UPDATED REVIEW: Romel, Fabian and Cristian arrived at 7:30 AM on the morning of the install. They remained on the job, only taking a brief break for lunch, until 5:00 PM when then left for the day, having to return the following Monday to completed a small portion of one of the bedrooms because they ran out of wood laminate planking (through NO fault of their own).. In the 9 1/2 hours that they were at the house, they completed a hallway, a kitchen a dining room and tow bedrooms. Their work and craftmanship was exceptional . They were most clean throughout the day while working and cleaned the entire work area of any debris once completed. We purchased Empire Today's most expensive carpeting and most expensive padding. Within a year, the carpet started to buckle. Empire offered to trim and re-stretch the carpet for a fee. We felt we had no choice so we paid for the work. Within another two years, the buckling came back even worse than the first time. Again, we paid for them to trim and re-stretch the carpet. It has now happened for a third time (see photos). This time, Empire said "it was out of warranty" and they wouldn't provide the re-stretching service even if we paid for it again! Do not use Empire. They are the worst. I was excited to remodel a room. I called Empire and they sent an associate to assess the room. It's a sunken living room. I wanted the entire room, including the step, to have the carpet removed and flooring installed. The associate measured the room, the step, took pictures and gave me a quote on the spot. I gladly accepted and gave them a down payment. I asked if I could use a bank check for the install date. I was told yes. We scheduled for my install. The day of, the crew which was a flooring specialist with his wife and kid showed up late. They wouldn't start the work as they had never seen a bank check before and couldn't accept it. I called the associate who conveniently didn't pick up or ever call back. The couple also didn't speak good English which isn't an issue until you have to be able to effectively communicate what the issue is with the money, what I need or what you need. They finally spoke to someone and started 1.5 hours later after being 1 hour late. They went to work and were blasting their radio. I asked if they could turn it down as it was loud and my dog was getting anxious. They gave me an attitude over it. They finished and the flooring specialist left the step down stair unfinished and without molding. I told him it looked like absolute shit. He said he didn't have any more product and if we wanted we could wait two weeks for him to come back as he is busy until then. We did this via a phone translator which made the dialogue even more frustrating. He also said sales associates don't know his job and he actually cannot install flooring on a step. He suggested I just paint the step myself as he doesn't even think he can fix it. I told him i specifically met with an associate who measured it out and made sure to send the specs to the install team. That associate is the one conveniently ghosting me. It's a very bad after first date conversation between us. Mister I know Floors raised his voice at my wife when she asked who cleans up all the debris and dust they left. At that point I asked him to leave. He actually refused and began to take pictures of his work. I told the crew or family to leave my home. They did. I called Empire and they said they couldn't do anything about it as the flooring dude left. If I would have called when he was there, they would have spoke to him and made him fix the work. They also advised me that they always have more product than necessary so that they don't have these mistakes. They were very confused and seemed to be questioning the legitimacy of my issue. I wound up fixing the floors molding myself. When I called for reimbursement for the work I did, they told me that since I altered the work that they aren't responsible. I sent them the contract that shows the price I paid for labor, product and the promise of what they were going to do - which they didn't fulfill. They denied the legitimacy of their own contract. After fighting with corporate for two months, they decided to compensate me. Are you ready? Keep in mind, I had to fix the step myself. They would not offer any compensation for the work I did or product I bought. Nashota Rainey-Webb, Customer Service Associate, states that there was nothing wrong with the install after seeing the finished product I fixed. In fact, I sent them before and after pictures and they claimed my work was done by the installer and refused to acknowledge that he left the wood showing the way he did. However, they graciously offered me $100 because we had a contract that requested the flooring be installed diagonally but the installer didn't have enough product so it has to be done vertically. The next week, Empire then followed up offering me a discount off the next flooring install I choose for my home. Screw this noise. Go fix yourself, Empire. You are bad business. read more

Buyer beware Was totally taken advantage of. I showed the sales man the Pergo flooring I was interested in from home depot - water, scratch proof. He said he they same but a better quality do to the fact they sell so many and are a direct dealer. Gave me a deal 16000.00 for 1800 square feet. Installed, I was so happy great deal. Well it's cheap vinal lucky me I just over paid for cheap vinal flooring. I could have had this installed from Home Depot for under 10k. My own fault for trusting I really thought Empire was a stand-up company. They lied all lies. The the sample was 6x6 which should have said it was all glued in a book so you can't tell the material or the weight. Told me it included the qu round moulding it didn't. Total lies. I am trying not to write a horrible review of this company, but it is getting harder and harder not to be entirely negative. I am still in the process of getting our laminate flooring assessed by Empire with no initial results to date and do not want to be pushed to the side because of my frustration on the procedure. Our flooring is a little over a year old, and we were told that it is out of warranty, so it will cost us to have a Technician come out and assess the problem. Going back to the Empire website, it is proclaimed that there is a 5 year warranty on the flooring. So why are we out of warranty after a year? On the website it also states that if you purchased your flooring before 09/01/2024, here is the extended warranty to purchase and if you bought past that date, here is the second option. The bottom line is that we WERE NEVER INFORMED of any extended warranty and was sold the product with the understanding of it having a 5 year warranty. A little bait and switch after the fact? The floor is starting to raise in a few rooms, therefore not being flush with the panel next to it. I am mad to the fact that they are going to charge me to look at the problem and if it is to be repaired, cost me more money. I was never told I only had 1 year on this floor. They gave us 2 options - have the Technician assess it or take pictures and file a claim. I welcome a Technician to assess the problem BUT I refuse to pay for this service when there is something wrong that the product is not staying in place. I did not install it, Empire did, so why should I pay for the visit to assess their problem? We have called several times & in their return calls, Empire rings the phone and when you answer they hang up, but call back within a few minutes, and hang up again. We have been talking with "Gretchen". We got a phone call from another dissatisfied customer who indicated that "Gretchen" had given them our number for a callback from Empire. Are you kidding me? My number was given out instead of Empire's number. Are their employees that numb? Bottom line is that we are very frustrated with the process and solution to a complaint, the bait and switch tactics to sell the product THEN give you the particulars after the fact, and Customer Service not returning your phone calls, them asking for more money because of their installation, and the bait and switch tactics. We are still paying for this product and went with Empire because of the National attention they get. They are supposed to be a reputable company, but our experience so far has their reputation getting tarnished by the minute. If I could do it again, I would have only shopped locally. I should've looked at the reviews first. Price: All of the pricing is done magically behind the scenes--customers dont get to see the breakdowns. Our project was originally about $38.5k but after *huge deductions* was brought down to about $28.5k. Local retailers quoted us about $26k. We loved our sales rep Rose & we couldn't find anything that matched the flooring we picked out from Empire so we went with them. We also grew up seeing Empire ads in CA so there was a bit of a nostalgic pull. Installers: Installers are independent contractors, they are not in-house employees. Project overview: We chose LVP, our order noted leveling compound for every room (floors needed leveled), & we made it clear we did not want transitions. Install Pt 1 (1/3): The installers put transitions in every room. They also did not attempt to level the floors, so the floors were obviously wonky AF when they were done. They also left permanent scratches in 2/4 rooms' floors, one was a giant circle. Most corner cuts extended into the LVP. (Job was sloppy & incomplete.) Installation Coordinator (IC) Pt 1: The IC said transitions were based on industry standards. I asked him what that meant, he didn't offer an explanation. So many other professional sites state LVP doesn't need transitions unless the area is HUGE, like over 4k sqft. But sure, *industry standards*. He also said our order didn't include leveling compound so I got our sales rep involved & she reminded him it did. Install Pt 1 (2/3): The same team came out to remove transitions & level the floors... but they didn't. First they tried to convince the IC that the waviness in the floors was OK because it was within the level bounds but they were putting the tool diagonal over the humps instead of straight... I had to move the level myself & it wasn't until it was teetering over the highest part that they agreed the issue was real, but then they claimed it was too dramatic to be leveled. It's like magic, *no problem* to *yikes* in the span of an inch! I wish I was making this up. They also told the IC the leveling compound was useless because it would *go through*... we have no idea *through what?* because it would have gone on the underlayment that was on the subfloor lol. After about 50-75% of the LVP had been taken up the team leader refused to complete the job, said we had to fix the floors lol. Install Pt 1 (3/3): This team was amazing. They are from Constru Group & the main guy is LeMuel. The floors were professionally leveled & beautifully installed. Install Pt 2 & IC Pt 2: Man, this install was expected to go smooth... LeMuel was back! Within a couple hours of the job being worked on the IC dropped a bomb on us--our job would cost $1000 more because it didn't include leveling compound. (Reminder he said this in Pt 1, too.) He came to the $1000 number by using the one price they charge per sqft and multiplied it by the sqft needed for the job, he did not calculate labor and materials separately. He said he didn't want to stop the job so he would work with us, he dropped the price to $500 & said we would be paying for labor only, materials were free. He said if we helped him out here, he could really help us with a deal on a repair we needed upstairs. During an anxiety induced bout of insomnia that night, I looked at our original & latest order confirmation emails & sure enough, leveling compound was listed/accounted for. I called the IC the next day & he changed his story... our contract now covered materials, not labor. Empire combines labor & materials in one price, they don't separate them (Empire customer service rep + sales rep confirmed afterward but the IC also confirmed this in the way he calculated what was *owed*) so this didn't make sense. In the end he dropped the additional charge & acted like we got it for free. Conclusion: I wonder how many other Empire customers have been told a service/product on their order form/contract wasn't paid for. I spoke with a rep who reiterated what the IC said--the leveling compound wasn't paid for. When I asked for proof, she said it was in the contract that only they can see (our contract doesn't show what she saw). She promised the contract didn't pay for leveling compound but she couldn't/wouldn't show me a screenshot to prove it. She also tried to say another item was free but I very distinctly remember a high price for that item being cut down to about $4000. She said someone else would have to do all the cost breakdowns to prove it but I didn't ask for that, I wanted to see the thing she saw that indicated the service listed on our contract wasn't covered/paid for. To me it sounds like a scam. It's like *trust us, you owe this... ignore what your contract says... oh and we don't want to show you proof, just pay up*. Scam, scam, scam. I haven't been contacted about repairs but I am so skeptical of Empire that I don't want to deal with them again, ever. read more

We paid for the carpet, and it was put down just 3 months ago... already it's seams are coming up, and the job was anything but professional ... the absolute worse carpet place to deal with trust me. I used Empire Today (South Hackensack) for hardwood floor installation. The initial estimate did not include my stairs which I was lead to believe were in good shape to be sanded and stained. So there had to be 2 installation visits. Both were a nightmare. For flooring in 3 rooms, they sent 2 men only one of whom actually installed the floor. They were here for 12 hours and only when the boss arrived in the afternoon did anything get done with any semblance of coordination. Nevertheless, instead of moving my couch and other living room furniture from one side of the room to the other while putting in the floor, they put it all in my kitchen so that for the entire day, 12 hours, I could not access my fridge or stove. I had to order delivery. As for the stairs, what should have been a half day job at best also went on for 11 hours. The first 90 minutes saw nothing get done. I was then told the stairs were in poor condition and at least 3 needed to be replaced if the job was going to be done properly-at an extra cost of course. Why the salesman who looked at them and gave me the estimate did not tell me this, I have no idea. The installer told me he could just install the hardwood over the faulty stairs and I could take my chances and not get a warranty for the work. But, I was told that I was "fortunate" that the installer they sent could actually replace the stairs. It added to the cost of the job. To say this felt like a bait and switch is an understatement. With basically the only option to let him do it or let them leave, find a carpenter and then reschedule, I agreed to the extra price. After nearly 12 hours, they were finally finished. Neither of these jobs should have been this kind of ordeal. I am not happy. I will also say that their selection is very limited. I had to look elsewhere for tile. If I ever decide to do floors again, I would not choose Empire. read more

Look for another flooring company. Having problem with my floor cricking. Then sent two differant installers to check the floor both said something wrong with floor. They checked for moister and pulled off moldings to see if gap was correct. We spent 11,000 and have a beautiful looking floor that when walking on it sounds like a old house. And looking to your warranty only one year for instalation. At this point just wish they would admit floor is no good and give our money back. DO NOT RECOMMEND working with them - they will try to get as much $$ from you as possible initially and then won't follow up any promises to fix mistakes that THEY are responsible for. We had contracted with them to get hardwood floors. The first day they were scheduled to start work, they insisted our house was not equip for hardwood, and they had to put plywood down first. They didn't notify us about this during the walk-through and evaluation and insisted we had to pay for it. After back and forth with the company, they finally started to work. They worked pretty well on our first floor, but rushed our living room floors, to the point where there were several notable mistakes. One huge mistake was a raised board, that is big enough to trip over. That was THREE WEEKS ago. Since then, the local office has been dodging our calls and refusing to send someone to fix their mistake. When I call the Empire Today customer service number, they say to call the local office, but they also keep avoiding our calls. So there is literally no one to listen to you. They only call you when they need to get money out of you. Both the national office and local offices are a joke. Beware of the scam - go with anyone else. read more

I purchased a floor and scheduled a install date 24 days in advance. On day of install I received no phone call and no one showed up. I called and was told installers would be there. Waited all day and still no show. I called my sales representative and he rebooked for the following Monday. On Monday Installers arrived at 9:15 am and verified product and then was told that they did not have enough material, they went out to try and call their supervisor which didn't answer the phone. The installers sat in their van until 11:30 and then told me I would have to pay another 775 dollars if I wanted them to install it. I tried calling my salesman Terry but didn't get an answer. I believe he was avoiding me. I tried to cancel the contract and was told that I would lose my seven hundred dollar deposit so read your contract very carefully. Empire Today did an excellent job with our home's new flooring installation on Mon. 9/12/2022. We scheduled our initial free in-home estimate consultation appt online, for Wed. 9/7/2022 & ended up meeting sales rep/design consultant Ramone Wilson. Ramone walked from room to room with us, so we could show him every area where we wanted the new flooring to go in (including in closets) & which flooring transition strips needed replacement. We also showed Ramone what we wanted removed. Ramone really listened to what we wanted & then gave us his flooring recommendations based on that. Ramone seemed to know right away, which flooring option & style would work best for us/our home. We ultimately decided to go with the Highland Park luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring in the Highmoore style/color to replace what was calculated as flooring in 6 different 'rooms' in the house (downstairs boiler room, living/dining room, upstairs laundry room, hallway, & 2 bedrooms). Ramone helped us pick out a floor color that complements the pre-existing real wood on the steps/banister, & that looks good with the ceramic tiles in the entryway, kitchen, & in both upstairs bathrooms. He also helped us pick out a waterfall style carpet runner on the staircase steps. We chose the 'Pick Me' style/color of the 'Match Play' carpet series. Ramone then used a handheld laser square footage measuring device to calculate the amount of flooring materials needed. Ramone then took the time to calculate the cost of all this work, which totaled to $17,235.68. Due to a small change that we made, Empire ultimately sent us an email on 9/21/2022 saying that they are reducing the amount we owe by $938, so our new cost for this flooring installation is $16,297.68. Since Empire allows you to finance via a Wells Fargo line of credit with 0% interest fees for the first 12 months, we decided to finance the whole amount. This means, we didn't have to pay Empire anything until after the floors were installed on 9/12/2022. It is true that if we didn't finance, we would have owed a deposit of about 50% of the total, with the rest of the amount being due on the day of installation before the work begins. After running a credit check, Ramone scheduled our installation appt & then took time to continue answering any of our remaining questions. Regarding the complaints of other reviewers, all customers have to do is read the packet of pages emailed to you following the initial consult appt, because info regarding the reasons why Empire might not be able to finish flooring installation until the customer gets the issue remediated, which items Empire will/will not move, etc. is all in there. The installers did a good job & our new floors turned out great! Every major home renovation (like flooring installation) is stressful. Customers should expect to touch up imperfections on walls & crown molding, do a walk-through yourself of the completed work before the workers leave/before you sign off that the work has been completed, clean up any sawdust from the plywood that they have to sand down (since it has to go under the new floor), etc. read more

I wish I could give them negative stars because they don't even deserve a zero for what happened in my home yesterday. They spend so much money on advertising, one can't turn on the TV or the radio and not hear one of their ads. Do yourself a favor, don't call them. I wanted to update my bedroom and living room and 'gray' is the current in style color. I became obsessed with gray floors and gray everything for that matter. Being pressed for time, I called Empire and scheduled an in home consultation. The guy that came brough samples, I picked out what I wanted, the installation was scheduled and he left. I received a call the day before confirming that I would be home. I received a call the morning of asking if the workers arrived, I told them not yet and they had me hold while the workers were tracked down. I was told that they were wrapping up another job and would be at my house roughly around noon. No problem. I received another call at noon asking if they were there, I said no, but the guy did call and said they were 20 minutes away. Again, no problem. Then the Installation Coordinator, Shane Sullivan, stopped by to check on the installers - who were not there yet. Shane told me that I was in great hands because Rolando was a 'B' installer. That got me worried..... what is a B installer and why can't I get an A installer?? Does that cost extra or something? All Shane would say was, no, Rolando will do a good job. Attached are pictures of Rolando's work - you tell me if you think he did a good job. He was very polite and nice enough, but he could tell a mile away I was not happy. At the very end when he was done, he could clearly tell I was not pleased. I spent almost $4,000 to have two rooms done. I had beautiful molding BEFORE, take a look at what it looks like now. I live in a condo, I already had my downstairs neighbor and the lady who lives across the way come over to look at the floors - they both told me to call my credit card company and tell them to stop payment. Had carpet installed just over four years ago. Loved the product, at first, but the installation leaves much to be desired. Started seeing ripples and ridges appear a few months ago and, of course, it's not covered under warranty as installation is only guaranteed for a year. Now, we're looking at having to spend hundreds of dollars to have everything stretched. And, from what we've heard, once the carpet gets long horizontal ridges such as our family room has, stretching may not work. Have had one or two local carpet shops come in to look at our carpet for estimates to get it stretched/fixed and both installers said that you shouldn't be able to pinch your carpet and pull it up off the floor. They said it's a combination of sub-par product and a less than ideal installation, and it's far from the first time that they've heard from an Empire customer for the same exact thing. Can't recommend Empire at this point. Expected our $6,000+ would last us more than a couple years. read more

The list of issues is far too long to explain here however, after close to 4 weeks of trying to get issues resolved I formally ended up canceling a 25k project. Totally disappointed and would not suggest anyone use this company especially as it relates to the potential damages this company could cause to your home if you were to sign a contract with them!! If I could rate them based on communication and lack of engineering experience I would rate them at a minus. I am extremely unhappy with this company today I arranged for having the floor installed today specifically indicating that I needed installation after 11 AM I got a call at 7 AM telling me they were on their way and would be here between eight and nine I am changed heaven and earth to re-configure my day so that I would be here obviously when they showed up it is now 1030 I have called repeated times to be told different stories each time this last time I was just basically told oh we're not coming today somebody will be in touch with you in 24 hours. My floors are still not finished, install started 3 weeks ago. They require payment in full before they even start. I cannot get anyone to come back and finish what they started. Dealing with this company has been an absolute nightmare. If I could give them 0 stars I would. They first would not provide us with an official quote for our insurance company without us entering into a "non-binding" contract. We finally got an installation date scheduled for a Wednesday. On the day of the installation we received a call at 10:30 am stating that there was a "material shortage" and that our carpets would not be installed that day. This is after 3 full days of uprooting our entire home and disassembling furniture. After getting the run around for a while, we were then told that same afternoon that they did in fact have the carpet we ordered in, it was just on the truck and that they would be coming out Friday to install it. On Friday morning at 9:30 we received yet another call stating that the material was "on the truck and they didn't have enough people to go inventory and find it", and that they would no longer be coming to install our carpets. We then asked when they think they would be able to, and they said they had no idea. They refused to provide us with a discount. The entire operation was unacceptable, disjointed, disorganized, and quite frankly simply unacceptable. I would NEVER recommend using this company. read more

I waited 2.5 weeks for the empire today appointment for 3 bedrooms of carpet. They called me 5 times to confirm, which I confirm. Today on the day of the appointment, my husband and I took off from work awaiting the rep. They call me and cancel the appointment with no resolve. very non chalant, and dismissive. I removed half of the carpet for this job and placed on my curb. The salesman assured me that it would be hauled away by the installers with the rest of my carpet. This is also stated in their contract. Considering I also did half of their job you think this would be a no-brainer. At the end of the day the installers would not take the carpet. The reason being is that It was too heavy. I am a 53 year old woman that picked it up in front of them to show them that it was not. And then open the back of their truck to show me that it was completely full of old carpet. Unfortunately that is not my problem. I reached out to their customer service to have rectified. Then the reason from the customer service rep was that it would contaminate the new carpet that was in the truck. There was no new carpet in the truck. It was all my old carpet. Back-and-forth and back-and-forth with rude emails. Extremely frustrating as I had my entire house re-carpeted and spent quite a pretty penny of my hard earned money. it took a week to a get an appointment for an estimate. Every day they sent an email reminding us to be sure that all decision makers be present. morning of appointmen, no one showed and no one called. when we call customer service we were told the sales man was not answering his phone. After several more hours of waiting and phone calls to the company we were told nothing other then that the sales man was not answering his phone. our request for a manager to call us was ignored. Customer service line never answered the calls. The only way for us to reach a person was the option for the "Free estimate" line and all they could do was offer to make another appointment for us, in another week. get what u pay for. free consult is a joke. they called to ask if they could come early- then showed up, didnt knock or call me, and left in under a minute. i've got it all on my ring camera. when i called they offered to reschedule me for another day- after i had already waited around for half of my evening. no thanks. your guys dont even know how to ring a bell or dial a phone! definitely wouldnt trust with a carpet install! what an absolute joke. read more
