teeth or if I needed anything. Additionally, I ended moving to a different state in the middle of this treatment. Dr Liatti was able to do virtual check ins and mail me my Invisalign retainers while I moved across the country without changing anything about my treatment. I was very grateful for that. I was very satisfied without how my teeth ended up, how quick the process was, how great Dr Liatti and staff were, and how they easily adapted to me moving across the country. read more

By luck we came across Dr. Liatti and his staff on our hunt for a new orthodontist for my son. I don't like anything that has to do with my teeth. Haha. My dentist recommended that I revisit braces after having them as a kid. I had been told by other orthodontists that I wasn't able to correct my teeth because of the recession areas I have. I was reluctant to see Dr. Liatti because I figured there was nothing that could be done. I showed up and was greeted by the most friendly people. I don't even want to call them staff because that seems too formal for such friendly folks! I got an appointment to see Dr. Liatti and he was so understanding about my hesitation and so knowledgeable. I was very excited to finally meet an orthodontist that knew exactly how to set up my treatment with total confidence. He has this cool machine that takes photos of your face skeleton and it's 3D! By the way, I have GOLD colored braces as an adult and they are awesome. I get compliments all the time. Go see them! Bring your whole family. You'll be happy you did! read more

Encinitas Orthodontics should be the only place where you want to go to get your Invisalign or braces done. I was told at other places I couldn't get Invisalign because I have; correction HAD a major overbite, and I mean an overbite where you couldn't see my bottom teeth. Dr. Chenard found a way and told me that it can be fixed and he did it! Dr. Chenard and his lovely staff are very welcoming and down to earth people. They want to make sure that YOU feel comfortable, and that you have the best smile. I'll test to that because I moved about a year ago and my husband and I are so happy we found Dr. Chenard and his awesome staff that I would fly back down for my visits. After yesterday my last Invisalign visit I'm completely happy with the outcome. read more

Dr Chenard is not only a great Orthodontist, he's a great guy. I know he puts an incredible amount of thought into his orthodontic cases. To me, it is very obvious that he loves his job and his patients. I didn't realize how much time and effort goes into learning the latest techniques like Invisalign. It was nice to know he is an expert in all of them. Don't forget to ask him about his volunteering trips to Nepal and Costa Rica to help those who are less fortunate. He's probably too modest to bring up those types of things, but I think they say a lot about his character. Besides that he has a super cool office, and that VW Surf Bus is so awesome! read more

Dr. Chanard and all of his staff are just amazing!! I got my braces off today!! My teeth look and feel extravagant so I am finally leaving a review after 2 yrs of being brace face...lol I'm always excited to go to my appointments, his staff makes me feel so welcome and they're so friendly. Where do I begin? Place is very clean. Staff very supportive. Process very efficient. Emergency responsiveness terrific and immediate. Lobby has great surfing books (extra). Seriously though, my daughter has had absolutely no issues during the treatment. No one is a perfect patient and our daughter Niko, 14-15, has had the usual challenges ( losing that, didn't follow through diligently, etc.), but Dr. Chenard followed through and responded with patience and appropriate care. That included, by the way, late evening and early morning phone calls to the emergency telephone number provided WHICH ACTUALLY WORKS! The only wish is that, though you find a way to work around it, the office stayed open at least one extra day a week. Considering all the things Dr. Chenard is engaged in, it is what it is, and we have managed ok. Anyway, if you are looking for an Ortho clinic, go talk to the doctor and see it for yourself. You'd see what I am saying. read more

I'm toward the end of my Invisalign treatment. I chose dr Chenard based partly on his yelp reviews and also because I didn't want a huge office. I thought since I was getting Invisalign, it didn't matter who the my dentist was. I was very wrong. Even though the Invisalign trays are made by the company, Dr. Chenard changes what Invisalign proposes based on his expertise. A regular dentist wouldn't have a clue if the proposal sent from Invisalign wasn't going to position the teeth perfectly. Dr. Chenard wanted me to do an extra refinement after the initial treatment (at no extra charge) to make my teeth absolutely perfect. There's no doubt in my mind that my teeth will be much more perfect because I chose Dr. Chenard. The staff just couldn't be more pleasant. Highly recommend!! read more

Wow. What a racket. Felt like I was trying to buy a used car. The evasive answers to how much invisilign was and the "i'll talk to my manager" tactic was a real turn off and made me feel like I was being totally bamboozled. Plus the fact that when I laughed at their quote they tried to sell me another product more expensive but "half the time". It didn't feel like they were about helping people as much as they were about making more money more money. read more

Our practice was established in 1988 by Dr. Richard Black. Dr. Skyler Liatti came into the practice in 2020.

Meet the Business Owner: Skyler L.

Dr. Liatti was driven to orthodontics through his own personal experience with braces and jaw surgery as a young adult. Experiencing the life-changing effect of having a confident smile impassioned him to pursue a career where he could give that same gift to others. Dr. Liatti received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. After dental school, Dr. Liatti practiced general dentistry for one year before completing his Master's of Science degree in Orthodontics at the Loma Linda University graduate orthodontic program. Dr. Liatti is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. Dr. Liatti was born and raised right here in Southern California, he loves to be outdoors and enjoys dirt biking, hiking, kayaking, and camping. When he isn't creating amazing smiles you might find him at a live music performance, at the lake with his family, or on an outdoor adventure.

I had previously had braces with Dr. Toolson in 2015, so this time I only wanted a small tweak to my top teeth, specifically one tooth that had shifted. As an adult who has already gone through braces, I understand how important it is to wear my retainer, and I have been wearing it consistently. At my final appointment, they confirmed that my retainer fit properly before I left. Fast forward to now, and I noticed that the same tooth I originally wanted corrected has shifted quite a bit. I went back in for an appointment, and Dr. Phillips asked if my retainer had always fit the way it currently does. I told him yes. He then told me that the retainer does not fit properly on that tooth and that fixing it would require Invisalign for one month at $450, possibly two months for double the cost. After thinking about it, I called the office because I do not feel I should have to pay out of pocket to fix something that should have been addressed when my treatment ended especially since they confirmed the retainer fit before I left. Unfortunately, Dr. Phillips did not see it that way. I paid $3,750 for my top braces and retainer, and now I am left wearing a retainer that is not even correcting the tooth I originally went in to fix. That has been very disappointing.

A few years ago, I had a bad fall that severely damaged my front teeth. What initially felt like a terrible accident ended up having a silver lining - it set me on a path that led me to Dr. Snow and helped uncover something serious that needed attention. After the fall, I initially went to another dentist I had seen before, but something didn't feel right. I trusted my gut, reached out to a friend, and was referred to Dr. Snow. That decision changed everything. Dr. Snow took thorough X-rays and discovered a tumor behind my front teeth :( something that had once been considered small years earlier, but had grown and now needed to be removed urgently. Hearing that was terrifying, but Dr. Snow was calm, clear, and incredibly compassionate. He explained everything and referred me to an outstanding surgeon for tumor removal, as well as an exceptional endodontist for two root canals on my front teeth. While those procedures were done by specialists, the referrals Dr. Snow provided were truly incredible - gentle, skilled, and kind. I felt supported every step of the way. It's important to know that I was incredibly terrified and likely would have put it off and I can't even imagine the damage that would've happened, but thankfully they were all so amazing. I was grateful that everyone understood I couldn't do everything at once due to financial constraints and they worked with me. After the surgery and root canals were completed, I continued seeing Dr. Snow for ongoing care. Over time, he uncovered long-standing issues that explained years of discomfort and embarrassment - including old material (cotton) left inside a crown that had caused discoloration and an unhealthy appearance for far too long. I had stopped smiling altogether. I would take selfies with my granddaughter and feel heartbroken seeing dark, unhealthy teeth and gaps instead of the smile I wanted to share with her. As a single mom, I've never been able to afford a quick or cosmetic fix. Dr. Snow has always understood that. He has never pressured me, never shamed me, and never rushed the process. Instead, he helped me move forward thoughtfully, realistically, and at a pace I could manage. Today, I received my bridge - the first true step in restoring my smile and I am genuinely emotional writing this. Being able to smile again, even knowing this is a longer journey, means more than I can put into words. I've got a good side Dr. Snow is gentle, honest, highly skilled, and has a great sense of humor - which matters so much when you're scared of the dentist. This experience restored more than my teeth; it restored trust, confidence, and the joy of smiling again. I have always been a little apprehensive about getting my teeth straightened since I am now an adult. I thought I would have to get teeth taken out since I waited too long. Dr. Torin told me I am a good candidate for Invisalign, and told me they can finish my work in half the normal time with a new vibration device. I'm all on board and can't wait to get started!
