They've got an enormous selection of food and wine, an expansive food menu(think gourmet burgers and fries type food) , and a friendly and helpful staff. We went on a Friday at 7:30 and walked right in and were seated immediately. I ordered the Blackberry/Blueberry Julian Hard Cider and a Kobe burger with a side salad. The salad was actually really good! Nothing like the sad iceberg lettuce drenched in ranch side salads you'd receive at other restaurants. Hands down, the best burgers! This small, a bit cramped space is filled with locals, beer and the best burgers. Tv's for sports and a limited spaced bar. High top tables around the place as well as smaller tables towards the back. It is small and always busy but this is because they serve quality food. Their salads are also very good. I like the Sunflower salad. The lamb burger special was fantastic. Comes with fries. Good service and parking right out front. Came here late on a weekday, and had the place pretty much to ourselves. We ordered the caprese sandwiches which were really nicely done. The guys working the bar was very friendly and helpful. To say they have an extensive beer list is an understatement, so if you are looking to impress someone who likes beer, take them there. I would so give this place 5 stars if the prices were a tad lower. We happened upon this after walking around SRF. I had never been here because I basically chill my butt over at Lumberyard Tavern. Came here last night for a late dinner. Read an article on their garlic burger being a must try so decided to try it out. The place is like a little bar. Different feel from La Jolla Public House and we love the LJ public house. Similar menu but also has their own specialities. Garlic Burger w/ Garlic Parm Fries - If you really love garlic, this is for you. It's heavy on the garlic side with a really strong flavor. The fries were good but I feel like they don't give you much compared to the La Jolla location. Wagyu Burger w/ Cajun Fries - This was okay. I felt like it could have had more flavor to it. The gruyere cheese was really strong. Every burger comes w standard Cajun fries. The fries were nicely cooked w a great flavor but I'm not seeing the Cajun. There was maybe a tiny sprinkle of cajun but barely noticeable. My main issue with the burgers was that they don't ask you how you like it cooked whereas most burger places do. We typically order medium well but they came out quite the opposite. Medium rare. In the dim lighting the ale house had, the meat looked like it was not cooked. I cannot imagine what it looked like in regular lighting. I'm sure medium rare is fine for most people but it was just hard to eat because I couldn't stop seeing the red. Best Burgers in Encinitas! This is such a fun place to just sit back relax, drink beer and eat a delicious burger. They are known for their 80 day beer challenge which is where you come in for 80 straight days and have a beer. I personally don't know anyone who has completed or is currently working on it, but it is a very unique club! I have been over a dozen times and I love getting a new beer on tap every time. They have a bunch of burgers on their menu and they always have two burger specials, which are exotic and tasty, so I usually go with that. Between my boyfriend and I we have had lamb, camel, bison, buffalo, alligator, and venison burgers....so good! The calamari apetizer is also delicious, spicy and tangy. First time here, and I'm happy overall! It's easy to miss, a narrow restaurant smashed between commercial buildings, but it's cozy inside. Decent selection of draft beers, and there seems to be a lot of bottled beer to choose from as well. The menu isn't extensive, which is good for indecisive people like me, and I went straight for a burger. They are probably most known for their game burgers, which change every few days and have included bison, duck, lamb, alligator, kangaroo, and camel! Weird - but I'm definitely down to try some of those. Today they had boar and venison, neither of which I was in the mood for... So I stuck with the Kobe beef burger. The bun and patty were good, and the Gruyere was a nice touch, but it could definitely have used aioli or some other sauce to make it a little more exciting (and less dry). The sweet potato fries were good too. Soooo I would say come here on a day you're feeling adventurous and try one of the game burgers. And accompany it with beer, of course! read more

They have a great food menu, and they cater to their vegetarian customers very well. Everyone enjoyed their food. The burgers are ginormous! I cut mine in half and took half home, somehow STILL leaving impregnated with a food baby. I got the Santana Burger with a veggie patty and no mayo. It was delicious with a little bite from the fire-roasted poblano peppers and pepper-jack cheese. It could have been even a little bit spicier, but that's what the varied bottles of hot sauce on each table are for. The veggie patty was nice and crispy in comparison to the soft homemade bun and the chewy, cheesy filling. My friend got the Garlic Burger with a veggie patty, and man, that was probably one of the best (most-garlicky) veggie burgers I've ever tasted. I actually liked hers better. Everyone else got the Fish and Chips, and said they were pretty good. I also like that the fries are thin- my favorite kind. My mom said that she would prefer the french fries to be crispier, though. Also, the ranch dressing is so good. It tasted like it was made in-house. I really like this place and try to come at least once every time I am in the area. Nothing fancy, nothing formal, nothing fake.. just refreshing, and truly appreciated. Belgian's aren't really my forte, but I was happy to see Maharaja and Pliny on tap, which was more than enough to appease my dry mouth. The only downside was the price.. $7 for Maharaja seemed a bit steep, which would be my only complaint. The kobe wagyu sliders were very tasty, and perfectly cooked.. with the exception of my third slider, which was wayyyy overdone. I was already full by then, so I left that one for the boyfriend to devour. I'd definitely order them again though, since they were simple, easy to eat, and yummy. Per the boyfriend, the patty melt was also delicious. The fries with the "cajun" seasoning were also nice to munch on, even though I suspected no hint of cajun whatsoever. They were just good simple fries. Sweet potato fries were also good, but lacked a bit of flavor so I'm not sure if the upcharge is worth it. We stopped into Encinitas Ale House for the first time today while wandering through Encinitas. I instantly loved this place. It's small, but we were there early and it was the 4th of July, so it was not crowded. We sat at the bar and were greeted by both a man and a woman who was our bartender. Both were SUPER friendly and that was a plus right off the bat. The other thing I really like is that you can get 5 oz tasters of any of the beers on tap for $2.50. We each got two of these as we were just in for a quick sip and all four of the beers were delicious. They have a really huge beer selection and these aren't boring beers, which is great. They also told us about their 80 beers in 80 days club, where if you can drink 80 beers in 80 days you get a lot of cool perks. If I lived closer, I think I'd give it a try! But, we don't, so I think it would be pretty hard to do... and EXPENSIVE! ON this trip, we didn't have any food, but the menu looked yummy and we have already decided that we WILL be back. You will not find a place with better staff, Brooke is by far and away the kindest and most informative person in the business! Max, well you can't really say enough good stuff about Max. Don't pass this place up, from their amazing and worldly selection of drafts and bottles, it will take you years (trust me) to get through half that bottle list. The burgers are locally world famous for a reason, if you don't like them you don't know good burgers (I'm a chef, I know!). The bootlegger is a must try! Even their side salads are outstanding. Our waitress was nice and worked hard going from table to table. She was the only one working there taking orders. The bartenders know about the product and suggested some new brews that I loved. You can oftentimes tell when a restaurant (or pub) is a great place by the patrons inside. This small establishment is almost always bustling despite the building being a little bit drab. If they moved into a nicer facility you might never get a table. This place smelled of wet moldy wood, and not in a good way. I was underwhelmed by the tap list, 4 IPAs and only two local. My beer was served with a massive head. A group of us met here last Thursday to check out their buy one, get one house burger specials. They were SO good. They have game burgers as well but those are not part of this particular special...I got the patty melt and it was to die for good. Oh, and they have all sorts of awesome sides, regular fires, sweet potato fries, onion rings, salads, and more. The service is top notch as well. Also worth mentioning is their beer challenge. Writing this review, although Ale House is the kind of place that doesn't care about reviews. Best bar in North County, and it all comes down to the staff. When you get there, trust the bartenders and just order "one alcohol". These guys and gals know their bar and their taps, and can dive into the deep selection that they have to find you a match. The atmosphere of this place feels like home, which is really dangerous for a bar, but also really fun. The food pairs really well with the beer because beer pairs well with everything.
