My wife and I have been purchasing prescription glasses here for at least 10 years (more than 10 pairs). Both clear & sunglasses in prescription. They have a large selection of glasses on site, and also provide a very wide range of both styles & brands. They will go out of their way to make sure your satisfied (replacing my prescription lenses at no charge because I changed my mind on prescription, customize the darkness/color of my sunglasses). The best part of the experience is that they provide great pricing/deals on both frames & lenses, as compared to other optical stores I've been to. On a final note, I usually don't like optical staff choosing/selecting which frames will look good on my, however, the staff here has a real talent for dialing in on what I like, then showing me 3-5 pairs, and I've always ended up purchasing and liking their recommendations. It's also nice to support a small local store. They could move to a better location with better parking, but then keep in mind the great prices they offer may not be as plentiful! read more

I don't have much experience with glasses as this was my first pair. I went to this place because it was close to work and had a great Yelp review! My boyfriend and I first went in there to look around and get a feel for the place. We ended up going back because Sandra was so sweet! When I went to pick my frames, I must have been there an hour at least by myself trying on every pair of frames in the store. Alan was extremely helpful! If I tried on a pair that wasn't very flattering, he would give his honest opinion. Which I really love. There's nothing more that I hate than a person being pushy and telling you that you look great when something looks awful on you. He had my glasses ready within a couple days which was also great. So I went to the shop after reading good yelp reviews. Wow, this place is amazing! To begin with, I dropped by the place like 20-25 before closing and the gentlemen there was incredibly nice and didn't make me feel rushed at all. Next, I didn't have the exact color of the frame I wanted, so we had to browse through catalog, then look at some similar frames, etc. Again, he could not have been nicer about it. Finally, my glasses were ready so fast (3 days, I think - which never happened to me in any other place as I always want some crazy combination of frame + color + lense shape) and were perfect. On the top of it, price was really good compared to other places. Oh, yeah, and the gentlemen also fixed my old glasses (the type the store doesn't carry) for free. I had a great experience. They really helped me out in a bind and were very reasonably priced. I really appreciated the quick and easy service. Edit: is it possible to give a place more than 5 stars? Because they would get it for customer service. I called a bunch of places nearby (I live in Mira Mesa) and none of them were willing to help or even have me any suggestions. I went to the shop but there was only one person working and she had her hands full with two other customers. I waited a long time and then left. I came back 10-15 minutes later and she was still helping the people. I needed to move on. The parking lot is congested and there is only one entrance. I need to buy a couple pairs of prescription glasses (regular and sunglasses), but I need to go to a place where there is more help. I could not tell from the displays if the sunglasses were regular glasses or which ones were prescription sunglasses. Total life saver. I badly needed new glasses. Most optometrists are booked out three or four weeks in advance. I went to Encinitas Optical just to see if they could repair my frames. They were not able to repair, but Dave said he could pop the lenses and try them in another pair of frames. I explained what style I wanted and he had just the stuff. If you want to be cheated with poor materials then cheat yourself I've spent almost $2,000 with them in various sunglasses and when I got my reading glasses custom ordered with transitional lenses they charged me to much I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't think the tint would fade away with in 7 months and I cannot even read in them at all. I contact Allen and all he said was he'll talk to the lab and see if they're doing for free but later they still charge me 200 bucks apiece no warranty poor service and a rip off. Which I'm not going to trust there words nor the manufacture. Please examine your product from them at once. read more

It's been a couple months and have finally made my way here to leave an exceptional review of my experience. Yelp is wonderful most of the time in terms of seeking new services that you may not have found without them. I had first researched the hard to miss prices at Sunglass World and others that advertise prescription glasses anywhere between $29 - $49, but found they did not meet my expectations in style, so I decided to try this place since their selection is amass of stylish varieties and a bonus since I would rather support small business anyway. So bad with names, but hopefully it was Kathy who found me shopping for the perfect pair and asked her to help me make a decision based on the look, and so I oblige! I started wearing prescription glasses about 4 years ago, so deciding on my second pair was not a fast decision, it took over an hour to find the right pairs; one for working on the computer most of the day, the other for driving. Since my purchase, I have had no issues and really enjoy the driving glasses as they have a tint that eliminates glare and helps to see those signs while driving during night hours. Overall, this place went above and beyond and at the end, provided the appropriate paperwork to my insurance company. When the time comes again, I will be returning here for my next pair. read more

In fact, I just purchased a pair of glasses and was concerned that the lenses were too tall. Alan offered to recut the lenses (the frames only cover the top of the lenses and the bottom is open) 2 mm shorter at no extra charge. He clearly didn't have to do that. Allan and his team are terrific! I have been going here for my prescription glasses and sunglasses for years now. I found this place via yelp and I have been impressed each time I visit and I am well taken care of. When I found a defect in one of the frames and told Allan, he immediately ordered a new pair. I also requested a different color frame months after my order and Allan graciously took care of that. When I strayed from here the pricing for my glasses went up exponentially - I called Allan and told him my story and he happily listened and took care of me, even though I had temporarily left (because my optometrist suggested someone else). This highlights the fact that Allan is willing to work with you, talk with you, and understand your needs (yes, the customer - rare these days). :) The store is clean and crisp with a nice feel and attention to updated for seasons and holidays. This is the best place in north county to get glasses. They have a huge selection and don't carry any junk. One time my prescription the optometrist gave me was not quite right and they made me a new set of lenses for no charge. Recently I ordered some new frames and they are on back order, so they made me a set of lenses for my old glasses to hold me over until the new frames come in, no charge. Alan the owner has a machine that allows him to cut polorized lenses for any pair of sunglasses and it's a higher quality polorized lens. Extremely happy with my new lenses. Out of this world customer service! While in San Diego for work, my eyeglasses lost a screw and the arm fell off. These guys fixed my problem and cleaned the lenses in like, 2 minutes. I'm not one to write reviews but my experience with Encinitas Optical & Sunglass was so exceptional that I am going to tell you about it. After unsuccessfully finding frames I liked at 4 other optical centers, I happened upon EO&S. They have such a wide selection and their prices are fair and happily I found several I really liked. The three salespeople are all exceptional in that they are not only competent but they care about us customers. This is not my typical experience and certainly wasn't as I was checking out frames in other stores. First the owner himself fixed my existing broken pair of glasses. At this point I wondered if I even needed a new pair they looked so good. He has a knack at making things work and somehow he found an arm that was better than the original that had broken off! But I decided to pick a new frame anyway and so glasses were made. Unfortunately when I put them on, I couldn't see a thing with them. Alan, the owner, kept exploring why this was so. He realized my Optician had written down the wrong prescription. So without wasting a moment, he had the glasses redone. No charge of course. When they were finished, I realized I made a mistake this time. The thigamagigs on both sides of the lenses were impossible for me to see around. Alan suggested I try them for a week since many people get used to things like that after a bit. Unfortunately, I couldn't get used to it. I was hesitant to bring them back to EO&S since they already redid one pair of glasses. Also I wondered what the cost would be if I picked out a different frame. I bit the bullet and brought them back anyway. I was treated with respect and kindness and they eagerly helped me find another frame that fit my face and redid them again at no charge. I love my new glasses. They fit my small face, I can see clearly out of the digital progressives (far better than my old ones) and I have the knowledge that once again Encinitas has the best of everything -- in this case a store called Encinitas Optical & Sunglasses. read more
